I just realized something, the title of this page isn't "John: Rise Up" the way most pages are titled, but "JOHN. RISE UP" the way WV typed when he was commanding John. That's because the title isn't about John rising to God Tier, but WV yelling at John to get up, because as far as he knows, John just died and WV desperately wants him to come back.
I love how cool the paradoxes in this book, web comic, novel whatever you want to call it. I just find it so cool that the WV that was talking to John before he died had already lived the events that John was about to go through its really thought out imo.
Yes, Heir of grief may be very beautiful. But this song will forever be my favorite Homestuck song. Actually, no, it's in a tie with heir of grief. Both are so beautiful.
This scene is very special to me. It is... the very first time anyone in homestuck really and truley DIED. Sure, many other deaths would follow, and yet... this is the start of it all, this is the very first character to go. And, in a way... he is gone forever. The real him, although still living up 'in the clouds', real him is forever dead on that rock, and its sad to think about. But, that and other moments like this are what make homestuck worth reading, in the end
I never saw it like that. Whenever godtier occurred, it always seemed like the character's dual consciousness (Waking and Dreaming) would collapse into something akin to a "true" self, awakened to powers they were predestined to have and indeed always had to begin with.
Darugo Sueño Yeah i find it like that you have to be killed on your quest bed and once you do your God Tier transformation will begin, and you will be born a new or resurrected, so all Bec Noir, did by stabbing John was lead him to gaining his permanent God Tier form so jokes on him.

It's been a while since ACT 7 went out, and Homestuck 'ended', and now I see this again. Years in the past, (but not many,) I read Homestuck on a whim; on a recommendation of a friend. This was the flash that sold the webcomic for me. When I got here, I knew that it was worth it, and that it would be good.. That was a long, long, time ago. I meant, in normal cases the "Ascension Command" looks like this: "John: Ascend." Indicating that it is the player/AH telling the characters what to do. In this case the command text is " JOHN. RISE UP",similar to when WV was giving John orders. WV tells John to get up because he thinks/is afraid John is dead. And that made me sad. :( Maybe I should have made that more clear... :P I basically meant the same thing as '989FOX989' who has the top comment... :P

Jesus all the existential shit in homestuck just makes me sad. Later in the story death isn’t treated as seriously. But just the concept of multiple yous existing and most of them dying because they didn’t fit paradox space’s demand is horrible. Sburb is cruel game that literally throws kids at the blender.
Honestly it haunts me how John's real body stays on Quest bed. Like fuck, it rots and such when your dreamself gets tacky pajamas and some cool bull shit powers. All kids that started the session died. Their god tier dreamselves continue to live. the one thing that would have made Homestuck's first few acts better would have been to have every god tier be as cool and heroic as this one. I mean, don't get me wrong, the rest are pretty cool, like Rose and Dave through the Green Sun, but this just... plain epic. John ascending both on LOWAS and on Skaia, everyone looking up at Skaia as it shines brighter than ever in the color of Breath, it's just... something else, man. Something that barely gets topped by any other flash in Homestuck.
I love how John's is the only one where we see that the kids, on their own planets, can see the effects of John's rise up. Maybe it has to do with him having the Breath aspect and that it can occupy space wherever it's at if that's what the aspect "wants" I guess.

I hear you there was just something surreal about this; being the first (on screen) main character death in the comic. but at the same time it was kinda magical in its own way.
there are two ways to god tier: the quest bed on your planet or the sacrifical slab in the center of either derse or prospit, whichever planet you dream on, which is what the alphas did. if you go god tier on your planet your dream self takes over, you dont need a dream self to go god tier inside of your moon, though. john and jade both died on their planets, and though jades dream self had died, it was prototyped and so she took over the sprite, and she also inherited the prototyped bec powers.
I believe Breath may also represent the concepts of direction or communication (though the second is harder to prove). Tavros was never able to speak very well, but that was because he was a Page. His powers (and rhetoric) were very weak, as a Page is weak at first. He was also mostly aimless. John, however, grew into the role of a leader, deciding the path to take. He was also mostly aimless at first and had trouble keeping his attention on one thing at a time, but got better.

Communication is only a personal guess based on Tavros and somewhat John (also Rufioh, sort of). Direction is more obvious, I believe, simply based on John's actions and Tavros' inaction. An Heir needs to grow up. That is their role. By growing up to be less aimless, John was capable of doing great things. A Page, on the other hand, gets gradually stronger. Tavros, though, was always too weak to do anything of importance by himself. It's possible that flight and motion are part of it as well.

This is what made me love Homestuck.
It's called "Savior of the Waking World". It's a remix of "Doctor", which appeared in the walkaround flash after John went through his first gate.
Still gives me chills just to hear it. It's been what, 3 years since I first saw this?
I get goosebumps every time i see this, i cant help but to just get really proud of John as a character, and how far he's come.
I've experienced realizations like this a few times while reading the comic. It is an interesting feeling.
