how are you getting 2 cars there
I love you mav
I wish I was closer or could make quick arrangements to meet you there!!!! You’re an awesome guy and I know your meetup will be awesome!!!!!
I'll be there. Always wanted to meet you in person.
well… looks like only the bug will be there… they need us to push the vehicle in so we can’t start it.. i’d rather push the bug than the truck 😂
That truck has a strong beating heart and a lot of character. She's begging for a full restoration.. and she deserves it.
😂 a 93 Ford f-150 isn't worth restoring tho unless it has a crap load of sentimental value. Restoration is exceedingly expensive anymore even if doing all the work yourself. Sounds good tho in theory.
That’s no heart beat you hear that’s the engine knocking harder than a jehova witness at your door😂😂😂😂
@@allaboutroofing2maybe not a full restoration but he should definitely throw some parts at it and take it for another road trip
@@jawkman101exhaust leak and a misfire. If that was a knock he wouldn't have made it far.
Why it has to be a she why not a he for a change 🤷♂️😭😂😂😂✌️
Sandy seems pretty solid honestly, for a 30yr old truck to make it 1500 miles after sitting for 2yrs is dang impressive
That's Ford reliability. ❤
@@emartin851dude that thing is gonna break did you see the rust it’s one bump away from totaled I feel so bad for dude
he got it for free lol what is there to feel bad about? hes a youtuber with a fleet of cars and subscribers. he'll be okay@@johncombs216
@@johncombs216lmao you obviously know nothing about vehicles
I have an 05 gmc with same issue sat same time more rust. Breaks lines etc sounds the same. Never did i think it would make it that far. Crazy. Now I wanna see the camper cuz that's what I wanna do but afraid it won't hold one. Im usually a ford girl lol
That truck took care of you on that trek home. It’s now your turn to take care of her and give her a restoration and trip across the country!!!
Fix the rust + do oil change +air filter +brakes+ gas tank stuff +some Cleaning+new steering wheel +new interior stuff + fix winchled +get new Suspension+Paint the trunk.
❤
Basically a whole new truck
Sick video. Definitely deserves a spot in the fleet for being that reliable! Also its so freakin crazy you're famous enough these days to get noticed on the highway in a vehicle that isn't even "yours" to us fans yet. That little spot you cooked at looks gorgeous. Congrats on all the success Mr Mav
My grandpa had an 83 F-150. Didn't put over 80,000 miles over the 35 years he had, but it ran and it did it's job. He sold to one of his Masonic Lodge guys in the town. It needed a new AC compressor and the guy put on there and the truck still running. Built Ford tough motto turned out to be true.
Not anymore. But yes, then.
Ford is getting a lot of free advertising from you Mav! I am a firm believer the older Ford Trucks are better built then the newer ones!
Most things built before 2000s are built way better than things after. Nowadays things are built so the consumer has to buy again
Yeah this^ everything is business
I have a 92 ford super duty
The owners manual says to only go 45 mph in drive before shi fting to over drive. ???
i know right! i love ford especially the trucks
too bad older n newwe chevys better
I inherited my 95 5.0 from my wife's grandfather and am replacing all the Wisconsin rust with new pieces one at a time. These trucks are amazing.
MAV! I was the one honking and waving at you on 35S today! Been a huge fan for so long so when I saw the f150 w the keep on trucking sticker it made my day! Safe travels bud!!!
❤❤❤
I had a 92 f150 pretty much identical this truck a few years back. Owned it a total of 8 years and it had 320,000 miles when I sold it. I did the Maine to North Carolina and back trip with it 6 times over the 8 years and the truck never skipped a beat. Even had cold air. You absolutely can’t beat these trucks.
That must’ve been a hell of a drive lol
@ definitely was! Good memories though. Wish I still had that old ford. It was very tired when I sold it.
@@tylerbeach4727 as a hardcore ford man I’d like to believe it still had a bit more left to give
I think the best videos are when people genuinely enjoy you giving them some merch for helping you out
Please give her an all over “facelift”. Sandy deserves it!💛
MAV out here making Sundays that much better
That and football
He always does
That miss is likely ignition. Get warmed up, set idle at exactly 650 and disconnect power to each cylinder one at a time. The bad cylinder will not affect rpm. All the others will cut the rpm. Do a thorough tune up while replacing everything on your bad cylinder.
In the UK I didn't see it until Monday
I’m so impressed that you reached out to viewers to advocate for self care. What a positive outreach!
It was a paid advertisement.
Because he was getting paid for it. He probably don’t even use the service he was promoting.
Class to see people just have that camaraderie with Mav just down his videos being real and authentic.. when I'm having a bad day ill put a few Mav videos on to cheer me up!! I watch all the way from Ireland
Real ❤
Hey MAV. Those are great trucks them 1992-1997 Ford trucks are hard to beat. That squeak is something simple. It's probably an idler pulley for the serpentine belt
That truck has so much potential Mav, we hope you build it into something awesome!
It has the potential to break down and end up in a salvage yard in the near future maybe. Definitely not restore worthy for what it is and how much it would cost in time and money.
@@allaboutroofing2
You're wrong.
@@allaboutroofing2dude y is u so hateful towards a truck ..let me guess your either a Chevy or Dodge guy
@@allaboutroofing2ur just pissed because it drove halfway across the country with no issues
bros on every comment when someone says he should restore it
It would be super cool to see you fix the truck up and make it a sort of budget camping build to inspire others to try truck camping out
full rebuild!
I wanna build one. I've been a mechanic for 20 years. never had a project or fun car. I can rebuild a pickup easily. this is my motivation. I'm gonna start looking for an old chevy.
I was concerned about the tires on the truck at 1st when it started raining (because Sandy was sitting for 2 years) but when they were shown, they look like they’re in good condition. Sandy said watch this and she took Mav all the way home!!!! That’s a good truck!!!!
A few years ago I bought a 94 Chevy k2500, I live in Norway and had to fly to the other side of the country to get it. Drove it back home over the mountains, the trip was around 600km. I have still and I am slowly restoring it over time. These old trucks from the 90s are very popular and even 30 years later there are a lot of parts for them being made. Enjoy it to the fullest id say.
Seeing a full renovation on this truck would be really satisfying, I tell you
uh
Sandy definitely deserves some love/TLC .. not sure why but i just loved the truck the moment i saw it
I own an 02 Chevy Trailblazer with 193k miles. These types of cars/trucks from back in the day were true warriors. Sandy deserves a place among your fleet. Love your videos dude keep it up.
Better start calling this channel ‘Sunday Night Mav’ because he just makes the weekend THAT much better
Very nice truck! You're very brave to drive her without tools...good for you on your new ''purchase''. 🙂
Way to GO Sandy!!! She ran like a champ.
I’ve never check oil with The vehicle running in my life 😂
@@mikez104I laughed.🤣
Wasn't running
I love it when Mav says it wouldn’t be a road trip without cooking 🥘 😂
Truck definitely deserves a road trip!!! I can’t wait to see what improvements you make to old Sandy!
Mav is the type of guy who can make anything seem interesting. I would honestly be thrilled to see a video with Mav watching paint dry. He is likable and creative...which mekes him special and he found his niche😊
Some parts for the dash and some Bondo not so hard work. I have owned lots of Ford's over the years. Most of them were as good if not better than Toyotas to be frank as there is a lot of hype on Toyotas these days, Ford's always took me all over Canada and the USA with virtually no problems. Every two years change antifreeze and transmission oil and filters. Never a problem with the drive train. These vehicles were easy to fix for most people unlike now with front wheel drives.
Would love to see more content of you fixing it up! It’s an awesome truck!
Sandy could be called a "beater"...but, most beaters wouldn't be able to go 1100 miles without something failing. A little of Mav's money...a good wash job and visit to a decent body shop for repairing the rust issues...replace the windshield...let a known reliable mechanic go over the engine/tranny thoroughly replacing all fluids...and upgrading lights and a lot of Mav TLC and s/he's good to....wait for it......Keep on Trukkin'!
Mav I love ya man. I miss my old truck. This was your gift from the universe for being such an awesome soul. Good name Sandy btw. 😊
Just another Sunday with Mav, bringing home another vehicle! What a great trip! Sandy brought you home safely! It will be interesting to see what you do with her! ❤❤❤
Mav you are one brave guy i would not have trust that truck to go so far but you have balls bro congratulation Sandy is a beast
Pretty hyped on this video from a personal level. My dad recently passed away and I ended up getting his old 1991 Ford f250 XLT Lariat. I have been wondering what to do with this thing, and have actually considered getting a camper shell for it and turning it into my camper truck, but the more I drive it around the more I just love driving an old truck in general. Obviously these trucks don't get a lot of content because of their age, so I am stoked to see something relatable! Can't wait to see where this goes.
This truck deserves some work and a winter trip into the Rockies of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana!
Watch this right before bed before another long 64 hour week at work what a fantastic bedtime story. This was not to mention another great video. Glad you made it home safe and happy to welcome Sandy to the family.😊❤
I also watch his videos before bed and recommend a lot of people to do the same. The simplicity really calms the soul and makes for a great night's sleep!
64 hour workweek, yikes.
@@dakodasteele123 agreed he has a calm and relaxing nature
@@Qvik_ The hours do drag on but helps with my current financial situation and allows me to save for the future … not to mention your body gets used to being exhausted and plateaus eventually so it’s becomes “the norm”
Way to go Sandy. Pretty amazing she made it. I hope she makes a good addition to the Mav fleet. Keep on truckin’. 👍
4:05 you should make this a truck sticker “we’ve got coolant, and we’ve got a dream.”
I can’t wait to see what you do with this new van what a kind man Matt is my faith in humanity has been restored what a guy..any update on your house?
Oh man!!!! I tell ya, this is gonna be awesome. Mav she wants a restoration and I really can’t wait to see it. Sandy definitely deserves it and she proved to you brother. I absolutely love your channel and always recommend it to my buddies!!!!
Hey Maverick, that was a fun video. The truck is in good shape or as old as it is and for free can’t go wrong. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. You always make my day. Be safe out there.♥️🙏😎👍✌️
Typically when buying a vehicle the better the deal seems the more it ends up costing in the long run. But he can make content out of it either way so it's perfect for him.
Those trucks are all but indestructible.. been running Ford forever.
Got to say honestly I wasn’t expecting you to make it home. Were there’s a will there’s a way!!
She’s such a light duty truck I can’t say I have anything that I can think of to use her for other than cleaning her up and just keeping her around to run errands.
Welcome to Mav’s Used Cars.
As always.
Watching from Oklahoma.
Thanks.
Jeffrey.
I just completed a 5000 mile road trip in my old 270k+ mile Ford bus with out a single issue. Videos on my Channel of your interested
Just a head up. U check engine oil with the engine off. You will not get the correct reading with it running as the oil is being moved around at all times. When engine is off oil settles that’s when u take ur reading. Transmission is the only thing u check running and hot.
Is that a 300 straight 6? If so you are golden!! Those engines have been around for like 80yrs! Nope that's a 4.0L V6!!! Excellent engine, without enough torque to hurt the Trans!!! 😂😂😂 Drive it through the U.P. of Michigan, down the east side of the State and bach to Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn MI !!! Mic drop 🎤🎤🎤
Love the old Ford and Chevy trucks from this era, Definitely Built to last! I personally daily drive a 93 Chevy pickup with 236K and with maintenance it’s gone a long way! Good luck on the F150 Mav keep it coming.
Nice find and a great adventure! I had a '92 SuperCab with that same color scheme that I bought just to get me through a winter - ended up keeping it 6 years. One of the best vehicles I've owned, but the rust caught up with it. I only had to go to southern MN to find it though, not New Jersey.
I'm guessing the reason it wasn't performing well in overdrive (4th gear) is because the misfire sapped too much power - being in 3rd gear brought the revs up enough to compensate. Looks like yours has a 302, which is only adequate in these trucks, so a misfire is going to hurt a lot. It might be something simple. Mine did that once (351W, not a 302) and it was degraded spark plug wires grounding out. After a tuneup it ran perfectly.
The reason the ignition lock is troublesome is because the chrome bit has three little pins on the back side of it that shear off, so it doesn't stay aligned with the keyway. Sometimes you can take the cylinder out and swedge that part down enough to get it to stick in place, but otherwise replacing it is all you can do. There's a trick with these that you can keep the same key for both ignition and doors after replacing the ignition lock if it comes to that.
Sandy looks to be a workhorse for your fleet! Your right door issues is possibly a bad door latch.
The cables were known to fail because they had plastic ends that got brittle and broke.
I had a car do that. Try some WD 40 on the latches. It worked for me.
Hey Mav! I’ve been following you for a while and your videos are awesome and therapeutic. I recently made a trip to Minnesota to pick up my fiancé now wife. Be encouraged and keep the videos coming! Keep on Truckin’!

when cooking with charcoal, you need to wait for the briquettes to turn completely white. If you cook with it and they are still black, your food will taste like lighter fluid. After lighting the briquettes, usually need to wait 45 minutes or so.
Don’t use lighter fluid
Can’t see a Sunday without a MAV video 💯🫡
That's amazing you drove it that far with no break downs most used cars you buy off car lots your lucky if you make it home with out breaking down old Sandy is like a dog from the pound just needs some loving and it will treat you right make her awesome and beautiful again Mav I no you will love your videos buddy
That truck has a strong beating heart and a lot of character)))
Had a 92 F150 extended cab all throughout high school, loved that truck. Had over 200,000 miles on it when I sold it and was still running like a champ.
Mav, love your content. As for the first stop on a roadtrip for the f150, I have only one suggestion..... a good mechanic to iron out the miss and any other hidden problems before they become trip ending problems.
For clarity, overdrive has to do with the relationship between engine RPMs and driveshaft RPMs. When you're in regular drive it's a 1:1 ratio, meaning engine and driveshaft RPMs are equal. In overdrive the driveshaft will spin faster than the engine. This allows you to cruise at highway speeds at lower RPMs, which is generally easier on the engine and results in better fuel mileage.
This comment is greatly appreciated. I just started daily driving my dad’s old 85 gmc s15 and was not sure what to be driving on. So is it safe to assume that if I was hauling a truck bed full of stuff or a trailer that I’d be in regular drive for the added power?
@@BUCKSHOTSTV That is correct. RPM and torque have an inversely proportional relationship where increasing the RPM through gear ratio reduces the torque and vice versa.
@@BigIronTexas thank you so much!
way to go Sandy and Mav. I've driven rigs like this for so much of my life, haha, brought back some amusing memories for sure! thanks Mav!
When he opened the door I smelled that interior. There is a distinct early 90's F-150 cab smell that only gets better with age.
Hey Mav, I drove 24 hours straight only stopping for gas and food in a 97’ Chevy Silverado last year. It stayed The same temperature the whole time and never gave me an issue once. They don’t make trucks like that did in the 80s and 90s. Hell I remember my grandpas ford could go through nipple high water stock.
The big issue with overdrive on older vehicles is that it should only be used above 40-45mph for significant distances. Back then people used it in normal traffic and it ruins the “gear” locking and unlocking OD constantly. Should only be in OD at highway speed without slower ng down a lot. Essentially.
especially Ford vehicles from that time period. thing should be able to be rehabbed relatively easily and affordable for a guy like mav.
Your misfire may be actually the torque converter failing to lock up, which would explain why it's worse in overdrive. I had this issue in my car and thought it was an ignition problem initially. Hope you get it sorted out
Mav always has to get a meal in cooking no matter what that's awesome!!!!!
Loved the video.
I hope you get sandy running on all cylinders, clean her up, fix the missing dash pieces, and make it an epic camper truck.
That’s an awesome older truck man. Fix sandy up and take her to southern Florida for a winter trip and do a catch and cook. Good luck man.
Hey Mav! I think Sandy is going to make a great addition to your fleet. I know you just got back from a 1,500mi road trip, but I think you should take her to Cape Cod! You love fishing and the Cape is a great spot to fish. I live on the skirts and if you wanted to, I could show you around. I completely understand if that is too far of a trip you were thinking of. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you wanted to arrange anything. We would love to have you out here!
Your videos have come along way since the beginning. Love the content. Really enjoy it Mav!!
He really grew up well.
I would love to see a collaboration with you and either Throttle to rebuild the truck.. and then make it into a camper, that would be dope. Some real Pimp my ride type shit and make episodic too.
I have a 97 f150 and these things are beautiful. Sure something can go wrong but it’s always easy and simple to fix. Love old f150s. Just something about em.
I always wondered why i felt like home in your videos is because I live in Wisconsin too I love how home this state feels and everyone is usually so friendly
Hey Mav. Pretty cool that the truck was Free. God is Good!! You never know what he's going to do next.. Safe traveling & keep on trucking.. ❤️🐞
Makes night when you end it watching MAV ❤️
I think the charcoal might meant to be placed above the first grate so it gets some air?
That and it looks like he threw the food on before the coals were ready. That’s probably why they weren’t cooking and then “magically” things were cooking
Might be biased, but I love these OBS Fords. I've had a few and put some serious miles on them. Never had one let me down. They're reliable and fairly easy to work on; along with getting parts. Not surprised this one made it back with ease. I enjoy this type of content MAV!
I randomly found mav like 3 years back… went from watching a few videos a month to a few a week to waiting for your noti love the content blessings on blessings and love and safe drives keep on trucking big bruh
my buddy had the same truck in high school.. it was a beast, it rusted out before the engine ever had time to stop running.. Great video! Cheers from your Northern Neighbour, EH?
I wish I could hangout on Saturday at the mall of America but I gotta work. Hopefully my boy @TolbersCamping will show up.
I was so glad you took the grill directly off the second gas tank i literally saw you think quickly your videos get me through alot bro
You should have that old Ford completely restored
Absolutely AMAZED the fuel tank switch of misery was fully functional! 🤯. Other than that, these old American pickups were carved out of granite and if they started, that's all your worrying over with!
Awesome video, those OBS Fords are so cool. It's worth saving just because the tailgate opened so smoothly! Service the trans, replace the worn front end parts and it'll last forever. Don't waste your money on that high dollar Mobil1 stuff, just Motorcraft 1030 and an MC FL-1A or Wix equal. The doors have all kinds of gremlins, those trucks had a plastic ring on the body side of the door closure that wears away, can be replaced with just electrical tape. Look forward to seeing more of Sandy....Keep on Truckin'
The coals should be placed on top of the bottom grill. Air flow below and around the coals will do the trick.
Mav, search some frequently toured tourist locations in 1993. Take sandy back in time and experience her hay day!!!!
i love how you get as many camera angles as you do, solo. hats off to you man
I love this truck. Reminder of my grandfather's driving days
That is one of my favorite generations of Ford-F150s. I would love to see it restored plus the "Mav" camping touch!
Mav on the little charcoal grill, I believe the charcoal is supposed to go on top of the bottom grate to allow air to flow under the coals and you cook on the top grate.
I had a '97 F-150 that I really miss to this day. Heater core went out and to change it is roughly an 8 hour job. Body was shot but I loved that truck. Hope to see you at MOA coming soon.
I had the same year f150 but in blue and push button 4x4. I miss that truck still and I sold it 8 years ago. One of the best trucks ever made.
I remember mav saying he wanted an obs and now he's got one lol, there's nothing like driving an old car especially one that's been through the wringer

I had a 95 just like that with the 5.0 in it. Only issue I ever had with it was the cooling system. I have had 4 of the older ones, including the 96 I have now with the 300 I6. They are great trucks!
Those people were awesome to give you that truck, there's not many or hardly any people like that in this world anymore, wish I had a friend like that lol my trucks frame just broke on the lift due to so much rust, in much need of a truck, which I'm working on. You and the guy Matt that gave you the truck, good people!!!
