Would you recommend holding it backwards on the first ram? Facing your back toward the bell. I'm racing a savage in October. I could be wrong but speculation with a good kip and kick out(parallel with the ground), it seems like one could move the ram a good distance.
I personally have never gone backwards nor have seen anyone go backwards on this particular obstacle. Your body swing would be pushing you in the wrong direction. The only obstacle I recommend going backwards on at savage is sawtooth on the up part
