Same here, going backwards through the up section was a tip another racer gave me during a race and it's been golden advice!

Mind blown! Makes total sense with body mechanics.

Wow, that is a clever technique! I just did my first Rugged Maniac and am signed up for 4 more OCR's next year. Obstacles that require lots of grip strength are definitely my weak point.

That's great, you'll be hooked now! Rugged manaic is probably the best starter OCR in my opinion. I've been slacking on getting videos up lately, but I have one coming soon going over how I train my grip so subscribe if you haven't and keep an eye out for it soon!

Great job, Twister and Olympus on the Spartan race have my number.

Not for long they don't! I'll be having a tutorial video on both of these obstacles upcoming in a couple weeks so stay tuned!

Good stuff. I don’t have a problem with sawtooth, I’m able to pull myself up to the bars in the muddle. but I’ve also never tried it backwards. Have to try that

I started doing it backwards about two years ago and it saves me a lot of energy and time. I get across it much faster than I ever did before

Cool stuff, can you do a tutorial on the Spartan Rope Climb, the rig and Spear Throw.

Sure can! I was actually looking to get that filled and put out within the next 2-3 weeks. Stay tuned!

Going backwards, how do you fully understand when to transition? I've always completed this the front way, never failed, but that transition is really tough!

    • @obstacleactivist9741

For me personally, I transition at the second to last rung at the top when I know I've gotten to the "tooth". Those bars are twice as thick so I know it's time to turn

I complete this one, same as the lady at the beginning, but swing pretty hard & make that reach. (Hit my head on the bar next to it, last race, during the swing over. Lol)
Your approach, is that workable for petite women? I only see muscular guys doing that method. Didn't want to risk dunking, to try it.

    • @obstacleactivist9741

Yes, this method and technique can work for everyone. It actually requires less strength to go backwards and less energy to reach sideways at the "tooth" in the middle.

@@obstacleactivist9741 Awesome! Thanks! I'll find some monkey bars & test it out.

    Where are you practicing at

I work a second job at a gym that has a ninja course on it. But you can go to nearly any playground to practice monkey bars for this particular obstacle

Haha hey everyone starts somewhere! I struggled with the simplest of things when I started years ago. All about training and improving day by day by putting in the work. BUT if you ever make your way around central Pennsylvania, let me know and I'd definitely train with you!
