Watch this if you want to know what happend to Sarah Kerrigan(Queen of blades), it's another Blizzard cinematic ofc ua-cam.com/video/Aj47_qT8dFY/v-deo.html
i dont think you need to ask for an agreement its a straight up fact. i remember in high school when the first cinematic was released for WoW showing classes, it felt like 21 century for the first time
the line “hell...its about time” actually gave lots of chill since fans had waited for this game more than ten years when this trailer came out 12 years ago.
There is somethin' so goddang adorable about watching someone who has never seen Starcraft get a kick out of just how enjoyable the SC2 trailers were. Absolutely love it. Also absolutely agree with you on the visual aspects. The first trailer really emphasizes the "Used Future" trope and it's bloody glorious. So I know a few other folks have talked it through but here's a very quick explanation that probably won't do justice to the lore in its entirely. 1. The games take place in a region of space called the Koprulu Sector, basically a whole bunch of humanity got exiled out a long time back and due to mistakes in their ships navigation, they overshot the endpoint and landed out there. They set up their own governments and tried to carve out a living. They call themselves "Terrans" in reference to Earth. They're all sorta space cowboys in a lot of ways, lot of country rock and ma' and paw charm to them. 2. The Wings of Liberty trailer. The narrator is a character who is essentially the Emperor of the single biggest collection of Terran planets. He's a tyrant who you spend most of the 1st game working with. What this video shows is how a standard Marine is suited up. Almost to a man they're all resocialized convicts who basically get deployed in exchange for their freedom when their service runs out. The trailer is that tyrant telling this marine that he'll go free, but he'll carry his cell with him. It's simple compared to the others, but it's great in tone and in terms of being a trailer really helped build up that *something big* was about to happen for fans of the earlier games (or new players who may want to jump in now.). 3. The Heart of the Swarm trailer. This one focuses on the Zerg Swarm, essentially an endless tide of space bugs that are hyper adaptable, much akin to Tyrannids in 40k. So in this one ,the narrator is the Queen of Blades, a woman named Sarah Kerrigan. She used to be a Terran special forces soldier who worked for the tyrant narrating the first trailer. During a mission(In Starcraft 1) he left her for dead after luring the Swarm to a planet. Unfortunately, the aliens didn't kill her. They infested her with a virus, to create the ultimate psychically active commander. And now, under her command, when the Swarm invades a planet, they cluster up inside those gigantic flying creatures to survive the vacuum of space, and then it shoots them off onto the planet in massive numbers. They overwhelm defenses with sheer numbers of gnashing claws and scything blades. And her ultimate goal is to invade the planet that tyrant lives on, and kill him dead. (Fun fact: the Tyrant? He's the guy that statue is made to look like. His name is Arcturus Mengsk.) To understand the last bit with the "It was all a vision?" angle, you'd have to play Wings of Liberty to understand what is going on with Sarah. 4. The Legacy of the Void trailer. So this one is a bit longer and it's all about the Protoss, the last faction active in the Sector. They're a group of incredibly psychically active aliens. As shown in the trailers, they don't have mouths and instead share their thoughts and emotions using those long dreadlock like things on the back of their heads. Where the Terrans focus on gunfire and entrenchments with their tanks, guns, and aircraft; the Zerg with sheer weight of biomass crashing down on planets, Protoss are more mystical. They essentially have space swords and their psychic powers, and ultimately 1:1 they are significantly more dangerous than any of their enemies. As we saw in the Heart of the Swarm trailer, that big bug with the giant claws can literally step on a tank used by the Terrans, but those two mages who fused together could physically bodycheck the thing. In the 1st Starcraft game, their homeworld was overrun by the Zerg and they've always wanted to try and take it back. So what this group is doing is trying to create a beachhead. The warriors (Zealots) and mages (High Templar) just need to hold out long enough for that little robot to create that gold and crystalline structure which essentially works like a stable beacon for a wide area. What's weird about them is that they don't build things on the battlefield, instead they set up a beacon that physically warps the building into position, so while it's a black hole looking thing, it's their advanced technology teleporting the entire structure in place. That structure just happens to be really important for any Protoss encampment because it both opens up the teleportation of troops as well as powers all their defenses. So that's all the TLDR for this, but I'm glad you enjoyed the game trailers and by all means do go play them. Wings of Liberty is bloody free in entirety nowadays so it's a nice starting point where you get to play as the humans before trying anything odd.
As someone who doesn't get hyped from the trailers anymore because I've already beaten the game a few times, seeing him get hyped brought all the hype back. It was awesome.
Wasn't Tychus' suit special because his is the only one with the "mobile cell" configuration? In exchange for freedom he was assigned to spy on Raynor and kill him. Only until then would they remove his suit. Therefore, I presume the standard Marine suits are removable.
Since i cant find anyone who has explained it: When you said someone explain the Queen of Blades to you, here is a short summary The Queen of Blades was originally a Terran Ghost (a recon sniper basically) named Sarah Kerrigan. Kerrigan is special in that not only is she a pretty skilled ghost, she is also a powerful psychic. she was on a mission and was swarmed by the Zerg (the bug alien things) and abandoned by a guy named Arcturus Mengsk (the guy talking in the first cinematic you watched). Instead of being killed by the zerg she was taken in by the Zerg Overmind and reborn as the Queen of Blades, which was a human/zerg hybrid and being that she is a psychic that made her crazy powerful. Cut to some time later in the story: eventually she loses her connection to the zerg and goes back to being MOSTLY human. she was in a cell/lab sleeping and what you saw was her having a dream or nightmare if you will. as you can see by her hair, she is still partially zerg..but she is no longer evil or running off zerg instinct or being controlled by the Overmind. if i missed anything important, feel free to chime in
I would add that the key takeaways leading into the first cinematic is that at the time Kerrigan was in control of all known Zerg (bugs). Through treachery and deceit she was able to take the Protoss (race in 3rd cinematic) homeworld and become "Queen Bitch of the Universe" her words not mine. You play the part of her love interest (pre-bug). The guy in the cinematic is the love interest's friend who is sent to assassinate Kerrigan after she's been turned back into a human by the love interest. Ultimately, cinematic guy dies. In this game you play the humans. Going into the second cinematic, everyone knows that we'll be playing the bugs in this expansion. At this point, we know that Kerrigan is probably back to human now, but we see her dreaming of taking down the guy who abandoned her way back when using her Zerg powers. It appears to have been a dream, and she seems concerned that she had that dream because it's certainly possible that she still has the power to do this. In the game, she ultimately is able to exact her revenge by embracing her Zerg side, but she's still able to keep her humanity. Now, Kerrigan sets her sights on stopping a God that's coming to end the universe. Third cinematic, we're going to be the Protoss. I feel like this cinematic needs the most explanation since most of it was "look how cool this in-game concept looks as a realistic thing." Their goal is to take back their home-world, but they must sacrifice tradition in order to face the God that wants to destroy the universe. First scene, that's a Nexus, the Protoss's main building that is basically their castle, but we see that everything has been kind of taken over by the Zerg. Then, when they show all the Protoss guys standing together, the floaty guys are Templar, the blade guys are Zealots, and the little ball in the back is a Probe. The Templar are spell-casters and you can combine two of them to create the giant Archon we see fight the Ultralisk (giant stompy bug). We expect them to do some cool things. The Zealots are close-range fighters that charge into battle. When we see them charge the rolly green balls, those are Banelings. They're basically suicide bombers so the Zealot charging into them is super heroic because he's basically sacrificing himself - and we'll see why. The black hole is what it looks like when a building is warping in, and the Probes can warp in buildings, but they aren't fighters so it's curious to see one in a combat cinematic. Throughout the cinematic the big question is: What is the Probe trying to warp in? When it seems like all hope is lost and the Pylon (the building that warps in) finishes, we see the labor of their efforts. Pylons allow Protoss units to warp in from their base to the Pylon, so basically this small squad sacrificed themselves to allow a huge wave of reinforcements to stream their way back onto the stolen Protoss home-world. This reclaiming of Aiur was a long time in the making as it was a huge emotional plot point in the very first StarCraft game before even the expansion was out. Now, 4 games later, we see this revisited. So... Guess Chris Tamin was right... You didn't miss anything unless you write a whole Wikipedia entry... this kind of got away from me :|
These cinematics get even cooler when you understand the game mechanics and how well the animators respected the mechanics while, at the same time, making it look awesome.
The three banelings killing a zealot, really great, as for the archon vs ultralisk and the warp after the pylon (reminded me of pression of cannon rushing)
The “black hole” is a sign that a Protoss structure is being warped from a warcraft (typically a mothership in orbit” onto a planets surface, the reason they stood and fought was to defend that pylon in warp, and once it was warped, the mothership started mass warping in soldiers(shown at the end before the charge)
To clarify a little bit of lore: Starcraft is real time strategy game with three playable factions: - The terrans (humans) - The Zerg (insectoids): they are lead by the queen of blades after their former master (the overmind) was killed. They are highly polymorphic and can adapt/evolve by assimilating DNA from multiple species - The Protoss (blue humanoids) : Large, strong, highly intelligent and very technologically advanced race with natural psionic affinities. Lost their home planet of Aiur to a Zerg invasion. First video: the prisoner is Tychus, a terran pirate/rebel. He made a deal with the tyrannical terran emperor Arcturus Mengsk to be freed from prison on the condition to kill Jim Raynor (rebellion leader) and the queen of blades. Second Video: Kerrigan was a terran Ghost (Elite Soldier) that fell to the zerg and was turned by the former Zerg leader (the overmind) into the queen of blades. After the overmind was killed, Kerrigan leads the Zerg Swarm to invade the terran domain. Her human form is shown in the end Third Video: The Protoss are leading an invasion effort to reclaim their home planet of Aiur from the Zerg. They deploy troops and structures by warping them using the blue energy "black holes"
Too many spoilers bruh, I'd just recommend him to play it through, or the very least, read up some lore and watch the animations, really worth a couple hours imo.
My favorite part was 10:50 when he goes "how many?" and instantly answers himself with "swarm," connecting the dots without being told anything other than that word about how unending the zerg is meant to be.
"You carry your prison with you. That armour, will be your new cell" as in a prison cell not a shell. Not for protection, but that he's not actually free.
@@Falindio The reply was in regards to Chris repeating the line, but said "Shell" instead of "Cell", which doesn't make much sense in regards to the whole notion of Tychus replacing one cell with another, which is the backstory of the character we see in SC.
@@jj3cx if you like to cheese your enemies go protoss/zerg. Also, i think terrans and protoss are better for begginerd than zerg (just mine thought, cuz i suck at sc II lol)
34:49 "What does this tiny black hole do?" So you see that tiny round-ish robot that beamed it up there, he's like a non-combatant construction worker of their race. Their race have the power to transport things through time and space, units/personnel even buildings (that's how they 'construct' buildings). In order to do those time/space warping things, you need a Pylon (the diamond structure that comes out of it), then you can construct buildings or warp units around that vicinity. Apart from the very freakin awesome cinematics and fight scenes, it actually shows the strategic nature of the game. As you saw that probe (the tiny round construction worker guy) was in the middle of the circle. He is being protected because that team needs him (like how medics are important). Their goal was to defend and hold until the pylon finishes so the backup can come, which happened. The timing in this video hit the very, very sweet sweet spot of "JUST IN TIME!" which adds drama and urgency and hope to it but in-game you will see this as well wherein an army will see an opening and they have to engage it. If they miss it, the game will just be overturned against you in a second. SUCH. A. BEAUTIFUL. GAME.
@@Felix-kw7vm you mean NOT a coincidence right? And yes I agree it's most definitely intentional.. I'm just saying that, while it's a fun little detail, the fact that bits of those 90 seconds are 'slow-motion' time makes it slightly less 'cool' than it could have been. :)
It's so refreshing from the perspective of someone's who's been playing starcraft for a long time to see a dude who's never played the games get so hyped by the cinematics :D
starcraft has several cool cinematics, if you're interested, here's a list: wings of liberty - the betrayal wings of librty - the prophecy wings of liberty - ending heart of the swarm - shifting perspectives heart of the swarm - ending legacy of the void - chains legacy of the void - alone legacy of the void - warriors legacy of the void - unlikely allies legacy of the void - entombed legacy of the void - legacy
Definitely! It would also give Chris more background of the story and the intro cinematics. His reaction and analysis were so good I'd like to see what he says about the other in-game cinematics
A little rundown on Starcraft: Terran, Zerg, and Protoss are the 3 races. Terrans are the humans, Zerg are the monsters, Protoss are the advanced tech aliens. Queen of Blades used to be a Terran, but the Zerg turned her into their queen. The black hole was the Protoss warping in a "power pylon" to that location, which allowed the Protoss army to warp to where the lone soldier was from their main base. The scene actually is an amazing cinematic representation of an in game tactic.
@@fortuneboy9252 Cell... basically they were using their death row prisoners as grunts in their military, so even if they die in battle they don't lose anything. THey cannot escape the battle suits that are screwed onto them, so they are carrying their jail cell on them.
@@soscobra Well you aren't wrong but you aren't 100% correct soscobra. Some of the marines were volunteers or people who were forced into battle. They could all take their armor off with ease and had some freedom. However, yes you are correct on many criminals and death row prisoners being used as grunts lmao. Many had to undergo brain surgery implants and more to lessen their criminal and anti-social behavior.
@@soscobra This was specific to Tychus. A lot of the inmate Marines go through neutral resocialization (brainwashing) and are essentially "new soldiers" that are only distantly attached to their prior identities. Whereas Tychus was WELDED into his suit, other Marines are just put in them when they do battle. As the "Academy" building was noted in the original (deranged screaming ensues), units like Firebats, and reapers were far too deranged or far gone to truly be resocialized, so they are shoved into what can be described as idiot proof armor that essentially lets them rampage to their heart's content in a controllable manner. These roles are also the ones that are the most dangerous and prone to casualties specifically because they are the soldiers that they are most willing to pitch away. General marines don't do this because they aren't actually crazy.
As requested: Wings of Liberty: Tychus Findlay is a hero character, but he's a marine, which is the basic frontline unit for the Terrans. (Makes creating that unit look epic) Heart of the Swarm: Sarah Kerrigan was a human (red hair sniper), she was infested by the zerg (glowing orange eyes) then she was cured in the end of Wings of Liberty. Was this video a dream? Or a premonition? Legacy of the Void: There are 3 races in starcraft. The Humans, The bugs (Zerg) & the advanced elegant Aliens (The Protoss). The Protoss (the 3rd race) lost their homeworld of Aiur to the Zerg years ago. This is the beginning of the invasion to retake their homeworld. New methods pioneered on The Mandalorian (Disney+) www.starwars.com/news/the-mandalorian-stagecraft-feature They created a circular LED screen with a LED ceiling around the set, they rendered the environment digitally using video game engines then displayed the enviroments around the actors so they could react to it.
Nice video, continue that great job yes i could hear the wilhelm scream fun things to know blizzard wanted to make a Warhammer 40K (astartes :D) game but couldn't have the right, so they made starcraft instead, you can see the similarities marines - space marines (with the bulky armor) zerg - tyranides (bio oriented race that consume and parasite everything) protoss - eldar ( tech oriented race that is here longer than the human) Some précisions on the videos (and some spoilers for the lore and story): 1 video - the narrator is arcturus mensk the "emperor" of the human dominion that is a little portion of the galaxy and he is releasing Tychus as a marine and Tychus is close to the rebel Jim raynor the main human hero we follow. some marines are effectivly convict and have device on their armor to make sure they can control them, (like killing them instantly, or shutting down their armor) the little voice you hear asking tychus to advance on the platform is the AI that gives you the mission objectives often in starcraft 1 and sometime in the human campaing of the 2 the first cinematic isa prelude for the first of the three starcraft 2 games "wings of liberty" where you play mostly the human 2 video- sarah kerrigan was a human ghost (invisibility cloaking, sniper, nuclear target designation, some EMP and psychic power - elite unit and even then she was the best in term of psy power) that was abandoned by arcturus mensk on the first game so he could advance and use that oportunity to becomes emperor resulting in kerrigan being captured by the zergs (bug) infected to make them an agent of their hive mind (the overmind) when the overmind was destructed in starcraft 1 she then take it's place with her psychic power to control the swarm (or a party of it) and then continue to rage war against the other races (she is cured at the end of wing of liberty of the "endoctrinement" the overmind put on her when she was infected, easily recognizable as she lost her skeleton wings for a time) but still chose to continue to control a portion of the zergs as she is not fully human and the human , so you follow her on the second game as she try to make herself a place in the galaxy and discovers lot of secrets. UNITS SHOWN (may forgot some) HUMAN side the little human fighter are viking if i recall, can transform themselves to be air-air (missile at the start) or ground-ground with the mignum. the huge crashing ship that turn all in white as it crash is a human battlecruiser, one of the more pricy polivalent and powerfull human unit (air ground targetting) and it's a similar model that the heroes of wings of liberty are on during the campaign (not the same obviously but similar model) tank little precision, when they move they can attack doing some damage (can only target ground unit) but when they morph and put the stabilisator on the ground they can do greater damage and fire a farther but can't fire too close to themselves and their blast have an area of effect) marines (basic unit, can target ground and air) ZERG side the biologic ship that lauch the zerg troups is and overlord, helping to manage the unit and transport it (very vulnerable) the little critters are zerling ( sometime with wings that help them going faster) the rolling one (that you can see on the 3rd movie) and with green color are Baneling using suicide explosion to spray acid everywhere (useful for attacking building or armored vehicule but vulnerable and can explode inside your troup) the slithering one is the hydralisk, one of the most versatile unit, it can attack at distance, ground or air unit (there is only ground and air in this game they don't differenciate air/space) the huge one that crush the tank is a mutalisk (melee resilent thing but pricy too) 3 video - the protoss is the second that came from that part of the galaxy with the zerg, you learn that the two race were created by an ancient and advanced race at the end of starcraft 1 that video takes place on Aiur the homeworld of the protoss, to know they are a psychic race and the zerg are a biologic race, so zerg regenerate over time, protoss regenerate shield (all unit have shields) but can't be healed by their own means (they can with human help) they are an advanced race that know how to use ther psy power and some void transfert, but they need coordonate, that what the probe do in creating the blackhole, it create a passage to lead the building in the designated place. that building is a pylon, one that produce a psy field (you can see it expending as the pylone came) that field is needed to power other building but also is used as a place to teleport unit only covering PROTOSS units ( zerg are listed above as it's the same) the guys with double blade are acolyte, basic melee unit for the protoss the two with shoulder arch are templar, support psychic power unit like psystorm, illusion ... the two fuse with one another (already there in starcraft 1) to produce an archon, a more resilient unit that can attack on the ground and on the air but loose all the different power
@@irivialniavy6086 nicely sumarized, just some name adjutments - the flying zerg mothership is called a "Leviathan", Overmind was a creature that controlled the zerg swarm in Starcraft 1 and was basicaly stationary. The giant creature stomping the tank is "Ultralisk", Mutalisks are a smaller flying unit (they can be seen in the Wings of Liberty trailer when the war pictres are shown). The protoss units with psi blades are Zealots, not Acolytes (those are in Warcraft :D) anyways, storywise still good
@@BernardoPC117 its filmed with real time rendering. They still do minor post work but basiclly the background looks warped to everyone that isnt standing at the camera, but looks perfect at that spot. Any post work is easier also because they have a data set of everything filmed in the background but in full 3d to work with. Its pretty epic.
I am extremely upset that he didn't cover the Siege-Tank Transformation. The Flesh ripple when the drop pod launched The spirit leaving the Zealots body when he died The Archon Merge and Archon Death
Your third sentence is wrong. Just his teleportation module was damaged. This module teleports zealot when his vital signs become critical in save place, where are his brothers can help him. This time module was damaged and he remained on battle field. (P.S. sorry for my bad english :( )
He should've watched Kerrigan's Betrayal after the Wings of Liberty Intro Cinematic. It's such a Key Cinematic for the whole SC2 Story and simply amazing.
Not gonna lie that is the best part of the whole trailer. Everyone is like "WOW VIKING DOING A BACKFLIP" but then the ultra shows whose race is the focus of this expansion.
Dumb Viking pilot, trying to ground-pound with a freaking Ultralisk. If he survived, I'm sure he got demoted to Marine. And the cost of the destroyed Viking got taken out of his pay for the next 20 years :)
It's place on the campaign is when Artanis send their Akul'delar (first line of warriors). That was the first pylon built/warped in there. That warrior is Kaldaris, watch "Reclamation" (it's on UA-cam).
Chris, three things: I love how grossed out you get. You should do a Let's Play of Starcraft, you would get all the views. We all fangirl a bit, when watching Blizzard cinematics.
@Obi-Wan Kenobi Legacy of the void is the best cinematic, I agree. Probably because the protoss are the most powerful and shocking race in the game in terms of history.
Cliff notes : This is Starcraft 2 so there's a whole story in the 1st one + expac. Basically a space free for all between 3 races (Terran humans, Zerg insect+Alien mix high numbers expendables connected via hive mind, protoss noble energy based aliens, low numbers all have shield+ health, very high tech) The 1st trailer: is the reveal that after 20yrs Blizzard is making the sequel after decades of fans asking for it. Hence the 'hell its about time' line at the end that resonated with us fans The 2nd trailer is for Starcraft 2 expac 1: Like you guessed Kerrigan (the chick) is the ruler of the zerg, she's basically dreaming of revenge for turning her in a zerg. Its the first time for us to see a lot of units in full cinematic 3d. That made it even more epic again for fans. The 3rd trailer (my favorite) sees the exiled protoss trying to recover their planet (lost in SC1) from the zerg infestation. The little sphere robot starts the warp in of a pylon which once here will enable warp in of reinforcements Basically these guys are battling and giving their lives for the sole purpose of defending that pylon, the symbol of them taking their birthright back. The zealots have the blades and the high Templar float in the air with psionic attacks that look like electric storms. Zealot no. 1 sees the banelings (kamikaze units that explode) heading for the pylon, he tears through one, allows his shield to blow up on the next and dies from last explosion. The Templars seeing the huge ultralisk realise they have to go through the ultimate sacrifice : merge into one by combining in an immensely powerful archon that has a timed existence. The process is irreversible. The last zealot stands proud in the face of the impending defeat. But they managed to last long enough for the pylon to warp in and as it does troops are beamed in its area of effect from the ships in orbit ready to tear through the zerg in front of them. Hope that helps understand the mood :) Question for you : do you have a mirror in front of you? Reflecting the monitor or do you have another monitor/ laptop mirroring the screen?
@@PajakTheBlind according to the lore, once merged they'll "slowly" burn out like a stars do. To prevent that, they have a psionic maelstrom around them (the shield they have). That would explain why they have barely any life but a huge shield in game. In the cinematics I think the archon took too much damage from the ultralisk, so there was no shield to prevent the energy from radiating which resulted the ultralsik, since it was right on them, to evaporate.
I don’t usually watch film/animation analysis videos, but damn this was a fun one. I love it when professionals watch something and react to it with the same giddy kid-like enthusiasm that we as the audience feel when watching this kind of stuff. I also like how he points out how the light brightness during the marine fire/zealot psy blade is reduced when used consecutively to sustain the hype onto the next action. I also never noticed how frequently and smoothly the scenes change until he pointed it out. Kudos to the animators and kudos to you my dude ! Stumbled onto this gem of a video, but I think your channel is gonna grow super fast
maaaaaan, the amount of films i had to watch for semi-homework when i was going to school for animation... Live action, 2d and 3d.. If its relatively related its a must!
someone should point out that Blizz doesnt do these cinematics... they outsource it to some studio (or atleast they used tobefor. hearth of the swarm is the proof since the ending got leaked becuase of that) so ppl need to stop praising blizz and praise the guys who actually did it
This is much greater than a regular reaction video. Having you explain how everything works in the cinematics is very informative, and even helpful for people who want to go into filmmaking!
Literally one of the only guys who genuinely gets me hyped about cinematics i've already seen. Accent is perfection and the reactions make it more hype, I also love how you question things man, so glad I found your channel! :D
There’s a lot of hidden context that you can miss in these trailers without knowing some context of the series The first trailer ends with the “Hell its about time” quote as a way of the fans and developers saying “it’s about time this game is out” since it took almost 12 years to release Starcraft 2 after the first one was released The second trailer shows The Queen of blades in a human form because it’s right where the initial game ended and where the DLC “Heart of the Swarm” begins And for the 3rd DLC it further expands the story but it’s a little tricky to explain Regardless the Starcraft series has a lot of life behind it and I would recommend ONE MORE scene from this series and it comes from the game, where it shows Kerrigan (The Queen of blades) being betrayed and left for dead, I would look up Starcraft 2 Kerrigan betrayal and it should be the first option that pops up
As a Xenomorph (Alien franchise) fan first, Tyranid player second (Warhammer 40K) and a Zerg main third; the Heart of the Swarm cinematic is one of the best things I've ever seen.
The "warp thing" is literally them just warping in a structure. They construct their buildings elsewhere and teleport them onto the battlefield. In this case they are warping in a pylon, which allows them to safely teleport soldiers.
I like getting the perspective of someone who doesn't know any context for the videos but uses their experience to guess what type of story the cinematic techniques are trying to tell. There are other great in-game cinematics from starcraft 2
"kinda like story driven, story telling?" i´ve played Starcraft since i could read. and i´m convinced that Starcraft has the best story of all strategy games out there
Starcraft 2 story is not that amazing in my opinion... Kinda generic. The lore and trailers and all are really sick and the gameplay is fine, but there are way better stories out there imo...
It is generally hard to make a good story for an RTS. Most of the time it is the next objective to defeat the enemy. Command and Conquer, Nod campaigns generally do a good job as well with their internal strife. Starcraft 2 Offers out of mission dialogue and advance customization.
I love this guy! lol. His enthusiasm is so infectious. I've seen all these cinematics years ago but it's so fun watching them again with Chris, and even learning a few things about film making!
I really like how you squel like a kid seeing those energy blades because I'm pretty sure that's what Blizzard wants us to feel watching their amazing trailers/opening cinematics. It's like their way of saying: "Hey this is going to be a game so no worries you can be a kid again." I personally feel like video games are the epitome of Human Art. Music is perhaps one or two dimensional with the sound and sometimes an MV/performance. Movies have the dimensions of Sound, Visuals, and also the Story. Video Games have all three, with one more, you get to interact with the media, unlike anything before, make choices, be a part of the whole experience. Man I love Video games. Thank you Humans for these.
I agree completely, and this is the exact reason video games are so difficult to adapt into movies: if you adapt a book you're gaining dimensions, giving people more than they had. You adapt a game, and you're taking away interaction, making the whole thing underwhelming.
@@Brainth_1780 exactly man. Just look at video-game-adapted movies, almost, if not all of them are pretty garbage. On the other hand, movie-adapted video games usually do pretty well eg. Alien, Predator etc. I think people should adapt more movies into video games than adapt video games into movies.
To rapidly explain the second one. It's more like a vision of her destiny. She was cured for the zerg form but the Swarm continue to call for her. Sorry for my bad english if i made some mistake
Legacy of the Void intro gotta be my favorite Blizzard cinematic EVER, it's true not only the lore, but also the gameplay, they even made the pylon warp time fit it 👏👏👏
I'm SO happy you decided to give SC cinematics a watch, great job! But you have to do one more! I'm sorry if someone else already mentioned it but you HAVE to watch Zeratul VS Kerrigan cinematic from the first of these games, SC2 Wings of Liberty, the one from 2010. If you liked those other ones so much, without even getting any of the story, YOU WILL FUCKING LOVE THAT ONE. It is a lot easier to understand what the hell is going on and that one really captures the ''otherworldlyness'' of the series.
Watch the “new Gettysburg” cut scene and you’ll understand what happened to Kerrigan/queen of blades. Just like Warcraft the lore behind Starcraft is extensive. After watching your reaction to the videos I realized how they reflect the style of game they are for. Starcraft being a real time strategy and Warcraft being mmo. I love your enthusiasm but you really need to play them to understand the story.
I love the "do not be afraid to study something and try to recreate it" line. It's very true. Don't be embarrassed if you made a drawing, a painting, an animation, etc but you got the idea from something or someone else. It's a very good way to learn. People always say just practice to be good, but don't forget to find inspiration. It's hard to practice something when you have no idea what you want to make. Every creator always takes inspiration from something. So start by watching others and take inspiration from them. However there are limits of course. Don't copy something and try to claim it as your own. Now that is a dick move.
@@trentsims The problem with cataclysm was only the end. It was too much time between the last content patch and the following expansion. And maybe that Thrall basically just showed up and gave deathwing the final blow instead of the players or a character that did more in the story.
In the third video "Legacy of the Void", the black hole/energy sphere you were confused about is how the Protoss "summon" their structures. The particular structure they are summoning allows other units to warp onto the battlefield very quickly to reinforce their comrades.
I'm going to tell you EXACTLY why i subbed after watching a few of your videos. You have good content, that's a given; and you are knowledgable about the effects etc and have a good perspective that translates well to people not educated in visual effects creation. But... the number one favorite thing about your channel so far.. the fact the monitor is on an easel being treated like the art that it is. THAT is why i subbed. Good on you. Keep em coming.
Just a tiny bit more of game lore: In the third video: The Protoss, are able to extract energy and create matter to channel more of that energy from a different dimension (the void). That little ball that spawns that blackhole-looking thing is a builder unit summoning (or creating) one the of the basic buildings (Pylon) that channels the energy that powers all of the technology available for that game race. After advancing some within a game, the player is able to transport units to any available Pylon anywhere in the map. A good strategy for a player of this game, is to build lots of units, gain the ability to teleport, sending out a sole builder to an obscure part of the map near the enemy base, build a pylon, then transport your units for a surprise attack. Ultimately, this is the strategy shown in the trailer. The first few Protoss warriors, were sent to protect the drone worker and the pylon, to allow a larger number of warriors to teleport in, so that they can establish the beachhead to retake their planet.
@@OtherHarmony Exactly.. They are just moving things around Space not building them in place - those "Black holes" made by probes are just portals to push building thru

5:49 interesting that you mention the Terran CMC Combat Suit reminded you of the Astartes, as StarCraft was originally intended as a Warhammer 40k game, but when Blizzard couldn't hammer out a deal with Games workshop, they transitioned the designs into their own property
This is an often repeated rumor that has never been substantiated by a single inside source, and denied repeatedly by both Blizzard and GW. The similarity of the Zerg and Tyranids is frequently cited as proof, totally ignoring that the Zerg actually used that look first; and that in 1998 the Tyranids used guns, looked different, and weren't on a huge biology/evolution/adaptation kick at that time. Instead, what almost certainly actually happened is that they both drew inspiration from similar older works - such as Starship Troopers and H.R. Giger.
I love your reactions to these trailers, bro Legacy of the Void starcraft was my favorite cinematic ever... its so epic it literally makes me cry I love it

I just love how passionate you are with these. It almost permeates thru the screen. As a filmmaker it must be exhilarating, inspiring and frustrating also to you to explore the design and all that. Keep doing you chris.. 💓 The warp black hole thing is made by the probe. It's basically a building block pylon where it provides the energy to build other structures like a portal transport.

throwing my backstory in to everyone else's (cause I think theirs are too cliffnote-y) In Starcraft 1, Sarah Kerrigan (the alien chick) was a human stealth agent with powerful psionic abilities, but was betrayed by Arcturus Mengsk (the statue she walks on? His likeness). He meant for the zerg to kill her, but they instead infested her to make her like them because her psionics (she had been questioning his motives and end goals). After she was infested, the original leader of the zerg (The Overmind) was killed by a protoss named Tassadar and control of the Zerg Swarm passed to her (her moniker was the "Queen of Blades", probably due to the sick looking wings coming out of her hips). She ended up being quite the scourge of pretty much everything. . At the end of the Wings of Liberty campaign in Starcraft 2, James Raynor (not the guy in the cinematic, but was someone Kerrigan had been in a relationship with when she was human) uses an alien artifact left behind by god-like aliens (known as the Xel Naga) to mostly purge the zerg infestation from her (she still retained her ability to take command of zerg units and, obviously, retained her chitinous hair). I'm guessing the cinematic is some sort of dream--although, she doesn't get the purple emissive map until partway through the Heart of the Swarm campaign--thus, it turning from zerged-Kerrigan to mostly-un-zerged-Kerrigan (that last bit might've just been to temporally place it as shortly after the previous campaign) . oh, and no, that is not earth in the 3rd one. That's Aiur, the homeworld of the protoss. Another thing that happened in Starcraft 1 was the zerg razing it and the Overmind implanting itself (himself?) there before being killed by Tassadar.
Just wanna note that landscape shot he stayed on for a while was the ruins of a Nexus, a critical component of any Protoss base. Was a neat way to tell people that know that it's definitely Aiur. Also Mengsk is the narrator of the first trailer In the second trailer you can see them taking down a statue of him. Little nod to how shit got real for the Dominion (and for Mengsk). I think you kill him toward to the end of that game, idr. Foreshadowing?
He *just* said he doesn't like horror, lol. Poor guy. That is a short video tho, we should give him a bunch of super short league ones so he can get a full video length out of them. Like 3 or 4 of the shorter ones.
I think my favorite parts of all 3 of those videos was The music for heart of the swarm intro. How it synced up with everything just impacted everything so much more

You got to love that moment of realization. The name is self explanatory and answered the question.
Wow yoy dont have replies i didnt even read anything

Wasn't Tychus' suit special because his is the only one with the "mobile cell" configuration? In exchange for freedom he was assigned to spy on Raynor and kill him. Only until then would they remove his suit. Therefore, I presume the standard Marine suits are removable.
"How many..." "Swarm, hm, okay"
PvZ in a nutshell
Since i cant find anyone who has explained it:
When you said someone explain the Queen of Blades to you, here is a short summary
The Queen of Blades was originally a Terran Ghost (a recon sniper basically) named Sarah Kerrigan.
Cut to some time later in the story:
eventually she loses her connection to the zerg and goes back to being MOSTLY human. she was in a cell/lab sleeping and what you saw was her having a dream or nightmare if you will. as you can see by her hair, she is still partially zerg..but she is no longer evil or running off zerg instinct or being controlled by the Overmind.
if i missed anything important, feel free to chime in
Nope. You Didnt miss anything unless you have to write a whole Wikipedia entry.
Didn't miss anything. Unless you wanted to recite most of the plot of StarCraft, Brood War, and Wings of Liberty
You didn't miss anything unless you write a whole Wikipedia entry... this kind of got away from me :|
Nice answer, he nerd yo watch the brood war history to understand the conematics
Her "nightmare" is also foreshadowing, because Kerrigan reconnects with the zerg, and becomes the queen of blades near the end of heart of the swarm.
These cinematics get even cooler when you understand the game mechanics and how well the animators respected the mechanics while, at the same time, making it look awesome.

Don't forget the lore as well

Agreed
The “black hole” is a sign that a Protoss structure is being warped from a warcraft (typically a mothership in orbit” onto a planets surface, the reason they stood and fought was to defend that pylon in warp, and once it was warped, the mothership started mass warping in soldiers(shown at the end before the charge)

To clarify a little bit of lore:
Starcraft is real time strategy game with three playable factions:
- The terrans (humans)
- The Zerg (insectoids): they are lead by the queen of blades after their former master (the overmind) was killed. They are highly polymorphic and can adapt/evolve by assimilating DNA from multiple species
- The Protoss (blue humanoids) : Large, strong, highly intelligent and very technologically advanced race with natural psionic affinities.
Her human form is shown in the end
Third Video: The Protoss are leading an invasion effort to reclaim their home planet of Aiur from the Zerg. They deploy troops and structures by warping them using the blue energy "black holes"

34:49 "What does this tiny black hole do?"
So you see that tiny round-ish robot that beamed it up there, he's like a non-combatant construction worker of their race.

A little rundown on Starcraft:
Terran, Zerg, and Protoss are the 3 races.

Sarah Kerrigan was a human (red hair sniper), she was infested by the zerg (glowing orange eyes) then she was cured in the end of Wings of Liberty. Was this video a dream? Or a premonition?
Legacy of the Void:
There are 3 races in starcraft. The Humans, The bugs (Zerg) & the advanced elegant Aliens (The Protoss). The Protoss (the 3rd race) lost their homeworld of Aiur to the Zerg years ago. This is the beginning of the invasion to retake their homeworld.
New methods pioneered on The Mandalorian (Disney+)
www.starwars.com/news/the-mandalorian-stagecraft-feature
They created a circular LED screen with a LED ceiling around the set, they rendered the environment digitally using video game engines then displayed the enviroments around the actors so they could react to it.
They do that in The mandalorian to help in the filming process but the final cut is not real time rendering or is it?
Nice video, continue that great job
yes i could hear the wilhelm scream
fun things to know blizzard wanted to make a Warhammer 40K (astartes :D) game but couldn't have the right, so they made starcraft instead, you can see the similarities
marines - space marines (with the bulky armor)
zerg - tyranides (bio oriented race that consume and parasite everything)
protoss - eldar ( tech oriented race that is here longer than the human)
Some précisions on the videos (and some spoilers for the lore and story):
1 video - the narrator is arcturus mensk the "emperor" of the human dominion that is a little portion of the galaxy and he is releasing Tychus as a marine and Tychus is close to the rebel Jim raynor the main human hero we follow. some marines are effectivly convict and have device on their armor to make sure they can control them, (like killing them instantly, or shutting down their armor) the little voice you hear asking tychus to advance on the platform is the AI that gives you the mission objectives often in starcraft 1 and sometime in the human campaing of the 2
the first cinematic isa prelude for the first of the three starcraft 2 games "wings of liberty" where you play mostly the human
2 video- sarah kerrigan was a human ghost (invisibility cloaking, sniper, nuclear target designation, some EMP and psychic power - elite unit and even then she was the best in term of psy power) that was abandoned by arcturus mensk on the first game so he could advance and use that oportunity to becomes emperor resulting in kerrigan being captured by the zergs (bug) infected to make them an agent of their hive mind (the overmind) when the overmind was destructed in starcraft 1 she then take it's place with her psychic power to control the swarm (or a party of it) and then continue to rage war against the other races (she is cured at the end of wing of liberty of the "endoctrinement" the overmind put on her when she was infected, easily recognizable as she lost her skeleton wings for a time) but still chose to continue to control a portion of the zergs as she is not fully human and the human , so you follow her on the second game as she try to make herself a place in the galaxy and discovers lot of secrets.
UNITS SHOWN (may forgot some)
HUMAN side
the little human fighter are viking if i recall, can transform themselves to be air-air (missile at the start) or ground-ground with the mignum.
the huge crashing ship that turn all in white as it crash is a human battlecruiser, one of the more pricy polivalent and powerfull human unit (air ground targetting) and it's a similar model that the heroes of wings of liberty are on during the campaign (not the same obviously but similar model)
tank little precision, when they move they can attack doing some damage (can only target ground unit) but when they morph and put the stabilisator on the ground they can do greater damage and fire a farther but can't fire too close to themselves and their blast have an area of effect)
marines (basic unit, can target ground and air)
ZERG side
the biologic ship that lauch the zerg troups is and overlord, helping to manage the unit and transport it (very vulnerable)
the little critters are zerling ( sometime with wings that help them going faster)
the rolling one (that you can see on the 3rd movie) and with green color are Baneling using suicide explosion to spray acid everywhere (useful for attacking building or armored vehicule but vulnerable and can explode inside your troup)
the slithering one is the hydralisk, one of the most versatile unit, it can attack at distance, ground or air unit (there is only ground and air in this game they don't differenciate air/space)
the huge one that crush the tank is a mutalisk (melee resilent thing but pricy too)
3 video - the protoss is the second that came from that part of the galaxy with the zerg, you learn that the two race were created by an ancient and advanced race at the end of starcraft 1
that video takes place on Aiur the homeworld of the protoss, to know they are a psychic race and the zerg are a biologic race, so zerg regenerate over time, protoss regenerate shield (all unit have shields) but can't be healed by their own means (they can with human help) they are an advanced race that know how to use ther psy power and some void transfert, but they need coordonate, that what the probe do in creating the blackhole, it create a passage to lead the building in the designated place. that building is a pylon, one that produce a psy field (you can see it expending as the pylone came) that field is needed to power other building but also is used as a place to teleport unit
only covering PROTOSS units ( zerg are listed above as it's the same)
the guys with double blade are acolyte, basic melee unit for the protoss
the two with shoulder arch are templar, support psychic power unit like psystorm, illusion ...
the two fuse with one another (already there in starcraft 1) to produce an archon, a more resilient unit that can attack on the ground and on the air but loose all the different power
@@irivialniavy6086 It's a zealot not acolyte
@@irivialniavy6086 nicely sumarized, just some name adjutments - the flying zerg mothership is called a "Leviathan", Overmind was a creature that controlled the zerg swarm in Starcraft 1 and was basicaly stationary. The giant creature stomping the tank is "Ultralisk", Mutalisks are a smaller flying unit (they can be seen in the Wings of Liberty trailer when the war pictres are shown). The protoss units with psi blades are Zealots, not Acolytes (those are in Warcraft :D)
anyways, storywise still good
@@BernardoPC117 its filmed with real time rendering.
The Flesh ripple when the drop pod launched
The spirit leaving the Zealots body when he died
The Archon Merge and Archon Death
Your third sentence is wrong. Just his teleportation module was damaged. This module teleports zealot when his vital signs become critical in save place, where are his brothers can help him. This time module was damaged and he remained on battle field. (P.S. sorry for my bad english :( )

"Why do they keep... Oh right Swarm."
He should've watched Kerrigan's Betrayal after the Wings of Liberty Intro Cinematic. It's such a Key Cinematic for the whole SC2 Story and simply amazing.
The scene where Kerrigan got left behind alone in the planet during a swarm?
Yup. It's the best cinematic in the franchise.
@@ProuvaireJean And I REALLY love that they took that pivotal scene from Starcraft 1 and did it incredible justice in the SC2 cinematic.
@@ProuvaireJean I love this cinematic, too. But Kerrigan is my favorite character anyway.
I loved his disappointment when the Viking was just yeeted by the Ultralisk.
"that didn't last long" LOL glad you agree, dude.
Megalisk, not ultralisk. ultralisk small, megalisk ...waaaoo what that building is walking?? OH shit! RUN!

Chris, three things:

You should do a Let's Play of Starcraft, you would get all the views.
We all fangirl a bit, when watching Blizzard cinematics.
@Obi-Wan Kenobi To me one of the best will always be the original WoW trailer, but Legacy of the Void is also amazing ^^
@Obi-Wan Kenobi Legacy of the void is the best cinematic, I agree. Probably because the protoss are the most powerful and shocking race in the game in terms of history.
Legacy of the Void trailer is the best game trailer in history.
I think that the Oblivion trailer is better, tbh. As for the strictly cinematics, gotta be Heart of the Swarm (and I'm a Protoss guy).

Zerglings when they hear “power overwhelming”:

Cliff notes :
This is Starcraft 2 so there's a whole story in the 1st one + expac.
Basically a space free for all between 3 races (Terran humans, Zerg insect+Alien mix high numbers expendables connected via hive mind, protoss noble energy based aliens, low numbers all have shield+ health, very high tech)
The 1st trailer: is the reveal that after 20yrs Blizzard is making the sequel after decades of fans asking for it. Hence the 'hell its about time' line at the end that resonated with us fans
The 2nd trailer is for Starcraft 2 expac 1: Like you guessed Kerrigan (the chick) is the ruler of the zerg, she's basically dreaming of revenge for turning her in a zerg.
Its the first time for us to see a lot of units in full cinematic 3d. That made it even more epic again for fans.
The 3rd trailer (my favorite) sees the exiled protoss trying to recover their planet (lost in SC1) from the zerg infestation. The little sphere robot starts the warp in of a pylon which once here will enable warp in of reinforcements
Basically these guys are battling and giving their lives for the sole purpose of defending that pylon, the symbol of them taking their birthright back.
Hope that helps understand the mood :)
Question for you : do you have a mirror in front of you? Reflecting the monitor or do you have another monitor/ laptop mirroring the screen?
I doubt Archons are timed - I'd say that being pressed he decided to suicide and take the ultralisk with him.
@@Defs121 Great explanation!

12 years!! 20 years would have been terrible :O :O
Stumbled onto this gem of a video, but I think your channel is gonna grow super fast
you deserv veteran's discount if you remember times when you were playing that game when new chapters were coming out with these trailers
A filmmaker not watching Blizzard's material is like an animator not ever watching a Disney film.
maaaaaan, the amount of films i had to watch for semi-homework when i was going to school for animation...

HotS trailer is just a chain of "Oh you think you've seen big, here's something EVEN BIGGER" one after another
There's always a bigger fish...

Wow, thanks!
"I just turned into a 9 yo kid again."
Yeap, that is what happens with these games. :D
Same. I remember playing SC back in the day. Man.
There’s a lot of hidden context that you can miss in these trailers without knowing some context of the series
The first trailer ends with the “Hell its about time” quote as a way of the fans and developers saying “it’s about time this game is out” since it took almost 12 years to release Starcraft 2 after the first one was released
The second trailer shows The Queen of blades in a human form because it’s right where the initial game ended and where the DLC “Heart of the Swarm” begins
And for the 3rd DLC it further expands the story but it’s a little tricky to explain
Regardless the Starcraft series has a lot of life behind it and I would recommend ONE MORE scene from this series and it comes from the
game, where it shows Kerrigan (The Queen of blades) being betrayed and left for dead, I would look up Starcraft 2 Kerrigan betrayal and it should be the first option that pops up
Yeah, cinematic of Kerrigan is do good, that they made remake of it actually - it was present in both original StarCraft and StarCraft 2
@Бошњак Free to play now.
As a Xenomorph (Alien franchise) fan first, Tyranid player second (Warhammer 40K) and a Zerg main third; the Heart of the Swarm cinematic is one of the best things I've ever seen.
It has incredible rewatch value, so atmospheric and epic. Now that I stumbled across this video by accident, I'll just go watch it another time.
10:25 His facial expression then: "BLACKHOLE!" This guy is a little kid at the playground. Adorable haha
The "warp thing" is literally them just warping in a structure. They construct their buildings elsewhere and teleport them onto the battlefield. In this case they are warping in a pylon, which allows them to safely teleport soldiers.
Proxy pylon bro!

"You must construct additional pylons."
Man, legacy of the void still gives me goosebumps, best trailer ever for sure

No, bigger, and ten times as bad ass. Would probably rip a terminator in half.
Or a full army of them
Especially with jimmy by his side
I like getting the perspective of someone who doesn't know any context for the videos but uses their experience to guess what type of story the cinematic techniques are trying to tell. There are other great in-game cinematics from starcraft 2
Agreed. It's more fun when he doesn't know the lore. Watching someone piece it together is half the fun.
I bet that Legacy of the void(3rd one) was literally a porn to him since it was full of fx and special effects XD
i said it before, but: "Arthas Betrayal"
it's an 20! year old cinematic, and i would would love it, if u were to analyse it.
"kinda like story driven, story telling?"
i´ve played Starcraft since i could read. and i´m convinced that Starcraft has the best story of all strategy games out there
Homeworld comes to mind. ;)
Starcraft 2 story is not that amazing in my opinion... Kinda generic. The lore and trailers and all are really sick and the gameplay is fine, but there are way better stories out there imo...
"Starcraft has the best story of all strategy games out there"
Warcraft literally exists. XD
It is generally hard to make a good story for an RTS. Most of the time it is the next objective to defeat the enemy. Command and Conquer, Nod campaigns generally do a good job as well with their internal strife. Starcraft 2 Offers out of mission dialogue and advance customization.
Broodwar had a great story
But Starcraft 2 turned it into a generic movie
I propose a compromise:
>Watch them first for pure new experience reaction
>Look up the lore
>Come back to analyze
>Discuss
I love this guy! lol. His enthusiasm is so infectious. I've seen all these cinematics years ago but it's so fun watching them again with Chris, and even learning a few things about film making!
I really like how you squel like a kid seeing those energy blades because I'm pretty sure that's what Blizzard wants us to feel watching their amazing trailers/opening cinematics. It's like their way of saying: "Hey this is going to be a game so no worries you can be a kid again."
I personally feel like video games are the epitome of Human Art.
I couldn't agree more
I agree completely, and this is the exact reason video games are so difficult to adapt into movies: if you adapt a book you're gaining dimensions, giving people more than they had.
The cutscene is called "The betrayal of Kerrigan"

Yup.
Second that. It is so... on point with regard how the story unfolded eventually.
indeed he should watch that scene, IMO its a better cutscene than all 3 trailers combined

Warp in their structure
I'm going to tell you EXACTLY why i subbed after watching a few of your videos. You have good content, that's a given; and you are knowledgable about the effects etc and have a good perspective that translates well to people not educated in visual effects creation. But... the number one favorite thing about your channel so far.. the fact the monitor is on an easel being treated like the art that it is. THAT is why i subbed. Good on you. Keep em coming.
Just a tiny bit more of game lore:
In the third video: The Protoss, are able to extract energy and create matter to channel more of that energy from a different dimension (the void).
The first few Protoss warriors, were sent to protect the drone worker and the pylon, to allow a larger number of warriors to teleport in, so that they can establish the beachhead to retake their planet.
dont the protoss i the lore have literall planets of constructed buildings that they teleport onto the battlefield using warp technology?
@@OtherHarmony Exactly.. They are just moving things around Space not building them in place - those "Black holes" made by probes are just portals to push building thru
One correction: only the taldarim and nerazim draw power from the void. The khalai do not, it is heresy for them.

Giger.

if you want: wings of liberty is 1 of 3 chapters and that one is free. this is rly awsome strategy game with many features. there are also online modes: co-op, PvP, ect.
dubing, story and gameplay are 10/10. and with each new chapter graphics and effects are 5 times better. if you are not going to play it, at least do yourself a favor and watch some cinematics form game, even w/o knowing what's happening, you can stll enjoy effects

The Starcraft Broodwar intro is very cool too.
It's from 1998 and definitely looks like it, but the style is just as amazing and sick as these.
throwing my backstory in to everyone else's (cause I think theirs are too cliffnote-y)
In Starcraft 1, Sarah Kerrigan (the alien chick) was a human stealth agent with powerful psionic abilities, but was betrayed by Arcturus Mengsk (the statue she walks on?
I'm guessing the cinematic is some sort of dream--although, she doesn't get the purple emissive map until partway through the Heart of the Swarm campaign--thus, it turning from zerged-Kerrigan to mostly-un-zerged-Kerrigan (that last bit might've just been to temporally place it as shortly after the previous campaign)
.
oh, and no, that is not earth in the 3rd one. That's Aiur, the homeworld of the protoss. Another thing that happened in Starcraft 1 was the zerg razing it and the Overmind implanting itself (himself?) there before being killed by Tassadar.
Kimmuryiel I didn’t think it was a dream, I always thought it was during the brood war before she got “uninfested”
StarCraft was my first game I ever played and I still LOVE IT till this day!
Please react to the LoL Fiddlesticks: Terror in Demacia
Its awesome!
How it synced up with everything just impacted everything so much more
Should react to Alone, a Legacy of the Void cinematic.
Original WoW, WoW The Burning Crusade, WoW Cataclysm, WoW Mists of Pandaria, WoW Warlords of Draenor, WoW Legion and all the other Star Wars The Old Republic cinematics.
Awesome cinamatics and 2 of the best one liners that gave me chills. Hell, it's about time. Bc starcraft fans waited so long for 2 and power overwhelming just because its such a good hightening of the voice line.
