Man, Chi Cheng was one of the coolest bassists out there in music. RIP to the GOAT. Still one of the GOATs forever.
This was one of those songs that initially sounded weird to me, but after 3/4 listens I realized it was a masterpiece

the most crazy thing is realizing i grew up to this band without even realizing it was deftones playing when i my stepdad was driving my six year old self wherever. he has my thanks for my music taste developing into this.

One of my favorite parts of this song (other than the fact that it’s an amazing track) is that the “Soon, I’ll let you go” part also sounds like “She’ll not let you go,” giving the impression of deception. Idk if that was intentional, but it’s really cool either way

it hits home, it really does.
As much as I loved White Pony right when I first listened to it, for some reason this song took sooooo long to grow on me. I just could not wrap my head around the hook, the melody or just the flow of the song in general. idk how but all the sudden it clicked for me after listening to it without the rest of the album and I get it now, it’s one of my favorites currently

White Pony is one of the best albums ever made.
I was just reading up on meanings of this song considering it is one of my most fav Deftones songs I wanted to have some intake on it. Out of all the meanings I got a completely diff opinion on it..other than it being what Chino explained as it of a hostage situation. To me I believe it is like he is with a girl that is bad news or bad or good for him? He is unsure but keeps seeing her anyways as he loves it (her) and the things they do. So he succumbs himself to the pain and agony of what love brings as love is pain and pleasure after all. Thats my take on it...I couldn’t find a place to put my comment on the meaning anywhere else so I put it here so. And yes R.I.P. Chi..badass group for sure brings back memories of my childhood!

The first time I saw Deftones live was with Godsmack and Puddle of Mud. Just pure energy. Love these guys

SAME! Puddle of Mudd opened and had the house lights up when they were playing and there was hardly anyone there yet and at one point the guitar player was just like, fuck it and threw his guitar into the air and walked off stage mid-song and the rest of the band was just like I guess we're done then. It was glorious.
Also, Chino was whipping that mic around and they had to kind of stop the show at one point so they could find his mic. It was ridiculous.

Wow, everything about this track is magic. Chino's vocals/ melody are incredible, the bassline is so sinister, the guitars are tight and the drums are punching. Oh and the lyrics are on another level. Love Deftones.

This song forever stays in my memory along with me pressing play on my discman as i walk out the door to school in the morning for the bus sooo many times twenty years ago.
for me it was walking home from school on a particular autumn evening where it was already dark by about 4pm and I was walking across the park that goes behind my grandma's house with my discman in my left jacket pocket and a Richmond Superking cigarette in my right hand.
When I hear this song I'm right there, the smell of recently cut grass, cigarette smoke and exhaust fumes from the main road that runs parallel to the park, the sky was a dark grey, my face and hands were cold, the fluorescent light from the lampposts that ran along the path gave the world an eerie yellow tint and this song just made perfect sense to me in that exact moment
the memory is extremely visceral some 20ish years later
Love how tha album opens here wit tha narrator allowing himself to be abducted & passively slaughtered by his deranged gf/partner/lover, & ends in 'pink maggit' wit him kneeing her in tha throat & acknowledging dat he doesnt need her or her shit. Theres a definite story/narrative implied about transcending abusive love & taking back control of ones own life

I remember buying this album on release day and putting it on in the car. I didn't even drive back home, I just kept driving and let it play. Only stopped long enough to fill up with gas. One of the best memories.

I used to dislike this song as an opener for white pony, but it grew on me and is one of my favorite Deftones songs. and that little high d note that's apart of the chords at the end is rly good and I don't know how to explain why.
