"Having Maynard perform on the record wasn’t something that we planned on doing. We didn’t plan on having any guest on the record. He was just working on the arrangements, riff structures, time signatures, and things like that. I don’t know if you’re a big fan of Tool’s music, but they’re really mathematical. I’ve been to their rehearsal space, and there’s this big chart that just looks like calculus-the way they write songs, it’s just crazy. It was good to have someone else who has different ways of writing songs, ‘cause everyone has a different way of doing it. He came in and we started working on this one song in particular, and he just grabbed the microphone and started singing along to it, and my jaw just dropped. All of a sudden our band sounded like Tool; it was just crazy. Then, probably two months later, we went in to record the album, and I went in to record the vocals on it, and I just kept hearing his voice, this recurring melody with his voice coming over it. So I called him and asked him if he wanted to come down and sing on the record, and he had no problem with it. Once he came in, I gave him sort of what I wanted the song to be about, and he wrote a couple of ideas down, and the next day he came in with all the lyrics written all out with blank spaces where my lyrics were supposed to be. He’s very professional like that. He wants everything set perfectly, which is the complete opposite to the way that I write, so it was cool. And then I went in and did my vocals over it, and it just seemed that our voices blended together pretty good." - Chino Moreno, DeftonesWorld

You shouldn't dump someone if you don't have the same taste in music, if he doesn't mind you playing it but still isn't into it, that's enough. It's enough to feel comfortable playing the music that you like around him.
I used to get so high and hop on the freeway in the early morning hours when nobody wanted to party ( because it was probably a Wednesday morning lol) and drive for hours until the sun would come up from LA to IE to San Diego and back home. this song was like a spiritual high like no other. Every time I hear it I still get goosebumps.

@@calebashford1686 Oh yeah, about 3 months ago I finished their discography bro. My opinion on each album: Adrenaline (Was alright but they definitely made better albums after). ATF (Definitely a great album but not their best). White Pony (The magnum opus according to other fans but I don't agree. It's really good though). Self titled (Chaotic but still had good tracks. Not in my top three though). SNW (If Pink Cellphone and a few other tracks were removed it'd be one of their greatest to me). Diamond Eyes (Insanely good. Took me a few listens to enjoy it this much but it's truly amazing). KNY (The tracks are a bit too long for their own good but it's one of my favorite albums). Gore (Phantom Bride was outstanding but I didn't like this album very much). Ohms (Excuse my language but this is fucking amazing. I'd leave out Genesis because it felt too convoluted but the rest is perfect. I'd say that if White Pony is their magnum opus then Ohms is them perfecting their entire sound a second time). I do want to see where their next album takes things. A part of me hopes they release Eros or at least some tracks from it.

Oh yes girl u should've, my husband fell in love with this song, that's when I knew he was a keeper lol.
Oh wow
How somone couldn't dig that Song? Unbelievable!
That’s gay.
This still sounds fresh and virile like it drank from the fountain of youth.
it sounds like a improved version of black sabbath's iron man
I wish I knew more people who love Deftones as much as me, the first song I ever listened to by Deftones is diamond eyes ^_^
Loved them from beginning with Adrenaline!
@StephMarie Smith Queen of the Damned was also my first exposure to Deftones. I was also around 12 or 13. They became a lifelong band for me and definitely still my favorite. I'm so sad their European tour was cancelled this year
I listen to that album nearly every day, it's pure art. Love how Deftones make metal their own and bring it into the current era

Diamond Eyes is one of their greats! I also loved Hole in the Earth. They will forever be great. Been a fan since the '90s.
this song is a masterpiece and quite possibly the BEST Deftones song
Chino and Maynard.... get Patton in the mix, and just let god take me
If that happened. Life would reach its peak and it's all downhill.
Check kool aid party from chino moreno ft mike patton...
@@TheGracrys chino isnt in that song
@@Stopdeletingmycomments96 True, sorry, i expected more collaboration from chino, at the end, team sleep is its other band, well, i think i will have to keep still for that collab tho...
Bit of Serj and we’re perfect
Officially loving it for over 20 years. One of the most amazing records ever. It's timeless.
Found this yesterday and when I heard Tool's singer in there I felt like I was in heaven
Both voices fit perfect
2022 Im finally digging into Deftones and Im loving them
Is this something BARF
Love this! Hold on to your seat..it only gets better from here. The whole album is killer❤
I’m a new Deftones fan. (So far I’ve only made it to the White Pony album). And I’ve got to say, this song is just so wavy. The atmosphere is just so eerie and sensual. Perfect for what the song is talking about.
@@calebashford1686 Oh yeah, about 3 months ago I finished their discography bro. My opinion on each album:
Adrenaline (Was alright but they definitely made better albums after).
@@lrn5152 I'm entirely 100 percent in agreement with you. Wow. Basically spoke for me. No discrepancies
@@lrn5152 and I've been a fan for over a decade.
@@calebashford1686 Glad you thought so. I wish I had known about them sooner but on the bright side *at least* I got into Deftones anyways.
@@lrn5152 indeed. My brother and I stumbled upon them with dumb luck from a pothead friend 😆 I'm just now getting into Alice In Chains, so don't feel bad. Never realized their greatness until sitting through their Dirt Album. I mean, I knew they were great but the "grunge" label steered me away. Absolutely wrong on so many levels. Much more than just that label. Love falling in love with a new band for the first time. Great feeling
Can’t believe that it’s been 20 years!
I can't believe I just found out about this song in last week.
me like 6 hours ago ...
I used to listen to this song right after I got my fent pony and it was take off from there. This song hits so perfectly. And now that I’m listening to it sober it has a whole new meaning.
What's a fent pony

Easily two of the best voices recorded together, ever. Chino and Maynard are made for eachother vocally.
👍
FACTS Chino is so airy and light vocally and Maynard is so heavy and dark. I love it.
They make my lady bits tingly
Halford & Dickinson

I'd drive across state lines to see that holyshit please.
Its funny I can't remember last week, but I can remember when I first heard this song like it was yesterday. Riding as a passenger at night, doing donuts in our snowy mountains. RIP Peter
I used to play this on repeat when playing Gran Turismo, good shit
Great game. I did the same on forza
Man i'm about to this to gt7
I did that to Mario Kart!
I Did it too
Hell yeah brother! Great times for sure!
This song with Chino and Maynard are pure gold 💗
So clutch to have two sickasskickass bands collaborate so eloquently. White pony is absolutely a classic
Maynard and chino go together like peanut butter and jelly
Studio yes. Live, no.
@@snakesaibot They havent done live together...or have they?
@@octo.lina69 not that I know of, no. But both Deftones and Tool were going to play in Ohio this year and I wanted to go for a chance of seeing passenger live. But Corona happened...
More like Peanut Butter and Chocolate.
Like cocaine and waffles!
This is one of my all time favorite albums

I'm honestly surprised I've never heard this song before. This song is pure bliss!

Spend alot of my teens listening to deftones. This song in particular always got me. Now post 2 Tours of Iraq and 2 tours of Afghanistan, its my go to feeling song.
High school. On ecstacy. In the passenger seat of a car. This blaring. A memory that will never leave me
Oh, the good times
Did the same lol
Oh mate
Lol. This made me chuckle.
Lol same shit brother
Ughhhhhh this does something to my body listening to this,,, hits all the right spots I suppose.
Well, it is about having sex in a car, so...
I've been listening to Deftones and Tool since high school (I'm 42 now) I can't get enough of this! This track is epic!
White Pony is still running strong
22 years later & this song is still perfection.
this will be the first song played in my car when i get it
My two favorites came together! Both of their voices are so sexy and can change in a second to something totally different. We call this talent!
Is this mop itself
Goosebumps from wrists to ankles….so amazing
❤️🔥🤘
the riff was so good I genuinely cried.
YES. DEFTONES FOR FUCKING EVER! I never get tired of their music. It hits somewhere deep in your soul. And brings out that part of your mind you didnt realize you had.
Such a fantastic way of describing the very experience!
@@NOTneomatt Harmonic Convergence.
I swear this song is like a better version of black sabbath's song iron man
I call it the ethereal
Probably one of the greatest features we take for granted
One of the absolute best songs in history.
Chino and Maynard singing together is incredible. Then the guitar riffs from Stephen, the bass playing of Chi, Frank on synthezier & turntables and the powerful banging of the drums of Abe. Makes for one fantastic metal song.🖤🤘
Absolutely
It's so good. I just love the raw emotions conveyed in their singing. I can listen to this song on repeat for hours. Ughhhh
Never has a car ride sounded so dangerous yet orgasmic!
Few songs get replayed more than maybe 3 or 4 times with me, on at least two occasions I played this song the entire time i was either driving to work or out doing errands. Just have to hear it over
veracity ! it's true , the chase is addictive . making it last takes skill & style .
My absolute favorite song since I discovered it! Its so beautiful and impactful. A late night drive with the windows down with the cool wind this send nostalgia rushing through me as it is what I love to do :)
❤️🔥
When the white pony never slows down, you know its gonna be good. Deftones forever 🤘
This is how a deftones song must sound.
tbh it is a bit closer to Tool overall
Inferis nah, it’s really equal parts Deftones & Tool
DEFTONES AND JAMES MAYNARD KEENAN?!?! I can die now, lulled into the afterlife by this transcendent collaboration ❤.
Love this song! The melody of Maynard is just incredible! MAYNARD's MELODIES would be an incredible band name.
How about Maynardic Melody? Sound a lot better.
two decades later and still giving me goose bumps
2:09 beatiful maynard
Deftones will always hold a special place in my heart
I so miss these days, 2000 was a GREAT YEAR! Peace!

That chorus hook...the essence of excellence.
What a beautifully morbid connection we ALL Have
so, here i am remembering this song from my childhood. i've been looking for this song for so damn long - it's unbelievable that my childhood has been brang back to life through the lyrics of a song. one specific part of the song i remember so vividly, is 2:00 - 2:23 from when mother used to play it.
Lyrics:
Here I lay
Still and breathless
Just like always
Still, I want some more
Mirrors sideways
Who cares what's behind?
Just like always
Still your passenger
The chrome buttons buckle on leather surfaces
These and other lucky witnesses
Now to calm me
This time won't you please
Drive faster
Roll the windows down this
Cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees anything?
I'm your passenger
I'm your passenger
Drop these down
Then put them on me
Nice cool seats
There to cushion your knees
Now to calm me
Take me around again
Don't pull over
This time won't you please
Drive faster
Roll the windows down this
Cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees what tonight?
Roll these misty windows
Down to catch my breath and then
Go and go and go just
Drive me home and back again
Here I lay
Just like always
Don't let me
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go
Take me to the edge
Gods work 🙏🙏
Still a classic... Always loved how both voices became one symbiotic entity. Maynard's voice really put the hair on Deftone's chest. A+++
Their voices are incredible together.!
one of Deftones best songs ever made! Also a very underrated tune not very popularized, but it got the point across with the intense feelings this song creates. I listen to it when I want to feel strong and empowered again!
