With the Carolinas, you have to look beyond the metro area of the city that would potentially be awarded an expansion team. Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham are the largest metro areas, but there are also Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Greenville-Spartanburg, and Columbia that could provide a fan base. I think you would have to go with the city that provided the easiest access for the largest number of fans, and that would be Charlotte due to its more central location and interstate highway access. Raleigh is too far to the east, making for longer drives for more fans who want to attend games. With the problems the Rays are having with attendance because of the location of The Trop, fan access should be high on the list of considerations for a new team.

Demographics for baseball fan interest is more favorable to Austin, in my opinion, and perhaps that is his thinking, or perhaps it has to do with trends and current projected growth difference.
Texas is out neither is getting an expansion team, Rangers and Astros will claim any territorial rights. They both broadcast locally in San Antonio and Austin so there is no way MLB is getting into a beaf with two teams. They are still fighting with the Os after 10+ years for moving the Expos to DC.
Market dynamics are completely different. Tampa Bay is a retiree market with a huge percentage of their population being old people with no interest in sports. Look how successful baseball is in Atlanta, no reason it couldn't be the same in Charlotte or Raleigh.
Because the Rays are located in a dreadful location. Nothing around and no one wants to get there mid week during crazy traffic. Its really simple If they moved to Orlando they would be much better off.
Austin would be a sh*t market. Everyone that lives there is a transplant. Plus it's a sh*thole now. Crime and homelessness. Plus it's expensive AF. San Antonio on the other hand.. would be a great baseball city.
Texas is out for any expansion. Rangers and Houston would claim territorial rights to any part of San Antonio or Austin. Distance does not matter since both teams broadcast locally throughout Texas. I doubt MLB wants to get into yet another dispute with teams so basically any state there is already a team is going to be hard pressed.
I originally thought it would but after thinking about it I think MLB would work well and better in Raleigh. There just isn’t too much land available in the Charlotte area to build a ballpark. If looking at North Carolina, put the stadium in-between Winston and Greensboro off of I40. Land available, traffic handled, centrally located among the three largest state population centers.
Traffic on 40 between GSO and WS is already a collision away from being a demo derby on any given day, I also wouldn't want to leave my car unattended for hours anywhere near that area either.
Can’t build it in downtown Raleigh as there’s no land available and traffic already is a nightmare there can’t build it at the fairgrounds site because the ppl will revolt that they can’t go to the state fair and also being too close to Carter Finley stadium and pnc arena and traffic already is a nightmare when the hurricanes and nc state are playing on the same day. If they build it where they were going to put the mls stadium they don’t have to invest much for a battery and living place as it’s already there.
You could build at PNC Arena, Downtown South (a mile south of DTR), Dix Park (a mere walk across the street from DTR), or the cargill mill (partially in downtown)
I'd rather see Charlotte. Living in the Atlanta area, it'd be easier to see an away game there than in Raleigh, as you can get to the Charlotte area in four hours, but Raleigh is like 6 to 6 1/2 hours.
Raleigh would be better for the sport if they go into the Carolinas.... If you see the hurricanes and how they do and even the college teams, you know the Raleigh is a smaller city compared to the likes of LA and NYC and such, but the crowd is top tier..... As long as you build a decent team... And also make the tickets affordable because mostly all of the people in NC including me are working people and aren't the rich folk like in LA or NYC or Atlanta or anything else.

I would prefer Raleigh. Only hour away. Charlotte is 3 hours away from me
As a native of the state, i dont thats the right area there to do it, even tho born and raised in high point, nc.
If you look at your market listings and your area growth charts,Raleigh has a logo and it's not the old English R,it appears to be an animal face
Vegas Golden Knight are actually good (and defending champions). That why they sellout almost every game (Friday & Saturday night games always sellout due to the bars & restaurants near by)
It should be Charlotte and Nashville and create a southern division.
Neither is willing to commit public funds towards a stadium.
@@GeraldM_inNCNashville has committed to private funds. Latest update: we went from $500 million to 1.2 billion in funds in support for MLB in Nashville. Raleigh can handle it.
relocation or expansion: charlotte, montreal, nashville, orlando, portland, raleigh and salt lake city are all getting teams
The mayors of Charlotte, Nashville and Montreal are all pledged
to no public funds going towards a MLB stadium.
No they are not
@@johnmarshall4399 Nashville, Portland and salt lake city are getting teams
Raleigh Raiders I like it
Micheal Jordan has the $$$
I think Raleigh would be nice but Charlotte has more highways and it’s like putting a USFL team in the state of NY but in Buffalo
It’s just a second rate city and doesn’t have the name to it.
As much as I don't care for Raleigh, the numbers benefit it more than CLT, plus CLT doesn't really have room anywhere near downtown to build a stadium, but Raleigh does
Tampa Bay Lightning sell out every game as well… then look at the Bucs and Rays and it will tell you that success in one major sports doesn’t necessarily means success in another.
Yes, but then go look at other baseball teams in the area… the bulls have some of the best attendance in the MiLB and NC State’s baseball games are sold out every game.
@@GoalHornGeeka basketball city sorry
@@johnmarshall4399 then how come the hurricanes manage to sell out most of the games
We need a rendering for it to be official.
Why do you hype Austin TX so much? I think San Antonio would be more likely to get a team.
Demographics for baseball fan interest is more favorable to Austin, in my opinion, and perhaps that is his thinking, or perhaps it has to do with trends and current projected growth difference.
@@willp.8120Down to earth Hispanics love baseball way more than woke millennial liberals. San Antonio makes far more sense than Austin
Austin is bigger and has a bigger need for a sports team AND a bigger local desire for an mlb team… come in bud think harder
Austin is the fastest growing city in the area
Texas is out neither is getting an expansion team, Rangers and Astros will claim any territorial rights. They both broadcast locally in San Antonio and Austin so there is no way MLB is getting into a beaf with two teams. They are still fighting with the Os after 10+ years for moving the Expos to DC.
Tampa also has good attendance in hockey. doesn't correlate to baseball
It would make more sense in Charlotte
I originally thought it would but after thinking about it I think MLB would work well and better in Raleigh. There just isn’t too much land available in the Charlotte area to build a ballpark. Raleigh-Durham has plenty. Let Raleigh have the MLB and NHL, and let Charlotte continue to be the NFL and NBA city.
@@rwall3450 There's plenty of area in Charlotte, what are you talking about? I'm from Charlotte and drive a lot around there. An underground parking lot would be great in Charlotte and that could be an issue, but still.
@@rwall3450 There's a lot of places in the Charlotte area to build a stadium. Even if you have to put it on the I-485 loop, there are areas of that freeway on the east/southeast side that have a lot of undeveloped land.
Definitely a welcome idea and city just throw the "Carolina" title on top of whatever team name it's gonna be and that's it. If we're gonna have a South division in the AL &N L. they each need 4 we don't need Portland or Utah in the West. Risky markets
Definitely not Portland, it's very dysfunctional and Oregon is actually losing population. Salt Lake City would work well.
Rangers and Houston will fight any expansion into Texas so I doubt MLB wants to fight with two teems.
most of these MLB games are played at night, so what's the point of opening the roof?
Would you rather be open to the black sky or look at the Costco ceiling? That’s I think why
I can see what there colorway jersey would be it would be the 919 jerseys with the baby blue and navy Jerseys with white pin stripes
Forget expansion without serious revenue sharing. Raleigh or Charlotte would be better off trying to get The Ray's to move there.
I begged Charlotte to try to lure Sternberg and was told the mayor will not authorize any public money going towards a MLB stadium.
Premier Lacrosse League next
If looking at North Carolina, put the stadium in-between Winston and Greensboro off of I40. Land available, traffic handled, centrally located among the three largest state population centers.
Traffic on 40 between GSO and WS is already a collision away from being a demo derby on any given day, I also wouldn't want to leave my car unattended for hours anywhere near that area either.
Put the Woke ass rays there !!!!
Lmaoo at thinking everyone should own a car 😂
Nope stop with Texas man! How many teams do you possibly need in one small state
Raleigh would be better than Tampa.
But where would they put a stadium Raleigh is packed with..... nothing but still it has no room for a stadium unless its in the middle of nowhere
Raleigh-Durham BULLS!!!!!!!!
Not the biggest city ….
There isn't a Major League team within a 4 hour drive in any direction. Raleigh's still growing while Charlotte's kinda plateaued for now.
11:50 ??? Not a fan of this take at all.
Move the Angels here
The Angels aren't leaving the LA metro.
Not a chance if NC gets a team it will be in Charlotte. This is a waste of time even discussing.
Raleigh is changing by the day. If the NHL is thriving there I’m sure the MLB will too.
Charlotte has a lot of competition with MLS, NFL, and the NBA
I'd rather see Charlotte. Living in the Atlanta area, it'd be easier to see an away game there than in Raleigh, as you can get to the Charlotte area in four hours, but Raleigh is like 6 to 6 1/2 hours.
Doesn't Charlotte already have a minor league team
@@rwall3450 Charlotte is still a much bigger market Probably the largest without baseball.
Why not Vancouver?
The Stadium Would Have To Build Near Pnc Arena And The NC STATE Football Stadium
Who cares. I only think about 2024 not 2025 and beyond but good try
call them the Carolina Cougars
I say Nashville and Portland are the first two cities to get an expansion team, sometime between 2028 and 2031. Maybe the Carolinas and Montreal between 2035 and 2050.
It's most likely Nashville and SLC! Salt Lake has owners with big pockets, and has a sight picked out. Raleigh didn't get that soccer stadium, so I don't see this happening.
The Portland group has mayoral support and Russel Wilson and are trying to get a land deal by the end of this year. Let’s go Portland!!!
Nashville is pledged to no public money going towards a MLB ßtadium.
Nashville won’t spend on yet another stadium with public financing
@@brothert-ncthat’s why we are using private funds. Not to mention Oracle is moving their world headquarters to Nashville which will only solidify how robust our economy is and how we are not one of the one trip pony cities like Raleigh etc.
Yea wasted tax dollars 💸 on a stadium. And water down mlb . There are too many teams . Hey you can have marlins or rays
Charlotte over Raleigh all day
F all this. I wouldn't even want MLB in my city. Baseball sucks.
What would they be called though? Raleigh _____ is a bad name, Im assuming theyll be the "Carolina Whatevers"
Raleigh Great
