Has to be one of the most delicious bass parts that has ever been. Certain inversions of chords put a certain note as the bass note, and it’s just magical . Some day somebody’s going to throw some two note chords in the bass on the chorus, right at “calling me up for favors” and “go back there tomorrow” , probably perfect fifth intervals, and I won’t survive it...
Few realize this is taken from an actual conversation Joni Mitchell had with record executive David Geffen who was moaning about how he was so tired of having to make or break the careers of people (he made Joni Mitchell's career and hundreds of others...). Apparently when she played him the song he was not too happy about it.
Great song and great performance ... I think maybe the country lead guitar licks were not quite the feel at times for this progressive song but otherwise really great.
Prefer to hear a C in the bass during “go back there tomorrow” in the chorus like Jaco did it. Missed that suspended feel. My 2 cents. This still is a nice version and the lead vocals are outstanding.
This song is NOT an easy song to sing…but here you have a fabulous version.
This is a great rendition
Wow, this is great stuff. Delicious playing by everybody and great singing. Wonderful version.

THAN HIS VERSION;--------WORST SCREW-UP OF JONI'S SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds absolutely fantastic! but do the backing ladies really have to look into the score?
