  • Our 5 top spots that we were able to explore in the spring/summer in the land of Rip Van Winkle (He woke up in the Catskills) There's a lot of hidden gems in the area but these are our favorites.
#1 Rail Explorers- Ride through the mountain side on an unused railroad track for a fun adventure
#2 Howe Caverns- an underground cave with a boat ride! Pretty unique and really awesome
#3 Olana Historic Site- One of the best views of the Hudson River Valley near the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. There's a lot of hiking trails and you can tour the estate built in 1872.
#4 Kaaterskill Falls- This is a big attraction in the area, but for good reason. It really is worth it. The hike can be a little aggressive with all the steps and up and down hill. I would not recommend a weekend here since it would be way too busy and hard to find parking. We went on a Tuesday and it was perfect. We sat and took in the falls for hours.
#5 Palenville Overlook hike- This is a hidden gem to the top of the mountain to the king and queen chairs overlooking the valley. Gorgeous views and worth the million bug bites that we got along the way- bring bug spray in the summer!
Bonus- North South Lake- A great fishing spot and you can camp there too. Lots of trails and great scenery
Favorite Food Spot- JJ's Smokehouse BBQ- The best BBQ we had in along time! The outside seating is really nice
