    Hi Tomasz, just a general comment to say your channel is fantastic. Just found it via shoutout from Small Loft Workshop as I’ve just bought a Rage5s.
    As I’ve gone through the back catalogue the router attachment was exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about and I was really impressed with the router fence.
    Honestly this channel is above a lot of content I regularly consume and deserves more visibility!

    That's crazy how thick it can cut . More then my giant 1250 100w CO2 machine. Maybe I could put that laser head on it ? lol

    Thank you for this video... it was so helpful while trying to assemble this puppy.... but now where can I find those test squares for engraving and cutting... I tried to cut 100%@100mm/min just got a line.. am using lightburn and atezr L2 36w with autofocus..(which I love)

    Tomasz. Just wondering if the focus point of the laser automatically changes on each pass through an object like 22mm pine. From watching your tests I presume it does not. Base ability: 8mm ply(8pl) 1 pass ((1x8pl) +/- 0). Pine test: 17 mm 2 passes ((2x8pl) +1mm) , 20mm 4 passes ((4x8pl) - 122mm) 25mm passes ((5xpl - 15mm) ?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Рік тому

      It can actually do that, just by changing the setting in Lightburn. However I didn't use that for the pine cutting test as I try to have same tests and conditions for all the lasers I test.

    Hi, I am waiting delivery of my L2 36w, similar to yours. I want to prepare a spoil board ready for delivery. I cannot find the outside measurements anywhere only the workspace area. Would you be so kind to measure the outside of the frame, width and length please so I can cut my board. Many thanks Allan

    We bought just about every option for this unit but the extension and hood....Were not very happy so far, one of the X rods were not mounted in its socket and would not fit even with the screw out of the socket, had to be hammered in. The unit was scratched up, when I contacted support they said...oh sorry. We paid $1600 for this unit and it seems to have software issues and it will not autofocus and tech support is useless....I really regret buying this unit.

      Hmm I must have been lucky with mine. Still works great. It's actually my main laser now. I'm guessing you have set up the autofocus in the software first?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  10 місяців тому

      @@whanner so are the wires correctly connected? If so and it's not moving maybe the shaft is not installed correctly and is blocking the motor movement. I would double check the assembly process again, step by step. Usually it's a silly mistake made during assembly.

    1) The cables in the x-axis are very very close to that sprocket/belt, there should really be a guard of some sort.
    2) They claim ability to cut through 30mm of wood in one pass, but you took four passes for 25mm ... seems to be they are maybe slightly exaggerating!
    3) Auto focus seems like a nice feature, but they also allow manual setting ... I wonder if this is due to the feature not working well with absorbent/reflective materials!
    4) I think it would have been better to have the x-axis slots on the inside edge rather on the top, to mitigate against dust ingress.
    Overall a well designed machine, at a relatively competitive price, but they do need to revise their claims!!
    Once again, thanks for a great video giving a great overview of this laser.
    P.S. I love your accent, sounds like you are talking about the Out-Of-Focus feature 🤣

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Рік тому

      1) that was my worry at first but after about 12h of this laser running constantly it's not a problem at all and the placement seems to be in a perfect place not stretching the wires too much and not being too slack so they would be in the way.
      2) They talk about basswood, all the makes when they talk about cutting wood capabilities its always basswood. I can imagine it would be possible with basswood. I use pine and that took 4 passes, if you used hard oak it would take more passes. Same with plywood. There is specially designed plywood for laser cutters.
      3) Autofocus works fine but I find it bit slow and it's faster for me to use the metal bar. Although I tend to use the autofocus as it's just cool to watch how it sets itself up and each time it's perfect. Whereas with the metal bar you may get slightly different results.
      Remember all the laser companies always give the "best scenario" capabilities same with any other manufacturer like car makers etc.
      One thing is the laser cross positioning, it limits the working area so it's a feature in my case I won't be using as I usually use 400x400mm plywood sheets.
      Other than that o think it's the best designed laser so far with all the belts, wires and even air hose hidden away. And in my dusty workshop that's a great solution.

      @@CasualDIY Some more good info, didn't realise they were talking about basswood, so they claim that depth of cut using one of the softest woods around ... would be far more meaningful if it was with regards plywood not a niche wood type!
      Crosshairs ... that was a bit I didn't catch properly and didn't have time to rewind to (was supposed to be away out already), agree with you, yes nice feature but not when it effectively removes so much of the work area (about 10% of the x-axis).
      It also looked like it had the kind of H-section linear guides instead of the cheaper round linear rail .. another plus for it.
      I do agree that it looks like one of the better designs of laser, but they should be at that price 👍
      Thanks for taking the time for a detailed reply, it's appreciated and also adds to the amount of information you've already given😀

      @@barry.w.christie I think there is a lot of miss understanding of what these type of lasers can do. I think a lot of people put diode lasers and CO lasers in the same bag and they are totally different machines. And I have to say the +30W modules I've had a chance to test are quite impressive to what they can do. In away they are becoming a much cheaper alternative to CO lasers and in a way cnc machines (in some projects that is). Bit of a spoiler 😅 I think I will be able to test a budget worktop cnc machine. I'm curious what a machine like rat can do and if it's worth getting 🤔

      @@CasualDIY My concern with CO2 laser has always been the issue with high voltages and if the enclosure is not properly earthed (grounded) or there is a break in the cable, it could be extremely dangerous (if not fatal) for the operator. That said, if one doesn't intend to cut clear acrylics, 36W should be plenty to do most of the laser engraving / cutting jobs.

    • @CasualDIY

      @@fabpx exactly, I think nowadays those powerful diode lasers are becoming more feasible for wide range of tasks and low price point of investment to get into a new business venture
