As outdated as a lot of people think this is, it sort of reminds me of Alex Ferguson’s club blazer rule at Man United, where everyone would get off the team bus before matches wearing the same club blazers. It enforces the idea that no player is bigger than the team, and I think that’s a good thing
It's time to end Steinbrenner's absurd ban on beards. Not only is it jarring to see guys like Cole, Damon and Gallo without their trademark beard, but it's questionable for a wealthy white man to tell his minority players what they can and can't look like. If I'm an AA or Hispanic player, I'd challenge the ban in court. Nobody in the private sector should have the authority to prevent grown men from having facial hair. Besides, the majority of ball players look far better with beards. It was downright frightening to see Odor and McCann without one....
I totally understand it for Military and First Responders, for the fire volunteer department while i was still respirator certified i couldn’t have any facial hair that affected a seal so you weren’t allowed to have more than a mustache, when i do a test yearly for the EMS respirator a beard doesn’t interfere so it’s allowed but not for the test so i shave the beard yearly but keep it neat year round, if they ordered me to relive the beard I’d go down to a mustache or clean shaven again, if my job asked me to be clean shaven i would unless like you said in the video there’s a ban on forcing people to shave, however i don’t see why ballplayers & athletes these days need to be clean shaven but should not look disheveled and sloppy, as for long hair depends how long some NFL players hair is way too long if the name on your uniform is covered or some can grab your hair to make a tackle it’s way too long 😂
I hope that they always keep the policy. It's about discipline, and team standards that apply to everyone. Crazy hair, and beards make it about the individual, and their ego. The military does it for good reason, and it's effective.
It's an idiotic and outdated policy. You can allow facial hair below the lip while also requiring it still to be well groomed. Beard trimmers exist. Beards don't mean looking like ZZ Top
I'm stuck in the middle being a navy guy and wanting a beard while serving. However, the clean look while they are playing on the big stage makes them look more professional and uniform.
A man is meant to grow a beard. God made us this way. Why do so many people think it is okay to dictate to men that they have to shave what God has given them?
It’s also much more distinct. I see so many bearded guys who just look the same. It’s nice to actually see people’s faces for once, it’s more recognizable, that’s what the Yankees would want.

I'd be fine with getting rid of the hair policy. But I hated giving out the 0 to Ottovino. I have no problem with other teams doing it, but it conflicts with the brand. I think the hair policy is outdated and a change would no longer conflict with the brand.
As a Yankee fan and a guy who hates to shave regularly, I must say any player who refuses to play for the Yankees due to their facial hair policy is crazy. The Yankees are always in the hunt for a ring. The ring should be the goal. Johnny Demon shaved and now he has a ring with the Yankees and Boston. The Yankees are about tradition and thus they should keep the facial hair rule.
Why should people care that people look professional when they're gonna get dirty on the field in the first place its sports not a fucking 9-5 powerpoint presentation no one except weirdos care bout looking professional in sports
The Yankees really do have an elitist complex about them, "we look high class and if you don't want to look exactly like everyone else, we're going to treat you like crap"
Even though George Steinbrunner no longer owns the Yankees, his daughter Jennifer still enforces the clean shaven policy, as she believes is a great way to honor her father's legacy with the team.

Why does it seem so horrible for a team to have a rule like this if it's the owner choice to decide how he presents his product??? It's his team... Another thing... A player coming to the Yankees usually ; 1- knows the rule...especially as a FA, money talks...you can always grow that beard in the off season... 2- Usually buys in , with no issues really ever reported because they accept that it's part of being on the most famous team in Baseball and Sports in general... I've seen more players look prouder wearing the Pinstripes than looking embarrassed for cutting their or shaving their beards on The Yankees... And what's wrong with tradition anyway? Seems like everything these days has to change, usually for stupid reasons of a small few...most that never even really played or understood anything traditional... Sad...because they've infected Baseball with it.... I also loved when Cincinnati had the same policy and wore their uniforms the same, defining the word "uniform"

The Boston Red Sox and SF Giants do not wear numbers on their uniforms.... specifically, the home ones.
I totally understand it for Military and First Responders, for the fire volunteer department while i was still respirator certified i couldn’t have any facial
hair that affected a seal so you weren’t allowed to have more than a mustache, when i do a test yearly for the EMS respirator a beard doesn’t interfere so it’s allowed but not for the test so i shave the beard yearly but keep it neat year round, if they ordered me to relive the beard I’d go down to a mustache or clean shaven again, if my job asked me to be clean shaven i would unless like you said in the video there’s a ban on forcing people to shave, however i don’t see why ballplayers & athletes these days need to be clean shaven but should not look disheveled and sloppy, as for long hair depends how long some NFL players hair is way too long if the name on your uniform is covered or some can grab your hair to make a tackle it’s way too long 😂
I hope that they always keep the policy.
Sounds more like a cult. Didn’t bother the military none prior to the 1900’s.
I like the clean, self respect look. They are the New York Yankees, not the New York Transients.
R.I.P. Thurman Munson, my favorite pitcher passed from a similar accident. R.I.P. Roy “doc” Halladay
I'm stuck in the middle being a navy guy and wanting a beard while serving. However, the clean look while they are playing on the big stage makes them look more professional and uniform.
A man is meant to grow a beard. God made us this way. Why do so many people think it is okay to dictate to men that they have to shave what God has given them?
the lads do look good when clean cut, this is hard to dispute
It’s also much more distinct. I see so many bearded guys who just look the same. It’s nice to actually see people’s faces for once, it’s more recognizable, that’s what the Yankees would want.
@@Ryan-cb1ei Can you not grow a beard?
@@willp.8120 I can pull off some facial hair looks but I’ve never grown anything for longer than like 3-4 weeks. Don’t think it’d be nearly enough but that’s besides the point. I prefer clean shaven. I like to look distinct and show off my features.
Ralph Houk ( pronounced Howk ) , managed Mantle and Mariis on the 1961World Champion New York Yankees , Yankees catcher in early 50s and served in the United States Marine Corps during WW2 .

“It May limit the Yankees ability to sign new players”
As a rangers fan I can confirm it has NOT done that
Good video my guy. Hopefully your channel is on the rise!
Appreciate it!
It’s a team. This rule makes me want to like the Yankees. (I have a beard and long hair…but team comes first.)
That's why you are here and the Yankees there.
I think it’s a good thing, like no names on the back
F the Yankees and their rules and im from NY and I hope judge leaves
A policy is a policy. If you don't like the policy of the Yankees, then go somewhere else. It's like any other rule in baseball, you cannot argue with the umpire if he calls a strike a ball...you can shout your heart out until you collapse, the umpire won't budge. It's like that...
Hey man! Just giving you feedback since I see you have a small channel. Talking a lil faster, will probably get you a higher retention rate! Interesting topic, but it is quite slow. Hope that’s helpful
This is been going on since Moses wore short pants
Sopranos reference. Love it
You’ve earned a sub. Surprised you aren’t at 300k yet.

Islanders also have the rule under Lou Lamoriello :) Doesn't apply to playoffs though
I'd be fine with getting rid of the hair policy. But I hated giving out the 0 to Ottovino. I have no problem with other teams doing it, but it conflicts with the brand. I think the hair policy is outdated and a change would no longer conflict with the brand.
I hope they keep the rule.I’m not a yankee fan, but I respect that they have guidelines.
I mean, it's baseball, not a 9 to 5 job
@@randomstuff508 Agree but they are PROFESSIONAL players.
So that's why we never got a Yankee version of polamalu
All due to the owner's being stationed at Lockbourne AFB.
As a long life yankee fan I appreciate this policy ..they look like what they are professional baseball ⚾️ players
Super good material, you got a new subscriber today
Glad you liked it!
Even though George Steinbrunner no longer owns the Yankees, his daughter Jennifer still enforces the clean shaven policy, as she believes is a great way to honor her father's legacy with the team.
I like the Yankees clean cut look
Yankee fan since the 60's & I've given the hair topic very little thought! I root for HRs, not appearace! Having said that, the reasoning behind it is it brings a more cohesive & business-like mentality. I think most players who did the CUT find they look better afterwards! BTW Love Bader before& after!!!!!!
For the longest time, the only MLB franchises who had a facial hair ban were (1) The Giants, (2) The Yankees and (3) The Reds.
I don't see it changing cause no one will challenge it. Great video though.
I hate the Yankees but seeing people become soulless when they join the team is a baseball staple. I am actually here for that.
The players don’t have to sign the contract with the Yankees so if they don’t like the team’s policies just don’t play there.
This was an awesome video! Well done! 🤝🤝
Glad you liked it!
The Yankees should focus on players that are productive and not be concerned about trivial nitpicky nonsense like facial hair. Remember when the Red Sox won the World Series when they had Johnny Damon who had long hair and a beard? That team had lots of facial hair and they got the job done.
Ok, so it's nitpicky nonsense, but you use nitpicky nonsense like beards and long hair to make your point against it. Red Sox waited 85 years for a title. Yankees have 27
@@DankBirdGang52 it is the side making the nitpicky rules like an employer who is the one doing the nitpicking not the people on the receiving end expected to comply. I am not and never was a corporate sycophant.
Rougned Odor without a beard will never not be cursed
subscriber 328 here, absolutely well done. i hope you receive whatever it is you seek from producing youtube videos :)
Thank you! Means a lot
“Wooden stick swinging, high sock wearing…”. 😂
Any employer who enjoys micromanaging to the extent that they micromanage an employee's hair gives off serious creep vibes to me. It's bizarre and it sure is creepy. Gotta love when teams focus on what's important:
1. winning
2. player development
3. hair
I never knew about the no beard policy, this explains why all yankees players have always looked the same to me.
What a ridiculous policy. Are you running a baseball team or are you training marines?
Dumbest policy in sports. Beard and hair have nothing to do with on field production.
The thumbnail! I am wheezing! 😂😂😂😂
I’m not a Yankee fan at all but I personally applaud the no long Hair and no beards. Great rule.
“Mattingly! For the last time, get rid of those sideburns.”
It’s insane rule that needs to end. Players play better when they are comfortable.. mlb let’s players wear long and shorts pants.
No it doesn't NEED to end. Keep the tradition.
Great video.
(Ralph) Houk is pronounced, HOWk
Steinbrenner thought their lips felt better this way
I think it’s awesome. Don’t sign there if you got a problem
I wouldn't be cutting my beard hair. I'm also making my next music video
They need to cut out that damn Jewelry too
Well if it’s the owners policy and you are willing to accept a paycheck from him then you must adhere to his employment requirements. It’s not like a player doesn’t have a choice who he is willing to play for.
So if you get traded to the Yankees...
I support the no long hair/beard rule. It's part of the discipline required by the contract they sign. What's next, no uniform rules?
You aren't allowed to play baseball if you have a beard or long hair?
I kinda like the traditional way
Stand strong New York Yankees
Subbed. Keep it up man
Thank you! Appreciate the support
It's a rule ... Some people and organizations like to have them...
And your imply that Pinella was traded away by showing that card, which shows him actually traded to the Yankees in the 1973 card...He stayed, he did cut it...
Why does it seem so horrible for a team to have a rule like this if it's the owner choice to decide how he presents his product???
It's his team...
Another thing...
A player coming to the Yankees usually ;
1- knows the rule...especially as a FA, money talks...you can always grow that beard in the off season...
Really cool video. As a firefighter I can kinda relate, but we shave for a functional reason. It'd be cool to see the Yankees with beards.
You shave probably because you need to see if oxygen masks can fit. My dad was in the 911 system also
@@szlava3641 almost nailed it. The mask that we wear is just regular breathing air, oxygen is very flammable so not a great idea for fires. Still, that was pretty good. Most people don't know that.
Ah so this is where Mr Burns' joke came from
The Yankees aren’t the only team to do this. The islanders implemented it in 2019 when Lou Lamoriello became president of hockey ops. They get rid of the rule for the playoffs though
Nestor Cortez has a mustache
Good video
I find it odd your title is "Why Yankees don't have facial hair." And you showed multiple Yankees with facial hair.
They also don't wear names on their jerseys. They're the only team that never wears them in baseball.
The Boston Red Sox and SF Giants do not wear numbers on their uniforms.... specifically, the home ones. Every other team picked up the practice of names on the uniforms because the old American Football League of the 1960s started it (the pre-merger NFL had jerseys with only numbers on them; some with "TV numbers" on the shoulders in addition to the front and back ones).
@@rwboa22 exactly. The Yankees are the only team to NEVER do it though.
I think it show your dedication to the team over yourself . Kinda important in a team sport
SomeBody is gonna BUCK that trend and Still play for Yanks‼️whoever it is just gotta Be Great enough to say 🖕 Tradition‼️

@@cash9269 It gotta be a Super Great Young Player from Another Team that's not Re-signing with his Old Team Who EVERYBODY WANTS‼️It won't happen from a Drafted Player because he's gonna Comply just to make it to the Big Leagues‼️
The “No Beard” rule is ridiculous. Get rid of it. It’s the 21st Century
I know what the exception will be to end this stupid rule, Bryce Harper. You can’t tell me if the Yankees can get Harper vans he doesn’t want to shave the Yankees will pass on him.
The Cincinnati Reds were the last eam to ban all facial hair including mustaches. They dropped this policy many years ago.
Long sideburns mutton chops are a type of beard
Fuck that. Some traditions should last the test of time. That's what makes New York, well, New York. Let the day another team wins 28 World Series be the day the tradition ends. How about that?
Apparently they also have a Ban from winning A Ring lol
As a HUGE baseball fan, and a
Dodgers I will say, that the NY Yankees are classic. Their history, their classic look and rules about no hair on face, no last name on jerseys is what I admire and respect the most. I’m tired of seeing these hooligans with long beards, hair, ghetto chains and baggy uniforms kills the classic sport of baseball.
