I never liked this about the game, personally. I always found Persona to be a video game adaptation of the power of friendship trope (Igor even states as much whenever he greets a protagonist and tells you your explicit goal is to gain power from bonds), so to have this cast of characters borderline despise each other only to come together at the very end of the game when there's no other choice, it doesn't really feel earned and doesn't match the main theme of the series at all. It actually kind of frustrates me to see so many people like this aspect of the game's cast when it doesn't really fit.

I wouldn’t say they are forced to become friends, nor do they really despise each other. They aren’t really friends at the beginning, but I do think they naturally become friends by the end. It never felt forced to me.

For example, there's a lot of versions of the early Final Fantasy games, but it's pretty subjective which is best. Some have bonus dungeons, but others have redone music and art style that is very different, be it for better or worse. It's also hard to beat nostalgia for those who played the OG stuff, but newcomers won't have the same emotional baggage.

They new versions were always made to correct issues with vanilla, but P3Re has an anime and 3 games to take info from. There’s no need to make another game after spending 5 years on this and saying they believe it’s the best they can do. They’re going to work on P6 and other spin offs now. Apparently they might make DLC like the epilogue, but that doesn’t count as a “royal” version.
I've played P5R and P4G last year and I'm so glad that I get to play the best version of P3. This series has become one of the most impactful gaming experiences for me.
I finished Persona 5 last year, but I am only part way through Persona 4. I've decided that instead of trying to rush through P4, I'll just get back to it after playing Persona 3 Reload.
If there were less floors of Tartarus, we’d have to intentionally grind on the same floors more which would’ve less exciting than being much closer to the level you want to be just by going thru the tower
You could just not grind, and use strategy to win. The game is said to be easier than other iterations of 3. And there’s apparently other ways to increase levels in Tartarus.
My very first Persona game, oddly enough, was Persona Q for the 3DS. I loved the cast of both P3 and P4 and thought to play their original games. I bought P3FES on ebay and loved it to death, so to hear Reloaded stays faithful to the original had me on cloud nine.

I didn't have context to fully appreciate every call-back but I could still see and sympathise with the importance of each scene for the characters involved. Q1 and Q2 avoid most spoilers for the main games, giving just enough information to get players invested in the cast while leaving intriguing questions to incentivise (though not require) seeing the original stories in full afterward.
I'm assuming it'll be a launch or near launch title for the next Nintendo system. The switch can probably run the game already, but the next one may be able to play it on par with the current release, which is probably why they're waiting

So glad they modernized this game. P3 vanilla is the first Persona game I ever played. Never even heard of the series or Atlus before this game. I liked going back to P3P every now and then, but it was hard to do so with the quality-of-life upgrades with P4/P5.
It's definitive if you don't care about audio. The audio sounds so thin and weak compared to FES. The voice acting is fine but definitely not on the level of the OG. The new OST largely has no soul and lost all its sub bass and mid range frequency.
Love this game, but I'm going to get it on a sale. My gaming budget is tapped for the next little while with FF7Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2 coming up.
The music covers are definitely worse than the original..OG voice actors did a better job imo.. The intro cutscenes at the begining of the game were way better than what they did in reload. The background textures and graphics don't even look on par with P5. Will play day one but the OG/FES is still worth experiencing if you haven't.

I beat it but it was HARD. I know ppl have said it was easy for them but they also said they barely got attacked by a Megido. That thing spammed it for me
I can agree with Tartarus feeling like it drags, especially toward the end. Honestly, though - only based on what I can remember - I actually appreciated the feeling of “I just want to get there” as I’m running into strong foes and burning through resources knowing all the while that I would have to face what was waiting for me at the top.
God I just wish they'd do a dlc so I don't have to replay and fully rebuy 😭 Don't get me wrong. I will when they inevitably do that. But I really wish I didn't have to

Magician and Moon are fine. The only thing that needed changing is the Hermit link 8. It completely ruins the character who had been so fun up until that point, and it is never brought up again in the game. They probably changed the beach scene too to make it like portable and the anime, which was just funnier then the old one
I’m probably in the minority but I liked Tartarus in Persona 3. It felt like a struggle against the apathy syndrome that people suffer in the game. Like it was meant to make you give up. But you persevere and fight the apathy and continue anyway even when there seems to be no end in sight. I never like random generated stuff in games but in P3 it felt like it fit and every floor finished felt like a small achievement. Of course it wouldn’t have worked if the combat wasn’t some of the best in JRPGs.
That'd be one heck of a DLC, rewriting almost the entire game. also I guess the main menu would have Kotone submerged in pepto-bismol, or else a bath bomb.
I’m holding out hope that The Answer is going to be future DLC, though knowing Atlus we will probably just get an updated version of the game in about 2-3 years… maybe they can use that updated version as an excuse to port it to the Switch successor as I’m sure it will be available by then. For now though I’ll probably pick this up later for PS5 once it goes down in price. I love P3, it has my favorite characters in the series, but $70 for a remake that doesn’t have the FES content is a little much for me

So, P3 has been my favourite ever since I've played FES. I've finished it, and it became one of those games that touched me in such a way, that I didn't feel the need to go back to it, but in a good way. Spec Ops: The Line is another such title, and so is the 1st Life is Strange. But none has resonated with me the way P3 has. This Reloaded version seems to be amazing, even without the Answer and the FeMC! And, we can still hope that The Answer will be added as some DLC of sorts, and with some luck, even the FeMC as well! But... Does it still come with Denuvo? That alone is reason for me not to buy it. My hatred for that thing is even greater than my love for P3. As long as they keep Denuvo, I won't buy it. If they say they won't remove it... Well, there's always that friend who lives in a bay with a parrot on his shoulder.
So I’m excited for this game but I’m a little confused, how does the story of the game work with only one dungeon? In P5 and P4 you had the whole transition from one “palace” to the other with the story moving forward and having to beat the palace within a certain number of days. Does this game have like a timeframe on how many floors you should get done before a certain time and progress the story?
as much as i like P3, i already played and completed all prior versions. and since i just bought Grandblue fantasy Relink(the two games release is like a day apart) i'm going to wait for a sale.
I don’t get why getting the P3P port is considered controversial, it’s by far the definitive edition of the original P3. The female protagonist will most likely be sold in the inevitable “definitive” edition of Persona 3 Reload a couple years down the road, as well as “The Answer” content of P3 FES. I’ll double dip for that.
P3P is not the definitive edition it doesnt even have the epilogue content FES does. Having Kotone doesn't make it more definitive, especially when her entire concept is designed around replayability and NOT first time playthroughs. FES by default is the most definitive version of the game but who fucking cares, having a modernized version of P3 that's actually good should be celebrated.

Now this is a remake we needed. Its been since 2017 since we got last main persona game and i got tired of that game as the dungeons got way too hard later on. This game looks like a more chill version of 5 but Ganna have a more simpler dungeon design which is fine
"Metroid Prime Remaster is the best version of MP". "Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the best version of Pikmin 3". Skyward Sword HD is the best version of SS". Yet the original Wii pointer controls of those games were INFINITELY more precise, comfortable and overall better than the Switch alternatives. The "remastered" versions play worse than the originals. And yet you (and many reviewers) overlooked this and called them "best versions" when that is questionable at best. Now, I can't believe you when you say it again about another game. Maybe it is true. But sadly, I won't know it from you.
infinitely is stretching it. I had very little issue with the switch controls and in some capacity, liked them the same outside of the resetting aspect of it and in all those remasters, there's usually other factors that elevate them above the originals. not everyone is as sensitive to a change in controls either and that isn't a dig at you in any way. It's just what it is.
Wow, that was a nice honest review, different from IGN and others than I have seen so far. 2 things that bothers me, as I'm waiting my digital premium edition to unlock on steam, I just find this walking animation so stiff - 04:02 for 2024 standards. Maybe after playing resident evil 4 remake or even older titles like breath of the wild even metal gear 5. The other thing was (i know thats just me) I dont like the sword slashing the enemies, it feels so childish
I think the PS2 version's source code was lost. It is a bummer that it is missing the female protag and the answer. So the game is slow at the start? So classic Persona stuff. 5:09 Forbidden love. I don't think I saw Mitsuru in a Maid outfit before. So the PS5 version might not crash? Great. Akihiko's voice sounded off.
I'm not kidding when I say its basically 10 cutscenes of this dude telling you how he plans to date his teacher and then telling you how he failed. Nothing happens other than him telling you what happened. Its pretty boring.
The Japanese voice actor agrees. He apparently laughed a lot at the script. Some of the links you can tell were very much a joke, like the first aid part of the fortune link.
Tartarus is a pretty infamous Atlus dungeon, but the dungeons in SMT Nocturne aren't much better either. Only real difference is the mazes eventually end. Otherwise, they all look about the same, with long winding hallways, doors & dead ends, mixed with a ton of random encounters. Thankfully, modern Atlus is much more creative, making the grind a lot more bearable 😅
Yes because it seems actually well balanced and doesn't interrupt the gameplay every 5 seconds with mini-cutscenes and keeps dungeons simple and not Zelda wannabes.
@KrimsonKattYT I don't know why creative dungeons could be seen as Zelda wannabes. Zelda didn't invent dungeon design. And it's definitely a step up from procedurally generated hallways.
I love it when people hate on 5 for absolutely no reason. Yeah, it's got problems for sure, but why anyone would want a procedurally generated hallway over a meticulously designed dungeon specifically crafted around 1 idea or person is just crazy. P5 has some big misses, but the dungeons ain't one of them.

Recently played through all of p4 and most of 5 and absolutely fell in love with 4 the story and characters was amazing. 5 Felt the story was all over the place characters were hit or miss for me still good but not my cup of tea. I'm really hoping P3R lives up to the hype. Main thing being the story and characters, My friend told me that If I loved P4 story I'll love P3 even more can't wait to play for the first time ever to experience P3.

Amen to that. The fact they’d bend over backwards to fill in the missing blanks left by her absence shows that they had the time and resources to add her in, they just chose not to. I believe they even had an interview where they more or less confirmed it was an artistic choice to leave her out than any actual limitations. And that’s a pretty dumb excuse if you ask me. If you’re a P3 fan, you basically have to play the exact same game with small tweaks 3 different times just to see all the content. IE, FES, Portable, and now Reload. They could’ve fixed all of that by just putting everything into this game, but no. And even if they do add her in as DLC, that’s just gonna make it more painfully obvious they could’ve gotten right to begin with.
A game as big as Reload must've been in development long before P3P's remaster was released. It may be a course-correction but it almost certainly wasn't planned as such.

It bothers me that Persona got rid of the female character. P3P became my favorite mainly because I could finally play as a girl. That and P5 sexualizes teenage girls way too much for my liking. Especially as there was no real need to get rid of that half of the game. It feels like a subtraction unlike Royal, which felt like it only added to the game.
I just can't agree. It's an incomplete remake missing significant content, and it looks like they made it too much like Persona 5. Without a doubt I consider it the worst version of Persona 3 since the original release. I'd rather play Portable. Especially for a price of $70. For all the content missing from Reload, that price is a genuine scam.

Considering you werent meant to play as the FemC over Makoto for first time playthroughs doesnt really make it much of a loss outside of NG runs and while the Answer should be there, if it isnt rebalanced or reworked gameplay wise it can stay in the trash. Making the core experience of the base game was far more important than the other things. New gameplay, new social stuff with the boys, Strega fleshed out more, Tartarus less boring looking, quests are back for Elizabeth and other QOL of FES, and more things we don't even know.
Finally, someone who values the cast starting as not being too friendly. That part was pretty unique to P3 in comparison to the later games.

Oh they'll definitely do it in a Royal style rerelease, which I find hilarious for a remake of an existing game, but I'd still buy it up!

I’m holding out hope that The Answer is going to be future DLC, though knowing Atlus we will probably just get an updated version of the game in about 2-3 years… maybe they can use that updated version as an excuse to port it to the Switch successor as I’m sure it will be available by then. For now though I’ll probably pick this up later for PS5 once it goes down in price. I love P3, it has my favorite characters in the series, but $70 for a remake that doesn’t have the FES content is a little much for me

So, P3 has been my favourite ever since I've played FES. I've finished it, and it became one of those games that touched me in such a way, that I didn't feel the need to go back to it, but in a good way. Spec Ops: The Line is another such title, and so is the 1st Life is Strange.
But none has resonated with me the way P3 has.
This Reloaded version seems to be amazing, even without the Answer and the FeMC!
And, we can still hope that The Answer will be added as some DLC of sorts, and with some luck, even the FeMC as well!

So I’m excited for this game but I’m a little confused, how does the story of the game work with only one dungeon? In P5 and P4 you had the whole transition from one “palace” to the other with the story moving forward and having to beat the palace within a certain number of days. Does this game have like a timeframe on how many floors you should get done before a certain time and progress the story?

I don’t get why getting the P3P port is considered controversial, it’s by far the definitive edition of the original P3. The female protagonist will most likely be sold in the inevitable “definitive” edition of Persona 3 Reload a couple years down the road, as well as “The Answer” content of P3 FES. I’ll double dip for that.
I think because it had a more visual novel style instead of the usual rpg style
P3P is not the definitive edition it doesnt even have the epilogue content FES does. Having Kotone doesn't make it more definitive, especially when her entire concept is designed around replayability and NOT first time playthroughs. FES by default is the most definitive version of the game but who fucking cares, having a modernized version of P3 that's actually good should be celebrated.
p3p is definitely not the definitive edition of the original p3 lol. Fes objectively is and now reload.

Now this is a remake we needed. Its been since 2017 since we got last main persona game and i got tired of that game as the dungeons got way too hard later on. This game looks like a more chill version of 5 but Ganna have a more simpler dungeon design which is fine

Yet the original Wii pointer controls of those games were INFINITELY more precise, comfortable and overall better than the Switch alternatives. The "remastered" versions play worse than the originals. And yet you (and many reviewers) overlooked this and called them "best versions" when that is questionable at best.

I had very little issue with the switch controls and in some capacity, liked them the same outside of the resetting aspect of it and in all those remasters, there's usually other factors that elevate them above the originals.
not everyone is as sensitive to a change in controls either and that isn't a dig at you in any way. It's just what it is.

Wow, that was a nice honest review, different from IGN and others than I have seen so far. 2 things that bothers me, as I'm waiting my digital premium edition to unlock on steam, I just find this walking animation so stiff - 04:02 for 2024 standards. Maybe after playing resident evil 4 remake or even older titles like breath of the wild even metal gear 5. The other thing was (i know thats just me) I dont like the sword slashing the enemies, it feels so childish

The Japanese voice actor agrees. He apparently laughed a lot at the script. Some of the links you can tell were very much a joke, like the first aid part of the fortune link.

Tartarus is a pretty infamous Atlus dungeon, but the dungeons in SMT Nocturne aren't much better either.
Only real difference is the mazes eventually end. Otherwise, they all look about the same, with long winding hallways, doors & dead ends, mixed with a ton of random encounters.
Thankfully, modern Atlus is much more creative, making the grind a lot more bearable 😅

Yes because it seems actually well balanced and doesn't interrupt the gameplay every 5 seconds with mini-cutscenes and keeps dungeons simple and not Zelda wannabes.
@KrimsonKattYT I don't know why creative dungeons could be seen as Zelda wannabes. Zelda didn't invent dungeon design. And it's definitely a step up from procedurally generated hallways.
I love it when people hate on 5 for absolutely no reason. Yeah, it's got problems for sure, but why anyone would want a procedurally generated hallway over a meticulously designed dungeon specifically crafted around 1 idea or person is just crazy. P5 has some big misses, but the dungeons ain't one of them.
@willcoleman3330 5 is the most recent title. Just like with any other franchise the most recent games are the punching bag and the ones that came before are seen as perfect. It'll cycle back around when p6 comes out.

Recently played through all of p4 and most of 5 and absolutely fell in love with 4 the story and characters was amazing.
5 Felt the story was all over the place characters were hit or miss for me still good but not my cup of tea.
I'm really hoping P3R lives up to the hype. Main thing being the story and characters, My friend told me that If I loved P4 story

Amen to that. The fact they’d bend over backwards to fill in the missing blanks left by her absence shows that they had the time and resources to add her in, they just chose not to. I believe they even had an interview where they more or less confirmed it was an artistic choice to leave her out than any actual limitations. And that’s a pretty dumb excuse if you ask me. If you’re a P3 fan, you basically have to play the exact same game with small tweaks 3 different times just to see all the content. IE, FES, Portable, and now Reload. They could’ve fixed all of that by just putting everything into this game, but no. And even if they do add her in as DLC, that’s just gonna make it more painfully obvious they could’ve gotten right to begin with.
Guess even Atlus knew the remaster was a mistake and decided to make things right.
A game as big as Reload must've been in development long before P3P's remaster was released.
It may be a course-correction but it almost certainly wasn't planned as such.

It bothers me that Persona got rid of the female character. P3P became my favorite mainly because I could finally play as a girl. That and P5 sexualizes teenage girls way too much for my liking. Especially as there was no real need to get rid of that half of the game. It feels like a subtraction unlike Royal, which felt like it only added to the game.

I just can't agree. It's an incomplete remake missing significant content, and it looks like they made it too much like Persona 5. Without a doubt I consider it the worst version of Persona 3 since the original release. I'd rather play Portable. Especially for a price of $70. For all the content missing from Reload, that price is a genuine scam.

Considering you werent meant to play as the FemC over Makoto for first time playthroughs doesnt really make it much of a loss outside of NG runs and while the Answer should be there, if it isnt rebalanced or reworked gameplay wise it can stay in the trash. Making the core experience of the base game was far more important than the other things. New gameplay, new social stuff with the boys, Strega fleshed out more, Tartarus less boring looking, quests are back for Elizabeth and other QOL of FES, and more things we don't even know.
