Aigis does have the thing where her voice sounds less robotic over the course of the story. It's just way more "alexa" as opposed to the "beep boop" cadence of the original.
I think they tried to imitate the japanese voice actor form of speech, that sounded more like a emotionless person more than a robot (in both japanese versions FES and Reload), might it be because I really like the original voice and the change that happens in game, but I miss the english beep boop voice acting
@@NIN10DOXDyeah she was saying stuff about fully operational and what not. Towards the end-game, in battle; she starts saying stuff like "lets go!, ill give it my all, persona!!!" I definitely noticed the change i think dude just really loves the original which i understand haha
Honestly for me, it makes scenes like the awakening come across THAT much stronger in reload. Giving the fact for that scene she still sounds robotic just with human speech in the original, Reload's take on the scene makes her sound much more upset as she was in the movie. I feel that Reload's take on Aigis feels much more in line with the Japanese/Movie versions, As a person who has only Played Reload, I knew that the scene was going to be integral to how I felt about Aigis as a character, even knowing that she eventually becomes a lot more humanlike, But that scene ALONE made the character for me, which is why when I look back at the original version of it, I can't help but see the voice acting in that moment as a huge improvement for what it was. I like the original actor, and both provide good takes on the character, but with how that scene played in Reload, it makes me favor the new one on so many levels.
Something I feel that wasn't mentioned was how the dorm changes at the end of the game. I completely see and partially agree with how the bright colors do take away some of the edge from some scenes, but when it changes to the more washed out colors in January. I feel that change at the point in the story when all the characters are scared helps a lot with the environment and I'm a bit surprised that it wasn't addressed. But it was something I found neat, great video Silok!
I feel like January’s color scheme should’ve been the norm for most of the game and then darker and moodier for the month. I busted out laughing when I saw January for the first time, “oh shit so this is actually how P3 is supposed to be”
@@vietnguyen2293i feel like making it even darker and moodier than the washed out version makes less sense. The dorm is the hub of your found family/friends it should feel warm and inviting as its where you spent this year, they could've textured and lit it better but it being colorful exudes LIFE. When the color is washed out in January much like the citys overall it denotes the life of your home and your town leaving for the inevitable Fall of humanity and living with that sense of dread in all its simplicity works really well from an art design standpoint.
So on the dorm theme, the original verse is just a royalty free sample they got, while I believe the reload version has Lotus Juice (the rapper on mass destruction)
On Aigis's voice not sounding like a robot, she does still sound like a robot when you first meet her, it's just a lot more subtle in Reload. the comparison that came to my head when Aigis first showed up was Commander Data from TNG, and that was based on her using more robotic _language_ rather than robotic tone (which she still has to an extent, but it isn't as much as the original)
@@AJftwlol It would have been very interesting to like capture the VA's voice waves and have an actual AI speak before she develops, and then have it gradually bleed into her actual dialogue for a subtle progression of her speaking with emotion
His voice in reload frustrated me, because it’s the same voice actor that they used for the movies, but there he generally sounded pretty good, and in this game it’s very distracting
I don't know why, but I take surprisingly little issue with Koromaru's voice in this game. People always say it blatantly sounds like a human imitating a dog, but I honestly can't even tell.
Akihiko's old VA (Liam O'Brien) is Officer Kurosawa (the policeman you buy/sell gear at) in P3R. Makes the scene where nu!Akihiko introduces you to old!Akihiko really fucking funny.
By far really? I feel like just in terms of pure story and dialogue FES still is better biggest downgrade I can think of off rip is the Thanatos awakening Scene it’s so much worse in reload also FES is way more challenging
@@Gael-x999fes is way more challenging cuz you cant even use your party members. The ai in that game doesnt fail to annoy/anger. I love fes but on god i wont to back to it after reload, minor dialogue differences and some scene changes be damned. Now that they're adding the answer its a sealed deal
@@parsashirali8957 well it’s not strictly just cus of ai control it’s also cus of the tired system, theurgy not existing and a much less useful Fuuka that make it harder
I legit never thought he would cover a Persona game on the channel considering he mainly covers Nintendo stuff on his channel, but this is a pleasant surprise!
I always believed SilokHawk has a huge pallette of tastes of Video Games and genres despite the main Nintendo cover I mean he really fucking loves Team Fortress 2
Apparently they're going to sell the stuff they cut out as DLC (such as The Answer). Atlus lowkey has had one of the most anti-consumer DLC models in the past decade, ever since Shin Megami Tensei IV and Persona Q on 3DS and it's only getting worse so I wouldn't be surprised.
Source is a leaker and I don't really listen to leakers but apparently they got every detail about SMT V: Vengeance right before it was shown, so probably some validity.
Idk about the Answer but considering how fucking massive the female protagonist's story is? Yeah that's fair enough. I'd honestly be willing to rebuy the game again with her story included but I know for a fact I'm in the minority on that one
OMG, that happened to me a LOT on my first playthrough. I remember it happening to me once during late game and I legit said into my PS5 controller "Why didn't you tell me they were there yesterday, Elizabeth?! Are you with me or against me?!"
Junpei's new voice feels like a teenager that's trying to come up with funny voices for stories and jokes but comes off kinda cringe, like a teenager. It's pretty great.
FYI Tanaka had a voice in Dancing all Night and it seems to be the same actor in this game. Also Aigis being more robotic sounding at first was an addition to the original English dub. The Japanese dub always had her sounding more human. It's debatable whether it's better to have it more closely match the Japanese version though.
She did sound more robotic in Japanese but more in her speech manner rather than voice direction. She pretty much only spoke in Keigo, which is super formal speech
I'd say it makes a bit more sense with the hindsight that even previous generations of Shadow Weapons sounding very much not as robotic as the original English Aigis
@flaminginferno6641 Except that Labrys was definitely robotic sounding to start off. She definitely grew out out of it just like Aigis. So no, if they were going to retroactively change something, voice mannerisms wouldn’t be it. The longer an Anti-Shadow weapon is around, the more they start speaking naturally. It would be indicative of Unit #024 where she existed longer than Unit#31(Labrys) and she spoke more naturally with more emotion.
this was such a great video to watch, i’ve been watching you since i was in middle school or elementary although i can’t remember. what i’m trying to illustrate is that i was a kid who watched you for nintendo stuff. i’m going to graduate high school in a couple months and with how much i’ve grown, my tastes in media have expanded too, with persona 3 being one of my new favorite games after playing 3, 4, and 5 last year. so it was really cool seeing someone i already enjoy cover something so different than what they usually do. with that thing being something that is really special to me.
As someone who loves all versions of this game there are a few things that I do think are flaws, some things I am indifferent on in terms of removals, and some stuff that just doesn't bother me I feel the removal of the fatigue system was a bit of a iffy call. It was more convenient being able to blitz through a Tartarus block in a single night, but it did affect the time management significantly since it makes the tough decision between going to Tartarus or working on your stats less important. The new English cast I think was a solid improvement and some of the weirder choices they made make sense when you look at the Japanese version. Yukari is actually much nicer in Japanese than she was in the English localizations of prior versions, so Heather Gonzalez's portrayal of the character is much closer to Megumi Toyoguchi's than Michelle Ruff's was in the older versions. Aigis' voice is actually also more accurate in Reload, since Maaya Sakamoto's portrayal in the Japanese version is robotic in a different way than Karen Strassman's voice in the classic dub. Aigis speaks with more formal speech patterns before she becomes more human, always using honorifics and ending her sentences with "de arimasu" which makes her sound more formal and stiffer, before speaking more naturally like the human characters do. She never really spoke with the sort of stiffness that Strassman put in that slowly sounded more fluid until just becoming natural human speech. Dawn Bennet's portrayal is a lot closer to the original voice direction given to Sakamoto than Strassman. It seemed that the vocal direction was less to emulate the prior actors, but more to emulate the style of what the Japanese version was going for. The script also is similarly tweaked overall to be more Japanese accurate which is why a lot of lines from these characters are quite different in between the versions. Also btw Tanaka DID have a voice in Persona 4 Dancing All Night and its the same actor as in Reload. The lighting 100% is a bit of an issue in Reload and it isn't just in the dorm. I found the lighting during the Final Boss to be much brighter than it needed to be, with more of a bright green tone than the moody darker blues of the original. I hope some mods come out on PC to tweak the lighting further as in some cases it really can be less moody than the original I definitely agree on the music being a bit less punchy in some instances, although there is a bit of a reason for the vocal tracks. Shoji Meguro no longer works at Atlus, and Atsuhi Kitajoh was responsible for the music in Reload. Yumi Kawamura, the original vocalist was also replaced because she just physically can't sing as well as she could anymore as she is getting old. You could kind of hear her voice starting to go a bit in Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight. As for the dorm music, the original lyrics were literally just from the "Best Service Hallelujah" sample CD and pitched down. This isn't the only time a Persona project has used stock samples as Persona Trinity Soul used a sample from "Masterbits Climax 9 - RAPsody (Vocals II) (0000)" in the infamous song "Burning Men's Souls", but I can see why Atlus may have decided to replace the dorm music with new original lyrics since they didn't make the lyrics to the original themselves. Just wanted to provide a bit more information since I kinda agree with a some of your takes but also had some differences in opinion and context for some of the stuff that could help explain them.
@marcusgarvey630 I would've liked to do one eventually on all versions of the game, but I'm waiting a few years until I'm more experienced with stuff like public speaking and my Japanese skills considering I'm insane enough to play these games in multiple languages.
I think the problem with a lot of the new remixes is that the instruments and vocals blend too much with each other compared to the original songs. The new singer has a nice voice and works amazingly with the brand new tracks (also has better english pronunciation lol), but Yumi's voice had a lot more confidence and clarity, and also the production complemented her and let her voice breathe, while with the new ones it sounds like the vocals have trouble keeping up with the instrumentals. I will miss Yumi Kawamura, and I hope she's doing well with her finally leaving the Mass Destruction dungeon after 18 years. After singing the same songs over and over again, from remix albums to cash-grab games made by the Atlus farms, she deserves a rest.
This is such a well made comparison and critique of P3R. I hadn't played P3 before Reload came out so I was curious to know what the ups and downs were, you covered it very well.
The changes to knockdown and the hot spring escape scene are actually from Portable. Knockdown didn’t waste a turn there and the hot spring escape was converted to text boxes.
That SMT nocturne comment was spot on(I love the spanish calcium guy and being chased by Dante "From the devil may cry series" in a tunnel for 5 minutes)
Silo, what the actuall hell man?! I legit just put the game down after 100%ing it and ready to go on a 30 minute run, you upload a 30 minute video on the game. Completely blew my mind hahahaha Cant wait to hear this!
Whoa! I did not even realize that Silok was a Persona fan, this was a great change of pace for him. Agreed with most of his points, EXEPT for when he dissed on mass destruction, I don't understand how anyone could get tired of that song, It's perfection in my opinion. Also the new version of Kimi no Kioku kicked ass.
The funny thing is, your experience playing P3 on ps2 perfectly encapsulates how I felt about my Nocturne playthrough when I emulated it a few year sback. Yes I did have save states to rely on so it wasn't as bad but I definitely understand where you're coming from on that end.
Actually, you've probably gotten comments about this already, but Patrick Seitz was first cast as Tanaka in Persona 4 Dancing! He won't shut up when you buy things from the shop in that game. It seems ATLUS wanted to respect that casting decision in Reload for some reason.
It's really interesting watching this considering all of the points I disagree with stem from "Persona 5 was my first persona game ever" especially about the music (at least that's where I think it comes form). Great video as always, super interesting points!
Huh, wasn’t expecting you to cover this. I can’t watch much of this yet because I haven’t had the time to play reload, but I love the combat in FES. I love the tactics menu.
I feel like tanaka's voice in reload when's he's being a salesman, especially during his last day scene is actually very fitting. It's when he loses his composure that it doesn't seem to fit
Glad to hear that someone else was a little disappointed to find out that reload did not take any details from the movies. I get why they didn't do this I guess, but the movies really do just tell the story 10x better...
i agree, especially the final battle scene from the 4th movie. specifically when makoto and ryoji talked to each other for the last time, not only it hits so hard, it also makes nyx even more powerful cuz he’s so strong that the only reason why makoto managed to seal nyx is due to his relationship with ryoji (yeah, in the movies great seal is from ryoji instead of messiah’s own ability)
@@Gael-x999 nah I'd say it's even more easy, the crits boost and amp, the insane builds you can make if you know what you are doing and theurgys that are basically one shot moves make the game infinitely easier than p5r
An easy UA-cam short: -Cutscenes (better visual fidelity but the message changed, not as dark messaging) +Tartarus exploration +Character interactions (now with voice acting!) -Cut content to release as DLC +Graphics/UI +-Combat system (Theurgy is OP in some fights) +-XP system (rather than reserve XP they raise 2 characters up instantly) Overall net gain in fun, but there's a loss of speccing and thematic elements from the original P3/FES that diehard JRPG fans loved.
Oh but you have more points than these and did a comprehensive analysis for a great video. I just think someone looking to do a quick recap could focus on the above
Ken’s voice will always be my biggest problem in any English version of P3. Please just… shell out and hire a child, Atlus. I promise it’s not that difficult - It worked for Hey Arnold!
2:32 The Answer has been leaked to be coming as dlc Rip FeMC though :( 2:48 Also this isn't entirely true. Reload has all of the main campaign content that FES and Portable added. For example, Aigis social link, Tartarus guardians, and part time jobs. Outside of the non main campaign content, which is The Answer and FeMC this is a definitive remake of all the game versions of Persona 3 with additions of it's own like being able to spend time with your dormmates.
There's a FeMC mod for the Steam version in the works. It may not be able to be perfect, but what's been shown already looks promising. (I knew this would be a thing, given that there's a WIP P5R mod that turns _its own_ protagonist female...)
Not even talking about the Ken stuff, If they're going to keep the Shinji ending from P3P, for me FemC can get lost in the sands of time and never come back. Even then, FemC fans are ridiculously talented, so by the next year you're probably going to get a full FemC mod with animated cutscenes and even voicelines.
@@mortomultiverse8778 Idk if they'll keep the option to save Shinji, but it's completely optional if they do? I'm not sure how that's a dealbreaker And Atlus can just get rid of the Ken romance? They rewrote the pervy beach scene which I'm really happy about, so there's no reason they can't just get rid of the Ken romance too. No one who's asking for FeMC is asking for that to come back. There's so much more to the game than that
@@CheesyLizzy I said IF they keep it. If they remove the Shinji and Ken stuff, it still wouldn't be my prefered way to experience the story, but I wouldn't mind it at all, and I would even encourage its existence. And in my opinion, the Shinji stuff it is a huge dealbreaker, because for just maxing out his social link and wanting to learn more about his character, the reward that the game gives you is a far worse version of the story, where it spits on the themes of the game and the central piece of storytelling between Shinji, Akihiko and Ken just for the most spineless fanservice that I've seen the series do.
Damn. And I thought I had it hard playing P3P on my switch 😹 By the way, MC being limited to only swords was a feature in P3P, as well as having the bath scene being limited to a bunch of text prompts. That blew my mind when you showed footage from P3PS2 where you had to manually avoid the chicks
Fantastic video! I agree with a lot of the things you said but I would like to bring up one thing in regards to the dorm atmosphere: *Spoilers obviously* The dorm does get darker over time, it becomes way more obvious after you make your crucial decision to kill Ryoji. The game and whole atmosphere gets extremely bleak, bland, and almost monotone. I at first wasn't a fan of the whole colorful dorm thing, but after noticing the change through time, I appreciated it. Fantastic video though!
21:08 it's almost like she's an emo girl who's slightly embarrassed by how Junpei is talking to her n that scene. Some of the voicing complaints are definitely nitpicky; I don't mean to sound dramatic, but her original voice sounds like she is an office worker trying to scare a 7 year old. And on Junpei sounding embarrassing in certain scenes, that's, again, the point; he turned the lights off to tell a ghost story with a light on his face and is overly excited at the about how he performed it, of course it's going to be embarrassing, you'd be embarrassed if someone did that in real life too. All it was missing was Yukari scoffing every time he did that stuff and you've got a more realistic version. Tanaka was likely voiced that was coming from the perspective of being a teleshopping host and street scammer. It could have been more interesting if that voice was toned down as you got deeper into his social link, but the guy is a shady salesman, so I don't see how him cheering for customers is a bad voicing call considering the only reason he's talking to us is because he thinks he can train us to be an underling throughout most of the link. Where I agree is Ken, Koro and Yukari. The barking was fine on Koro, but any other dog sound was too human. Ken, while I did like that voice for the emotional parts, he did overall sound less like a kid trying to be an adult and more like an adult trying to be a kid; classic case of it blatantly being an adult woman. And Yukari was just boring, and her insults felt too direct as opposed to the original which was more belittling and sometimes kinda jokey. The new Yukari voice left me finding her dislikeable, but I think if the original had voiced it I might have been a bit more sold on it.
I kinda feel the opposite with Yukari's new va. Yukari being too biting in the og put me off her character until much later. Most of her scenes with Junpei made me question why they were friends to begin with, with the new va sounding less malicious which is what I think was the intent behind some of those scenes.
I completley disagree on Ken, he sounds more like a voice actor doing a kid role in the original compared to reload where he sounds like an actual kid. The scream was bad but other than that, an improvement from what I have seen of the original.
Yeah, I don’t know, bro. A lot of this video is very subjective. I feel like all of his nitpicks are driven off of nostalgia and what you expect the character to sound like in your own head when it wasn’t any voice acting
The funny thing about the koromaru thing is there is no original voice actor, they just used a generic wolf library of sounds… where in reload they had an actual voice actor… I think anytime a human try’s to play a dog it isn’t going to sound right, so honestly I’d blame the staff for that decision…
Reload is easily my favorite version of Persona 3, and while I definitely don't agree with some of your criticisms, this was still a really great watch. About the extra content, while the Female Protagonist is probably not happening, we should at least be getting The Answer as DLC for the game later down the line.
One thing they did change in royal that I believe was a huge issue were the gun attacks since you only got around 2-3 full clips per palace run in the original while in royal its 1 full clip per fight. Basically in the original I found guns useless once I got a gun skill on a persona while in royal guns do quite a bit of damage and isn't limited
Even tho they don’t have many spoken lines but commenting on Makoto/Protag voice the new one is amazing imo especially the persona awakening scream is just so goosebumps
Just one look at the shenanigans the OFFICIAL MAKOTO YUKI VA gets up to with the OTHER OFFICIAL VAs and I can tell that they liked being their characters
This videos been in my car ride play list since it came out. I finally got time to play P3 Reload in the last couple weeks. I beat it yesterday, and wow. Probably a top 10 game for me. I loved your video! It taught me things to appreciate about the original, which I know nothing about.
For your complaints about the dorm, it is addressed, spoilers after a certain point in the game, everything goes gray scale. You might not be a fan of the implementation but the devs were aware of it, idk if its better or worse than the original butnI did appreciate that part when i got there in game, especially with the music change
I might be misremembering but IIRC in the OG Persona 3, you can also die from having 0 SP. So that might be why you're getting notifs when your SP is low.
The reaction you had for Tanaka’s voice was the same reaction I had for Chidori’s original voice. She sounded like an old lady, not a goth teenager, lol. The new voice is SO much better. You can tell her droning is mostly a front. When she actually has to show emotions, her true voice shows up. It gave her depth the OG voice just could not sell me.
Hey Silo, are you aware that the most famous Atlus leaker Midori (she has a track record of never being wrong) confirmed The Answer will be added via DLC? I think its kinda scummy but that would make it so all the content of persona 3 and its versions will be avaliable on modern stores (FeMC route via P3P, the answer via P3R)
i have only played p3 reload, and ive watched friends play a bit of portable. overall really good review of what was better/worse, and the thing about the sad theme bothered me throughout the whole game and im glad other people noticed. however i must say if you really prefer the old iwatodai dorm theme, that is 100% nostalgia blindness. as i was watching a friend play portable before reload came out I heard the theme and legit started laughing because of how bad and difficult to understand it was
Well to be fair when he said he preferred the old dorm room theme, I’m 99% sure he’s mainly talking about the instrumental. It did certainly lose the punchy feeling in reload as he talked about
Disagree with Chidori, definitely feel like her new direction fit her character more than the old one did. Aigis' voice is pretty subtle, Karen Strassman just kinda sold the robotic voice more.
Okay so I hear you and I certainly would never want to boil SMT games down to just their difficulty when they’ve got so much going for them. But whenever someone says “x game isn’t actually hard.” It sounds like me who enjoys burning my sinuses out with spicy foods telling someone their hot sauce isn’t that spicy. Like it’s hard to take it seriously when someone says that when I’ve heard the same thing from dark souls fans of all people about their games. Difficulty doesn’t mean bad and games can feel a lot less punishing as you get used to the mechanics.
Raidou 1's devil mode is the hardest in the series. Next is the og strange journey on DS, it had a brutal difficulty spike right at the final boss, with no good spot to close the level gap. The Persona series are all easy to beat even at the hardest difficulty.
@THENikNak saying, "smt fans look a a guillotine and think it's fun" is a stereotype that makes it seem like fans of the series only care about difficulty, which is not true. that was my issue with the joke.
@@THENikNak I understand what you're saying, and I've never even played an SMT game, but as someone who has played and beaten all the Dark Souls games, Bloodbourne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, to an extent I agree that the games aren't that hard. Yes they are challenging and yes they are incredibly intimidating coming into them for the first time. But when you learn how they work you realize their reputation is incredibly overblown. They aren't anywhere Mario Kaizo level difficulty like some people like to make them out to be. I used to hate them because I thought they were just stupid bullshit games when I had barely tried Dark Souls 3 one time. The only one I would say really fits the "bullshit" bill the most is Dark Souls 2: Scholars of the First Sin. Specifically that version of DS2.
I doubt you'll read this but, concerning P1's PSP soundtrack being underwhelming, there is a mod now out there that switches EVERY songs to the original so you can play the PSP version with the PS1 soundtrack. Strongly recommend it if you want a more atmospheric experience. The Answer is already confirmed to be coming which is neat, I just hope it will be better than the original cuz the original...needed a lot of help dear god did it need help...
Now that you mention it, I actually didn’t take it for consideration that there’s a lot of voice acting compared to the other games in the social links. I can actually really appreciate that the dev team and voice actors did all that
Im coming to this video after playing reload + the answer dlc, ive never played the original, and only a few hours of portable. This is a great video. You can really tell the effort that was put into it. To the point I might play the original release lol. And you make a lot of great points as well! Honestly, its a little jarring hearing the original version of certain songs, and the voice acting, and i do think that reload is a better version for newcomers. Great video!
I’m not done this game and I’m more or less listening, but for Chidori I REALLY like her performance in Reload. I think it was good in base 3 too, but it’s how her lines sound so “different” like you said at times. When she’s talking casually, she almost speaks as she is breathing out. A lot of voice directing does this when a character either is not themselves like being possessed, or broken and can’t even muster energy to cry or scream. It’s detached and very off putting and that’s her goal. Her view on life and making others want to avoid lines up with that SO well. And then we see during her Death and some hospital scenes, she is breathing in and out a lot as she begins to feel emotions she wanted to suppress. Most normal characters you don’t notice it, but when a character like Chidori dies, it’s very noticeable due to her default speaking. And it makes people feel sad that she is so scared and so determined when they hear it, and even worse when it’s not even during a fit of emotions like when she’s dying. She speaks her words stalwartly rather then words falling out of her mouth with each exhale
I've never played a persona game before, but I had flirted with the soundtrack and story, but I went and got Reload and god damn it's fun as hell Having now finished P3R I'm now completly hooked to persona and got P5R, P4G and P3P lol. The lack of voice acting in the previous games took me by suprise, I hope P6 voice acts even more.
I really enjoy this video because of how you analysed the atmosphere and sound design, which is one of the most important things in the game. You compared tracks to their originals, and voice actors to their originals. Most people would dismiss the changes to iwatodai dorm as being an upgrade to make it more homey, but you acknowledge that something great has been lost with the moodiness gone. I noticed something - Persona 3 reload is a fantastic game but it wants to make good impressions all around. Everything that had a dual nature before has been singalised. Yukari's original voice actor could be soft and snappy, but now Yukari's new actor only performs as her softer self, because that's the impression Atlus want us to have of the character. Aegis's voice actor originally did a robot mode, but now she doesn't, because Atlus want us to recognise her as a human robot. The Iwatodai dorm used to feel both very warm and very cold, but now it only feels warm, because Atlus want us to remember it as a home. It's like everything starts off in its "final state" instead of having a progression. The soundtrack used to be super punchy and now it's super soft. On one hand, this makes it waaaaaaaay easier to listen to. On the other hand, the punchiness has a lot of memorability. Like for example a lot of the battle music has better lyrics but worse music and percussion, and the remade versions don't feel as special as they could be. Some tracks, like the final boss music and ending theme, are just... worse. I DID notice that the male rapping in this game was a step above the original, but the female singing was way worse in terms of pronounciation. Like, the singer they got for the girl lyrics can't seem to talk english at all. You can hear it as early as the opening of the game. Some songs suffer more for this than others. The songs NEW to reload sound amazing, but the redone ones sound... bad. I don't mean to roast the game, I love it, but as an artist, artistic design is one of the most sacred things that I recognise gets lost in a remake. Whether that's audio design or character design or environmental design or acting. Lots of direction given with the original content is completely overlooked by the peopole working on the new thing. A remake is usually a "side project", so does not get the same attention as the game did when it released years ago. The NEW direction Reload got was to be a very sleek and smooth game with likable characters and warmth, and it absolutely pulls that off, but forgets about the original intentions in the process!
it feels very homeginized, like it was made for ppl who came into the persona fandom from p5, at least that's what I got from how they did the atmosphere and the design (UI, etc)
I think people hated Yukari bc of the voice direction in the original, cuz I don’t understand the amount of hate she had. Because Yukari is a kind person, and pretty mature. So I like the new voice for Yukari, fits her more tbh. Like this is the girl who shown to hate bullying, helps the protagonist, and the only person in beginning to tell that spying on the protagonist, and holding information is wrong, and actually feels bad- she’s always been sweet. There 2000 mean girl doesn’t really fit.
SPOILERS I disagree on the dorm lighting point, because the contrast in january is so much more drastic, it makes me genuinely hate the home base which I fell in love with over the course of my 60 hour playthrough, and that did so much for the mood of the game's conclusion that it makes up for everything else.
26:14 ok, I do NOT agree with that at all. I just started playing FES for the first time, but the difference between how Mitsuru sounds like is impressive, cause I hated Mitsuru up until November in Reload. I guess that might be considered good, since Yukari also has a beef with her like up until that point; however I would prefer Mitsuru actually being a more interesting character before that point, cause oh boy did the time it took made it really hard to give her a second chance. She just sounds more human in original, and she shows more personality as well. Like, the only moment prior to November in Reload that I thought she sounded great was literally in April, when she says "This isn't a game, Akihiko", and then she's back to flipping her hair like literally every time her portrait appears
To give some credit to the yukari VA, one thing they really tried to do in reload was make Yukari far less “bitchy.” From what I know She was one of the most hated characters in the original game. In reload they seem to really try to make her softer to avoid that. Make it less crappy personality and more painful past.
@@sasquachbug1300 I don't know a single person who hated OG Yukari. It's unsurprising you may have heard this before though since there is a growing trend in which Gen Z gamers fabricate information on forums to cope with getting inferior content in remakes.
Alejandro Saab the voice actor of Akihiko is super talented, pretty much is all out dedicated to voice acting and personally one of my personal favourite voice actors of all time.
Not only that, but she actually sounds more robotic in battle than the original.
In the ending she sounds WAY more human
It blew me away when the dorm and the entire city changed in january.

Aigis sounds more like an AI chat bot than a robot at first in Reload.
And I mean, considering that Cleverbot came out in 2008 and P3 is set in 2009…
They even recorded a double variant for every line in Tartarus to account for this, one more robotic, and one more human.
@@AJftwlol It would have been very interesting to like capture the VA's voice waves and have an actual AI speak before she develops, and then have it gradually bleed into her actual dialogue for a subtle progression of her speaking with emotion
Her robot mannerisms feel less forced in the new dub, because even in the japanese dub her voice never sounded as stilted as the OG english dub

Junpei's new voice feels like a teenager that's trying to come up with funny voices for stories and jokes but comes off kinda cringe, like a teenager. It's pretty great.
I do agree that they did make Junpei cringe in Reload
Im so glad you made a video on this game! Persona 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, so having you cover it is insane
this was such a great video to watch, i’ve been watching you since i was in middle school or elementary although i can’t remember. what i’m trying to illustrate is that i was a kid who watched you for nintendo stuff. i’m going to graduate high school in a couple months and with how much i’ve grown, my tastes in media have expanded too, with persona 3 being one of my new favorite games after playing 3, 4, and 5 last year. so it was really cool seeing someone i already enjoy cover something so different than what they usually do. with that thing being something that is really special to me.
As someone who loves all versions of this game there are a few things that I do think are flaws, some things I am indifferent on in terms of removals, and some stuff that just doesn't bother me
I feel the removal of the fatigue system was a bit of a iffy call.
I hope some mods come out on PC to tweak the lighting further as in some cases it really can be less moody than the original
I definitely agree on the music being a bit less punchy in some instances, although there is a bit of a reason for the vocal tracks.
At this point you might aswell do a video missing out on potential 💸
This is a fantastic comment, thanks for the additional context.
@marcusgarvey630 I would've liked to do one eventually on all versions of the game, but I'm waiting a few years until I'm more experienced with stuff like public speaking and my Japanese skills considering I'm insane enough to play these games in multiple languages.
I really enjoyed the original English take on the voice direction just cus it’s not a 1 to 1 copy of the Japanese version doesn’t make it worse
The dorm looks 1000 times better if you turn the ingame brightness down but then you can’t see anything in tartar sauce 😭

Rip FeMC though :(
2:48 Also this isn't entirely true.
Maybe FeMC will be a later DLC as well?
I'm not sure how that's a dealbreaker
And Atlus can just get rid of the Ken romance?

Tanaka's actually did have a voice in P4D, and it's the same voice actor
Fantastic video!
I agree with a lot of the things you said but I would like to bring up one thing in regards to the dorm atmosphere:
*Spoilers obviously*
The dorm does get darker over time, it becomes way more obvious after you make your crucial decision to kill Ryoji.
@@absollumthank you for saying this shes already mean enough
The ogtards already accepted the original as the "real" way to play the game.
They went in looking for things to nitpick
The funny thing about the koromaru thing is there is no original voice actor, they just used a generic wolf library of sounds… where in reload they had an actual voice actor… I think anytime a human try’s to play a dog it isn’t going to sound right, so honestly I’d blame the staff for that decision…
I also just beat it. Never played the original but I loved this version and the ending broke me so hard man
Should've gotten Bob Odenkirk to voice Tanaka lmao
Reload is easily my favorite version of Persona 3, and while I definitely don't agree with some of your criticisms, this was still a really great watch. About the extra content, while the Female Protagonist is probably not happening, we should at least be getting The Answer as DLC for the game later down the line.
One thing they did change in royal that I believe was a huge issue were the gun attacks since you only got around 2-3 full clips per palace run in the original while in royal its 1 full clip per fight. Basically in the original I found guns useless once I got a gun skill on a persona while in royal guns do quite a bit of damage and isn't limited
About that sir. They just announced the answer as DLC comming September!
Gotta love how Atlus immediately made a part of this video outdated not even a week after the upload, lmao.

For your complaints about the dorm, it is addressed, spoilers
after a certain point in the game, everything goes gray scale. You might not be a fan of the implementation but the devs were aware of it, idk if its better or worse than the original butnI did appreciate that part when i got there in game, especially with the music change
It’s laughably grey though they should have actually fixed the horrible lighting in the dorms simply adding a grey filter isn’t a good enough “fix”
I might be misremembering but IIRC in the OG Persona 3, you can also die from having 0 SP. So that might be why you're getting notifs when your SP is low.
That just makes skills like spirit drain be 10x more deadly, right?
The reaction you had for Tanaka’s voice was the same reaction I had for Chidori’s original voice. She sounded like an old lady, not a goth teenager, lol. The new voice is SO much better. You can tell her droning is mostly a front. When she actually has to show emotions, her true voice shows up. It gave her depth the OG voice just could not sell me.
The disrespect for Deep Breath Deep Breath is INSANE
Hey Silo, are you aware that the most famous Atlus leaker Midori (she has a track record of never being wrong) confirmed The Answer will be added via DLC?
I think its kinda scummy but that would make it so all the content of persona 3 and its versions will be avaliable on modern stores (FeMC route via P3P, the answer via P3R)
You predicted it right, the answer IS going to get remade for 30 dollars
i have only played p3 reload, and ive watched friends play a bit of portable. overall really good review of what was better/worse, and the thing about the sad theme bothered me throughout the whole game and im glad other people noticed. however i must say if you really prefer the old iwatodai dorm theme, that is 100% nostalgia blindness. as i was watching a friend play portable before reload came out I heard the theme and legit started laughing because of how bad and difficult to understand it was
Well to be fair when he said he preferred the old dorm room theme, I’m 99% sure he’s mainly talking about the instrumental. It did certainly lose the punchy feeling in reload as he talked about
Disagree with Chidori, definitely feel like her new direction fit her character more than the old one did. Aigis' voice is pretty subtle, Karen Strassman just kinda sold the robotic voice more.

i know the smt guillotine bit was a joke, but it still saddenes me to see smt reduced to unaccraute stereotype (nocturne is not hard at all lol)
Specifically that version of DS2.
yeah, calling FES's ai and the condition system bad was also kinda okayy dude
So basically the title is the same as life we're living everyday? Good to know
Life is better and worse than the original? The original what? Other life? What did you even mean?
I doubt you'll read this but, concerning P1's PSP soundtrack being underwhelming, there is a mod now out there that switches EVERY songs to the original so you can play the PSP version with the PS1 soundtrack. Strongly recommend it if you want a more atmospheric experience.
The Answer is already confirmed to be coming which is neat, I just hope it will be better than the original cuz the original...needed a lot of help dear god did it need help...
4:57 Time to WHAT?!
time to shit
I agree on you with the music not being as good as the original especially burn my dread and mass destruction.
tanaka had a voice in dancing all night already
I've never played a persona game before, but I had flirted with the soundtrack and story, but I went and got Reload and god damn it's fun as hell
Having now finished P3R I'm now completly hooked to persona and got P5R, P4G and P3P lol.
I must be the only one that actually like tanaka voice haha “hey kyiiid” “ba bye” 😂
Nah, I like the voice too.
I’m intrigued to see what the “Royale” version of Reload will change
I’d really like to see more persona from you
To give some credit to the yukari VA, one thing they really tried to do in reload was make Yukari far less “bitchy.” From what I know She was one of the most hated characters in the original game.
I didn't see this coming
wait, hold on, just to make sure, in the original P3, did you make sure to use the best of the tactics
Silok with the usual W take, great video was waiting for the day he released videos about the persona series.
But like, mostly better by a lot
Alejandro Saab the voice actor of Akihiko is super talented, pretty much is all out dedicated to voice acting and personally one of my personal favourite voice actors of all time.
My only experience with persona was Persona 5 strikers but yeah, I might pick the game up, when it comes to switch.
