I finally got around to installing this light strip after the ordeal of installing the power frunk and, like the power frunk, they've changed this LED kit since this video was made. The wiring now has the grounding ring on the end of the black wire coming from the white connector that connects to the LED strip, so you no longer have to cut the black wire as you've shown and can just attach to the ring to one of the bolts on the hood latch.
Yes. Thanks for sharing. I actually installed the new light strip last week and have an updated video in the works. I’ll get that out as soon as it’s through editing.
Imperfect Skeleton Tesla. Well done my guy. You are doing a great job. Well appreciated ,your videos have been great, simple and clear. We are having to change many parts for an expensive car.
Thank you. Very much appreciated. A lot of things should be standard (part of what makes them imperfect 😊) but until that happens, I guess we’ll do what we can.
I’ll have to check that again. I believe I tried that and the only time the button worked is if I was pressing it the first time after the car wakes up but not continuously. I’ll check again
The ring is supposed to be the earth/ground but for some reason, the emergency button doesn’t work when you wire it normally. I tested again with the ring between the latch and bracket as best as I could without taking things apart as suggested and it still didn’t work. So far, I’ve not seen any issues with the way I have it setup bypassing the ring.
my frunk light came with the ground wire with a magnet at the tip to connect to car metal. I guess they caught on to this issue and started shipping with the black cable to be able to attach to car.
Oh nice. That’s neat and helpful. I just posted an update video where I had to use one of the latch bolts to hold the black wire which can cause the latch to become unaligned if care is not taken. Glad they’re making improvements that prevents that. Thanks for the feedback.
Hmm, I'm pretty certain mine is missing the extra interface cable which is why i took one look at it and chucked it in the "cant be arsed bin". I'll have another look and contact Satonic if it's missing. I didn't want to get into chopping cables.
@@theimperfecttesla No it doesn't show that part but I'll figure it out. I still haven't done this but at least it's clear that I've got all the bits, just need to get around to it. What I don't like is that I think I need to cut the Tesla connector off and I'd rather interface to that with tails. One day when I'm bored I'll get to this one. It came free with the power frunk kit which was the main part I wanted. :)
The light does not turn off when the frunk is closed. It's a waste of electricity and so I left it disconnected. Going to add a switch to be able to mannually turn off the light.
You’re right. The light is powered by the emergency release button which is always on. I doubt it’s a significant draw though. I’ve not noticed any impact on battery in the time I’ve had this. I’ll see if I can find out if it shuts off when the car goes to sleep.
@@theimperfecttesla thx for video. I just installed the led light but same issue with drunk switch not working. I wanted to make the wire adjustment based on your instruction but just wanted to reconfirm if the led light will stay on all the time. Is this the case? Or will the light goes off when the light switch in frunk goes off?
@mfgjhy123 I tested this and no the light does not go off. Because it’s powered by the emergency release button which stays on, the led stays on too. Having said that, I have this installed for over a year now and no issues whatsoever. It’s a low powered item
Hey. Following up. I was doing something in the garage with the frunk open and I heard the car power down after a few minutes and the lights in the frunk went off. The emergency button light also went dim to green. So it looks like the lights do go off when the car sleeps.
@@theimperfecttesla I wonder if they put the connectors on wrong and the one that had the ring on it was supposed to go to the connector, and the one to the connector should have had the ring on it.
It doesn’t get used. I taped it off. I reached out to Satonic about this and they said they are coming out with a new version that fixes this problem. I don’t have a timing on that though.
Dope! Nice shots and installation. More light + more use = Happy Tesla family!
Thank you. I appreciate it

Thank you very much for the very clear installation and work around - I was worried I would have to buy a different LED strip from Hansshow
Thank you. Glad it helped.

Looks like that ring is the ground
I think so. The instructions could definitely use some improvement
The ring is the earth, it is fitted between the factory latch & the Satonic bracket. With that fitted the internal button works fine.
I’ll have to check that again. I believe I tried that and the only time the button worked is if I was pressing it the first time after the car wakes up but not continuously. I’ll check again
Can you explain it in more detail. I have mine installed and still not figur it out what is this ring.

@@theimperfecttesla I also agree that ring is not reliable after more testing.
@TheKKnut I’ll reach out to Satonic about that and see what they say.

Oh really? If it’s missing, I’d say reach out. They sent me a replacement when my original one broke.
@@theimperfecttesla I looked again, earlier model, but more effort.

Late reply. Was away on vacation. So you’re all good? Their video doesn’t show what happened with the wire with the ring either

@djtaylorutube no, do not cut the Tesla connector. I didn’t do that. I cut their wire instead. Watch how I did mine.
New sub here…great work really…I can’t wait til I get my 1st Tesla 🥳…keep up the awesome work & thanks for the opportunity…

What about that metal ground?
I taped it off to the side. May not hurt to attach it somewhere but I couldn’t find a good spot to attach it to.

Did you just try connecting that extra wire to the chassis without cutting the black wire?
Yes, I tried that and nothing worked for that button except the method I used.

Yes, that's what I think too. That's kinda how the auto frunk is wired.
Thank you!
You're welcome! Glad the video helped
What battery were you using I wonder if there would be enough power using the LI 16 volt battery
This is the LI 16 volt battery.
I also tested in the 12 volt previous battery and it was the same experience.
Where do i connect the metal ring connector go to?
