- This tutorial looks at how to quickly and easily do long division using Vedic Math.
Learn to calculate long division as quickly as a calculator, without needing the guesswork often assosiated with standard long division.
This video is the third of four videos looking at this ingenious method.

i am le learning my multiplication table and addition and subtraction table. i got an 80 percent on my six times table. since i have been watching you. i have a disability in math and i still graduated from college. thank you tecmath.
we are same! I have disability in math but I still try to learn it even tho it's reaaaaaaally hard since I really need this math for my strand
Techmath's videos are typically really great. Very informative and the tricks are usually quite easy to pick up. This video is the fist time I am not following as easily.. I guess it just takes practice and to do this in my head is gonna take a fair bit of practice. Thanks for the videos though fella, really appreciate it
Indeed. On this second equation especially, I found the way I was originally taught to do these in the 70s was way less complicated.
This method is FAR more complicated than standard long division. Way more things to remember to do.
ye but it's faster, you can't really use this method on all problems
Your videos are awesome
I enjoyed this and now want to know how it works, better get my thinking cap on.
Hello tecmath. I noticed that in your examples there was no common factor between the numerator and the denominator. Is this particular math trick only applicable after common factors have been eliminated? Perhaps a better way to phrase: is the trick best applied to a fraction only after factoring out common multiples? It might be helpful for viewers to understand that application of the trick is best performed after simplifying and maybe to consider alternatives when the quotient is an integer. For example, in Matthew Song's comment below, if s/he were to factor out 2, 2 and 3 from both 36 and 24408 the remaining problem would be 2034 divided by 3, which is more manageable as a starting point to decide whether this trick is the best approach (note - 3 is a multiple of 2034 and is also prime, so factoring further would solve the problem).
I've tried this method several times now, using your formula; X+(mp), but i find it's always close but no cigar. Using multipliers(M) such as 1 or 2 come real close or exact with the base number and decimals being off, but when i had 4 and 5 as my M it didn't work out, i ended up being 100 or so off. Not sure if this is my math or your equation but it seems to me like this would only work in some cases and never for exact numbers.
This video helps me
Not really
I know
I get it but its not remotely faster in any way.
Indeed. On this second equation especially, I found the way I was originally taught to do these in the 70s was way less complicated.
beautiful and easy
I can barely hear this guy. I have to turn the volume all the way up on my speakers to hear this guy.
+Angel Rogers u need to change ur speakers !
Angel Rogers u r so right man
Angel Rogers use captions
Nice trick . only practice is needed ..
If we practice enough , easy to crack ☺
ok so im trying to do 5852/38 and i get 4 (+2) / 5852. So i do 4 into 5 get 1 r 1 then 18 + (2 x 1) = (20 /4) = 5. Then 5 + (2 x 5) = (15 /4 ) = 3 r 3. Then remainder number is 32 + (2 x 3) is 38 which is the same as 38/1 so I add one to the 15(3) and get 154. Is this the correct way of doing it?
So how does it work with you divide by a number that rounds down to the nearest ten as opposed to rounding up? Example 8749 divided by 32
I would assume the multiplier would be a negative number... so you would multiply by -2 and subtract that from your number rather than add. Though neat, I still think it'd be faster for me to do regular long division than trying to remember all the steps here.
so the value stays the same when multiplying for the little 1 thats added cool
Whoa thats so tricky XD
This was soooooo helpful it took me to months until I actually got the hang of it
Once you get it it's so fast right?
Ok?
very good but iam unable to get answer can u provide the solution for 302542 / 34 by this method
Is it possible to use negative numbers? Example: 32/13567 (3/13567 (-2 multiplier)..?
Yes, it is; it's probably in the next vid.
this is soooo much easier !!!! thanks!
Thanks for ths
if the multiplier is greater than 1 do you only put the first number? so in this case you put 4 without 0
This trick is so complex!😩
wat about if th number ur dividing by is 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 or 90 wat is the maulty plyer
How to solve if divisor has 3 digits?
I'm looking for an easier way to do division than guesstimating how many times the denominator goes into the numerator (for problems with many digit numbers). I'm not sure this is it.
im also doing 4368/16 i cant get it to work. I round up to 20 so my divisor is 2 and multiplier is 4 correct? so i get 2/4368 (+4). 4 goes into 2 twice then the next number is 3 + (2x4) = 11 divided by 4 is 5 r 1.. Since the answer to this problem is 273. im already screwed. Can you please help :( :(
It kind of helps me too
You should do a video about adding subtracting negative numbers and dividing and ext like if you agree!!!!!:)
The most complicated part is when you just add a trick into your existing trick. 3:04, you just say what were going to do is add it up here. Is it because its a double digit number?
why when im doing 4974/36 its giving me a 137 R 32 but then when I used calculator its saying its 138 idk what I'm doing wrong! lol
Wish this method could teach us how to get decimal answers
does the numbers always round up
Sir, for upto 3 to 4 decimal places how to get those digits? As this is approximation for division like 8476/37 or 87325/76
Kindly do comment. Thanks.
answer for 8476/37 is 229 and reminder is 3
+Harish Rishi for 87325/76 answer is 1149 and reminder is 1
4:50 2nd equation
i like it
I did't get the part where you add a 1 to the last 1 digit in the numerator. Another 37? What?
Also, if you have the remainder of 15, is the full answer is 962 + 15/37?
Can you clarify?
400/256/1641/900/625. Ye number ka division ka lecture dalo na sir
How do I get decimal answers?
could u plz upload a small number one.
division:
Who looked out their window to see what that vehicle was doing outside of your house near the end of the video?
Does it only work on 2 digit numbers??????????
can you please explain 275/333
thanks
Am going to become Arthur Benjamin now
Hi Tecmath
How do you divide by numbers between 11-15?
For example, 2136 / 14?
Thanks
sir I cant understand do you have an easier way?
Same
This just made me confused more
I like your technique there's one number I am not getting the answer right :
5920/16
can u help
the answer is 370
you will get 362 answer 128 as reminder
and you know 128 is 8 times to 16
and hence you are required to add 362 + 8 to your answer... Finally your answer is 370..
Harish is correct but because your multiplier is +4 the numbers get large quite quickly and you are left with quite a large remainder. If you look at the two numbers you can easily halve them . 2960 /8 is an easier sum to do requiring a multiplier of just 2 that gives the same result. But why stop there? 1480/4 can be done without any multiplier just use single digit division. 740/2 is easily reduced to 370. There are so many ways to approach a problem with practice you will start to see different possibilities which make it both fun and easier to do. If you understand the process for division you can always fall back on the basic number crunching method if you cannot see a quick and easy playful approach to help you.
When I try to use this technique on 256 / 16, it doesn't seem to work.
Sure it does.
16 + 4 = 20 so mulitiplier is 4 and you're dividing by 2.
You get 14 r 32 which is 16 r 0.
Answer is therefore 16 no remainder.
wow voice is too low tone to hear... I max the volume but still hard to hear clearly at x1.5 mode.
말파장인 I can hear it perfectly fine
your copying angel rogers but i agree no beef
well 96502÷47 do it correct??????
Math is fun.
omg this was made on my d.o.b
content of each ur video is very veery nce but do a voice over or jst reupload
It going to be complicated for some kids.
35609/37 = 962.405
ur ans is 962.15 .....not sure ur method is not for decimal part ???
.15 is remainer ..
The voice needs to be clearer!
(I could not make out)
respec'
This is so easiest way
*uno reverse*
LOL. XD
2456834 / 21 please.
This trick does not work with 2724/25
division by number ending with 5 is not possible
Doing it alone first I got 175 R31 WAAAAAAAATTT
I don't get the concept
i dont get it
haha
What did he say
Huh?
quite possibly the most difficult to follow maths tutorial ever, not only the most difficult to hear .
i need help 34998÷57
the answer is 614
+CGamer I laugh so hard
we get answer 613 and 57 as reminder...
as per the rule reminder must not equal to or greater than 57...
so we subtract reminder from 57 (57-57)=0
whenever we minimized reminder, we have to add +1 to our old answer i.e. 613 +1 = 614
Finally your answer is 614 n reminder is O
+CGamer Correct
Kim Taeyeon it's easy the answer is 624
I can't understand what ure saying.
Low pitch voice.. hard to understand..
too weird sorry
Horrible for kids
your wrong it is 16,205
16.205,25
anyone from 2023..😭
I dont understand Ugh Im the dumbes5 person kn earth I wish I was like super intelligent :(
I'm sorry but I think long division is actually a simpler method.
(PLZ READ ALL OF THIS)PLZ MAKE YOUR VOICE MORE LIKE A LITTLE HIGH BECAUSE IT'S TO DEEP OR PUT THE THINS U ARE SAYIN ON THE VIDEO!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND U MAKE THE AUDIO QUALITY BETTER AND YOUR VOICE MUCH MORE UNDERSTANDING!!,PS.i am not mad i am just so frustrated all the videos doesn't make sense to me,i hate it when i don't understand something!(HOW CAN THIS BE EASY IF WE CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT U ARE EXPLAINING TO US)
Frankly this is not a trick for faster calculation
boring at lease sound like you love math but i have some questions
sad life
ridiculous
Everything is ok, but damned! do smth with your sound recording! its bloody impossible to listen to!
The sound is so mumbled. My students cannot understand him.
I hope the new version of this is better. ua-cam.com/video/X80zDVyDL_0/v-deo.html
Joking i dont get it all u do is talk i think u should make it easeyer for us to understand By Showing ur working Out can you ?!?!?!!?!??!!??!!?
He does. He talks out AND shows his work.
ok i wasnt concentrating my bad
DIDNT HELP AT ALL noob
The volume is too low and/or the British/Australian accent is way too heavy. What is a 'reminder'? Do you mean remainder, then say remainder. Your viewers would appreciate it. And this method is way too long compared to the normal proper way. There is no 'trick' or shortcut involved here.
