  • This tutorial looks at how to quickly and easily do long division using Vedic Math.
    Learn to calculate long division as quickly as a calculator, without needing the guesswork often assosiated with standard long division.
    This video is the third of four videos looking at this ingenious method.

    Techmath's videos are typically really great. Very informative and the tricks are usually quite easy to pick up. This video is the fist time I am not following as easily.. I guess it just takes practice and to do this in my head is gonna take a fair bit of practice. Thanks for the videos though fella, really appreciate it

      Indeed. On this second equation especially, I found the way I was originally taught to do these in the 70s was way less complicated.

    Hello tecmath. I noticed that in your examples there was no common factor between the numerator and the denominator. Is this particular math trick only applicable after common factors have been eliminated? Perhaps a better way to phrase: is the trick best applied to a fraction only after factoring out common multiples? It might be helpful for viewers to understand that application of the trick is best performed after simplifying and maybe to consider alternatives when the quotient is an integer. For example, in Matthew Song's comment below, if s/he were to factor out 2, 2 and 3 from both 36 and 24408 the remaining problem would be 2034 divided by 3, which is more manageable as a starting point to decide whether this trick is the best approach (note - 3 is a multiple of 2034 and is also prime, so factoring further would solve the problem).

    I've tried this method several times now, using your formula; X+(mp), but i find it's always close but no cigar. Using multipliers(M) such as 1 or 2 come real close or exact with the base number and decimals being off, but when i had 4 and 5 as my M it didn't work out, i ended up being 100 or so off. Not sure if this is my math or your equation but it seems to me like this would only work in some cases and never for exact numbers.

    ok so im trying to do 5852/38 and i get 4 (+2) / 5852. So i do 4 into 5 get 1 r 1 then 18 + (2 x 1) = (20 /4) = 5. Then 5 + (2 x 5) = (15 /4 ) = 3 r 3. Then remainder number is 32 + (2 x 3) is 38 which is the same as 38/1 so I add one to the 15(3) and get 154. Is this the correct way of doing it?

    So how does it work with you divide by a number that rounds down to the nearest ten as opposed to rounding up? Example 8749 divided by 32

    • @mydoggylives
      @mydoggylives 2 роки тому

      I would assume the multiplier would be a negative number... so you would multiply by -2 and subtract that from your number rather than add. Though neat, I still think it'd be faster for me to do regular long division than trying to remember all the steps here.

    im also doing 4368/16 i cant get it to work. I round up to 20 so my divisor is 2 and multiplier is 4 correct? so i get 2/4368 (+4). 4 goes into 2 twice then the next number is 3 + (2x4) = 11 divided by 4 is 5 r 1.. Since the answer to this problem is 273. im already screwed. Can you please help :( :(

      you will get 362 answer 128 as reminder
      and you know 128 is 8 times to 16
      and hence you are required to add 362 + 8 to your answer... Finally your answer is 370..

    • @sharonjuniorchess
      @sharonjuniorchess 4 роки тому

      Harish is correct but because your multiplier is +4 the numbers get large quite quickly and you are left with quite a large remainder. If you look at the two numbers you can easily halve them . 2960 /8 is an easier sum to do requiring a multiplier of just 2 that gives the same result. But why stop there? 1480/4 can be done without any multiplier just use single digit division. 740/2 is easily reduced to 370. There are so many ways to approach a problem with practice you will start to see different possibilities which make it both fun and easier to do. If you understand the process for division you can always fall back on the basic number crunching method if you cannot see a quick and easy playful approach to help you.

    • @turb0flat437
      @turb0flat437 10 років тому

      Sure it does.
      16 + 4 = 20 so mulitiplier is 4 and you're dividing by 2.
      You get 14 r 32 which is 16 r 0.
      Answer is therefore 16 no remainder.

      as per the rule reminder must not equal to or greater than 57...
      so we subtract reminder from 57 (57-57)=0
      whenever we minimized reminder, we have to add +1 to our old answer i.e. 613 +1 = 614
      Finally your answer is 614 n reminder is O

    The volume is too low and/or the British/Australian accent is way too heavy. What is a 'reminder'? Do you mean remainder, then say remainder. Your viewers would appreciate it. And this method is way too long compared to the normal proper way. There is no 'trick' or shortcut involved here.
