Thank you for this - love your videos. I do have 1 question - since "From-Now-On" is "dominant hand starts in front of non-dominant hand and moves forward", I always want to sign "Up-to-Now" as "dominant hand starts a bit behind non-dominatn hand and moves forward" - My thinking is that the non-dom hand is the "now" and the dom hand is showing the time. Is that an established version, or just a habit I need to break?
Becky! Your thought processes are excellent and you are paying attention to the real-life and/or representational nature of ASL. The sign you describe is actually a version of the sign NEAR and/or CLOSE as in "to be near to" or "to be getting closer to" something. That can apply to both time and spatial relationships. Hello. First off, I want to say that I really appreciate your videos! Question, is there a specific program on your computer that you use to scroll through your vocabulary that you are displaying? I want to do this same method for teaching my students.
Very similar signs but "not yet" tends to add a mouth shape (mouth morpheme) and also a double movement. There are some variances out there regarding not-yet / late so I encourage people to stay flexible and pay attention to the general tendencies rather than what any one Deaf person signed in any one situation.
