As a KISS fan for over 20 years, the first time I listened to Dynasty, I enjoyed it. I knew it was different, but very unique. I would say it still is a Top 10 KISS album for me.
I found KISS at 12 yrs old with the brand new release of Hotter Than Hell in 74 and became a Kiss fanatic, loved every album as they came out over the years. Then in 79 I was at a buddies house to hear the brand new Dynasty and as he dropped the needle on the record and I heard I was made for loving you, I felt the end of my love for KISS, it was done!!!
Except that song is still enjoyable to this day and does not sound dated compared to all the other disco laced rock songs that sound cringeworthy now. Dynasty gets a bad rap. It’s a hard rocking album. The 2000 man cover is killer and the 2 Ace songs are fantastic. The only really weak song is Charisma. It was a lot better than the Love Gun album.
Saw Kiss on their Dynasty tour. Pretty much the only thing I remember is a girl named Sheri on my shoulders most of the show and my neck being sore as hell the next day. I wasn't really into them by then, but saw them a few years earlier on their Destroyer tour.
Cmon, be real. Pete lost it big time within 6 years. He was a shadow of himself. Was it great in the beginning, 100%, I loved the original 4. But when you hear Peters playing around late 1978, there was no way the band would want him around . Even Ace voted him out. Eric Carr was a breath of fresh air. He was right for that time
OMG...recording Dynasty was a living nightmare. We made millions of dollars but it was hell.We actually had to do work. Can you believe it? I tell ya, the horrors I've seen. Woe is me. Please feel sotty for me and buy my...I mean our records.
P Stanley is the ultimate A-Hole in KISS so anything he says i take with a grain of salt it's no secret he's always hated and bashed Peter cause he didn't fall in line he even told Peter he would sue him for the cover of his book using the KISS makeup but he had no issues with Ace doing the same
None of us were there, but if I had to guess. Gene and Paul wanted "employees" not band members. Every member including the originals after their "reunion" has been nothing more than a hired gun. They were billed as four equal members and I'd guess that was never the case. Now in all fairness Gene and Paul started Kiss the other two auditioned, you don't audition for your own band. My problem with Paul Stanley is he never has anything nice to say about any former member or anyone who disagrees with him.
Paul had no ability to stop Ace from suing his makeup - he still has use of it even now - remember the Dunkin Donuts commercial? You KNOW Gene and Paul both hated that! LOL
Paul doesn't say one word about the "nightmare" of recording Dynasty. And he goes out of his way to avoid using the word "Disco" to describe "I Was Made For Loving You," which is the _first_ word the entire planet uses to describe that song!
My "nightmare" was putting the needle down on the turntable for the first time after buying this record and forcing myself to listen to every second till the end of both sides hoping there was gonna be some redeeming value to what I had just purchased and was looking forward to. No chance of that. THAT record absolutely made me dump my Kiss records out of my growing collection of albums, take the posters off the wall, and never give two shits about them ever again. Had been building for a while as I had found and discovered SO much other music that was light years beyond the department store with a soundtrack that was and STILL is Kiss.
At that time Paul and Gene wanted to have radio hits, that's why Kiss had changed directions. Dynasty isnt too bad but Unmasked was horrible. As to why Peter didnt play on Dynasty, i heard it was because he was in a car accident and his hands were injured. I think during the recording of unmasked, Peter was no longer in the band, it just wasn't made public yet. Paul and Gene took complete control of kiss and gave Ace and Peter very little say. I can understand why they did this, Ace and Peter were consumed by drug use. But Gene and Paul took the band in the wrong direction. Kiss became cartoon characters.
And because Kiss had gotten too commercial with the solo albums, movie, merch, and now a disco song and they were starting to be featured in the teen mags. Their original audience was teen boys who only liked anti-authority hard rock. It was also a turn-off that Kiss members had THE ABILITY to do these other types of music; blue-collar fans like to think that AC/DC don't even have the ability, much less the desire, to perform other types of music. Those fans want to drag their bands down to their level. Also, there's a natural 3-year music artist turnover, since high school is three years, so a challenge for any band is to overcome it. Kiss gained new fans from 16 Magazine with Dynasty and Unmasked, but there weren't enough of them to make Unmasked go better than gold, and those fans got scared off by The Elder. So only the die-hards got into Creatures, then a third new generation got into the non-makeup Kiss after that.
The other thing is, my personal 5 favorite bands ever, are Kiss, Zeppelin, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, and the Eagles!!! My point is, Lindsey Buckingham is the most underrated and underappreciated guitarist 🎸 and lead man ever!!! Paul was considered a lead singer and backup guitarist, but Lindsey Buckingham wrote most of Fleetwood Mac songs, so if you compare Stanley to Buckingham, you can go your own way lol if you think Paul is even in the ballpark with Lindsey??? Piss off Stanley

matter of fact, Ace did play a couple of solos on Dynasty (excluding his own songs) but what’s also true is that Bob Kulick (RIP) recorded the most of the solos for the album
Well, at the time, teen boys who were their audience said Kiss had become "too fagged out". The costumes looked kind of gay, and the new music wasn't really hard rock. Didn't have to be metal, but it wasn't hard rock. Dynasty was regarded as just OK at the time. But the disco backlash was at its peak so despite I was Made for Lovin You being a pop hit amongst non Kiss music singles buyers, it was the worst possible time Kiss could've put a song like that on a record. If after Dynasty they went back to the Destroyer look at released Creatures of the Night, the band would've kept cranking along instead of almost going bankrupt by 1982. The kids switched to AC DC, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Scorpions, and other bands.

Dynasty was clearly recorded while the band was going through major issues. Gene only played bass on some of the album , Peter only on Dirty Livin' and the Paul and Ace songs were recorded with little involvement from the rest of the band. Despite all this it's a top five KISS album for me.
Exactly….the fans want to embrace the image of a band being a gang., always together, living for rock and roll….and in be beginning it seems it IS that way….read about the Stones living together in an apartment with no heat in London in 62 and 63…. But when they get success, things change. They get older, they move into their own places; they get married, have kids, get fat, lose interest, etc…it’s called life….
How could Peter play in concert which included dynasty songs but not on the album? For the record, the drumming was soft on dynasty. Unmasked was even softer. And turned fans off like me. And what's even more interesting is Sean and Bills relationship going away and that affected Kiss more than anyone thought. And it showed. Why didn't Sean stay with Kiss?
Its hilarious that stanley always speaks like he is regarded by his peers as a great vocalist and excellent guitar player when its simply not the case. On his musical abilities only he would never have made it out of the bars. He is a joke, as is simmons and they are the only two people in the whole world of music who don’t see it.
Dynasty was a massive disappointment for me at the time. After getting blown away by the first clip of Kiss we ever saw here in Australia, 'Rock'n'Roll all nite' and subsequently Destroyer etc. there was Dynasty. I hated it and Unmasked to the extent that i refused to go to their concert at VFL Park in Melbourne in 1980. Because of those albums and because of all the kids they attracted. To this day, Kiss still say that they had never seen so many children at a concert. I was a 17 yr old metalhead right into Kiss among many others. They lost me for a few years there and i still reckon that musically, that was the lowest point of their career.
Peter Criss' issue wasn't his playing, he was fine. I'm pretty confident it was his drum sound. Bonham played large drums but tuned them like a jazz drummer, big and open. Peter Criss's drums were tuned dull and thuddy, and he used those open toms with no bottom resonant head. Just put ambassadors with no dampening on top and bottom and hit a little less hard and let the drums open up. The that he was using Pearl vs Ludwig is prolly also a factor.
I loved the Dynasty ERA. I loved the 'Costumes' with the colors. I can not believe people even Paul make comments about them being bad.. To hear Paul talking about the Dynasty ERA and Billy Squier video is a little extreme. Yes, I was very young at the time...too young to attend a show, but I still look back at it fondly. I remember the commercials for this album and tour being played. And If I could pick a tour to see it would have been this one. That all being said, the stage show itself from what I see was underwhelming though.
Anton was brought to the band by Ace! They became friends when Anton played on Ace's solo album the year before, and Peter was physically unable to drum the album because he was recovering from the car accident that broke both his hands, his nose, and knocked out most of his teeth.
@@kevinchandler179 Okay, so you know nothing about anything apparently - that comment doesn't even make sense. But hey, keep on sucking the BS from Paul's colon. Paul Stanley is bar none, the least honest member of the band ever - including management! LOL

We all love Ace and Peter, but take note…..all 4 did autobiographies…but only 2 members did the narration themselves, and two others couldnt be bothered to put in the work for even for something as simple as that…. Guess which two are the multi millionaires and which ones are worth basically what any random 55 year old is today
Paul claims that Peter was incapable of that second kick drum beat on the rhythm of the song "Love Gun", so he claims he brought in another drummer to play that one extra kick drum beat. If that is so, how was Peter able to manage it fine live, without fail? The claims Paul makes about Peter being this incapable drummer just don't add up. Paul also went on to say that when they reunited with him and Ace, Peter supposedly couldn't play better than a beginner. How can Paul say that when we all saw Unplugged and saw Peter play 2000 man without missing a beat? Also look at the videos of Peter solo in 1992 and 1995. He was playing BETTER than he had played in years! He had the same fire he had back on Alive! Paul is terrible at gaslightijg.
Dynasty was a frickin joke!!! Peter Criss and Ace were cashing out mentally, not even the coke and booze, they have said multiple times, they were tired and worn out of touring and hated the material in general!!
The nightmare began in '76 when the band went from being hungry Rockers to start their journey to pop superstardom ending in recording this garbage album.
Absolute classic album. For all the Ace & Peter fans of which I’m one. Paul is just way above their level. The songs & the great frontman & the voice speaks volumes. Forget the last few years. What a great of rock n roll history. How long would Kiss have lasted with Ace & Peter at the helm😂 A guy who’s autobiography lists his life’s achievements being the size of his dick ( clue it’s not Gene) and a barely functioning drunk. Kiss did some great albums without them. I don’t know why people keep going on about it. Ace quit twice of his own choice and Peter was all about money.

Wow who's he kidding that was a nightmare just to listen to that album
Not as much of a nightmare as listening to that album
Paul and Gene are to KISS what the VH brothers are to Van Halen.
Paul is very sensitive for a straight man. Hmmm
He's "flamboyantly artistic"......
@@jibbityjab2469 So was Freddy Mercury and Elton John. LoL
@@brian-ld4vd Exactly....noticing a trend???
The worst part of Dynasty was a change in sound, which falls more on Paul and Gene.
And even that was more "a change in sound only on three out of four songs on side 1." Side 2 was all traditional Kiss.
What else does Paul have to complain about ??
audiobook.
And I think Paul Stanley was trying to do gay on The elder
Thanks for a clip from a 10 year old book.
TRES Cool/Heavy
Nice guitar work in the background music, whoever it is.
Its hilarious that stanley always speaks like he is regarded by his peers as a great vocalist and excellent guitar player when its simply not the case. On his musical abilities only he would never have made it out of the bars. He is a joke, as is simmons and they are the only two people in the whole world of music who don’t see it.
Man, these clips would be so much better in their original ratio 4 : 3 not cropped to 16 :9, just saying...
I WAS DONE WITH KISS IN 1979 I WAS 11
Huge KISS fan until about 1980. Paul is a worse guitar player than Peter was ever a drummer. Watching Stanley play guitar is embarrassing.
I agree, as a die hard Peter and Ace fan, they should count their blessings 🙌 that Catman only had to play on 2 songs and Ace one!!! Lol 🤦♂️
Nothing new just an excerpt of a long ago made recording that has been out for years with annoying too loud music. Thumbs down. 👎
Paul has been lying his whole liife. so sad. always relied on wriiters for him
What others writers has he relied on?
Paul and Gene really believe their own lies.
Sounds like he’s reading…not just here, but all the time. It’s not normal
Tour was a Huge Financial Disaster
Dynasty is all killer no filler i love magic touch and x ray eyes
Paul Stanley spent 40 years doing nothing but complaining
Anton was brought to the band by Ace! They became friends when Anton played on Ace's solo album the year before, and Peter was physically unable to drum the album because he was recovering from the car accident that broke both his hands, his nose, and knocked out most of his teeth.
Love Ace after Peter of course, but tell me how many songs Ace played on Dynasty? Yeah, that's what I thought!!!
@@kevinchandler179 Okay, so you know nothing about anything apparently - that comment doesn't even make sense. But hey, keep on sucking the BS from Paul's colon. Paul Stanley is bar none, the least honest member of the band ever - including management! LOL
I didn't know Ron Jeremy did security on the Dynasty tour til now
Pual is definitely gay as far as I can remember my friends and I always said hes got to be gay as the years went by any doubt is gone ive worked with many of the gay communitie and I always heard oh yeah hes gay even if hes married with children and hes not just a narcissist hes gay as a well as a flaming youth who's got nothing to lose.
Sounding like a bunch of divas with telling people what they could say.
ALLie
Instead of the starman on the elder I think he was trying to be the gay man
Amazed that Paul has never come out.
He's not gay but you probably are
Soz done with Gene and Paul just greedy dudes whom didn’t do justice to kiss in the end.
Who’s Paul kidding………. He never nailed any single moms
Dynasty was a frickin joke!!! Peter Criss and Ace were cashing out mentally, not even the coke and booze, they have said multiple times, they were tired and worn out of touring and hated the material in general!!
They seem like the mom and dad of the band. But they're not great parents.
Paul is a turd. Peter played great on Dirty living and Gene and Paul were both jealous of Vinnie Vincent.
The nightmare began in '76 when the band went from being hungry Rockers to start their journey to pop superstardom ending in recording this garbage album.
The nightmare of Dynasty is not in the recording of it. It’s in the LISTENING to it!
Never believe anything Paul says.
kiss sold out big time with this album no wonder ace had had enough with paul and gene
Are you kidding? Ace had more songs on this album than Gene had.
Unmasked felt more disingenuous to me than Dynasty. I like both records though.
Granted, the "Dynasty" look was 44 years ago, but it's still very cringe. Those outfits were awful.
Dynasty absolutely sucked ass. The beginning of the end of such a cool band.
I hate when kiss fans regard it as a classic kiss album
Absolute classic album. For all the Ace & Peter fans of which I’m one. Paul is just way above their level. The songs & the great frontman & the voice speaks volumes. Forget the last few years. What a great of rock n roll history. How long would Kiss have lasted with Ace & Peter at the helm😂 A guy who’s autobiography lists his life’s achievements being the size of his dick ( clue it’s not Gene) and a barely functioning drunk. Kiss did some great albums without them. I don’t know why people keep going on about it. Ace quit twice of his own choice and Peter was all about money.
@rn Not at all. Alot of the songs are filler.
