Man I kept getting up at 5 am everyday to go get in line trying to find one. I was never lucky enough to get one. I panicked when they announced it was being discontinued & ended up getting one for 3x the retail price. It was crazy but I love it my modded Nes mini.
Still crazy. I remember that you couldn't easily preorder these and everyone on reddit before hand was like "this is stupid, no one will buy these" and then after you couldn't find one, they were like " I need it"
The restock was the reason I even was able to get the nes classic. I bought one from gamestop and one from Walmart and nagged 2 extra controllers. Controllers and extra nes have been kept sealed. I love playing the one I opened.

@@ornerycuss5804 I mean people can do whatever they please, obviously. And if y’all like modern games in slabs, go for it. But if the expectation is that PS5 games are going to reach the heights of, say, SNES sealed games, it’s not gonna happen. For a few reasons actually but the main one is due to volume. A good selling game in the 90s was like a million copies. A good selling copy of a game today is near 10 million.
No doubt. I bought the Japanese Famicom versions of NES and SNES. Played about $160 total. No regrets. I love both systems and play these games like crazy. No need to buy a Switch and pay a fee every month.
I live in the sticks and our walmart had tons of unpurchased NES classics. I got one just for the controller. The 2 buttons in a line are needed for NES games.
I bought two NES Classic off Ebay in November of 2016 they were a part of the second production run. SNES Classic I also had to buy off Ebay as well unfortunately. Crazy to think eventually we won't be able to play NES and SNES games on Switch. I have two other ways to play those games and much more classic video games for that matter.

I would love an N64 classic, PS2 classic, Sega Saturn classic, ect!!! Guess emulation is still the way to go. Glad I bought 2 Raspberry pi 3B+'s and a Raspberry Pi 4 before they went out of stock!!!
I feel like a ps2 classic isn't needed for another 10 years, they only stopped selling them like 8-10 years ago. Now a sega saturn mini would be legit.
Fortunately for me, I live in a small town with two Wal-Mart super centers (due to a military base being ten miles away). Both were fully stocked and both sat on the shelf for a good month each. They still have both Game & Watches on the shelf even now. I was able to just walk in after work and pick up each system without waiting in line.
I worked at Best Buy in 2019 and one day, 2 NES Classics and about 10 Controllers showed up. I got two controllers and the rest were gone by the end of the week.
I was looking one for weeks for an NES classic, when it came out. When I was making my weekly trip to Toys R Us. I randomly asked an Empolyee, if they had one in the back. They went and looked for me and they came back with the last one in stock. I was so happy that day! I made sure to go to a smaller Walmart near me for the midnight release of the SNES Classic.
I still have my front loading toaster NES and most of the games that come on the NES classic. Nothing says nostalgia like playing on original hardware. Then your playing with power!
I remember waking up early before work to wait in line at a Target for the SNES at 15 degrees (I’ll never do that again). Luckily there were only 4 people (I was 4th) waiting in line. A worker came out and told us they only had like 6 in stock and it was at the front. The first guy was bragging about how he was going to buy all of them and resell them (damn scalper). When we got up front, the manager was like “you are limited to 2”. We all wanted to laugh in his face because he was extremely disappointed in the policy.
I'm pleased I got one after release and an extra controller. Also got the snes mini. The prices are climbing on ebay. I do have to say, having had a ps1 back in the days, I was late to get the PlayStation classic, due to the bad press on release but this mini has to be the best, the system is mint since I've managed to change the internal games. The games run beautifully and brings me back.
The three biggest issues for the bad press with the PS Classic was the weak game selection, the laziness of using PAL roms for non-PAL regions, and the cost cutting choice to use the original pre-thumb stick launch model controllers instead of either the short-lived dual-analog controller or duel-shock controller. Cutting rumble for cost would have probably been fine for most, but bare minimum the controller should of had the thumb sticks like the short lived dual-analog (which is basically a duel-shock without rumble).
The systems were awesome, but the implementation was flawed for both. Second controllers for the NES classic were a huge issue for a while and while they packed in two for the SNES classic, not having them available separately kinda sucked. Controller cord was also an issue. I also would have preferred usb vs propriety connections for the controllers as getting replacements is often pricey these days.
The nice thing about the proprietary connection was that it was the Wii/Wii U remote port so they served a dual purpose. Normally I'm against proprietary ports, but at the time that was their best move.
If they knew what they were doing, they would sell N64 Classics with bluetooth controller support for the N64 controller and do all the colours. So much easy $$
Passed on the Nes, would've been interested but wasn't worth the struggle for me. For the SNES classic I was up early one morning and decided to give it a shot. Was like 32nd or something in line at target and they had like 33 or 34, so I got lucky there. Didn't use it as much as I thought I would, hacked it some time later and still didn't find it worth the trouble of hooking up just to play some roms I already could on one of my always connected hacked systems
This is a big part of the reason people pirate. Nintendo doesn't give many opportunities for you to legally obtain and play their old games, and when they do, they use scummy practices like this.
@@sonicplys64 It's Nintendo turning everyone into those people who hate Nintendo!!! I was an Atari/Genesis guy growing up, and crap like this was the reason why!!! Cough cough POWERGLOVE cough cough!!!
How the funk was that 6 years ago already????? I feel like I just bought one!!! Man, its really depressing how quickly time is going by. We're here for such a short time. Ended up with 3 of them but recently sold 2 on ebay.
Manufactured FOMO must be 80% of retro game sales. I see a lot of hate toward Limited Run etc. I pretty much never buy that stuff but can understand how I might wait pretty much forever without the scarcity push.
I used to play N64 roms on 'sixtyforce' emu (mac). There were some minor glitches on some games but it was more than good enough to run some of the essential N64 games perfectly, like Mario 64, Star Fox, F-Zero X, Zelda, etc. It would be nice for a real N64 classic, even though there are ways to mod your pi and make it into a literal N64 mini.
Sounds like you had a bad time getting them. I got my hands on 3 NES Classics on the restock. I got my hands on 4 SNES Classics on the first launch date. Not scalping anything. Kept one of each to collect. Opened one of each to play. Gave one to a friend as a gift.
It's been 6 years? Seriously? Six YEARS? This one blew me away, I'll need a minute. edit: the limited restock is when I got mine. I feel a bit better. That is still 4 years ago but I thought I was losing track of time.
I went to the midnight releases for both the NES and SNES classic editions. Our Walmart got 6 NES classic editions. I was 5th in line for it. Our Walmart got 20 SNES classic editions. I was 4th in line for it. I was lucky to get both, on release day at midnight. About 6 months after the NES classic edition was released, Walmart randomly had 5 or 6 NES classic edition controllers. I grabbed one. Both are pretty cool to have.
On any given day, one or more of the Target, Walmart, Bestbuy or Gamestop stores would always have an NES controller but never the console. The local Walmart said they got two boxes of controllers but only one box of the console. So 20-ish controllers and 5-6 consoles for the entire 1st release. Gota smack someone for that.
This brought up some really SOUR memories for me that day. Thanks. ;P You should do a retrospective on the NECT16 release.. and even bigger fiasco and to this day is the ONLY mini I am short because I refuse to pay $300+ for it (and it was a childhood fav and honestly the only mini I had actually been looking forward to for my real nostalgia for it)
I think these mini consoles will always have a place. Because of them being cute and simple. These days when a PS5 needs setting up and you need to do all of that other crap, just being able to plug and play is nice. I hope Nintendo revisits the concept someday. The game and watches are adorable.
Might get the N64 Mini but don't really see many of Minis being made much longer?Almost positive Sony won't try anymore after dropping the ball with the Playstation Classic.
@@CAPCOM784 I don't see these going away. They might not make ''mini'' consoles but plug and play consoles have been around since the early 2000s Nintendo will probably do more plug and play things even if they won't be mini replicas (like the game and watches). They've been really popular and made loads of money so yeah,
I bought mine after the Snes mini came out (did they make a new batch?), but I can’t believe the original launch was 6 years ago! Excellent little machine, especially when hacked and you added more games.
I think the SNES Mini had a larger production run to begin with and replenished throughout that year and then stopped. It had a planned restock summer of the next year along with the NES Classic. So essentially both Minis had two batches if you dont consider whatever they called restocks in the first months of release as batches anyway.
What I did was to buy a Wii controller for 10€ in a pawn shop and use that as a primary controller for the NES classic. You can use the home button on the wii controller to reset the mini NES. Later on when all the madness passed, I bought an original 2nd controller for the mini NES. Still play it from time to time. I also have the same case as you! Cool little thing.
I got mine when they rereleased it, and a second controller. I was one of the lucky ones. I love the thing, it was the first time I really got into Zelda 1.
I didn't have a problem getting the nes, snes, genesis, commodore, Playstation classic and both the Mario and Zelda game and watch. Now the tg16 mini has been impossible for me to get one retail
I skipped the NES mini but my brother has got one, he seemed happy with it, can't believe it's been 6yrs tho, wow. Nintendo's licencing model was ruthless bitd, only around the time of PC Engine did companies like Namco Taito and Konami finally break free from the giants grip!, so manufactured scarcity is nothing I wouldn't have expected tbh lol✌️
I checked a Walmart about once a week for a couple of months. I finally saw it in the display case. There were only 4. After I contacted a salesperson to get one out for me, this old woman wanted the remaining three, and was told one per customer. She was like "Well fine, I'll get my husband and son to come in and purchase the rest."
Six years already? Jeez. I still remember when these things were next to impossible to find at normal retail price. I did eventually get both the NES and SNES Classic Editions, while also completing the set with a PlayStation Classic, SEGA Genesis Mini, and even a PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini (which it and its US and JP counterparts are incredibly expensive nowadays). They are fun devices to have, even if you're just collecting them. Plus, for the SNES Classic Edition's case, it's the only legal and physical way to have Star Fox 2. And while I'm not a huge fan of the standard cord length of either the NES or SNES controllers, an extension cord helped remedy that problem and having a Wii Classic Controller is a good bonus too since you can use the home button to access the home menu! Modding them is a nifty bonus as well, since it's so easy to do and can help fill in the gaps for whatever games you feel should've been added or to have your childhood library in one small device. If nothing else, just mod the systems to have a button input to return to the home menu without hitting the reset button/switch, if you don't have a Classic Controller handy.
Also for the NES Classic and Famicom Mini, the noise channel was WAY off. Wasn't until the Shonen Jump edition Mini, that they fixed the noise channel and some of the input lag.
at least now walmart has a limit of 1 switch console per customer. something all stores should of done from the start. if wanted both the oled and say an og switch or lite to go with it they wont sell them to you its only one device period. at least thats how it is where i live in nc. they do the same at best buy, target and so on and if you take the one you bought back to car then go in and try to get another they will refuse to sell. after they started doing this the walmart near me still has plenty of switch consoles available. no one should have to rely on emulation. it should be kept as an option, but playing games on original hardware is always the best way to go.
Nintendo’s entire tactic of making the NES classic scarce is what kept me from buying a switch and their products. I did manage to get one from a local Walmart and I almost bought a second one, but the dumb cashier in the middle of the night told me he would only sell me one. Which I still hate him to this day.
Tell me about it⌛ flies. I aged but my Nintendo mini is still new in the box😂. Well one to play and one to collect. As i did with the Sega, Super Nintendo and PlayStation mini. I never knew about those bundles either😐
7:45 Yeah, I think that especially now that the Nintendo Switch has surpassed the Wii in total sales, Nintendo is looking to lessen their options. I believe that the (limited) Amiibos, NES Classic, SNES Classic, and Nintendo Mobile games were Nintendo's approaches to give stock holders confidence in the company following the poor sales of the Wii U. The Amiibos have become more mainstream, so they're not going anywhere. Nintendo has always been anti-emulation, so it was surprising to see the NES and SNES classics... with the Switch giving online play to old games, they'll never do another "classic" system. I think that the Nintendo Mobile games have already signaled that they're closing down, as they're now closing down at a rate faster than they're launching new ones (it looks like Nintendo is publishing a lot of the newer mobile games that have come out like Pikmin Bloom).
I've always held the opinion that businesses that use psychological means to their advantage is sickening and should be regulated, and I'm not talking about psychological effects like viral marketing of commercials and the like. What I really hate is the use of underlying psychological tactics, like using hunger in a supermarket to drive up candy sales (IE; those impulse sections up front, that's a psychological way to get you to spend more), just another one is this artificial "sparsity", in this case Nintendo could have definitely made more mini nes. What's worse is that there are people who don't even realize they're being MANIPULATED by businesses and they don't even know it, and then defend said business. I've always thought businesses powers in this day and age are growing bigger and bigger but people seem to think businesses have the interests of their customers in mind, when they absolutely do not.
The nature of business is to make money and people either understand or they dont. Like never can you view a business as looking out for you or your best interest. Maybe a business provides something you actually need, thats fine sure.. business from the beginning of time was a way to serve a perceived need and for that owner to benefit from serving that need. Nowadays even business that serve needs use psychological BS to gain an edge in the marketplace. Stuff like electronics, toys and other forms of entertainment have forever used manipulation to gain an edge... Look at how advertisements are used towards kids throughout the years. A lot of these tactics they use towards kids which are easily impressionable are now used towards adults as well. Its weird stuff to think about and analyze.
I remember I went to Shopko around 2017 back before they shutdown the store in 2019. I had my sister drive me in the morning and there was about 3 people in line for the NES mini. The Shopko employee said there was only 3 in stock and one of the people walked out. I looked at the NES mini and decided I didn't want it mainly because it was missing many of my favorite games Back to the Future II & III, Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Dragon Warrior I, II, III, IV, Tecmo Super Bowl, Crystalis, Ninja Gaiden III, Mega Man 3. I called back the person and they came right back and they grabbed it and I decided to order a Famicom Mini and Super Famicom Mini instead but I can't read Japanese text. I also played the Sega Genesis Mini from Atgames. 2 years later in 2019 I decided to buy the Playstation Classic mini from the Shopko store since it was originally a flop console as Shopko was shutting down their store. I played Final Fantasy VII, Wild Arms, Revelations Persona. I was sad it didn't originally include Toy Story 2, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Streak Hoverboard Racing, Reboot. Thankfully the Chinese tech company groups released True Blue Mini USB hack drives and also released Gamebox 128 USB hack drive which works on my Playstation Classic and I can now play many of my favorite games on NES, SNES, Playstation 1, Sega Genesis, Gameboy including Crash Bandicoot Warped 3 Prince of Persia 1, 2. But I can't play the Nintendo 64 games on the PS classic since they glitch up. I also use my Raspberry Pi 4 and the SD card to play N64 games.
I think with N64, the goldeneye licence is a roadblock. Everyone expects it to be on an n64 mini, and it likely isn't possible. That being said, I would think nintendo would be salivating over the chance to sell you 3+ extra controllers in all the original launch colors. Maybe once switch sales decline? They've run out of wii u games to release for it so they'll actually have to make new games now
Over haf the internet back then stated Switch would be the final nail in the coffin. Glad I believed differently. Nintendo wanted the Nes Classic Edition well known because we all understood WIiU did not sale or push Nintendo in a positive way at all.
*HOLD UP, Ron!* If the NES Classic Edition _wasn't_ the first genuine miniaturized plug-and-play emulation version of a Golden Age 2nd (or is it 3rd) generation home console, then which one was?
@@glenndoiron9317 -- Well, clearly @Games would HAVE to be the only other option. Guess I wasn't exactly factoring them in (although they could never really go wrong with their Atari units). Thank goodness they're finally stepping up their, uh... _game_ in the market somehow.
The NSO controller for N64 might be their new gold standard for the artificial scarcity tactic. Whatever new system for NSO gets a controller - you wouldn’t dare not buying it the first day it goes up for sale
I didn't get the NES Mini, but I did end up getting the SNES mini. I ended up playing on it for a little while, modded it and added some more games and all. However just a few days after I had ordered the SNES Mini the Super NT was announced. I went back and forth on whether I should get it or not since importing it here along with getting an SD2SNES cart would be pricey. However I found a great deal on the system and the cart together barely used. After that my SNES mini just became a display piece.
Ptsd man, I still remember the ass manager at Walmart making us wait 5 hours to sell the nes classic then sold it in the hunting cashier just to break off our line. Dam scalpers had thier family and even kids buying 2 per person. I was the only one to get just one and it felt good after talking bad outloud about scalpers in line.
I still love my SNES mini. Hacked it and added in various SNES games that were iconic to the system. I never owned a SNES when I was a kid... was in the Sega camp in both 8 and 16 bit systems so this was a lovely way for me to finally own a SNES. Was lucky to get an official carry case during a closing down sale to have the full authentic Nintendo experience. I've yet to hack my Mega Drive classic though... need to get around to it one of these days.
Many have hopes for a N64 or Game Cube mini but very doubtful Nintendo will release them for the foreseeable future as they’re concentrating on Switch & online services, anything else with large libraries of games will jeopardize their plan. Can always hope and dream tho
I prefer my Retroflag Superpi Case for SNES that has the cartridge. It is awesome. Great controller too, and of course, its more powerful than the SNES Classic.
have my SNES Classic hooked up with the 8bitdo wireless receiver and will randomly play it, I have accidentally messed up the save data through the weird save states
Went to Walmart on release day. There was a line but when they opened there was no line management so people just ran. So we left and lined up at Target. Luckily Target gave out tickets and was able to get mine. Sadly I never even saw any extra controllers.
Dude I never got the NES classic, but I got the SNES Classic from Walmart and I love it because it's official and I like to keep it with the games it came with, same with both the official Genesis Minis I have. I love owning the games versus paying to play them.
I remember I bought the NES classic, thinking that would be harder to find than that SNES classic, boy was I wrong. After Christmas I couldn't find a SNES classic until the refurbished restock that Nintendo did.
You know back then I wanted one, then last year they were selling them refurbished for cheaper than retail price finally got one and now ehhhhh. Might sell one soon for a steam deck which can basically play anything, on the go! Device is nice especially when you hack it, but idk didn’t hold my attention for long
Nintendo has experts who can measure true market demand vs. scalper/resale hype. Even when it seems like there’s a lot of demand, I’m sure a sweet spot exists that helps them decide if there’s really enough true demand to warrant rereleases.
Nintendo is never shy to capitalize on nostalgia... and I'll never understand why they didn't keep that gravy train going. I'm sure they make SOME money from their Nintendo Online service, but overall... its a bad and disappointing product. Their addition of N64 and Genesis was a feeble and expensive attempt to keep the service relevant. The product also was a horrible product... with bad emulation, poor game selection and super expensive controllers. Their "Mini" line however wasn't. What was stopping them from making a NES Jr Mini with 30 different games and dog-bone controllers? What was stopping them from making a SNES Jr Mini with 30 different games... or a SNES Mini "Super Gameboy" edition with 30 Gameboy games on it. All of these could have been EXTREMELY lucrative cash grabs that woulda had the Nintendo Fanbois and Scalpers pitching their tents in front of Best Buys... but what did we get instead? We got an OLED Switch at the tail end of an already underwhelmingly powered console generation for Nintendo and no stand alone handheld which seems in the works... which I believe is the next "curve" Nintendo is woefully behind on (Look at the attention that SteamDeck is getting right now, and that's all you need to know that people still want to buy handheld consoles). I don't really have a dog in this race... I don't like Nintendo as a company, and outside of what my son's enthusiasm for the Switch... I haven't personally purchased a "New" Nintendo console since the Wii and I wasn't a fan.
I was able to get the snes classic trough Amazon tresure truck. Then a few months later target had restock nes mini. I was able to pick up one then at regular price.
I hate the scalpers, and their "HOW BAD DO YOU WANT EM" tactics. They're mini consoles, not CC's Potato Chips, like in those Commercials with Homer and Bart Simpson, where Homer does stupid things only to be let down. Thank Iwata I was able to get the two mini consoles. I recently got some wireless controllers. I didn't go for the PlayStation Classic; Inferior.
I remember calling Target to find out it was finally back in stock. I asked them to hold it, but they said "we can't hold, because it's popular." Uh, yeah. I wouldn't ask you to hold it if I knew there was no chance it would sell.
I originally bought one and I sold it and kept the box. A year or so ago Nintendo had some refurbished with just a basic box with a sticker. So happy I bought it again ☺️
The only mini I bought was the ps1 and it was dirt cheap. How much were the nes and snes minis when they first came out? I just looked on Amazon and they are £239!!!!!
I got mine for somewhere between 70 and 90 euro, similar to the megadrive mini. All modded with complete libraries for each one of them 😁 Can't believe they are that price now that's ridiculous, you could get a mini pc for close to that and can play everything on it without as limited storage
Lol he said classic! Because when he said NES my 43 year old balding, blind butt remember getting that on xmas as a little kid! I was about to say.....I bought controllers that other companies made for it lol. When I got mine. And extensions. Worked for me!

Only one I really wanted was the SNES classic and glad I found one for retail price. I'm hoping for a Dreamcast Classic.
I want a Classic everything retro. Dreamcast would definitely be one I'd want as I think Sega would do a good job.
I love all my classic consoles! I really enjoyed your videos on them as well so thank you!!!
30 years from now...a mini version of the mini nes. So small it fits in DEZ NUTZ!
@@josephjones7828 luckily having all the true blue mini packs sorts everything out game wise.
I remember buying one at midnight at Walmart, there was a line but not too bad. I was amazed at how in-demand these were after they released.
Raspberry pi
The nice thing about the proprietary connection was that it was the Wii/Wii U remote port so they served a dual purpose. Normally I'm against proprietary ports, but at the time that was their best move.
It's been 6 years already? Dang, time flies...
Really love this channel. Keep the awesome content coming dude.
I was number 34 at toys are us...crazy
I can play any game from 1975 to about 1999 on my raspberry pi.
This is a big part of the reason people pirate. Nintendo doesn't give many opportunities for you to legally obtain and play their old games, and when they do, they use scummy practices like this.
You people are supposed to hate everything Nintendo. Why are you still playing thier games?
@@sonicplys64 It's Nintendo turning everyone into those people who hate Nintendo!!! I was an Atari/Genesis guy growing up, and crap like this was the reason why!!! Cough cough POWERGLOVE cough cough!!!
@@tmapes1989 Rollin rocker 😅
I modded mine to have the entire collection on it. Best thing i ever did and so convenient
Thanks. ;P
You should do a retrospective on the NECT16 release.. and even bigger fiasco and to this day is the ONLY mini I am short because I refuse to pay $300+ for it (and it was a childhood fav and honestly the only mini I had actually been looking forward to for my real nostalgia for it)
Got mine from Amazon Japan
New Nintendo promo. "Nintendo, yeah, you know what you're doing."
It wasn’t the first Emulation box, but boy was it the best consumer box we had seen! A great little bit of kit
@@bigbabatunde1218 hence why I said not the first emulation box. But those AT games ones were terrible in comparison. Did you even read what I wrote?
@@bigbabatunde1218 yes I have. Very disappointing if I’m honest. Very little care went into those things and it shows
I think these mini consoles will always have a place.
I added an additional 70 games. Mini NES complete!
I added the full library..rarely use it tho
What I did was to buy a Wii controller for 10€ in a pawn shop and use that as a primary controller for the NES classic. You can use the home button on the wii controller to reset the mini NES.
Later on when all the madness passed, I bought an original 2nd controller for the mini NES. Still play it from time to time. I also have the same case as you! Cool little thing.
I saw one at a Goodwill store for $4.99....but some cigarette lady picked it up before I could get to it. Haunts me to this very day!
I got mine when they rereleased it, and a second controller. I was one of the lucky ones. I love the thing, it was the first time I really got into Zelda 1.
Lol at the WalMart pic
I didn't have a problem getting the nes, snes, genesis, commodore, Playstation classic and both the Mario and Zelda game and watch. Now the tg16 mini has been impossible for me to get one retail
Where has the time gone I had to wait for the restock to get the nes but I stood in line for 3 hours to get the snes classic on launch day
Thanks John C. Riley for this review.
It's an impressive lil' device. Six years old and I prefer to play my old games on the SNES mini rather than my MiSTer.
SIX YEARS ALREADY? I think i've been stuck in a time bubble...
That the same problem with the Hallmark ornament in the last two years and could not find any the stores because of the hoarders
I was able to get a SNES Classic at launch, but the NES ones were non-existent. I had to wait until the second wave of those to get one
These tiny consoles (the NES Classic and SNES Classic) were supposed to be stopgaps between the Wii U and the Switch...
Also for the NES Classic and Famicom Mini, the noise channel was WAY off. Wasn't until the Shonen Jump edition Mini, that they fixed the noise channel and some of the input lag.
Man, I remember not being able to get one (did eventually at retail price), and remembering cex (UK) selling them for £250! Crazy time.
i got mine from target on release day. they had under 20. an employee came out before they opened and handed out numbers to us. 😅
at least now walmart has a limit of 1 switch console per customer. something all stores should of done from the start. if wanted both the oled and say an og switch or lite to go with it they wont sell them to you its only one device period. at least thats how it is where i live in nc. they do the same at best buy, target and so on and if you take the one you bought back to car then go in and try to get another they will refuse to sell. after they started doing this the walmart near me still has plenty of switch consoles available. no one should have to rely on emulation. it should be kept as an option, but playing games on original hardware is always the best way to go.
Nintendo’s entire tactic of making the NES classic scarce is what kept me from buying a switch and their products. I did manage to get one from a local Walmart and I almost bought a second one, but the dumb cashier in the middle of the night told me he would only sell me one. Which I still hate him to this day.
I have 3 of them. I hacked one and the others are still in the box.

A friend gifted me one.
As for snes classic, found one in a shop in the middle of the desert.
They've run out of wii u games to release for it so they'll actually have to make new games now
Tbh this thing got me back into gaming or back into more modern consoles. I still need the snes one.
Over haf the internet back then stated Switch would be the final nail in the coffin. Glad I believed differently. Nintendo wanted the Nes Classic Edition well known because we all understood WIiU did not sale or push Nintendo in a positive way at all.
*HOLD UP, Ron!*
If the NES Classic Edition _wasn't_ the first genuine miniaturized plug-and-play emulation version
of a Golden Age 2nd (or is it 3rd) generation home console, then which one was?
See : @games. Everything that came before it was pretty crap, the NES classic raised the bar on both user interface and emulation quality.
Snes was easy to find bought 2. NES I had to wait a month during restock love both
I still love my SNES mini.
Great controller too, and of course, its more powerful than the SNES Classic.
garbo
have my SNES Classic hooked up with the 8bitdo wireless receiver and will randomly play it, I have accidentally messed up the save data through the weird save states
I got a snes one 2 years ago. Could have had a nes too but didn’t know it was hard to come by
The N64 Classic/ and or GB Classic will be saved for Nintendo's next console.
Here in wisco they had tons of them at launch and piles for months after.
I went to Wal-Mart with food poisoning to get mine. I puked in line. 🤣
I remember being so pissed, I just put together a retropi with snes case
Went to Walmart on release day. There was a line but when they opened there was no line management so people just ran. So we left and lined up at Target. Luckily Target gave out tickets and was able to get mine. Sadly I never even saw any extra controllers.
Dude I never got the NES classic, but I got the SNES Classic from Walmart and I love it because it's official and I like to keep it with the games it came with, same with both the official Genesis Minis I have. I love owning the games versus paying to play them.
I wish they did a trilogy and had the N64 mini. And I wish Sega did more after the Mega Drive.
Sega kinda did. The Game Gear Micro but it was only released in Japan.
How many fist fights did you see on opening day? :-)
I bought a Famicom NESClassic while on deployment and it actually had the Famicom style games instead of the NES games.
I asked them to hold it, but they said "we can't hold, because it's popular."
Uh, yeah.
