This Corridor vid makes me appreciate the older films/practical effects so much more. The fact the older films & effects look good at all is a testament to how insanely skilled the people working on them were.
They probably could have washed the natural oils out of the powder with alcohol and then dried it in an oven to make it clump less. Or added some fumed silica to enhance the flowability

I loved the storytelling of this. Working on a passion project and running into brick walls with budget, time or ideas is so hard. Seeing them work through problems whilst keeping the spirits up and delivering a really fun making-of and product was great. The funny script and graphic design were the cherries on top. What you should've done is make an air hockey table and aerate the walnut shell dust from underneath, which is basically what the worm does in the movie. That would un-clump it and also give you the effect you're looking for when the worm pops up.
Adam Savage must be the number one celebrity to hang around with, super friendly, creative, tons of stories and items with stories behind them to tell and he's always genuinely exited to see new stuff or fans and amateurs showing their work even though after decades in the industry you'd reasonably expect him to go "eh" on most things. After all he's seen it all. "How do we make micro sand?" "Boom, powdered walnut" like wtf how do you know all this? That's incredible. He has solutions for problems you didn't even encounter yet.
Warning: Not all Harkonnen are friendly. Recommend you to use "The Voice" or to carry a Laz weapon in case things get hostile with the Harkonnen pilot.

I absolutely LOVE that practical effects are still being done. I have always and will always say that well-done practical effects are just amazing, and I could see it even before you got to your finished product, that with more time and work, you could make that practical effect using Adam Savage's worm be *beautiful*.

Mind you, I used to work at a movie theater as everything (projectionist ((working with film)), usher, box office and snack bar). Flavacol is what we use, and most theaters, to salt their kernels. We use half a table spoon for one batch, which makes 3 large tubs worth of popcorn. Use it. Sparingly. It'll go a long way. Wren just straight up took a huge hit for a bite lol. That's a lot of salt. Also since I mentioned it. 1 cup of orville redenbacher kernels. 1/2 cup of orville redenbacher oil. 1/2 tablespoon of flavacol. You have home made movie theater popcorn. Enjoy your movie, your showing is on your couch and about to begin!
seeing these things, just shows me over and over, that real footage, married to cgi work, makes a amazing piece of art. dont kill the one bird when you already have two.
True, and the all CG shot looked pretty good and took way less time, which is why you see that so much these days. The true magic is when productions take the time to do things the right way, using each tool to its fullest potential.
that small amount of moisture wouldn't do that much. it was just packed to much, paired with probably not being fully dry when they got it. i would assume it would pull moisture out of the air very easily.
And the humidity in the air and whatever humidity was inside of it in the bag. I wonder if there's some way to record in low humidity, is the only way to do that recording in, like, Minnesota in the winter?

Props make or break a scene. A bad prop can ruin a virtually perfect stunt. Bad miniatures can ruin the vibe. I would love to see y’all get a prop master on the couch for a “Propmaster reacts” series perhaps with a guest host like Adam Savage. I’m sure Adam can hook y’all up with a bunch of propmasters. This would be amazing!
I have a laowa myself and here is what i would do to improve your final shot: 1. Increase the size of the miniature(!). I like the idea of the popcorn bucket but there are many reasons why a small miniature doesnt look real (fov, interaction with sand, lens distortion...) maybe to the size of a dog. 2. Actually shoot outside. Miniatures look fantastic in the sun. Its really hard to imitate that. Plus its free. Plus less mess. 3. Dont use laowa lens. Laowa lens is amazing for really tiny scenes like in my vids but not so much if the objects are the size of a coke can or above.(but you already did that)

Adam Savage!! Definitely a legend. I watched his show when I was a kid, from when he had hair to when he went bald, and then to growing his hair back again. I really loved his team and the show on the Discovery Channel back then.
Adam Savage is always a treat. I've been a fan since Mythbusters. Most anything I've seen him do has been great. I love Tested, and have spent many hours there, watching him build things, or go through his mini Ted Talks. I've been following Corridor since Frozen Crossing way back in the day, and I knew that Mythbusters and Adam had a huge impact on the Corridor guys. I'm so glad they were able to collaborate. I love Adam's enthusiasm, positivity, and support. I look forward to more in the future. This was great all the way around.

Fuller’s earth… ;) Also, maybe use the air duster or maybe an airzooka under the rig (beneath the dust) to shoot air at the moment the worm is puppeteered upward. Also, you could try using fishing line to pull the worm up from above instead of pushing it from below for more control. Lastly, you could get a cheap bass shaker and attach it to the bottom of your rig so you can play bass sounds to taste and get the dust to move around as you wish either before the money shot for heightened suspense or even at the moment of… uh… climax. Anyway, just some ideas your video sparked in the SFX artist brain in me.

Feeding the air OUT of the mouth and still having the delayed shot of air would've been crazy. It would looked like the worm's breath was pulverizing boulders. Shooting under water might've also been interesting
Practical effects with slight CG enhancements really seem to yield the best results. Literally the best of both worlds resulting in something superior.
Eyy, they used Flavacol! Fun-fact, Flavacol is the special popcorn salt used to both flavor and color popcorn for theaters (where I learned it from) and is great if you wanna make the real-deal.

Feeding the air OUT of the mouth and still having the delayed shot of air would've been crazy. It would looked like the worm's breath was pulverizing boulders. Shooting under water might've also been interesting
