    I am 66 years old.
I have been on blood pressure medication for 15 years.
I was on statins for high cholesterol.
Four months ago, I started walking 4 miles a day every single day without fail, and I am now off of blood pressure medication, and I am off of statins.
I just had my blood test done and my doctor cannot believe it. All of my levels of cholesterol blood pressure and sugar were in the low normal range. I have you to thank for this, sir, because I saw your video and made the decision to begin walking every day . I hope this true testament from me will help others to do the same.

My husband walked every day about 3-5 miles for 40 years until he turned 90 and slowly he’s stopped completely. I’ve been asking him to help ME to walk more to encourage him. He tries but his walking is quite difficult. The lesson here: walk while you have the circumstances and the health before time passes and you are no longer able. Start when you can!

The reason why you feel better is not so much of the walking, it's because you've stopped drinking. Alcohol and drug use takes a toll on the body overall. Whenever a person stops drinking and using drugs (after going through the withdrawal), they will feel like a brand-new person.

Has made a huge difference health wise, acid reflux went very quickly after I quit, blood pressure now normal, no more brain fog, improved energy levels and of course have more money in my pocket. I'm 61. I was 300lbs, had a heart attack in my early 50s and a pacemaker at 56. I went on a strict KETO diet and began walking every morning for a couple of miles. I've lost close to 100lbs and feel great. Like others have said, once you get past the "Oh God, I have to get up and walk", it becomes I NEED the walk. I feel better when I walk in the morning than when I don't. It's that simple. Fortunately, I have a buddy to do it with and that helps a lot. I walk 6 days a week. Usually leave one day for other stuff like yard work and golf to get my exercise.

I totally agree. I am 72 and walk 50 minutes in the park everyday. I start before breakfast, just a glass of water. No sunglasses, I look ahead of me as much as possible to let the light in, and focus as far as I can for my eyesight. I feel great, also, no covid, no,flu...most importantly I get my best ideas when I walk. I sometimes record my ideas as I walk. I am writing, and I am convinced that walking stimulates the brain and increases creativity. I see the results. The last 5 to 10 minutes I spend with the crows, feeding them. Then home, breakfast and open the computer to write. 5 to 6 days a week. For 4 years now. I feel the difference.

I would like to add that while walking at a fast clip or long intervals is best for you, that doesn't mean if you can't do it you don't try anything. I was ill for two years and ended up very de-conditioned and using a walker. I went through physical therapy and they had me on a schedule to move around for five minutes every hour. I progressed to losing the walker, holding my husbands arm to walk around slowly, to walking around the park and on a treadmill. Now a year later I garden, hike and whatever I want. If you can't do things don't give up. Just push yourself a tiny bit more everyday. If you can only take 100 steps that is OK, try to do it 3 times a day. Coincidence? This morning I decided to walk a mile and vowed that I would start my mornings with this small habit, to try to build a routine. Came home and sat down with my coffee to look at UA-cam and came across this video. What is hard, is putting ourselves first and taking the time to do something as small as this 20 minute walk. My goal is not necessarily to lose weight, its to give myself the grace to take this time. Thx for your encouragement.

I expanded my routes somewhat and pushed - NOT successful at first!!! But over time, I got that up. IN my neighborhood, is not the most safe!! Sometimes a drunk or someone will start out behind me- Now, without running, I can turnon the after burners and leave any walker in my dust- because other people can NOT make 4mph!! best wishes! During those ten years I never once had a cough or cold, not even COVID and my waist reduced in size.
Now retired in our 60s, my wife and I both walk 2 miles everyday, a round trip that takes us into the countryside and up down some small hills, we've seen nature change daily which helps our general wellbeing.

You have to give your body a rest because you're not a robot. Even machines break down after an extensive amount of use, so what does that tells you about the human body? When you feel tired, exhausted your body is alerting you to stop and rest. The body can only take so much, and too much of anything is not good for you! If you're overworked and over exercising and not allowing your body to rest, I would strongly advice to you take heed. Some people just don't know when to stop! A person can work out and exercise 24/7, but when God is ready to take us from this earth, there is nothing that nobody can do to stop it, regardless of what we do. If your occupation is already physical, active then you don't really need to do a lot of walking afterwards, because you're getting enough exercise at work, and you're getting paid for it. I'm now retired, but when I was working in a manufacturing facility, (which was very physical) with no air conditioning in the spring and summer months, working 8-10 hours a day for 30+ years, that was my exercise. I was too tired to do anything else when I got home. I took a shower and relaxed for the rest of the day. You think I'm going to go out and walk 4 miles or more, just after working in a hot facility for 8-10 hours? You already know the answer.

I’ve lived with MS for decades. My balance and gait have improved tremendously with daily walks… when I started, a PT provider was insisting I start using a walker. That got me out there. My lifelong motto was always ‘no pain, no pain’, and now at 68, while I have no nagging sports injuries evolving into arthritis, I confess daily walking has saved my mobility.

I'm stiff and sore and my balance isn't great, although, it's not bad but I know things will get worse if I don't do something. So far, I say every night before I go to sleep that 'tomorrow I'm going to start walking' but most times I don't go out and follow through! On top of everything that I've mentioned I'm on 2 meds for Type II diabetes so walking alone would be beneficial to help with my blood sugars. One thing though that I must mention is this: men can safely walk alone in the woods, around most neighborhoods, etc. but females have to be twice as careful when walking alone in the same places so this is another concern. Just my humble opinion but I do hope to be inspired to make walking my priority so that I can live fully and move without pain and stiffness. It feels like I recently started walking but it has already been two months. Im eating healthy and walking off twenty pounds that it took me four years to put on and at 61 I am starting over. Bought new summer outfits and made sure to buy my new fall/winter wardrobe two sizes smaller than I was when I started. Its my motivation to not skip a day because I am excited about the new clothes and want to fit my new wardrobe by the time the hot weather gives way to the fall. On top of all this its really something I look forward to doing everyday. I looking around now for some wet weather gear so that I can walk in the rain too!

I have a dog 🐕 and for the past 13 years I have walked it every day 2 - 3 times a day. I always found it a chore but I realize just how much this must benefit me. I'm now 71 and I hate to think what I'd have been without it. There's always a silver lining as they say!

I totally agree with you about doing it every day--yes, it is the hard part but if you miss a day get back on track. The same goes for lifting weights even if it is only two day a week--the hard part is keeping at it. If you do it long enough it becomes part of your lifestyle whether it is walking, biking, or weight lifting or other kinds of exercise.
I walk all year around even in the cold winter, fall, summer, and spring. I find it helps to ward off colds and viruses and keeps my body in shape and running well.

I’m a walker also and love it. I’ve been doing it most of my life but in the past two years, I do it consistently. If I don’t walk every day now, it affects my mood. I’ve noticed my mental clarity is much sharper and I’ve changed the way I eat also to a non inflammatory diet.

If I can’t get out in nature to walk/hike, I walk at golf resorts.
There is always water (sprinklers/lakes) , smell of fresh cut grass and it feels safer than walking down the street or at the parks.
Calm relaxing atmosphere and the people are happy.
    Just my observational experience.

It's so simple that it's difficult because we make it hard. I lost 15lbs walking an hour a day for 30 days about 3 months ago. Then I made an excuse to quit. Pollen was bad and it worsened my asthma. I think I need to walk with you for a while. Thank you!

    • @WalkingisFitness
      @WalkingisFitness  2 місяці тому +1

Yeah…the hard part is keeping the commitment we made to ourself. That said, bad asthma is nothing to trifle with. My wife has it and had to go to the hotel once because it got so bad. Scary stuff.

Thank you for this. I'm going to start walking more. I used to run, and still do other training, but hip bursitis Is really taking a toll. I'm with a physiotherapist now, and going back to bare minimum in order to build up again. Walking will replace running for me for good. New subscriber, I really like it here!

At 73 I am very fortunate that I feel great almost every single day. No aches, no pains, never had COVID, blood work all within normal range every year. I do have a rower and do 100 reps every morning... but I can't seem to get myself out and walking. I hope this video changes that. Yes, I would like to lose a few pounds. but mostly I want cardio vascular stamina. I live in a fairly flat area, so do wish I had more inclines in a walk. That really makes the difference.

    • @WalkingisFitness
      @WalkingisFitness  2 місяці тому

The key is finding a fitness activity you love. Not everybody is going to love walking and that’s ok. Sounds like rowing is something you truly enjoy and that’s great. If you can add walking to what you’re doing, hopefully you’ll enjoy that as much. Thanks for watching

I love to walk, but for some of us, there are so many annoying barriers. I live in a place where the weather rarely cooperates (dangerously hot/humid, rains a lot), and there is no pleasant place to walk that is convenient to my apartment home. Yes, I CAN just go down three stories' worth of steps and walk around my ugly, treeless neighborhood, but it's not enjoyable at all. It's also really hard for me to find good walking shoes! A really good pair of shoes is so expensive now. I probably sound old, but I remember when you could get a decent pair of sneakers for $25 and they'd last for years. Anyway, if you live in a place with nice weather on most days, and nice, shady paths to walk (like in this video), you are very blessed. I'll walk again in the fall when the horrible summer heat lets up, and I can drive to some state forest land about 15 minutes away.

I enjoyed this episode. I've walked for over 30 years. When I was still working, I'd walk at lunch. Now that I'm retired, I like to spend 3 or 4 hours outside every day. One of the things that keeps me out walking is listening to audiobooks and podcasts. When I am walking thru my neighborhood, I can sit in the shade for as long as I want. If I am hiking, my walks are generally longer, and more strenuous. For me, the podcasts and audiobooks keep me going. I have hours every day to listen to them every day.

  • @chevy320

    Hi there.
Just found your channel and after watching a video or two decided to subscribe.
I was a big walker for years, loved it, enjoyed no company, didn't cost anything lost 10kg in 3 months from just walking every day. Didn't change my diet.
A short walk for me was usually 5klms one way 5klms back to home. It's easier than people think.
My usual walk was always min of 20klms which I did every second day. Some times longer on weekends. 46klms was my longest in one day, took just over 6 hours with 4 stops for no longer than 3 minutes each, water and a few bananas to keep me going.
Unfortunately I just stopped for some reason, I have no idea why.
I'm keen to get back into it but just had major back surgery so that is holding me back atm.
Sitting around doing very little exercise and snacking has stacked on the kilos, so as soon as I'm able enough to walk further than 50 metres up the road, I'll be hitting the tracks.
Everyone should be walking when they can, clears the mind ,lose weight and feel and look great.
Thanks for your videos, glad I stumbled across them.

67 year old Aussie here. Recently retired, so no excuses for NOT walking.
I'm mainly sticking to my local area and have been taking along a plastic bag, picking up a bit of litter/rubbish I see along the way.
It's a great way to get more fit AND tidy up the neighbourhood at the same time!

I just found you and watched your video! I am 70 1/2!! I have always been athletic and I Walk Daily for one hour and just relocated to a new town in South Carolina and bought a new home. I absolutely love the shock on people's face when I tell them my age! I spend a lot of time studying diet and how it heals our body. I am 5' 5" and weigh 95 lbs. I hear women talking about how their metabolism changes and that is why they are gaining weight. I have kept the same weight since High School, except now I keep to under 100 lbs. I do not eat much meat or chicken. Some humid mornings the walk gets really hard when I have an ache in my glute.
