genious with the control settings for different midi setups. i did setup 8 scenes with different midi channels on my nanokeys studio which seems cool also as workaround but this ones more easy though!

Thanks for the video! Insightful. I can share a tip too. You don’t need to have Morningstar/Midi profile switch. What I do on my midi keyboard, I create a custom mapping for pads - they send midi over a different midi channel. Then in loopy I add keyboard twice. One is listening to a default midi channel, another listening to the dedicated pads midi channel. Then I can play synth and drums from one keyboard without switching. I hope this helps!

Wow, this was a lot of information and at some point really presented very fast - so to a totally newbie as me a little bit confusion. But I think this is a video that has to be watched several times and it really gave a big overview. I must say that the way Loopy Pro works really is very straightforward. If you are familiar with the musical terms of what you want to do it is not that complicated. Thank you very much for your time and effort.
Omg, great video. Full of little nuggets. Setting the effects to zero instead of turning off is huge. I'm trying to have my guitar tone change for overlaying leads as harmonies...and it's been hella clunky. Can't wait to implement this!

I’ve ended up at a very similar setup as you’re showing here through lots of research, trial and error and piecing together a lot of knowledge bits from different people and sources, but seeing this video a year ago would have saved me so much time! 😂 Anyhow… thanks for taking the time for putting this together. Wow! Ask and you shall receive lol! 😊 Thanks for this. It really does demystify some of your process and fill in some holes in my knowledge. I like how you were sure to explain alternatives as well. It was also good to see how you dialed into the settings you liked and didn't go overboard with customizable dials and sliders, which I tend to do at first. Sometimes that's cool, but once you are set with what you like, it's cool to have it all streamlined, and this really helps me to remember that. The hardest thing about Loopy is not getting bogged down with excessive effects and complicating things to the point of stagnation. You mentioned your different audio interfaces in the beginning. Are there any specific down sides to the Zoom? I was reading about JFET for guitar inputs and am curious how important you think that is. Guitar is a huge part of what I'm trying to incorporate into my loops. Or anything else you have to add about interfaces could be helpful before I drop the ball on one. I'm currently using my guitar through a Spark amp which is also my output, so it is pretty limited, but I eventually want to add vocals and record percussion etc. Anyway... thanks again for all of this already! You rock!
My pleasure, I'm so glad it's helpful!! I don't hear, see or feel any downsides to the Zoom U-44. At home I use Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 because I need more than two inputs, but the Zoom U-44 has been amazing on the road. I'm not a guitar player so I can't give you proper advice on that, but I use my electric ukulele with both interfaces and it sounds fantastic to me.

I had an ipad 9 and felt it limited when you load a bunch of synths and Fx. But i must say that in the case of live looping audio mainly from mic it is more than enough. I went for the M1 Pro
Hi, thank you for the feedback, I'll definitely take that into consideration for my next tutorial! (Which is hopefully coming very soon...) I do experience a few limitations with the 9th generation, if you have the money I'd recommend getting the best iPad you can, it will be a good investment. The biggest limitation is the memory (I only have 64gb), but I also can't use all the plugins in the world all at the same time and I do have to think twice sometimes before putting on a heavy plugin (but I do use a lot of plugins!) I've been able to play live shows with really good sound using really good plugins and haven't had issues. But of course it'd be even more amazing with a faster iPad and more storage.

A question. As new songs come and go, your loopy pro design evolves. It's a lot of work to make a new one each time. Is there a generic template emerging for you from which you evolve each new project? Thank you again for the help you give us and for your art.
It is a lot of work each time but it's also really fun because of the amazing flexibility. I never start from scratch, I have a template, but I do always change, add and subtract a lot from it as I'm developing each song.

Yes, but there are usually a few areas for improvisation, whether it's the rhythmic parts, or the live playing before I record a loop, etc... I have one template for live shows that's made for improvisation where there are no complex follow actions, just a bunch of loops, one shots and instruments.

Thanks for watching! I haven't had too many issues with latency. Are you struggling with it? I did have more noticeable latency around a year ago and I tried playing around with the system settings in Loopy and in my interface (it was with the Focusrite Scarlett), such as buffer duration, sample rate and file format, and it helped. Right now my settings in Loopy are: Sample Rate 48, Buffer Duration 128, File Format 24. I don't have a powerful iPad so I do prefer barely noticeable latency over cpu wreckage... If I tried super low buffer duration my iPad wouldn't be able to handle it. I hope that helps 🙌
Wow Incredible! I have mostly use Loopy HD but when Michael launched Loopy Pro I jumped. Sadly it sits on my iPad&iPhone unused,until I saw your video and it blew my mind open to the possibilities of live applications. When I first saw one of Inbar’s loopy pro videos, I was also quite frustrated, not being able to keep up as there is so much content, especially when you’re new to looping but after a few months of looking at tutorials and reading the manual I can come back to her video content and appreciate just how much you can learn I still only catch half of it but she is giving us a good deal more in depth detail now and not skipping off on a tangent as so many others do. I am still trying to complete my template and would like to know if anyone can tell me with all these latest loopy 1.1.17 updates of couple of weeks ago if we still have to use bindings or can we just use midi learn to create bindings? you see I am not sure if bindings And midi learn do the same thing as I seem to have got my pedals working with just midi learn 🤔not sure if I’m doing that right. Possibly a good way to learn how to make a template is to have a template that’s already been made and kind of backwards work it to find what settings are under the hood Unfortunately, most of the templates included in loopy pro don’t have many widgets buttons etc etc to give us a good idea of how to set them up So any templates available would be appreciated 😊😊 There are so many combinations of how the clip settings can be configured to suit your particular style and we sometimes don’t want some of the default settings that automatically push you to 4/4 ,, I use odd time signatures and also can not record on the upstroke preferring to trigger loops on the downstroke fortunately that is an option in clip settings/ under gestures wow took me a while to figure that out, Hope it helps someone who like me is a percussion style player who is trained in the art of accurately hitting things to create music and don’t have sweaty hands when they play especially in February 🥶

I go in detail about a lot of widgets in my tutorial so I hope that's helpful. Midi bind is a great short-cut!! Sometimes for my use cases I need to tweak settings and that requires going into the Program Control settings, but whenever you can only use midi-bind that's fantastic, it's basically the same thing but with a short-cut. Just make sure the settings are what you need them to be (right control profile, play/stop/toggle, etc..) I'm not sure what you mean by upstroke or downstroke, like onbeat and offbeat? But sounds like you figured it out 👍 Keep enjoying your Loopy journey :)

Hello, thx for your videos. Your performances are awesome and your tutorials helped me a lot. But I have a problem with my midi commander. It’s a mellow audio but it seems to only be working the midi out line and not with the usb, which means I can send midi messages to loopy but not receive some pc commands from loopy since it only has a midi out ! Would you have any idea of how to fix this? Thx in advance and have a great day
Hi, thanks for writing. Glad it's helpful. I don't know about your specific midi pedal. Have you tried changing usb cable, changing the adapter, the hub? Sometimes it's one of those things that gets in the middle
ps I am still debating the Zoom products - for portabtlity - against the new arturia range minifuse 4 - which will give me 4 outputs -(as you recommend ) plus usb C and usb hub and works with ipad - zoom still out in front re portability . any thoughts on arturia?
I don't have links but I'll write the names for you. Scarlett should work! The issue might be with a cable, did you check? Scarlett is class-compliant, at home I use the Scarlett 18i8 and it works great with my iPad. Zoom U-44 is my travel interface, it's fantastic. Morningstar MC6 is the footswitch, it's also fantastic :)
can loopy pro receive midi clock and audio from an external synth? I was thinking about using it for looping synth parts during a jam but not having it as the centre of my setup, does that make sense?
hey! i still don't understand how you manage record drums independent of each other do you have 3 Koala (first for kicks, second for snares, third for hats)?
Hi! I'm not using Koala for my drums, I'm using samples that I import into Loopy Pro (I click on a one-shot and on the top right corner there's an import option, then I select the specific sample I want from my files). Then, I make each one-shot a different color (let's say brown, white, green) and in the mixer I route those colors INTO other colors (let's say purple, pink and yellow) by adding destinations. I show this in one of my tutorials! Now I'm able to play each drum sample separately and also record them separately, so that I can treat each one with different EQ and effects. I hope that makes sense :)

I have a basic iPad with 64gb on it. It's enough for live sessions, I have quite a lot of apps and projects and it's fine. However, I like to make a lot of videos on mine and that's when I really struggle and constantly have to battle my storage space... So I would definitely recommend getting as much storage as possible if you can afford it.
Hello can you help? I was on the cusp of buying an audio interface. Have iPad and loopy pro. I use Ableton on a windows pc. I have a small btu important question and I’d be grateful for your views and help. My workflow would be easier if I could transfer wav files to the correct loopy pro folder on the iPad . Is there a way of doing this without using iTunes or resorting to purchasing an interface like the Iconnect 4c which allows two usb c devices to be connected simultaneously. ? At present I am emailing small wav files from Ableton live on the PC to my iPad and loading them one by one onto loopy pro … from individual emails. it’s long and tedious and is limited by file size. . Do you have any experience of getting audio data from windows pc to iPad ? If this can be overcome then I don’t need such an expensive US sourced audio Interface and could instead buy the zoom you use … for example.
I use a Macbook and not a PC so I don't exactly know. But I would upload these files to Google Drive instead of emailing. It would still take a long time but it will already be organized in one folder and you can upload them to Google Drive, go to sleep, and they'll be uploaded in the morning, instead of sending them separately. @@inbar.heyman You know - that does help. Food for thought. . I am thinking a swtich to macbook and iphone might be a better bet . Trying to work across paltforms is proving to be a huge challenge. Meanwhile I will try the Google drive route - which I was avoiding due to a poor connection - This has improved recently - so might be a good workaround . - so Thank you - I was not keen on switching to IOS totally but Loopy Pro is so amazing that it might be worth it - long term. There is no other app on the market that would convince me to do so - but this one - is qualitatively different and so flexible . cheers
My usb hub is powered, but I actually almost never plug it in because my iPad is plugged in and it supplies the power. But I think it's good to have that option just in case!
You can definitely create music without an audio interface if you're just using it at home, but you should definitely have headphones (otherwise you'll have a hard time recording yourself).
Not sure if i missed it, but which iPad are you using? I am just about to build something like this but wonder how nmuch my iPad 6 can handle. May have to update but should run just the loopers at least?
I'm using a basic 9th generation iPad. It was working great until recently, I don't know why lately it's struggling a bit, maybe it's just the heat... If you're not planning on using heavy effects then you should be fine with a 6th generation.

I don't hear, see or feel any downsides to the Zoom U-44. At home I use Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 because I need more than two inputs, but the Zoom U-44 has been amazing on the road.
I'm not a guitar player so I can't give you proper advice on that, but I use my electric ukulele with both interfaces and it sounds fantastic to me.

Feedback: I don't know if your audio routing has some technical challenges, but I would have loved to hear the examples you were showing and talking us through.
Also, do you think the iPad 9th generation is enough for this kind of work? Do you experience some overload issues or limitations while producing music on the 9th gen iPad?
I had an ipad 9 and felt it limited when you load a bunch of synths and Fx. But i must say that in the case of live looping audio mainly from mic it is more than enough. I went for the M1 Pro

I do experience a few limitations with the 9th generation, if you have the money I'd recommend getting the best iPad you can, it will be a good investment. The biggest limitation is the memory (I only have 64gb), but I also can't use all the plugins in the world all at the same time and I do have to think twice sometimes before putting on a heavy plugin (but I do use a lot of plugins!)
I've been able to play live shows with really good sound using really good plugins and haven't had issues. But of course it'd be even more amazing with a faster iPad and more storage.

A question. As new songs come and go, your loopy pro design evolves. It's a lot of work to make a new one each time. Is there a generic template emerging for you from which you evolve each new project? Thank you again for the help you give us and for your art.

It is a lot of work each time but it's also really fun because of the amazing flexibility. I never start from scratch, I have a template, but I do always change, add and subtract a lot from it as I'm developing each song.

Yes, but there are usually a few areas for improvisation, whether it's the rhythmic parts, or the live playing before I record a loop, etc...
I have one template for live shows that's made for improvisation where there are no complex follow actions, just a bunch of loops, one shots and instruments.

I haven't had too many issues with latency. Are you struggling with it? I did have more noticeable latency around a year ago and I tried playing around with the system settings in Loopy and in my interface (it was with the Focusrite Scarlett), such as buffer duration, sample rate and file format, and it helped. Right now my settings in Loopy are: Sample Rate 48, Buffer Duration 128, File Format 24. I don't have a powerful iPad so I do prefer barely noticeable latency over cpu wreckage... If I tried super low buffer duration my iPad wouldn't be able to handle it.

Wow Incredible! I have mostly use Loopy HD but when Michael launched Loopy Pro I jumped. Sadly it sits on my iPad&iPhone unused,until I saw your video and it blew my mind open to the possibilities of live applications. When I first saw one of Inbar’s loopy pro videos, I was also quite frustrated, not being able to keep up as there is so much content, especially when you’re new to looping but after a few months of looking at tutorials and reading the manual I can come back to her video content and appreciate just how much you can learn
I still only catch half of it but she is giving us a good deal more in depth detail now and not skipping off on a tangent as so many others do.
I am still trying to complete my template and would like to know if anyone can tell me with all these latest loopy 1.1.17 updates of couple of weeks ago if we still have to use bindings or can we just use midi learn to create bindings? you see I am not sure if bindings And midi learn do the same thing as I seem to have got my pedals working with just midi learn 🤔not sure if I’m doing that right.
Possibly a good way to learn how to make a template is to have a template that’s already been made and kind of backwards work it to find what settings are under the hood
Unfortunately, most of the templates included in loopy pro don’t have many widgets buttons etc etc to give us a good idea of how to set them up
So any templates available would be appreciated 😊😊
There are so many combinations of how the clip settings can be configured to suit your particular style and we sometimes don’t want some of the default settings that automatically push you to 4/4 ,, I use odd time signatures and also can not record on the upstroke preferring to trigger loops on the downstroke fortunately that is an option in clip settings/ under gestures wow took me a while to figure that out,
Hope it helps someone who like me is a percussion style player who is trained in the art of accurately hitting things to create music and don’t have sweaty hands when they play especially in February 🥶

Midi bind is a great short-cut!! Sometimes for my use cases I need to tweak settings and that requires going into the Program Control settings, but whenever you can only use midi-bind that's fantastic, it's basically the same thing but with a short-cut. Just make sure the settings are what you need them to be (right control profile, play/stop/toggle, etc..)
I'm not sure what you mean by upstroke or downstroke, like onbeat and offbeat? But sounds like you figured it out 👍

It’s a mellow audio but it seems to only be working the midi out line and not with the usb, which means I can send midi messages to loopy but not receive some pc commands from loopy since it only has a midi out ! I don't know about your specific midi pedal. Have you tried changing usb cable, changing the adapter, the hub? Sometimes it's one of those things that gets in the middle
ps I am still debating the Zoom products - for portabtlity - against the new arturia range minifuse 4 - which will give me 4 outputs -(as you recommend ) plus usb C and usb hub and works with ipad - zoom still out in front re portability . any thoughts on arturia?
I don't know anything about the arturia so I can't help you with that... I can only say the Zoom U44 is fantastic.
Can you share links to the interface and footswitch? My Scarlett 2i2 doesn't work with my iPad.
I don't have links but I'll write the names for you. Scarlett should work! The issue might be with a cable, did you check? Scarlett is class-compliant, at home I use the Scarlett 18i8 and it works great with my iPad.
Zoom U-44 is my travel interface, it's fantastic.
Morningstar MC6 is the footswitch, it's also fantastic :)

Yes!! I don't personally do it so can't speak from experience, but I know that it is definitely a feature.

Hi!
I'm not using Koala for my drums, I'm using samples that I import into Loopy Pro (I click on a one-shot and on the top right corner there's an import option, then I select the specific sample I want from my files).
Then, I make each one-shot a different color (let's say brown, white, green) and in the mixer I route those colors INTO other colors (let's say purple, pink and yellow) by adding destinations. I show this in one of my tutorials!
Now I'm able to play each drum sample separately and also record them separately, so that I can treat each one with different EQ and effects.
I hope that makes sense :)

I have a basic iPad with 64gb on it. It's enough for live sessions, I have quite a lot of apps and projects and it's fine. However, I like to make a lot of videos on mine and that's when I really struggle and constantly have to battle my storage space... So I would definitely recommend getting as much storage as possible if you can afford it.

Hello can you help? I was on the cusp of buying an audio interface. Have iPad and loopy pro. I use Ableton on a windows pc. I have a small btu important question and I’d be grateful for your views and help. My workflow would be easier if I could transfer wav files to the correct loopy pro folder on the iPad . Is there a way of doing this without using iTunes or resorting to purchasing an interface like the Iconnect 4c which allows two usb c devices to be connected simultaneously. ? At present I am emailing small wav files from Ableton live on the PC to my iPad and loading them one by one onto loopy pro … from individual emails. it’s long and tedious and is limited by file size. . Do you have any experience of getting audio data from windows pc to iPad ? If this can be overcome then I don’t need such an expensive US sourced audio Interface and could instead buy the zoom you use … for example.
I use a Macbook and not a PC so I don't exactly know. But I would upload these files to Google Drive instead of emailing. It would still take a long time but it will already be organized in one folder and you can upload them to Google Drive, go to sleep, and they'll be uploaded in the morning, instead of sending them separately.

Meanwhile I will try the Google drive route - which I was avoiding due to a poor connection - This has improved recently - so might be a good workaround . - so Thank you - I was not keen on switching to IOS totally but Loopy Pro is so amazing that it might be worth it - long term. There is no other app on the market that would convince me to do so - but this one - is qualitatively different and so flexible . cheers
how is yoru midi hub powered ? Bus or own supply?
My usb hub is powered, but I actually almost never plug it in because my iPad is plugged in and it supplies the power. But I think it's good to have that option just in case!
So is an audio interface required or can you just make music directly to the iPad?
You can definitely create music without an audio interface if you're just using it at home, but you should definitely have headphones (otherwise you'll have a hard time recording yourself).

Not sure if i missed it, but which iPad are you using? I am just about to build something like this but wonder how nmuch my iPad 6 can handle. May have to update but should run just the loopers at least?
I'm using a basic 9th generation iPad. It was working great until recently, I don't know why lately it's struggling a bit, maybe it's just the heat... If you're not planning on using heavy effects then you should be fine with a 6th generation.
