Over 50 years ago I had the privilege of working in the Harvard Law School Library during my law student years. I want to thank the current librarians for their hospitality when I visited a few years ago.
I'm from a small town in South Africa, and a lot of people don't care for libraries. There isn't a library for miles, It sucks big time because I'm someone who likes peace and quite. (Something rather rare here...) So people who do have something like a library to go to: BE GRATEFUL
Show this to students. If someone had shown this to me as a teen in the late 80s it would have blown my mind. There comes a point when Harvard and schools of this calibre become nothing more than a vague concept of what "success" looks like. A video like this makes it seem real, and the collection is amazing.
I will come back to this comment after 3 years and write another one that says I got into Harvard Law School. I graduate in few months with a bachelor in engineering, but I have a big thing for corporate law AND Harvard. And i am coming.
I hope you ladies, faculty and staff, and students are doing well and staying safe from the corona-virus. In addition, with the social distances and the colleges and universities across the United States are shut down for on campus classes, thank so you for taking the time to share the idea virtual tour of the Harvard Law school library. Two years ago, I visited your legal institution, and I didn’t want to live because it has always been my dream to visit and experience the beautiful environment. What can I say, Harvard Law School is a beautiful campus! Although the in person experience is much better as the virtual version, and that is only because of the beauty of the Massachusetts environment, the information you ladies shared about the massive information that the students of Harvard Law School has access too inspires to want to be apart of the Harvard Law School environment even more. At the moment, I am picturing myself setting in the library with a study group conversing about our different perspective of the elements of the laws and different situations of every cases based on the subject. Please keep sharing more videos. And one day, I will revisit. God bless!
Cant wait to revisit Langdell Hall, hopefully this time as a Harvard LLM student. Visited the Campus and worked on my application's material back in September. Late March decisions cant come soon enough!
Besides saying this video was overdue I would chime in and say that 11,000 feet is a little bit of wonky perhaps and adding the word linear or shelves would help people understand what you're talking about but even then it's hard to picture that. It sounds though that that's in the building when you donate your life's work you're going to be able to find some space among the 11,000 feet for a while at least so that people don't have to wait a day to go through the papers. That's a real comfort. I like the lighting a lot I like you guys pointing out that at 3 a.m. there's a well-lit room at Harvard for people to get work done when necessary. I think that part of what people need to appreciate about better schools is that the staff respects the students. For many students that are comparable to the students at Harvard but going to other facilities The Experience would be very different in terms of being respected just for being a student. This is my memory of what it's like to be a student at a school like this. On the one hand you're taken for granted sure by your fellow students and by faculty but when it comes to librarians Etc , the library voices that are delightfully heard being used in this video because it's literally being filmed in the library while people are there apparently, just hints about what it's not arrogant , no need to expect regard, but that it's always there. Some of my friends mocked me when I would disposed when if I had a schedule conflict and two great events were occurring simultaneously it would be the room the venue itself that would often break the tie. With no chance of being disappointed by the event it's not that you're guaranteed to still enjoy it even in that circumstance but these high-ceiling rooms have to be experienced. Unfortunately I have not much experience with off-site storage comparable to yours. I do respect you have kept it, not merely tried to digitize it. The future of your school and your library will surprise many people. I think great change is afoot at at society as the very fast networks that we are finally putting to a hint of their potential use will only be double double downed down upon. I personally aspire to leaders who have neither gone to just a few schools nor the extreme opposite. The intended audience of this video was widened and some of the commenters observe that decision without sufficient appreciation. Although I'm not a 1 L this video have been wasted if only viewable by those Future Leaders of our world. Many of the students this video is targeted to come from Humble families. This may be the first time they will experience what it's like to work in a setting that has been optimized. The significant number of cubicles that are on a first-come first-serve basis for any student on campus are going to be I think given the publication of this video in shorter Supply then ever. Such an environment allows you to focus like none other. When it is cold outside, when the roof is high above you but the air is clean and provides no distraction all that you have done to prepare for that moment helps. We should all aspire to no more then such moments being as routine as possible. When somebody has invested themselves into such development you can tell and it's where I Bank everything.
Beautiful Library. I'd recommend Harvard Law Students to also visit the Supreme Court of Victoria library, here in Australia. It is one of a kind and my favourite. Unfortunately, it isn't a venue of choice for a clown mediocre Supreme Court Judge by the name Mark Wienberg to launch a book. Instead, he prefers La Trobe University's Melbourne city campus - - No newspaper - No magazine - No law Journal - No books - Not even a university course brochure This is the standard of Judicature/Dept of education here in the State of Victoria.
Do we have any constitutional rights lawyers left that care about the rights of We the People? Our politicians, media and corporations have proven beyond any doubt they cannot and will not negotiate the Constitution of the United States in good faith. It is 2020 and we are allowing civilization to collapse knowing all we do about history and yet here we are rinsing and repeating?! No! We can do better than this and we know it! What kind of world do we want to be responsible for? You are the most educated upon the planet and what have you accomplished to actually make the world a better place?
Trying to picture Harvey Specter here
Omg, same! XD
Me trying to picture scottie though
Harvey Specter always wearing a sweater

What a Dream. I wish I could have been one of the lucky honored students to breath the air in Harvard...

Recently went into a rabbit hole of looking at university libraries. They're so beautiful.
Quarantine really has me watching everything on UA-cam. It’s 3am how did I get here?
🤣🤣🤣
You're gonna be a lawyer.
I'm a school librarian and I'm fascinated by your library. It's a dream! Hermosa!
I like how they had coffee in the library
isnt that normal?
@@ser6044 no. Most universities and law schools don't provide free refreshments. It's generally incumbent on students themselves to provide their own.
@@JasonGafar Oh interesting, in Turkiye it’s common actually. Thanks for the information
how did i end up in here? i have no intentions of going to law school or even going to harvard

I wish our library was available 24×7 too 🥺..... Harvard students.... Make sure to make good use of this opportunity.
This is the best place for a library. I'm definitely going here.
Civilized. Learned. The best minds.
The pinnacle of the English legal tradition.
We'll surely meet dear Harvard . Just wait for six more years and we'll have an awesome time here in this library. Hopefully
I'm not into law but reading is my favorite part I wish to be there and read books and many other things.
I swear this books are hidden treasure

Nice and informative video. HLS see you in a few years
Elegant & Classy!!!!
nice and all, but the best we can all do rn is to use it as a zoom background
Are the libraries open for public at any point in time?
Unlikely. Most university libraries, especially in states under a stay-at-home order or something similar, are closed.
@@perennialrose4096 I understand the issue that those orders pose, but I meant before and after their issuing.
Amazing and very interesting, but i realize this dream is so high for me.

Nice Video, Best information for international students
Manifesting to be here one day✨
