Question, how can one get a judge to sign for their love one to go to a state mental hospital who isn’t a criminal? They have done the baker act and the judge has done the involuntary thing but the issue is they continue to call us and the person does not meet a law enforcement baker act but they def need help. The family wants the person to get long term care and have the judge mandate it… how would they go about doing that or is that even a thing. Are there hospitals for long term involuntary treatment that is not for a “criminal” etc.

Good question! So in order for one to be involuntary committed, they’d have to be deemed ITP or NGI which ultimately means they’d have to have committed a crime which is unfortunate. We definitely need more mental health institutions for the community. The Marchman Act may be the best solution in cases like this, it provides both voluntary and involuntary treatment.

@@brenikab yea the mom already did that. That’s what we continue to have her do. Then we have to go out there and fight this dude just to get him in the car because at that point we have orders from a judge and he has no choice in the matter.
I just didn’t know if there was a way she could get him help long term instead of the dance we continue to do with this family.
It is def sad there is not more help for someone unless they commit a crime which you will find people will do just to get the help they know they need but can’t afford.

@@lakieshalewis3172 Now I'm wondering what's taking place in the between the time you guys pick him up and him being treated? Like where's the ball dropping that's causing this revolving cycle? Outpatient programs could be helpful as well but yes! it's really sad that most people will risk going jail for simple necessities like 3 free meals, medical care, dental care, and mental health care.

@@brenikab and that’s my question 🤣🤣🤣. Mom keeps calling us and we go through our standard questions. He doesn’t meet for us to baker act him so she goes to the judge. He baker acts him and after a week or two he is back home dealing with this same craziness. There has to be another away! Like for this mom and her son this can’t be life. Now granted he won’t take his meds bc as usual he feels they are meds to control him and we are all in a cult 🤣🤣🤣 being controlled. (A whole different story).
At the end of the day, I can’t say who is dropping the ball because I’m sure he is taking his meds in the facility which is why they release him but once out NOBODY can make him take what he doesn’t want too. So what is this mom’s options… sadly it seems as though there are none.

@@lakieshalewis3172 Now I will say when baker acted at some point the question is asked, do you want to harm yourself or others? and if the answer is no sadly that's enough reasons to release someone which may be another factor in why this is a revolving cycle. Mom may need to look into rtf's or alf's that can help assist with his medical needs. Meridian may also be a great place to start as they offer a ton of different programs and can help link him to other services.

@@brenikab Im with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). Currently a Regional Training Specialist. So I definitely feel you when you talked about working with a population that is so often judged, overlooked, and disgarded.
while I love it, like you, I’m still finding my niche. So may be advancing within the agency if God be willing. Had an interview last week.

You all are amazing and yes I definitely feel like I’ve found my niche, wishing the same for you girly 🥰🥰 thanks for the support!

@@shannon8715 I'd recommend focusing on and mastering one field at a time. A forensic background is very specific but could give you a few transferrable skills that may be useful in the area of real estate.
