Very good instruction video. As a 30 year retired from VW mechanics, I appreciate your presentation very much. You made the fairly scary process seem so less complicated and I did it, thanks.

Thank You! Excellent video and tutorial. I just completed the repair and want to add a couple of comments for other, who like me, might have limited experience. 1- if you use the vacuum tool to prime the injector pump the motor should start with minimal cranking. 2- if it doesn't start, try shifting the adjustable body assembly several increments (1/8" or less) to the right or left and re-try starting. In my case, even though I had scribed marks showing the position of the original assembly and reassembled according, the motor would not initially start. By playing with the adjustment to the right/left I was able to start the engine and complete the final calibration. Again, Thank You for an Excellent Video!

Thanks for posting this! Super clear and helpful. Just completed the repair, no problems. For those who are looking for a socket for the anti-tamper bolt, you can take use a spare 9/32 socket and grind 3 of the surfaces a bit with a dremel tool - works great.

Thanks for the tip about grinding a socket to use for the anti-tamper bolt. I just did that and it worked fine. I will add a couple of points... Another fellow mentioned using a 7 mm socket and that is what I used. So 9/32 inch is slightly larger than 7 mm (7.14 mm), so a 7 mm should provide a slightly tighter fit and hopefully be less likely to strip the head. Second, I would mention that I used a 6 point socket. Grind every other one of the 6 flat surfaces until they become concave. I used about a 5/32 to 3/16 inch diameter chain saw sharpening abrasive bit. I did not have to remove too much material from each flat.

I ended up getting Vag Com & doing this the way that you showed. The only detail that I didn't see you cover was the fuel temperature. The Injected Quantity number moves as the fuel temperature rises. It appears that the final IQ value needs to be set after the temperature is in it's specified range. Thank you for posting. Your video made my job much faster & easier. It was very helpful.

I just did this service today on a 2002 VW Golf. As you will notice in the video, adjusting towards the passenger side will increase quantity (richer) and toward the driver side will decrease quantity (leaner). It is VERY sensitive to adjustments. If the quantity is too lean the engine will run very poorly, so it is better to err on the rich side. As stated in a previous comment, you should wait until the engine is within the correct temperature range before finalizing your adjustments as readings will be different cold vs. hot. Excellent video.

I forgot to add... the pump may be difficult to prime especially if you replace the fuel filter prior to servicing the pump. It may help to crank the engine while priming with the vacuum. I made my own special socket by filing down three of the points on a six-point 9/32" 1/4"-drive socket. It was not a perfect fit but it worked well and did not damage the fastener.

Thank you so much for this video. Your explanation was spot on perfect. I saw another video on this subject, which gave me the confidence to do the job. I have a 2003 Golf TDI, and my fuel leak was in the exact same place as yours. I got the Bosch kit on Amazon for $19 incl shipping. Just installed it. I did not prime the pump though, but the car did start. With mild acceleration, it runs smooth. At idle, it pops and runs rough. I do not have a Vag-Com, but will look for one now. Thanks to your video, I will re-do the job and do it your way. Thanks again.

Thank You My Friend ! This is very helpful. Many owners are paying $2000 to have their injection pumps " rebuilt" when they leak.. and I bet they are getting nothing more than this simple repair ! These pumps do NOT need rebuilding at 100 or 200 thousand miles. But like yours, the seals do go bad, especially with bio-diesel !

Thank you for posting. This was very informative. I have the same leak. I have a replacement gasket, but I don't have the computer hookup to adjust the QA after reassembly of the pump. I was thinking that if I reamed a couple of small dowel pin holes between the two parts, I would be able to get the alignment back exactly where it was, but I don't know if there is enough thickness in the aluminum housing to do that without causing a problem. I may need to buy the software & connection if I can't figure out how to get perfectly the same alignment.

My fuel pump is leaking but i'm not going to replace the gaskets myself but i gave it to a specialist, my concern is because i have remaped the car's ecu like 5 years ago and never gave me any trouble , so my question is by doing this repair does the remap will be effected badly or there will be any changes like poor performance or bad fuel economy or even more noise after the repair is done since at the final stage of this video you connect to the vag com to set the car's timing, i like the way my car works and performes with the remap i just don't want the fuel leak ,thanks and good video

VW GOLF PUMPS ARE THE SAME AS NISSAN TERRANO To all readers changing top seals on a Nissan Terrano II 2.7 diesel TDI using Bosch VE Covec pump with a electronic metering block/ Quantity adjuster as Weblinger stated.
With a new starter installed cracking speed was back to normal. Very important to have a good starter as excessive cracking in my case was required . After many attempts to start the car it started and stopped. I loosened two of the injector lines 3 and 4 on the top side Inter cooler needs to be removed for bleeding lines and the car started and stopped again . I loosened the quantity adjuster block and moved it away from the front gear/rotor side and the car started running poorly but continued to run. Once the injectors were locked off the car continued to run poorly for about 3 mins and then started to run as normal . After warming up the engine and taking it for a drive the car ran nice and idles perfect. It is lacking some power. A drive behind driver took note of the smoke when driven between !st 2nd and 3rd up to 3000 rpm and smoke was seen. A slight readjustment to the front gear/rotor side hopefully will increase the power back to normal.......... Now for contamination when changing the top seals most videos show spotless pumps unfortunately Nissan Terrano II 1998 is not the easiest car to work on and I noticed some small contaminates did enter the pump which did not result in a pump failure Jiffs wipes should be placed inside the pump immediately after opening to stop dirt from entering the rotor and bottom of pump.
DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY OF THESE PROCESSES IF YOU ARE A NOVICE
AND ALWAYS HAVE A SECOND PERSON ON HAND

The only problem i see is that when adjusting the Injection quantity you had to wait until the operating temperature is reached. You adjusted the injection quantity while the temperature was 69*C - you had to wait to reach at least 83-4 and above (to allow for any error in the readings and be 100% sure that you're in the operating temperature range) and THEN adjust the injection quantity. Otherwise good tutorial.

you probably missed to insert that nub of the upper part into the merged metal wheel groove. like this the wheel is to much on the side and so its full throttle and you could even break or bend that nub and damage the whole thing.

I set the fuel injection rate to 3.0 to 3.2 this summer, so the temperatures outside were 25 to 30 degrees. Now that the temperatures are at - 5 degrees, that fuel IQ shows me 2.0 to 2.2. That means more fuel. Why, is that ok. So when temperatures are low, lower my IQ from 3.0 to 2.0 mg. Why.
