This is brilliant stuff just look at all those spotters these days are long gone but what great days they were. Ive recently found all these vids they are fantastic Brian
In that first shot of the 50 approaching Reading i used to sit in that exact spot where that young lad with the bag is sitting. Always remember watching westerns powering away from Reading from there. Great stuff.
Wonderful video, Brian. 1987 was a great year for me as I had just started going on moves like this by myself. New Street was always a favourite and this video certainly brings it all back to me. Many thanks for this. PS: @ 22:32 Nice rare footage of DEMU 210002 at Reading there. Not much of that about.
Thank you for these nostalgic videos, couldnt beat b new street in the 1980s, the best thing about these vids is that they are 24 minutes long usually, none of this 3 minute malarcy
Loads of spotters on the platforms. Doubt you'd see that now that all the stock looks the same. Plus the 117 dmus on Cross City, they were still going into the 90s until the route was electrified and we got the 323s. Great memories.
Agree with Mr Vulcan below. Was it a Saturday due to the numbers of Spotters? Current railway culture is as bland and insipid as a jug of gruel. A sign of the times really I suppose.
cor blimey, some amazing footage here, loved the scenes at New Street

Awesome footage, especially at Birmingham New Street
Brilliant movies. Bring back some great memories. Love the Marston Green footage. Thanks.
Great stuff! Reading, especially…I was there often as a young teen at that time. And the 210…can’t be many vids with that on!

Was that a class 205 DEMU coming into the west bay platforms? Now in the hands of class 166!
