The first step is to TAKE INVENTORY of your existing entry and source the perfect pieces that will store those items, keep them organized, and finally show off your style.
Would you rather… mirror in the entry? Or artwork?
Please tell me how to create entryway on a weird design house😄 My home is just straight into kitchen on the left and family room on the right..
So tired of mirrors, just had a client calling me from far. She had 3 mirrors to show me and I had to choose which is to go up above her entrance cabinet.
Art work
Julie is there a way I could send you a picture?
Artwork!
Mirror is a thing of the 90s ...very feminine, her designs are very feminine based
I got so many ideas from this. I love how you always show example after example as you talk through each point.
I love showing a variety of different styles so we all can feel inspired Fae! 👍🏻😊
I enjoyed this vid and your classy professional demeanor. Thank you beautiful Julie.🙏🏼👌🥰🌹
What a beautiful courtyard!
Thank you Francine, the single reason I bought this home. The courtyard did it for me 🥰
I await your videos with excitement as a novice interior decorator. I'm grateful. thank you much.

Awesome thank you for watching Nengi! 🙏🏻😊
Thanks for these tips. Our entryway wow factor is beautiful contrasting patterned tiles that aren't used anywhere in the house but served as our inspiration for the design style, very very happy with them.
This video is ideal since I'm moving. Every entryway of places I've lived has been awkward! I love your hacks. More please.
Awkward spaces make the perfect design opportunity Kathryn 🙌🏻
i just love the way you bring interior design closer to me- you make it so easy and explain it so clearly - you have helped me to design my room from scratch
That’s awesome 👏 thank you for watching!
You always have the best design tips, Julie! Thank you! In our entry way I have a piece of beautiful wall art of a metal tree that a dear dear friend gifted us when we first moved in to our home and every time we see it, it makes us so joyful and happy.
Aw I love that! Exactly how your entry should feel- inspired and inviting 😍
Love it. The little plant makes a huge change.

I love these tips and your videos! I don’t have a closet in my entryway so I placed a large jute basket there to store things like an umbrella, shopping bags and the shoes I wore for the day.
Baskets are the perfect solution to hide your junk in plain sight 🙌🏻
I’m glad you referred us to the awkward spaces one because I def have a weird walk into the house and you are in the living room
Yes! That’s a popular video, let me know if I did not cover your particular condition HR!
I totally agree about light in the entry. The best thing I have done at home was get a skylight/solar tube installed in a dark entry. It looks amazing and the whole house feels different.
My entry is flooded with light, the kitchen is desperate for a skylight Lynette! You’re giving me some inspo 😍
Thank you so much, this is a free idea that matters to me.

Hi Julie
Really like these shorts ! The two shelf storage unit right at the entry is key. There are more than keys to put there. Sunscreen bug spray sunglasses phone chargers gum tissues and baseball caps. I do this with a two shelf concealed cabinet and two slim open shelves one at the bottom and one at the top to hide all that stuff. A few Shoes go on that vinyl covered bottomed shelf. Yes this was a custom made shelf by an inexpensive cabinet company. It’s not solid wood. Opposite is a very slim 4 inch wide 2 /1/2 foot long umbrella stand. Water hog rug at the door. This is the back door most used. Coats go in the small mud room along with bags knapsacks and winter accessories. I had a carpenter build me 18 shoe cubbies below and above the other half on top 3 longer locker like openings for short coats hoodies and one of those lockers i had holes put in so it could be used for adjustable grommet holed shelving so I really only gave 2 lockers for coats. and theee 16 inch square cubbies on top of that. Also put outlets near these doors for charging all your stuff. I use up a larger share of those shoe cubbies. 😂this was key to keep everything for the family ready to go. It freed up the front door for good coats and other outerwear you needed for odd weather. But that front door closet also houses games vacuum camera gear etc. small houses need lots of creative thinkers. Seating check also. Mirrors. Nope. Vertical storage is good too. Hang up the keys or charging cords use nice hooks or nice open shelves and put bowls on them secured with museum putty so they don’t move when you grab the keys. Nice to have a good looking clock there. In old days that’s where the hall clocks or grand father clocks went. I have an old working spring turning ibm punch clock with time cards at the back door. The contractors love that one!! I do have a front entry which looks into the living room as soon as you enter so i use that room to create the vibe of the house. I do however place seasonal decor at the back door. Now there’s a pumpkin placemat there for Halloween. Sorry my post is longer than your video. 🙃 Thank you😊 for the tips. You really look great! See you next week! Margaret
My parents eschewed all my tips to place that ginormous grandfather’s clock in our entry 😂 it was always a mess! Haha
Hi Julie
I like the grandfather clock. I actually have two in the living room at opposite corners but the other one is a floor standing hall clock one of my neighbors gave me. When we were doing zoom calls people really liked to hear the chimes. They would laugh after hearing the second one go off. Oh you have two? Yep! It’s old world and meditative. Winding them is a reflective act. Not sure why people don’t want them. You stop noticing the chimes. Really not disruptive bc the chimes become part of your world. Margaret

Wow. So many wonderful ideas. Thank you for your dedication.
I love the idea of console table and mirror, I see how boring my front door is. just purchase a hall tree with bench. Will add rug and some flowers next to it.

This is a great video and good ideas thank so much for sharing with us❤🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for watching! 🩷
Great video, but could you do one on garage entryways we leave the large garage door open almost all day because I do work out there. I like the sunshine and wind and it’s difficult to get to our front door so everyone uses the garage door as an entrance right into the kitchen not much can be done there, so Hass to be in the garage. Thanks so much
Heidi
I love this topic as it’s so relevant. My childhood home was this way and it was so cluttered 🙈
Wow! There are a plethora of entryway ideas. I have taken snap photos of all the entryway that appear in your video. Thank you for sharing your tips and ideas. ❤❤

Just little tweaks here and there using the things you already own Bebe 🙌
Julieee💜💜💜 I dont have a "real entry way" but ill be back to watch!
Watch the entryways video in the awkward space series LT! You’ll see how others created a zone out of nothing, it’s inspiring 😍
I’m learning❤❤❤❤thnxxxx
Thank you for watching Omega 🙏🏻😊
Thanks for the fantastic ideas Julie. What do you do/how do you create an entry way when your “front door” leads directly into the kitchen or the living room with no break. (You open the door and you’re standing in the kitchen/ or the living room?). I’ve been struggling with this for years now!
Watch my entryway video in the awkward space series- I cover this exact condition Oyin 👍🏻😊
Love your work 😀💥💥
Thank you for watching Aaron! 😊🙏🏻
@@JulieKhuu u very much welcome 😀💥💥keep up with your Wonderful work
Very nice ideas👍👍
Thank you for watching Chitra 🙏🏻😊
We bought our house earlier this year and it's still so empty and so much to buy. I have been saving and getting inspiration for the entryway for months, but it's large and i wanted to add seating to one of the walls. Thank you fo4 this video because ypu showed that it can be done given the size of our entryway.
I have an entire entryways playlist if you need more inspiration! Check it out 👍☺️
Julie, oh my goodness you are so amazing!!!!!! I’ve been watching and listening to you for the entire build of my home, a year and a half now . I’ve learned so many wonderful things from you Thank you thank you thank you for all you do I so appreciate you. I was getting ready to find how to send a message to inquire about not wearing shoes in my home , then I start watching this video and you address that. I’ve always wanted to live in a space where shoes are not worn it would feel so much cleaner without them. My question is do you have little slippers for people to wear inside the home? finally moving in begins weekend it’s been such a long journey. I’m so happy to have found you at the beginning 🙏🏼❤️
Yes. It is becoming ever more common for people to not wear street shoes in the home. Wherever we lived apartments or homes we don’t wear street shoes inside. Disgusting street grime and poisonous deadly chemicals asbestos lead doo doo saliva etc. But older people need shoes for stability and protection so I let my parents wear theirs and workers wear booties over their shoes. You can also put runners down when workers come in.Take off your shoes when you are at home. You can wear slippers. But watch out for slippery bare wood stairs. I would carpet them. One fall on the slippery stairs by a shoeless socked visitor and you are on notice of a hazard.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your design journey Pamela! I actually leave washable slippers for guests by the front door and I also have a cache of socks that guests can keep. Check out my entryway makeover to see where I store them 😊
Booties are a must Margaret! I have ppl coming in and out of my house all the time 😆
@@youbetcha108 actually no, to the wearing of thick cushioned sneakers for older people. Older people have been misled by shoe companies & podiatrists. My husband & I switched to a completely flat shoe, without thick padding & it’s shaped like our feet. We no longer wear anything else because the stability, & connection to the ground was so much better. It takes getting used to because the muscles in your foot aren’t being used when you wear sneakers or traditional footwear. Xero shoes are what we are wearing, but they’re many other brands now. Our feet don’t hurt by the end of the day, as they previously did, and I feel much more stable and sure footed. My husband has a normal arch, & my feet are very flat. We were both amazed at how much better we felt in Xero shoes.
Awesome.
Thank you for watching 🙏😊
Moving into a 450 square foot apartment. Been watching all your videos I can. ❤️❤️how the family. Sending hugs and prayers
Thank you for watching! Catch the small space series if you haven’t already- 10 episodes jam packed with small space tips!
Thank you so much you have beautiful ideas! One QUESTION I have (I also like shoes 👠 off in my home so what kind of sign would be nice to have outside your door)
I don’t leave any signs, but seeing your shoes at the front door with a basket of house slippers or clean socks for guests should be enough 😊
I have a small entry area so 3 essentials that usually mention, I can't have them like storage, mirror and seating. I have lighting hanging down. But I have something attractive on the floor and few masks on the wall.
Seating can also be adjacent if you don’t have the space for it 👍
Great vlog Julie. Lots of practical advice as well as keeping the aesthetic and style in mind
That’s the intent Samta 🙌🏻
I have a small hall/entry way an at the moment the front door is dark on the inside I’m thinking it might be better painted light neutral the same as the walls either side thought it would make it lighter and look a bit bigger in that area ?
Very good ideas
Thanks for all the ideas .. all i now need is a house with an entry way .
You can carve one out even if you don’t have a huge space. Check out my video on awkward entryways for more inspiration!
Hi Julie, I loved the video. It is really helpful to design my entryway. I have the storage /console /shoe cabinet + seating + mirror but I am juggling between area rug or no rug. I purchased one runner area rug and I love it but it's slightly colorful printed having some colors in contrast to my boho decor like white vase and white book stack on the console /shoe cabinet. Do u think a colorful runner goes with this decor? , or should i get another one? Also rug moves and I need is to tape it to avoid tripping hazzard , Having small mat doenst help since people would remove shoes after stepping in. Let me know your thoughts. Looking forward for your advice!! :)
If this entry runner is neutral, it will invite the eyes to land beyond the space and into your home. Something to think about Khushboo 🤔
All beautiful ideas! Going to incorporate them soon!!! Thanks again for another awesome video Julie! My entryway is of decent size. Although, the bigger wall is not facing the main door, but it faces the hallway where all the bedrooms are. Not sure if I should be placing mirror on that wall if I want to follow Feng Shui/Vaastu (?)
Also, my entire foyer is tiled. Rest of the home is dark wood floor. Not sure if a rug would look nice on tiles or even stay put as I fear it might be slippery. Any suggestions?
I have tile in my foyer and laminate in the house- I don’t place a rug because it’s such a tight area. You have to determine what makes the most sense for your space
I love the ideas, it's my new house.
I am getting so many ideas from you.
Awesome! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻😊
❤️ U Juile beautiful ideas
Thank you for watching Sunita 🙏🏻😊
Got it all 😁
Woohoo 🙌
do you typically recommend lighter or darker wood flooring for single story homes?
Superb add on tips. Loved it. Please suggest a door mat for a house with a dog. I live in tropics.
Mine is from Overstock and does the job nicely
