This is the only video about entryways space solutions on UA-cam I watched from beginning to end.. Thanks Julie for sharing your precious knowledge with us. 🙏
I bought my first house out of emotion. for so long I tried to copy the previous owners decor. I had a hard time keeping it up, I finally realized that their style doesn’t fit my life style. I am learning to decor w kids, keeping a classy and elegant style and functional at the same time. Your videos have helped me so much to understand and learn more about myself. I’m so grateful for your channel. Thank you Julie
I like how you add real case studies for us regular people. Keep them coming! Can you do a video about styling an empty wall? I don't like to clutter the wall with tons of art or photos, but would love to learn how to minimally style a wall.
Yes same, I'm not one for gallery walls or art that draws a ton of attention but I have some super boring blank walls in my bathroom and such (that wont fit shelves because of a door and a mirror seems redundant)
Thanks for the video Julie! Perfect timing. I went “shopping” in my house and gathered a narrow 48” table, my grandfathers brass koi fish lamp, and a couple of ceramic pitchers and placed the table perpendicular to my front door. Everything is open concept and this made the perfect landing spot at my front door. I added a woven basket on the lower shelf. Thanks for explaining the concepts to keep it beautiful and simple.
I love all of your videos. I loved when you went over designs that you completed in the past and what you would do different today. I have never heard a designer reflect on past designs this way. I found it so refreshing ! Thank you for all the great inspiration!

At this video's end, I was impressed with your forthright critique of your own previous work, bringing into the conversation how we evolve and grow in our design sensibilities over time; and, you let us know that you know what it is to feel overwhelmed and discouraged on design projects at times. I just love your approach to it all and think the world of you. Thank you for your videos. I've only begun to scratch the surface of the innumerous videos and topical series! This was interesting. I would like to see another video like this for people that live in colder climates with boots and coats. It was clear that those who had hooks above art on the wall live in warmer climates. i did get some ideas to incorporate.
I use the entry as a functional space for the bare minimum Kimmy. Coats and shoes then get relegated to hall closets, garages, a guest room where more space is required for storage. You don’t want to clutter your front entry. Keep it minimal and inviting 👍🏻
I enjoyed the before and after cases in particular. Your content is so sophisticated yet unintimidating. I always leave with tools with which I can consider my own space. Wonderful work, Julie. Thank you. 🤓
Dear Julie, I just want to say thank you!!! I love watching your videos. Thank you for all your hard work. I wish you had a class someday. I want to learn everything 😊 And also I really love that you consider feng shui with your choices. I would love to know even more about your suggestions.
Yes! I Just Purchased an entryway bench with storage because I have been trying to make the entryway functional and inviting. And just as I began this... You present us with this!! Yes! 🙌🏼. I love this awkward space series! My entire home is awkward and definitely have to get creative!! Your tips are so helpful! Thank you! You are so talented!!
This is great. My rooms get stale. I usually rearrange a room with each season to establish new patterns (storage/routines/art). I am addicted to repurposing spaces and learning them again. It's just like trying new plants in your garden once I better understand a particular space and its potential to be maximized.
Hello Julie! You have taken awkward to spacious areas of entries and made them functional and gorgeous. Thank you for this video, such an inspiration to self decorate my areas - a small bungalow. Thank you once again.
What a treasure trove of ideas! Thank you! I have an awkward tiny entry with a hallway to the right, a narrow hallway to the living room AND stairs going down on the left, and a narrow entry just ahead into the kitchen. You’ve given me hope that there is ALWAYS something to try, even if it is a 2” piece of wood with hooks and a mirror above behind the entry door, or a 4-6” depth console down the hall into the living room. Must go shopping…We’ll see…thanks, again! Your videos are fabulous!
Thanks Julie! You are so talented and exceptional designer!!! I learn so much from you!!!! Greatly appreciates your inputs and creative ideas🙏Thanks again!
This series is absolutely fire! Unless you're in a custom space, I seemed bound and determined to find homes with awkward spaces. This is pure genius and thank you. Right now I have no formal mudroom, if there is such a thing. However, I have just enough room on the walls to add floating shelves and hooks and a mirror...you really made my day!
Julie, you’ve nailed it! Great work listening to your subscriber feedback and incorporating it. You’re making the series feel more like a conversation than a video. Well done.
Great examples Julie. Don’t you just love the luxury of those grand foyers with center tables. What a luxury that would be verses the stairwell that rises up too near to my own front door!
I watched a couple of your videos before and liked your content but this one revived my inner passion for design, I was looking for ideas for my entry way and i must say i have been inspired. Just subscribed, binge watching now. Keep up the great content!
Oh Julie. This is probably your best video ever. I’m binge watching your videos, while I’m trying to get some housework done. This video is a constant distraction!!! Lol.
Loving these "awkward space" solutions series. I have a triangle/trapezoid shaped space, with a two-sided fireplace. It's a 1,000 square foot condo with loft (overlooking the triangular great room/living room). There are only two walls in the space because it's a triangle, and one of those walls is ceiling to floor mirrors. This look is kinda dated, but does serve the purpose of giving the illusion of a larger space, and reflecting a lot of light from the adjacent windows and skylights along the ceiling. Then there's the challenge of "marrying up" the great room/living room with the tiny kitchen it flows into. The space has a very modern feel and I know it can be great, but I'm so lost about how to deal with it. Smaller sofa, then bar height rectangular table along one wall? Scrap the couch altogether (which I'm inclined to do since the is around 15x12ish) and go with chairs and small cocktail table instead? This space is a huge challenge to decorate/design. Please consider a video with triangular/trapezoid shapes!
Thank you for watching! I shared some awkward angled spaces in the studio apartments layouts from the small space series. Check it out and see if the inspiration helps you plan yours Shnuggumz 👍🏻
Thank you so much! So another awkward space we have is an open concept master bathroom. The shower/toilet is in it's own private space, but the laundry, 2 closets and bath are all in an open square shape along with two vanities, a sewing area, 42 drawers/doors and the whole space happens to need serious updating. We just want to make sure we are utilizing the space in a smart and practical way.
Thank you for watching Danielle! Sounds like a whole nother room with tons of storage and space to demarcate. If you’re planning on remodeling, I would probably reconfigure the space so the vanity is included with the shower and keep the closet separate so they function according to the usage.
Great video Julie, had to share with my sisters. Each one of us has such a different entry way that we could all use the help. As usual, you’re awesome!! 👏🏼👏🏼♥️. Patricia
Oh wow! My wife and I are planning renovations and redecoration to our home and this video has given us the best ideas for the entry way we didn’t even know we needed! We have one of those front doors that open straight in to the lounge room and now we have plans to have a station against the wall with a refurbished school desk (we both work in schools lol) and my mums round mirror in the wall. It’s going to look gorgeous! Thank you for the inspiration

Dear Julie ! Thanks for all the videos, watching these everyday has become my daily routine since I am having my first own home . Can you make time sometime to suggest for ethnic traditional but functional decors for Asian homes . Thank you!
I love what you showed in this video! I always feel worried and anxious whenever I need to add furniture, because I feel like what if I pick a wrong size or wrong style that won't go along with the rest of my house. Luckily that I watched the entire video. You brought up case study! I see that making mistakes is okay. And I can't agree with you more that all Design is about functionality/ your needs. That is the personality of each different home.
Thank you. Y’re Very brave to tell us what you want have done differently in your professional work. My fave, of course, was the last where the round table matched the round top of the doors. Even the round table studs were mimicking. Will now check out how I can add faux, er, candle sconces to my petit foyer. And, perhaps, a pair of matchy framed photos. (I already have containers, a stool, coat hooks.) Thanks again.
Hi Julie this is my first time watching your videos.Thank you very much for them. They are inspiring and helps me a lot on my present problem regarding our home awkward space. Our house have 2 big glass doors, one sliding and the other is a glassdoor facing the highway and one wooden door at the side going to the garage.I divided the space into three, living room with the glass door, with the wood door to the side, the dining room on the sliding door,in the middle part is the study and office table with a sleeping area which I covered with cabinet, like a storage at the same time.I need your help and good ideas.Thank you very much.
Thank you for watching Blandyne! Also check out my small space series and the open concept layout video in the awkward space series for more tips! 👍🏻☺️
Thank you so much Julie for this great video! I am in the process of decorating my sister-in-laws new small home and this video is perfect with great ideas! Maybe a video on a long narrow closet. Love your style! Thanks again and have a great week! xoxo
Thanks Julie! I got several ideas and now realize we need a drop zone for us coming from the garage and one for guests at the front door. Excited to start planning and shopping. . 🥰😆
Your awesomeness came through again! There’s a lot to think about in creating an entryway from scratch in a new space. Let's see what I come up with. Lol! 😆🥴😘 Zee
Really enjoyed this video as always, Julie! I always struggle with my entryway for creating a space to take shoes off as we don't wear shoes at home and I want the entryway to "organically" suggest to visitors to remove their shoes. So I learned a lot from this video with all the seating area. I really liked the suggestions for bold entry way. I am assume that the design theme would flow with whatever the rest of the home design, meaning that the furniture or design theme of the Living and dining room would dictate what kind of style the entry way right? The new home that we are planning to buy has a long entry way that opens out to the living room on the right and an open kitchen concept to the right. How do I create a bold entry way especially for the ceiling or wall. How far would it have to extend to delineate the entryway?
Check out my video on how I organized and styled my own entryway for more tips dvinemsr! Guests know to remove their shoes since I leave house slippers for them to change in to. 👍🏻
Julie the view from my front door is a stairs on the left that turns to the right. Open under the stairs. With a small open archway to the left. Through the archway is a tiny space that opens to the lest to the office to the right coat hooks then left door to utility room. It's thw wall beside the arch and through the arch I feel I don't know what to do with. Love your channel. Lovely work.
Sounds like there’s a lot of architectural details already to focus on Margaret. I would suggest nothing on the walls to welcome guests further within your space if you have already addressed an entry area. I hope that makes sense
All of those examples look great; yet, I must say that I feel that the very last one (the one you said it looked busy) is the only one I feel was realistic and used. All the other ones were simply staged and once things hang on hooks and kids (or not kids) have taken their shoes off, it will look and feel totally different. Thank 'you' for your inspiration!
I enjoyed this video more than alot of them. My entry way is really small. I was fortunate to find an antique hallway tree that has a drawer and has space for umbrellas. I use it for my extra canes and had a custom key holder made that guests can lay their keys in.
I have one of those tiny, windowless, dark and awkward condo entryway. It has an Entryway door, a laundry/furnace room door. I've added a long runner (rug) a cushioned bench with wall art above it. and small table with a lamp and wall sconces to help make it better but it is still far from perfect. it has 3/4 high wall paneling which is nice but limited any custom hanging piece like those you show in your video. A coat rack will just become a clutter point (with my husband) so that's a no go. It's main issue is it a narrow hallway that is dark and gloomy!
Consider overhead lighting down the hallway Donna. A series of flush mounts for every 4-5ft would be fab depending on the length of the space to bring in more light. No need for artwork if you specify a cool wallpaper for the upper portion.
I love how your videos always give good and practical examples! Also Julie, my entryway is super narrow facing the stairway but two floors tall! One side has a window and this huge irregular wall and I would appreciate your insight on decorating irregular walls. Thanks so much!
Thank you for watching Sky! Focus less on the walls and more on drawing the eye up with a fabulous light fixture instead (or wall sconces up that wall 😍)
Now I’m motivated to work on my entryway. I have a good base entryway pretty much the only area I don’t have a challenge in the house lol. But it’s so much fun to change up an entryway! Thank you
Love your channel Julie! The videos are absolute gems! I learned soo soo much and my inner designer is in love. Befor i started studying education i was seriously considering studying interior design. I love solving problems in our home and friends homes. By far my biggest challenge was finding the right layout when it wasn't that obvious. Styling is always so fun and with the internet around to inspire you it really gets easy in this day and age. One thing i always do, wich i noticed you do the same as me, is that i ask myself what do i need in this space. I always ask my mom: Mom whats the Problem? How do you want the room to function for you? And after solving that in some way. It comes to styling. Living in Europe i have to say we very often lack storage space. There is no built in closets or anything like that so it makes it so much harder to find the right furniture that is functional and not too big for the space eighter. :))
Julie, what an informative video about various entryway’s! I’ve a dilemma for my new home’s entry way. When you enter it has a formal dining in the right and on the left a little ahead it has a garage door and besides garage door on left I’ve a big staircase that is in the middle of the home besides my family room/living room. What and how shall I deck this space? I can share a pic.
should i place a seat in a narrow entry area where the door opens up right in the space? Maybe i should place a shelf instead and place a fouton type seat where you walk in a look straight ahead. The Entry area is only 2metres by metres. Your are definately inspiring Julie Khuu. I Love watching what you have in store for us every time.

Finally watched this video. Thank you for some great ideas. My entry is circular. The curved walls add an extra challenge. Keep your ideas flowing. 🙏🏼
I would focus on a fabulous round light fixture in your case Jennifer. If you have enough room for a table underneath, awesome 👏🏻
Another video that can help me decorating our tiny entryway esp for a multi family home .
Hope you got some good tips! 🙌🏻☺️
Thanks again and have a great week! xoxo
I have some closet videos up now Karen- not long and narrow, but I hope you can get some good organizing ideas! 👍🏻
Love the long narrow hallways starting at 12:25!
Long and narrow can be beautiful when properly lit! 💫
What a useful video! It’s given me many ideas for new apartment. Thank you Julie! ❤
Can’t wait to hear how you implement the tips Jane!
Thanks Julie! I got several ideas and now realize we need a drop zone for us coming from the garage and one for guests at the front door. Excited to start planning and shopping. . 🥰😆
Yes! The drop zone by the garage is essential since that gets used (and abused 😆) daily Penny!
This was an excellent video. Hi Julie! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I learned a lot from the video. Stay well ~ Leida

Thank you for watching Nengi! ☺️🙏🏻
Your awesomeness came through again! There’s a lot to think about in creating an entryway from scratch in a new space. Let's see what I come up with. Lol! 😆🥴😘 Zee
You got this Zee! 🙌🏻☺️💕

Thank you for watching Carol! 🙏🏻☺️💕

Thank you for watching Jackie 🙏🏻☺️
Sounds like the perfect and unique solution 🙌🏻
I can’t thank you enough - this is exactly what I need! ❤️
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
You gave me a better idea of how to rethink my entry. Thanks! ❤🇨🇦
Hi Julie. Thank you so much for all the video. Recently found your video. Been watching it everyday. Give me a lot of inspirations 💕

Yassss! Finally, the perfect subject.
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
Thank you
Fun, quick, and easy since it’s such a small space MsSam! 👍🏻☺️
Timeless content. Thank you!
Great video with great examples. Thank you Julie!
Thank you for watching Anne! 🙏🏻☺️

Yay! I’m glad you got some good tips from this video Saro! 🙌🏻☺️
Form follows function Büsra! 🙌🏻 Right on! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
Informative and helpful video. The music is a whole vibe! 👌🏽 Subbed!

Thank you for watching Shannavegana! Love this necklace, so sentimental ☺️
I can share a pic.
whoa--I am literally in the middle of trying to think of what to do with my entryway--and I see that Julie just dropped a vid on entryways...
Woohoo! I got you 🙌🏻
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and expertise. Can you include in future videos how to style/stage vintage furniture namely winged back chairs?
Sure, love this idea and I’m a sucker for wingbacks especially Diamond 👍🏻☺️
should i place a seat in a narrow entry area where the door opens up right in the space? Maybe i should place a shelf instead and place a fouton type seat where you walk in a look straight ahead. The Entry area is only 2metres by metres. Your are definately inspiring Julie Khuu. I Love watching what you have in store for us every time.
If the space is tight, I would find another spot for the seat just beyond the entry landing. There’s no rule that states it must be front and center 👍
A wonderfully informative video, as always! Thanks!
Thank you for watching Michelle! 🙏🏻☺️
