At first I though this was going to be another boring bike video. However, this video is one of the most informative videos that I have ever watched on UA-cam. You did an excellent job explaining all the features of the motorcycle. BMW should supply a video like this for every vehicle that the sell.

I've had a fully loaded mint 2017 for a few months now and love it. Your video has been most enjoyable and by far the easiest explanation of the bike's in's and out i have seen thus far. Well done and it is a great bike, mines in racing red also but with a black strip on tank. Thanks

What a great, informative video! Thank you for sharing. Only recently bought a 2017 BMWR1200R naked bike with only 5000k and absolutely love it. Have had twenty bikes over my 45 years of street riding and this one seems so well engineered and balanced. The low centre of gravity boxer engine makes it very nimble. Yes, big bike with a ton of attitude in dynamic or mellow in road mode. My bike had no manual and you provided so many valuable tips, did not even know that the screwdriver under the seat included the wrench that i was missing for the oil! I think that i will buy the GS911 OBD diagnostic tool as BMW shop maintenance does seem a bit pricey compared to others, but sometimes you have to pay to play, just enjoy it...Thanks again from Canada...cheers!

Wonderful video, nicely done with good audio. Here in the United States, when we speak of an 'hour glass' we associate that with sand. We call those little windows to monitor fluid levels a 'sight glass.'

I would like to thank you for this really informative video that covered some of the technical details without getting boring or too "techy". This bike is on my shortlist and I am waiting for the Covid restrictions to be lifted in the UK, so I can test ride one. The details you covered endorse some of the better features of this bike. Enjoy the bike and have fun

Fantastisch video! I wish all motorcycle review videos were like this instead of boring videos of people just riding bikes. The dynamic red line tip just changed my life. You should do more walkthroughs like this, very entertaining and informative!
P.S. ride modes also affect fueling. For example Rain mode has a much softer throttle response and places a limit in available power around 100hp if I’m not mistaken.
Speaking of power, peak power (125hp) and torque (125Nm) would have been interesting to include, especially the amount of readily available torque and how that makes the bike so flexible in terms of riding styles.

I really enjoyed your video - thank you for taking the time to make & post it. I have had my R1200RS for nearly 3 years and so while this video didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know, I found it really interesting. Maybe its because I am missing riding my bike at the moment as the weather is ice and snow. Anyhow, thanks again and greetings from the Isle of Man. PS. I love your cap too :-)

Great overview and handy reference for a new owner.
I ride a 2017 R1200R (red) and for the 2017 they have made a few modifications to address the 1st gear engagement “clonk” and also added an OBD2 connection to simplify connecting the scanner.
You may also utilize a GS 911 tool or the Motoscan App in conjunction with an OBD2 module to read and reset the fault codes, reset the service reminder or perform various service functions.

From MC news- For 2017 all liquid-cooled boxer models will now be fitted with a judder damper on the transmission output shaft. New features also include a revised selector drum actuator, transmission shafts and transmission shaft bearing. An OBD indicator lamp in the cockpit has been added to meet EU4 requirements.
With a view to enhanced motorcycling safety, its range of special equipment features is extended to include the banking-optimised ABS Pro and the dynamic brake light (both in conjunction with the Riding Modes Pro option). Brake light not available in all markets.

Thank you for the great tech review. I have the 2015 R1200r with esa and full riding modes. I'm 5'5" 140 lbs but I found the stock seat not great ergonomically. I got the next higher one 820 mm and it suits me much better. I usually put one foot down at a stop. I bought the bike new and currently have 28,000 miles. I try to be careful where I stop and park. I agree that this bike is a bit of everything except off road. I do almost all maintenance myself. I added a Givi windscreen to break the wind at highway speeds.

This review is definitely the best one by my opinion out of all those full of excessive riding excitements - in contrast, it's like a condensed version of an owners' manual which is read by seldom riders in full. Thank you for this approach. It was mentioned during your gearbox review, that you have to firmly show an intent of shifting the gear. When I consequently shift down (f.ex. approaching an intersection), sometimes I miss this firm push and then the box gets stuck with no particular gear number shown on the display, and subsequent pushes are like through the empty box. After 2 or 3 secs it wakes up at some gear finally and then I can continue shifting it, but this delay is embarrassing. What happens inside the box at this moment? Greetings from Russia.

Love this bike, she can make everything! Just one question, I have mount a sport header without catalyser (and now there is no valve in the line too) , sport exhaust and a k&n filter. My dealer say that it’s not necessary to tune the engine because of the co2 sensor but I feel that the engine is not as smooth as when I had the original line in low and mid rpm. And if the engine is at idle and I push the throttle quickly the engine stop and I have to start it again. I believe that tuning the ecu correctly can make a difference and could be good for the engine too . I love my bike and I don’t want to damage the engine, what is your thought ? Thanks you for your help.
Another thing about the asc / dtc, I have the dynamic mode and when I push hard the throttle and that the front wheel start to lift the ground, the system shut down the gaz but too hard, so the bike go down on the ground and that is so fast that when it happen you are still full on The throttle and like is ok for the asc/dtc the engine go full again.. so I thing that’s a bit dangerous in this condition.. I would like that was a bit smooth and not ON/OFF.. or better, be able to setup it. when you buy a pack sport I think that it could be included, bmw supersport bike have it.... but when the rear wheel are slipping that’s fine!

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 роки тому +1

Thanks for the comments, In very simple terms the ECU of your bike uses a fuel map, and the output of the fuel map determines how much fuel en when its injected, In other words the AFR is balanced 1:14 based on the operating conditions and the input to the ECU form all the sensors such as the RPM, Mass Airflow, manifold temp, manifold pressure sensors, etc... and of course and vital the the AFR sensor or O2 sensor. All those parameters are read by the ECU and based on that input a point in the fuelmap is selected to drive the injection .. If anything is changed for instance the exhaust then the reading of the O2 sensor will be different just because of the very nature if that new and changed exhaust. Never the less the ECU still goes with its fuel map as programmed assuming that all parts are original. In short, your ECU map should be tuned and reprogrammed for the best results.... The dealer is wrong IMO.
If you leave it , it will do no harm as such but the bike is not running at its best AFR so less efficient
For the other part , again there is a controller that measures all the values of the slip , throttle, angle , inclination .. Maybe you have faulty sensor,,

Everyone makes their own choices on bikes. That's fine. I recommend agains jumping 800cc larger and not having respect for the throttle. Even on a bike like the R1200, which does not have 150+ HP, you can get in a lot of trouble fast with the throttle.
