i cant live another day without one of these. omg...i smake recordings all the time and i was thinking of getting a synthesizer, but im not very great at piano so it'd take me a while to figure out the chords and they'd be simple once i finally got it. mainly the strings effect though.
Yes, you can put the entire output through whatever effects or outboard gear you want, or you can also just route the natural guitar sound through outboard gear(Podx3) and switch between the two depending on what you want to do. There are more than one outputs.
I think that he plugs the gk-3 into the jack input on the guitar and then from the gk-3 you can see on the body of the guitar another jack goes from that to the amp or to effects pedals. Thats how you can mix the amount of signal from from both the guitar and the synth with the controls on the gk-3 itself.
hey can anyone help me im looking for a pedal like this with the midi- pickup but one where you can upload your own sounds/samples and then the pedal changes the pitch for the different notes so that when u play guitar u r playing your sample does any one know what im looking for?
@liveweyer Well, one alternative would be to use a fuzz pedal (which distorts signals into a near-square waveform) and then use a filter (wah or envelope follower, or any other filter effect) in order to make the sound less harsh. Or you could just use something like this and use the MIDI signal to control a synth on a square setting.
Can you program it (osc channels square/sine/saw/triangle waves, cut, resonance) or is it just a library of a bunch of instruments (pianos, strings, violins, and all)?
If I didn't know better I'd say this video was about 20-odd years old! 2:26 and 3:16, however...possibly the coolest/funniest stuff I've seen in a long, long while!
I got a few questions... A) Can you get any sort of dynamic range or is it all at the volume you set it at? B) Does the synthesizer respond to analog pitch bends like whammy bars and string bends? C) How does the synthesizer detect different notes? Would it respond to quarter-tone tuning?
Yes, thats what I'm saying. I love the sound of strings, not to mention almost any other instrument and I would love to get this thing, well I probably will be one day.
mm well here is a little question do i have to drill into my guitar to put the gk-3? if i have to do it can i remove? its because i think i will not use the gr-20 in my live gigs i only will use it at home
the updated version is the gr-33. it is practically the same but with more options to choose from and more pedals. sibelius will also score in real time while you play. recommend a resent version as this work better.
Go Joe is spot on. The fella playing on this video is no longer with us. Johnny, died one night, died in his bed, a bottle of whiskey and sleepin' tablets by his head. I heard his life passed him by like a warm summer day, but if you watch this video again you can still hear him play.
@zenocomplex fuzz can be such a harsh effect i usually try not to combine it with much else but a flanger, but that's a really great idea. And yeah after watching this i found a patch list and this has several settings based on square leads. Now all i need is some cash...
I didn't know these guitar synths existed. well now a guitarist can use a GR 20 to sound like a keyboardist, and a keyboardist can use a Roland AX to sound like an electric guitarist!
If you can afford to, the new VG-99 is basically lag free. Ive got one now and there is absolutely no latency with single notes, or chords really. Of course, its a big step up from this thing, but still.
thats part right. it actually controls how much of the synth and guitar combine u can switch forward or back through patches and other stuff if u want an explanation on the switch check out rob marcello's demo,s of roland products
Yes, but you'd need a seperate amp for the GR 20, or the orchestra sound aould distort too. (not that it isn't kind of fun to run some of the sounds through some overdrive)
That was awesome. Gotta have one
Nothing beats these late 90's gear demos!
this may be the best video ever made ever

I need this so much
that was danm amazing, I WANT ONE!!!!
loved the Sax ^^
You know what, what the hell as soon as i get enough im guna get one of these insane things! Thnx for the advice dude!
Go Go Johny Go Go!
Convincing banjo sounds!
Is there any problem with latency? Have you ever compared this to other GRs such as 30 , 33 or 55?
that egyptian tone was sweet!!!
@guitardaze feeeeeeeeed the lama...goddd!
2:24 epic tone
ahhhh the organ, i want , i want.

Hi!!
with the roland gr 20 can i controll the vst instruments on cubase?
Thnx!

Good for you.
you are awesome.i wana your expert advice.
which guitar synth is latest gr20 or gr33 and which one is the best .
omg those piano parts like at 3:00 and 1:40 are amazing. id get it for this. it would be perfect for a nice metal touch.
hey can anyone help me

Can I just connect the pickup itself to a compute midi input without using the module?
I love the 2:25 part!!! you rock johnny de marco!!!

totaly agree
The Lag on this thing is killer. I was pretty close to buying one once, then they got a copy of it in store and I stopped flat on.
Can you program it (osc channels square/sine/saw/triangle waves, cut, resonance) or is it just a library of a bunch of instruments (pianos, strings, violins, and all)?
totally agree with you..
So 80's!
can i use a footswitch midi controller with this processor? and can i enter my oun external sounds . like a sinthesizer??
HOLY CRAP HE JSUT DID A JACO...dude your so amazing he just did donna leee...johnny i salute you

would you be able to hook up the control to a floyd rose bridge system?
Yes, thats what I'm saying. I love the sound of strings, not to mention almost any other instrument and I would love to get this thing, well I probably will be one day.
I added this video as a favorite for the comedic value. But I still would love a GR-20.
mm well here is a little question do i have to drill into my guitar to put the gk-3? if i have to do it can i remove? its because i think i will not use the gr-20 in my live gigs i only will use it at home
Is it possible to connet ohther electric instruments like a e cello or e bass on this device?
how would the roland midi system compare to the hexpander preamp?
2:45 : donna lee !!!!!
nice vid. nice gear.

@KevinFL dude do know if i could just buy the gk pickup for guitar
and have alot of synth effects?
I guess Roland's CEO did find a spot for his son in the company.
i just buy it ...after i saw this vid :D... tomorrow...5 july is my birthday and will be first time i will play on it! :D
Whats the difference between this model and the fender roland ready guitar? are they the same?
2:24-2:35 always makes me laugh
Any one know if the pick up is worth buying and if so, if it is hard to install, sorta thing?
This thing seems like a perfect thing for some one who makes video game or movie/tv music.
@redghost105 yes you can . i have the gr20 and bought an extra p/u for another guitar it was about 200 at guitar center
This video is 90s as hell.
Just recently ordered tht GR-55 Perty sure it wasnt a mistakes
:-) STILL waiting for shipping
Thanks man, I'll go have a butchers at the one.
Always lookin' for new and better / exiting equipment. :)
hey do you need ti buy pickup or you can use it just like other pedal?

could I connect a mini keyboard controller to it?
I heard that Johnny was a young boy when he heard his first Beatles song..."Love me do" I think it was, and from there it didn't take him long
As in compression/sustainer pedal? Wouldn't that be superfluous since the synth is already giving you a constant sustain?
FUCKING AWESOME
So can you do infinite sustain as if you're constantly holding a chord on a synthesizer ?
I want this so badly... 0_o
cAn it produce guitar distprtion or overdrive too ? thx
@y2zgt mutli effect pedal is guitar effects. this is a midi pedal. its like turning your guitar into a keyboard
4:08, awesome.
I was wondering if it's still possible to get anything like this?
je seconde!!
@zenocomplex fuzz can be such a harsh effect i usually try not to combine it with much else but a flanger, but that's a really great idea. And yeah after watching this i found a patch list and this has several settings based on square leads. Now all i need is some cash...
@sphericalpyramid hi.
does it have normal sonds? for metal, guitar solos and tha' stuff
greeting from chile
can i use a gk 2 pick up with this?
he isn't a twat he is like one of the best guitarest ever
so is this like a plug and play pedal>? Or do you need a preamp or some computer to use it?
I didn't know these guitar synths existed. well now a guitarist can use a GR 20 to sound like a keyboardist, and a keyboardist can use a Roland AX to sound like an electric guitarist!
How hard is it to mount that pickup strip on your guitar ?
@Presentboy ya it will work with bass
Chilean people loves you Johny Demarco

Who would win in a fight between Johnny DeMarco & Dusty Rhodes?
id really like to get that keyboard which one is it
can this be used with bass guitar as well?
Yes, but you'd need a seperate amp for the GR 20, or the orchestra sound aould distort too. (not that it isn't kind of fun to run some of the sounds through some overdrive)
thnxs
I want that so bad!
borrowed my friends to play the strings part of bitter sweet symphoney at our high school taltnt show
is there a cheaper alternative to the Roland Guitar Synth GR-20??
Was this video made by Tim & Eric?
4:07... awesome.
I want one.
could play this pedal and still hear the guitar, like, play an orchestral sound but still hear your overdrive?
were these made for Disney and theme parks in general? sounds like a ride theme machine!
i love the one at 3:16!!!!
and final chord he threw out at 3:20
amen

Great expressions on this guy, and the great squidward clarinet sounds....really sells the product....bahhahaa
