6 months ago Apple released the Airpods Max, their brand new, top of the line wireless noise cancelling headphones, and they were generally well received except for a few quickie flaws. The biggest one being, the price.
At $550, the Airpods Max were operating in a territory that most people are not used to seeing headphones, and there are plenty of great options at half the price. And in my original review, I made the decision to return them, despite how much I liked them, I couldnt justify how much they cost.
However 6 months later, I changed my mind and got them again, and in this video I will be going over why!

I love them. I was waiting so long for them.
I had the beats headphones for so long because I’m in Apple ecosystem. I didn’t want to get anything different.
I would hear people rave about the Sony and Bose with jealousy, but not anymore! Lol.
For the other comment out there, you can use Airpods Max and charge them at the same time.
Cons:
1/ The texture of the ear cups is rough, if you have sensitive skin it will make your skin itchy. This could be the product killer for many.
2/ Automatic switching is not automatic between macos and ios/ipados. Many users has reported this. Auto-switching still have a lot of bugs it is not as seamless as many claim.
3/ Battery is below average and since it can’t turn off it is even worse. You need to charge every 3-4 days even with light usage. Other headphone can last 2 or 3 times. They could add an on/off function without adding any button and there is no reason why user can’t have both options to turn off or always on and ready to go.
4/ I have ear infection using it. It doesn’t happen to most people but beware and stop using if you are also affected.
5/ no real case no aux cable, you gonna spend more if you don’t want latency/travel
6/ feel heavy when you move your head.
7/ $550
Pros:
1/ Good sound
2/ great anc and transparency
3/ new tech like spatial audio and dolby atmos.
Historically most headphone price go down significantly after a year. If you think Apple is an exception, look at the airpods pro they have been selling for $170 last Black Friday and is $180 right now. Conclusion not worth $550.
I think u should’ve never gotten rid of them in the first place. Lol. I was big on these even before I had them and the upgrades to Apple Music make it even more worth it.

If you used it for Watching Apple TV Dolby Atmos content, it will completely Blows you away with the Spatial Audio. It's totally cinema theatre at home, and completely destroy xm4.
Now Netflix supports spatial audio too!

For some reason I love the feeling of the weight of it and the mesh makes it the most comfortable earphones I’ve ever worn along with the cushion ear cuffs. I’m buying them soon 😈 I have avoided wearing/buying over the ear headphones and Apple really did it well enough for me to stop hating them.
Just be careful not to sweat in them. There is a specific way to clean the ear cups and mesh band. These will stink something gnarly if you sweat with them on.

I definitely agreed that Airpods Max has no creaking sound at all unlike other headphones even Sony MX headphones, Enjoying mine in pink color.

The plastic creaking sound on my Bose 700 is super distracting so I never walk with them and try not to move at all when I have them on, pretty inconvenient
I definitely do not regret buying these headphones months ago. They are super high quality and the integration with iOS is so satisfying. Only thing I do not like is the case. I have to carry a case with another case.
I don’t like no solid auto pairing with Mac min/MacBooks for that matter..def a let down there. & the weight ofc is annoying when doing anything outside of sitting at a desk.

As much as I love Apple products, there's still no way in hell I'm paying that much for headphones. But this is my first time at your channel and it's the best review of these headphones that I've seen.. and I've watched quite a few. Great job on the video and review.

I don’t feel like they’re that heavy on my head and even though everyone mocks the case, it’s actually done in a smart way. You can still access the port and if you have to adjust the headband, this case doesn’t make you adjust it back like the ones that fully cover the AirPods. I wish there were other headbands so that you could customize them more than just the different colored ear pieces but I’m not sure how that would work. I do wish they cancelled ALL the noise around me because my house gets loud and I don’t want to hear any of it but it does a great job especially when I pair them with my Apple TV to watch a movie or something
I just bought them for $150 off the retail price and I absolutely love them. Worth every penny ❤

I just bought them and you nailed everything I agree with legit everything you said. I’m in love with these headphones they nailed it.
I returned them because they hurt my head with the clamping force. But I do miss them, and thinking about buying them again
@V 4 vindication I did. I had them stretched out on an oversized bookcase for 5 days. The ear cups were the problem, IMO. There is not enough outward play movement from the bottom half of your face so it was clamping too much by my jawbone
Mine took about 2 weeks to break in and now they are very comfy, i had read about this before hand with these.
Kinda reminds me of the initial discomfort I use to have with my AirPods Pro. It took a while for me to adjust to them. My AirPods Max should be here next week. I have a 12 hour + flight in a few weeks so I wanted the Max version for my trip.
I liked the little section about the look of products.
I also like to appreciate the design of my products if I have nothing else to do.
Best review out there for this headphones... I am sick and tired from audiophiles everywhere :D Thanks to actually explaining why this price is fine and how this headphones are positioned in the current market.
Added a silicon headband protector available on Amazon. Works great. I also love my Waterfield Design case. I also added the Monocarbon carbon fiber cup protectors.
I do wish they weren't so heavy. I want to wear headphones for 8-12 hours per day, so all that weight adds up over time.
Retail is £550 but near new ones are now going for £300 on eBay which is less than I paid for my Bose QC35 back in the day, at that price they look pretty darn appealing!

Apple should team up with Waterfield, tbh. I love my Waterfield case and I'm glad I didn't cheap out on one through Amazon.
Got mine about a week ago and am still on the fence about them. I got them mainly for the anc and they are great for that. Not so great for eye glasses and can’t wear them watching videos on my iPad when walking on treadmill because the headphones will move and jiggle and I get rubbing noises from the eyeglass frames. Great for watching TV but because of the weight they get uncomfortable after an hour or so. They are also a little tight. I think I may return them.

Spatial audio is quite a bit of a game changer on iOS 15. It sucks on iOS 14 but it’s true capabilities are more realized on iOS 15.
Not really..if you watch vids primarily on ur phone then hone can hardly talk about game changing experiences. Once Mac OS gets it then it’ll be legit
If you want your AirPods max to reconnect to your Mac from your iPad if it doesn't automatically, you can select your AirPods in the sound or bluetooth shortcut on your top menu bar without having to turn off and reconnect them like you did in the video.
The headband is replaceable with the sim ejector tool. Just no replacements available yet.

I’ll most definitely e able to get myself a pair of these this year, but I only want to get them with my iPhone 13 Pro purchase to make the whole experience even sweeter. I have to agree with you on your point about the Price of these things. Like most of Apple’s products where you pay a premium, when you factor in the R&D that goes into the design, you do start to understand a little why the price is high. That said however I don’t agree with Apple when it comes to other aspects, such as hard-wiring RAM into the Motherboard of their Macs and charging people a lot for it. People should be able to buy Comparable RAM sticks from other manufacturers like Crucial, or even hard-wiring Batteries into their MacBook lines has attracted some controversy.

I love mine, but I agree they are hard to recommend even when on sale at Best Buy or Amazon. I've noticed they don't play well with Intel Macs. For whatever reason, it won't do the smart connect like it would with an iPhone or iPad.
I think it’s because the chips aren’t by apple, other than that idk why they wouldn’t work well

Thanks for the fair review and for not jumping on the “trash the bra case” bash bandwagon like the others. I haven’t bought them yet and am still sitting on the fence mainly because of the price, but I feel the same about the case not being a “normal” case. And I’m also not too concerned about the lightning connection.
Fabulous review, thank you for making the content. He really interesting perspectives as well. These things are always subjective, so I say to people that if the Sony XM for sounds great to you, then grab a bargain and get them. I also generally believe the Apple are Mickey taking gets when it comes to any pricing and they probably could have afforded to do the slightly cheaper. After all this time, I’ve now got a pair, and very mine XM4 and Sennheiser momentum 3, A fabulous time of headphones by the way. As I say, this will vary depending who you are. For me, I actually can see why they cost significantly more. The design is lovely, and there is no doubt, but for me it’s all about the audio stage, the balance and the additional surround sound like feature with special audio for movies. You get a more realistic sound out of them. I didn’t think it would be possible for them to be the Sennheiser headphones I have, but they do. If anyone is thinking I really want a decent pair of headphones though, but I don’t want to pay, I can’t afford to pay Apple prices, Sennheiser are brilliant. Hi if you really enjoy sound, I’d recommend at least trying the Apple. You may not even like it, because it’s very subjective, but having now got them, I don’t regret it. Happy listening. PS hi as you say, it’s subjective, but I’ve worn these for about five hours on one occasion, and I don’t really feel that I’m wearing headphones that are any heavier than my others. They absolutely are heavier, but I just don’t personally notice it. Again your marriage will definitely vary

Yeap Q30 is better value for money and blows these headphones out of the water. Add a little more, and you get LDAC support with the Q35s.

If you ask me, Apple should've added the "off" function to the Noise Control button (like pressing it for 5 seconds, for example). It could, in theory, force the headset to be placed in its Ultra Low Power Mode, rather than after 18 hours of being in its Smart Case.
Also, I have a device with a usb-type C port (although, I'm guessing I still need the usb-c to headphone jack adapter for the wired connection to work, right?) so I would be able to connect it straight to my iPad (even if the wired connect does not work, at least it'll be able to charge it (I have an iPad Pro 12.9" 5th Gen with M1 chip)).
This video was so crispy!!! It was like I could literally feel those shiny chamfered edges of the headphones thru the video itself. Wow!! Just a small doubt, I know they ain’t IP certified but how do u find em for gym use? Especially with that added weight on em.

Listening this video with my Airpods Max...glad I bought them
I just got them 2 weeks ago. The first day I was very disappointed, because in my case are not as comfortable at every body says, the Bose QC35, are much better. And the connectivity between all Apple devices (MacBook, iPad, iPhone) is not that automatic. I thought to return them, but one day I used them for a videoconference, and I activated the transparency mode and I fall in love with the AirPods Max.
You might of gotten a bad pair because its connectivity is spot on and instant for me

If u experience them, just picking them up and jamming, it really is how it should be.

Where did you get your headphones stand?
You can release the headband. Just under the ear cups there’s a small hole that uses a sim release tool. Pressing this releases the strap.

I love them after several months of use. However, the lack of a power off completely option is one of the dumbest moves Apple ever made!
Not really.. its one of the coolest parts of the headphones. Even being on they only use a few percent of battery a day which is like a hour of battery loss every day. And if your not using it just keep it in the case to lose 0.5-1% of battery a day or less. Just to be able to toss them on your head and tell it via voice command what playlist or app and song to play without touching or messing with any buttons and your phone is so cool and easy and seemless
Spatial Audio is coming to Apple TV 4K and Mac this fall and is already out if you’re on Beta

I would agree Airpods Max has way much to offer in comparison of other Headphones, the only downside is "Money" and Audio performance, i have found lately that while using Apple Music and set up the EQ to Flat you get more of a kicker sound, not everything is well balanced.
However i can deny the fact that Airpods Max can offer way more features than others, there's no way to compare this headphones other than Audio (which is a fair comparison)

Unfortunately the AirPods max do not support lossless. But the dolby atmos support is great

I bought these the 1st day it came out. I sold it after one month cause it was kinda too heavy for me. I saw one used like new for $320 so I bought it again… LOL. I mainly just use them for watching movies and listening to music but still use my Bose QC35 for traveling

Have you ever noticed any condensation on your space gray? I just bought mine(space gray) and saw condensation after 2 hours of usage 😳 I also saw it on the drivers.

Might just be me but they seem to shut off when you turn them inwards. So no case needed
I agree, they are truly beautiful. The weight doesn’t bother me. I guess that’s because I never use them for more than an hour or so at a time.

where did you get your skin on the mac from ?
Did you also experience worse NC recently? My subjective feeling about the ANC is a decrease of the ANC Quality when it comes to blocking voices and usual sounds when traveling in a plane etc. Sometimes I try to activate the ANC (and deactivate the transparency mode) and just recognized I was using the ANC already. 😅

something must be wrong with your volume. Mine gets to 98db. With EU max volume still 85db which requires hearing protection in working environments.
(nice to know: +3 db is double the loudness, +10db actually feels like double volume)
I noticed that when I use Spotify to play music the volume doesn’t get as loud or clear compared to when I use Apple Music, so he’s probably using Spotify or other music services other than Apple Music (it gets 2x louder using Apple Music)
That may be it, I tested using spotify.

I just got them off of Amazon, theyre made for the A2+'s but you can buy them seperately and they work perfect for the e3.5's. They're called the Audioengine DS1 Desktop Speaker stand

if it conectes to an other devise, you can just hit the volume up in rigth corner and conect it back. happens all the time with my airpods pro

LIghtning connectors are much easier to plug than ubs-c. I really don't like usb-c.
Maybe this just should’ve been your first review. Doesn’t seem like a product that would drastically change your opinion unless the only major problem was price (the AirPods max can now be found a bit cheaper). But then again….I don’t own them myself and I don’t have a UA-cam channel
I pre ordered and then returned them cause I’m honestly not even close to an audiophile so it wasn’t worth it. But now that they were $250 off near me I’m probably gonna get them again. But a different colour.
You’re carrying the headphones upside down turn them up the other way to carry them not by the top of the headgear it by the case.

I think the worst part about the cable is that you can only get a low quality cable even if you do buy one. Apple is pretty consistent about making their cables and adapters junk quality. That's why there is a third party market. Oh yeah, they do make money off of that certification. Hmmmm.

The lack of 3.5 mil jack is a complete deal killer for me. Try connecting via Bluetooth on a plane to a video screen
Just use a seven dollar dongle you can’t charge them on a plane anyway
I had AirPods Max and the sound quality was meh! Very low volume when turned up high and no equalizer. Bought the Sony XM4's and they are much better than than the AirPods Max and I'm a Apple Fanboy! Sony also has an app to customize the sound and the Max Pro's don't. The cost of AirPods Max doesn't support it's features and sound point blank.

The reason a lot of other headphones are not made of metal is because it’s heavier. One of the things that makes headphones uncomfortable with long term use weight.
Seems better to me I have the Sony Xm4 and they feel fragile when I use them also the creaking is a bit annoying , would rather the AirPods max design
