I had my hip replaced this past Valentines Day. Was up walking that afternoon with no actual hip pain. Went home the next day using a walker and went for a quarter mile walk that evening. Used the walker for 3 days then went to a cane for 7 days, then unassisted. 2 weeks post-op was back at work full time and I work in the roofing trade. Lived with pain that completely disrupted my way of life for 2 years and now fell better than I have felt in over 10 years. If you are thinking about hip replacement surgery, the folks at OrthoVirginia are the ones to go see. The entire staff are out of this world and Dr. Vincent Dalton is a true miracle worker.

I had THR in 2008. Best decision ever, After years of pain I decided enough was enough. I wanted to walk normal again. I made an appointment in Ortho at JHH. I was 50 years old within 2 months I was back to normal and still am. I urge anyone considering this surgery to do it ASAP you won't regret it. Thanks Johns Hopkins.

both hips replaced 6 weeks apart. total of 4 weeks work PTO used. Nothing heavier than OTC Tylenol needed throughout rehab. exercise, up and moving. I told doc I really did not have the time of life to stop and do this. Wow; minimal down time .....just can't say enough good things. Thank you Joint Implant Surgeons, New Albany, Ohio.

I have been in pain with my hip since 2009 that is the first time I mentioned it to my dr. In three weeks I am getting a total hip replacement finally. I am really nervous but happy that I am finally getting something done and someone is taking this seriously.

Very grateful I had my THR done via the direct anterior approach and did not have to go through this kind of suffering!

It's good knowing that, according to the hip replacement patient, getting one should leave one pain free within a few weeks.

I just had a THP on 9/28/17 and I'm home on 9/30. I will have a PT visited my home for a couple of weeks. I waited two years too long for this surgery, but now any pain I feel is in the surgery area not the hip itself. I just wanted to thank you for this informative video. This is the first THP video that doesn't rush instructions. I've had to watch the in and out of bed segment
a few times, but I think I've got in down. Because it's only a few days since my THP, the most problematic issue I have is getting in and out of bed. I take Extra Strength Tylenol for pain.
That seems to ease the discomfort. Again thank you for this wonderful video. LT

Am 56 --- had total anterior hip replacement Wednesday Nov 18th and came home Thursday Nov 19th.
Had a spinal block and sleeping aid instead of general anesthesia. That was excellent. Don't remember a thing. Was up and walking 3 hours after surgery. Wanted to walk more but there weren't enough nurses to help me.
It's a totally different kind of pain now. It burns or stings. Skin feels tight. The only thing I'm concerned with is, I have (had) arthritis in both hips but the left one was the one that crippled me up. Now that that was replaced, the right one hurts like never before. Am anxious to find out why. I hope it's just temporary but I think when he put the rod in, it might have evened out my pelvis and now there's more pressure on the right side. That's only a guess. But overall, I'd do this again without hesitation.

    1) how do I get in/out of a tub to shower? 2) how do I get my underpants, pants, socks, and shoes on? 3) how do I wipe my bottom after going to the toilet? 4) how do I get in & out of a car? 4)how do i get things out if the fridge? 5) how do I carry a drink from the kitchen to the table? 6) how do I pick things off the floor or get things from the bottom of the fridge?
    Where is the practical information?

Thanks for the great tips. I'm 37, very athletic surfer, and now I am pre-op for a THR. I'm pretty angry that I have this diagnosis and just the thought of having fake body parts really annoys me. I feel like a defective person. Wish I had a warranty! Thanks to this gentle men's story this video is helping to change my views.
What are the blood thinner shots I hear about that some people have to get. I don't want to have any surprises. Also what type of prosthetic should I use? I think my doctor suggested ceramic and plastic cup? But I hear about titanium all the time on the talk radio stations like Keck USC Med Ctr. I wouldn't mind to do this at age 60 but at 37 it's really frustrating to lose control. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Regarding the 90 degree rule, does it only apply during the first few weeks at home? I had a hip replacement last August & I am wondering if I can now bend my leg more than 90 degrees or cross my ankles.

Nice little video. Not sure sure about how the PT taught the gentleman to get the leg into bed - if you have trouble, you would benefit from having a leg-lifter gadget (PT's and OT's in the hospital should know what these are). Most legs after surgery and swollen and very sore. Also, most people (not all) after hip surgery will need some aids in the bathroom (shower stool, toilet seat raiser) - again, OT's can advise on these (or home based PT's and OT's, and nurses!).

I just had total hip replacement for the second time. the first time I had pain for about 3 weeks and just started walking with out the use of a cane. A few nights later after walking too much that day I had a muscle spasm that ruined the operation. I had the bad leg about 4 inches shorter. My second operation they used a component that went in my leg that has spikes that goes into the leg bone. After 2 days I was walking without any help. I think my surgeon did a excellent job.

This is Dr.M.R.Nagarajan BVsc; , I underwent THR for AVN at Coimbatore Ganga Hospitals in
the year of 2001 August, by Professor S.Rajasekaran and his team. Now i am 63 years old. Till date , i am not having any major complaints regarding the Surgery. So far i have moved with so many Doctors. Professor Rajasekaran & his team are very casual and polite with the patients as well as the attendants. After my Surgery i referred many patients to him. Most of the family members are Dedicated persons in the field of modern medicine. Let Almighty Bless the family. With Regards.

I am having THR in about 4 weeks and I am a mess , strssed out to the limit to think of someone sawing off a bit of my bones it makes me feel ill to be honest . Everyone says " oh you'll be fine " and I'm sure I will , but now I have been given a date to be honest I am totally shitting myself. I am 58 yr old female , always been active I feel I should have spent my younger yrs on the lounge watching tv so I wouldnt be going through this as most I have seen are 65 yr old + not 58 , I am a stressed out mess. Thanks for the video , though.

they didn't give you the Hydrocodone 10/325 for that pain? I'm getting THR Aug 19th and I'll find out July 31 if it is direct anterior approach. I hope so, healing time much quicker. I had a ovarian cyst removed last year via lap and I was in pain like crazy for 14 days. After that, I was fine. I think this should be the same. (And I didn't want to drive until week 4). Hopefully I can drive at 4 weeks post op after my THR. Must go to a weeding out of state. Can't wait for my new hip!

Hi I'm Shoumiera and I will be 50 in June 2017. I was born with an irregular right hip born and ever since I know myself I had complications with pain. I really start experiencing regular pain in my late twenties. Lucky for me I started exercising from in my twenties. I love music so I would dance often and I also joined a gym. I wasn't fanatical so I sometimes took a break in between. when I hit my early forties I started having endless problems with pain so I made sure I exercise everyday for an hour. if I danced I would do so for two to two and a half hours each day. The hip just go so bad hat I couldn't walk for an hour then the pain would start flaring out. I went to see an orthopaedic surgeon and was told that a total hip replacement needs to be done and it was inevitable. at he gymn I got a biokinethitist to help me strengthen my core fore 3 months and well today is 1 week since my op to be exact. I am pain free except for surgery discomfort. I done so well after my operation that there wasn't a need for me to be sent to a high care ward. I went straight to a normal ward. my bp and all other signs were awesome. after 3 days I was discharged. I should have done this years ago. I am walking with canes at the moment but I am very independent and progressing very very well mostly because I was exercising often. it is wise to be fit before any major operation.
