      Which approach did you did?
      Which doctor did the procedure?

    • @JohnDoe-mp1zk
      @JohnDoe-mp1zk 3 роки тому +8

@jack o'lantern I really do believe "pick the dr, not the procedure" . So many variables and opinions I found myself going nuts trying to make that decision. I read that quote somewhere and I do believe its valid and it helped me. I had hip replacement at 45 and while I really liked my Dr. my results were not ideal. He was highly regarded among his peers and in the community. He did not do the anterior approach, but I felt comfortable with him and I dont believe he did anything wrong but the bottom line is you just dont know how you will respond. No matter what they tell you, because all I heard was "oh, you will do great" considering the condition you are in. I was in excellent shape at the time. My recovery was horrendous. I was still using a walker after 6 weeks, not typical of a hip replacement and it really was about two years before i could say, oh yeah thats right i had my hip replaced. My body fat was low and in my legs must have been 2-3% if that. I almost feel that might have been more of a negative than positive. Everyone I know that was heavy or had a lot more body fat than I all remarkably better than I.Of course this anecdotal, but I almost feel like it might have been better to have some extras body fat, so pack some extra fat on ya before getting done. Who knows, certainly not me but making the decision you are going through now is difficult and I remember doing so. I feel for ya. If i had not like and trusted my doctor I can trell yopu I would be much more cynical and angry about the whole ordeal and that wouldn't have served anyone well. So, Thanks Dr Mark Heller.

Had a posterior THR 6 weeks ago. I'm walking comfortably with one crutch or stick 2Km daily, inside I'm starting to walk with no support at all. The best thing I did prior to surgery was to look at as many actual operations on UA-cam as I could. I was totally relaxed going into surgery and haven't looked back.

I had left hip anterior surgery on 11/30/22. My hip pain had been about an 8 or 9, I basically could not do anything without a great deal of pain. This is in addition to a left knee that needs a replacement and chronic lower back pain. I would say my post surgery pain was about what I expected. It was well managed in the hospital and I went to rehab for 4 days where it was still well managed. Of course I did have pain, certain movements felt like 1,000 bees were stinging me all at once. Now home for 4 weeks, and with no precautions, I have been keeping up with my PT exercises (a must) and my pain is minimal. I would say that the worst part is getting comfortable sleeping but that is improving. It is a joy to have relief from the constant sharp pain. Thank you Dr. Alpaugh, great job!

I am 67 and heading into my 5th week after posterior THR. Been without walker or cane since middle of week 3. I only used extra strength Tylenol for pain the first week. I am sleeping on my back and non surgical side with pillow between my knees. I do experience sciatica and thigh pain that will wake me during the night but sleep is getting better. I see PT 2xweek and of course do my at home exercises. I still have alot of discomfort in incision area but doc said by week 8 that should be mostly resolved. My advice is to follow your doctor's hip protocol and most importantly keep moving so you don't get stiffness.

Had Bi-lateral staged THA, right weeks apart, in June and August, 2021. Had Anterior approach. No hip precautions. No pain..could sleep any way I wanted. Actually woke up to discover I had rolled into my left (surgical) side, about 3 nights after surgery, while sleeping. That freaked me out a bit. Anyway, Anterior Hip replacement was piece of cake, for me. Was walking a mile, with no came and no pain, 5 weeks post surgery, and went back to work at that time. Kudos to Dr. Tim Wagner, in Rochester,,NY.

Hope this post helps someone out there.i was due for an anterior total hip replacement but just before I was to be wheeled into theatre my doctor said your leg seems to be more noticeable shorter than your right leg so I have decided it will be better to do the posterior approach as it will give us more room to do the hip and get your left leg the same length.this I thought was a bad start but I am pleased to report that all went well and I am now pain free.i was walking normally in 6 weeks without any aids and going upstairs with ease.i put this down to gods help ,I also did my best by doing gym work months before my operation losing excess weight any eating healthy I will never be able to repay my doctor and his team for what they have now given me so thankyou.

I had posterior hip replacement on left side do to breaking neck of femur in half, 4 years earlier. At that time I had had plates, pins, and screws to fix the break. Before the left hip replacement I had anterior right hip replacement. I also had spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis of the L 4-5 level of my spine. I do not regret the hip replacements to much but the back surgery has had me in horrible chronic back pain since the surgery 5 1/2 years ago. Could the difference in hip replacements have anything to do with the back pain and still right hip pain? My body is so physiologically off. I am sick of pain and pain relievers!!

I had anterior surgery, which is the best way to go - for a full hip replacement. The recovery is faster with better results. My physical therapy started on the third day after my surgery. On the first day of physical therapy, I was instructed to do the bridge exercises. It helps to build the muscle around your glutes, it has been 4 months since my surgery and I am doing very well. I was told I cannot ever return to running or jogging. However, I love hiking, walking, bicycling and lifting weights.
Of course I had an outstanding physician who specializes in anterior hip replacement and knees. I am sure the hip replacement can come out of the joint by doing excessive sports, or jumping, running or possibly a surgical error, or a medical anomaly. Whatever the case it is man made and not God made. We need to be careful with our new hip.
Anterior surgery has improved since this video was made. You need to look at the latest research in the last 5 years on anterior hip replacement. Thank you for the informative video, but please update it.

Thank you for this video. I am due for total hip replacement and am very worried about all the precautions and the recovery time. I have been putting it off for a number of years and hope i am doing the right thing.
Can you tilt back like in a dentists chair after this surgery?

Had a anterior THR in July 2019. The Doctor cleared me to go home three hours after surgery with ZERO restrictions. Recovery was a snap. Walking without a cane or crutches within 24 hours after surgery.

And three months out from surgery, I have resumed running. The running isn’t coming easily but it coming along albeit slowly.

WOW that is what I needed, having right hip replaced 10/29. I'm 64 and not in good shape plus over weight.
But this has snaped me into doing the best I can to change that. I'm sure I'm having surgery the way you did. Thank God for new technology and Dr that know this procedure. I have fallen too many times when hip gave out, bummer for sure. Good Luck in the future.

Wow ! I just had a posterior HR, after waiting over 2 1/2 years , so a lot of residual pain from arthritis . I admire you for being able to walk without cane/crutches so soon . How old are you ? I'm 79, and still using my walker , 25days post op.

Delores Torresan Delores, I'm 62 y/o, fairly fit and a little overweight and had the anterior approach. My surgeon said I was an ideal candidate for the THR. From what I can see on the different social media groups about Hip Replacement, recovery results are all over the place. Recovery from the posterior approach is much more difficult. You don't seem to be all that unusual. Hang in there and all the best. I hope you have a great holiday season.

Not going to lie; recovery HURTS. But I do know that it is going to be all worth it in the end. Just do exactly what your doctor says and everything with be fine.
My first therapy session is tomorrow so I will give you an update.
Don't let anything discourage you; after recovery is over with you will be glad you did it .

Could the bridging movement cause loosening in the hip if done to soon or should it be not done at all? I have had re-replacement done in my right hip, this past March. I'm having such pain still. Is it normal to still be in such bad pain. They have had me doing this bridge movement the whole time. Thank you if you can give me an answer. Teresa

I am 1 month post op today but it doesn’t feel like it I just returned home from the hospital after a 4 day stay following my second dislocation, now I am absolutely petrified to do anything since it didn’t take much more than standing up from a chair for the 2nd dislocation, the 1st happened while I was trying to put on those compression devices on my calves. My surgery was anterior but both dislocations were posterior, there is no describing the pain! I feel a bit better reading all
the success stories but I would be happy to take any advice I can. I came home with a hip brace I wear all day unless I’m laying down and a large triangle shaped foam pillow that straps to my legs both are helping but I am still so scared with every move I make😱.

Can I ask please is this for the first 12 week after THR or really for life. I have a RTHR and never noticed as much how my feet point inwards until I had my left foot pinned. I think the right side is slightly inward and I have had a posterior HR....they did say they were going to do Anterior. I have hypermobility. So do I have to be more carful of dislocations? Thank you in advance and always loved your videos.

My brother just had this surgery- not sure if his was anterior or posterior but he isn't sure how he is supposed to go to the bathroom to take a poop. Maybe you could explain best way to move when doing that.
