    I love this guy's sense of humor and I think it's very important to have a doctor with a pleasant bedside manner. I'm due to have my hip replaced soon and I have to admit that I'm nervous about it.

      I can’t wait to get my hip replaced. I’m in agony every minute of every single day. I’m popping Motrin one day, Bayer 500mg Back & Body Aspirin the next. I was scared until I watched the operation being performed on UA-cam.

    Had total hip replacement right on 8/22/22 using the Mako robot. Lateral cut, the robot found my right leg was 4 inches shorter than the left leg. Made the adjustment with the placement of the prosthetic. I went home 6 hours later, after first walking the hallway and going up and down a flight of stairs. Almost 3 weeks out and I am off pain meds, using a cane and driving. There are some fantastic medical professionals out there.

      Am 72 and my surgeon's posterior (buttock) approach was revealed in a vid being watched right B4 going to preop. My pain prior (was for 2 yrs) as was homeless. Postop, MUST have a real bed (not foam) to convalesce for 3 months. Stayed one day in hospital after surgery. A caretaker (her apartment) is allowing me to stay for 3 months. Altho instructed to take two 500 mg Tylenol acetominophen for pain both a.m. and p.m. was also given Tramedol for severe pain - but had NO PAIN WHATSOEVER; am almost three weeks out now from surg. date. Postop, also instructed to take one 81 mg aspirin (q8hr) daily to prevent blood clots prophylactically - of particular concern is the calf to prevent DVT (deep vein thrombosis) or blood clot. Was given a large ice compress for swelling (which never happened so did not use); also given Rx script to get Naloxone Hydrochloride (nasal spray) 4 mg postop which I also did not even open as instructions on box said: Administer a single spray in one nostril upon signs of opioid overdose and call 911. Did not call surg. nurse the next day to inquire why I was given such - but ?perhaps re: Tramadol (if taken for extreme pain) - but NOT taken. Will ask PCP tomorrow when bandage (similar to sticky saran wrap?) is removed to check wound site, if staples were used, will be removed, but if Steri-Strips used, will be allowed to self-dissolve, so will ask then re: nasal spray. Used walker provided throughout the house only, for 1-1/2 weeks. No travel anywhere until after graduating back to my oh-so-familiar cane (during 2 yrs of arthritis PAIN) coinciding w/the False Flag covid debacle + shutdown globally -- but THIS time - ZERO pain. You are provided (if on Medicare) a stiff nylon leg strap to assist in support of the surgical side when getting in/out of bed. Crappy appliance provided by hospital (to safely lower yourself to the typical LOW toilet's height) should be declined as is awkward and a better appliance is available - the one provided by Medicare has to be lifted off the toilet - so if family members are large or obese, are inconvenienced, whereas saw online there is a much more conducive (to everybody involved) one where its (in this case) frame is not placed OVER the toilet, inconveniencing to everyone else - but UNDER the toilet seat, and the frame is like McDonalds arches on either side of the toilet so do not restrict it, and ?think they can raise/lower height to accommodate patient, not interfere w/others in household. This info, along with proper equip. to safely get in/out of shower/tub and how to deal with shower curtain to not get floor wet/slippery are vitally important. Also, was not told until AFTER surgery that for the rest of one's life, prophylactic antibiotics MUST be taken prior to scheduling ANY DENTAL SURGERY. Why? The hip prosthesis is a foreign object; the human immune system - being what it is, if invaded by any kind of bodily infection, the beasties go straight to the foreign body (your fake hip/ball/socket). So be advised as I was not told this prior to surgery - not that it would have affected my decision (whether or not to do the total hip) as am ECSTATIC w/my results! Total hips are the most frequently done procedure in USA INC and the medical profession got their act together as very successful well-known statistics on total hip surg. results. The #1 failure is NOT the surgery but in being painfree - get cocky too soon (men play golf too soon) and FALL. Astonished by those allowed (guess younger) to walk w/a walker RIGHT OFF THE SURGERY BED. That sounds foolish to me, even if an athelete. Why go through such only to complicate REPAIR by falling because you no longer have pain? These prostheses are made of material where your REAL BONE cells will perfuse INTO the prosthesis itself OVER TIME making it stronger by fusing with it. So WHY compromise your future health by being disrespectful of the surgeon's skill/time and your own self-health? These prostheses now last 20 yrs and keep getting better and better. After returning to your home (if you have one) suggest looking into what I am doing for the next 3 months of "taking it slow." On UA-cam there are MUSICAL THERAPY videos where the Hertz (vibratory rate) are SPECIFIC to either a system (i.e., circulatory, SKELETAL, endocrine, etc.) or a bodily organ - liver, heart, lungs, etc.). Before going to sleep, listen to this music, as lengths vary but some play all night long. Efficacy how (using Hertz)? Just like lasers (which is LIGHT vibrating at a certain rate) is used surgically, certain HERTZ vibrate as (music) sound. I hope you found this info helpful. There are also a LOT of vids on UA-cam that not only mimic the procedure, but therapists to show what exercises will facilitate both pre- and postop recovery, and answer a LOT of other questions you might not think of to ask of your PCP or surgeon in consultation. Just watched a vid of a news broadcaster who wanted to report his own procedure to John Q Public while awake by declining sedation and was only given a spinal, thus awake/witnessed it all. He even felt the vibration (not pain) of the various tools used, saw, hammer, etc., to cut through the neck of the ball and socket. When my own physical therapist came to my caretaker's apartment, he related his own witnessing to a live total hip. He said rock-and-roll was blaring loudly, and bone fragments were being tossed over the surgeon's shoulders behind him so as to have nothing on the surgical suite's floor in his path. Hah! Like in the orig movie called MASH (mobile army surgical hospital) that prompted the zany and wildly popular [Korean War] TV series. Namaste'

    Just had second replacement and after 6 weeks feeling great. Really appreciate being able to see how this is done and now understand the resulting trauma to the area due to the process and appreciate the skill involved when dealing with all the added complexity of the body attached and getting the measurements right. Amazing how the body recovers after this invasive surgery.

      Paul, the body will heal itself by not compromising its ability to do so - my friend's mom at age 87 was booted out of independant living as an insurance risk due to too many falls. Upon buying a house w/help from 2 brothers, retired early to take care of her. She was horrified to learn that 25 of the 30 meds she was on were for a single problem - that of elimination! That's BIG PHARMA for ya! The other 5 were for end stage breast cancer (of which she was unaware) so working w/the mom's doctor, one by one got her off all 20 meds and found that a mug of nuked prune juice w/a pat of butter on top drunk B4 going to bed - made her regular as clockwork until she died 2 yrs later. BIG PHARMA is a national disgrace! Myself? Did hospital med transcription for 21 yrs and the elderly were on a minimum of 30 drugs monthly. Ka-Ching! Ka-Ching! When people start seeking out (which the medical AMA insurance will NOT cover) alternative certified medical physicians protocols as they do not interfere w/the body's ability to heal itself but focus on nutrients the body needs to do its job (instead of mask symptoms w/drugs). Healing will take a quantum leap into allowing the body (immune system) to protect the totality of its marvelously wonderous Self.

The normal hip replacement surgery looks pretty straightforward, but I hear surgeons express reservations in doing a hip replacement after a girdlestone procedure.

      hip replacement is statistically the most successful of joint operations. Also these OS do this kind of thing everyday. Im 5 weeks today since surgery. I dont have any pain anymore, I walk fine and I can drive etc.

    I have dysphasia (difficulty swallowing sometimes, genetic cause) but didn't mention it, not knowing anything about intubation, where a tube is inserted in your throat to assist breathing. The anterior hip operation was a month ago. I have been very hoarse since, and once my throat was so swollen that I couldn't even swallow liquids. Scary. So be aware that you have a choice--and needn't have general anesthesia, but a spinal instead. I am hoping whatever irritation/damage that was done heals soon and will never again risk an intubation.

    • @RUDEMASTER
      @RUDEMASTER Рік тому

      I definitely would like a spinal. But when I talk to my doctor about it. He says he can't tell my anestheologist what to do that. I'd have to ask him when i'd. Do it I had a really bad experience with Anesthesia the last time I had shoulder surgery

    • @ccmarcum
      @ccmarcum Рік тому +2

      Just for the record, I still have the raspiness/hoarseness in my voice and feel at times I have to force myself when speaking. Some days are worse than others and it helps to speak a lot during the day. Apparently, it is Russian Roulette when the tube is forced near your vocal cords--little control where it goes. Nobody warns you about this.

      I had this surgery 1 week ago. They give you meds to make your brain disconnect from what you hear and you feel nothing. I woke up during both hip surgeries (1st one 11yrs ago on other hip). When I woke I was just curious what was going on. The meds really make you not care and very relaxed. If you do wake up, they add meds to make you sleep again. It's all done through iv. Wake up feeling like you've had a great nap.
      It really is amazing how quickly you heal afterwards. Best wishes.

      It does crack,. My surgeon shattered my greater trochanter into "at least six pieces" he said. Had me in surgery, first trying a frontal, then a lateral revision and then a third incision from the posterior. He said it was like trying to put together a 3 dimensional puzzle blindfolded as he couldn't see because everything was buried in the three abbuctor muscles. That was 3 years ago. Every step I take today is a painful experience, about a 7 on a 10 scale. Can't do much more than about 80 yards w/o having to rest it.
