I'm Canadian we don't have black Friday, at Andorama they are selling package deal the Yamaha 3080 with 7 speakers Polks Lism series for $4300. Regular price $9200. My room is 1500 cubic feet, do you think it's Overkill? I was right into Home theater back when it first began then stop about 2002. Would this be to complex getting back into it? Not going to run Atmos. Also since the tower's give great bass, would I need a sub?
I have the RX-A3080 and found this video useful, hadn't seen it until now. You nailed it with your comments on the Yamaha apps. Yamaha has beat all the competitors in the user interface arena.
Own the 880a Love it so far and a Yamaha lover for sure, only gripe with Yamaha is you gotta find that sweet spot with volume lvl and then it really rocks and keeps me satisfied 👍🏽
Thqnk you for your fantastic reviews! I'm considering upgrade from Dali Zenzor 1 to Dali Rubicon 2 as main speakers but have not much space so I will stay with 5.1 home theater. Would you recommend Yamaha 2080? Especially for the sound quality or there's more convenient way of getting the same sound if it's 5.1 anyway?
Hi Channa, Fantastic work with your channel! I recently purchased the Yamaha Rx-A3080 and my question is; I don’t want to hook up my TV to my Yamaha AVR. Here’s what I had in mind and it would great if you could let me know if this would work. Can I plug in my laptop into one of the HDMI inputs on the AVR and use the HDMI 2 output port to plug a projector to my AVR? Would I still be able to configure/change settings etc. on the AVR using the projector? Again, no TV. Thanks a lot! 😊
We need you keep up the good work especially for us part time techs that just know enough to get by like me .Hey I got the Yamaha 2030 set up and looking to buy the 75” Sony xbr900f should I upgrade my receiver or can I get by for now with the 4K pass through ?
I have a RX-A870 and am wondering how to enable Dolby Atmos, there is nothing that indicates so. This unit appears to have the same operating system as mine, can anyone help?
I got a 7.1.2 yamaha RX-A1070BL open box from $300 which came with nothing but, yamaha 24x7 will sell you all the included stuff for cheap (less than $70). The apps made it bearable to use the AVR it was a life saver. How would compare ypao to the other room correction.
TechnoDad: thank you for this informative review, which played a big role in my decision to buy the Yamaha RX-A2080. This receiver is excellent for both music and movies and its versatility, I am pleased with it. Everything went well for a couple of months, until one issue came up, the Yamaha AV Controller App for my iPad stopped working and now it displays the message: "Unable to Connect to Device (Error ID: -1001)". The receiver is connected to my network via ethernet cable (CAT6). I deleted the app, re-installed it and entered the ISP address manually, same issue it does not connect. I appreciate if you have a tip to solve this problem, otherwise, I am going to reset the unit to factory settings and redo the whole set up (tedious...). Thank you!
Great review thankyou. I just bought a yamaha 2071 but dont see any dts logos lit up in the display window? Im running optic from blueray but im not sure if the amp is decodeding it or not? Any advice?
Dude, I watch your videos for the jump music in the beginning and at the very end. I love it. I don’t even watch it for the content...but just for the jump.
Just I saw your video - great job! I ordered the 2080, and can't wait. Then I started researching atmos - never had it before. So I got 1 set for the ceiling and a 2nd sub! But now not sure what to do for zone 2 & 3. I have 2 speakers in each of those zones. Should I jump to the 3080? That probably wouldn't handle that either. Should I get a 2 channel amp? If so, which one for < $500? With this new receiver and speakers, I am beyond the wife's budget!
I found this 4 channel amp on b&h - looks too good to be true. What do you think? www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1486992-REG/pyle_pro_pta42bt_wireless_karaoke_bluetooth_stereo.html
Great review. But not being able to run a 11.2 system at that price is a deal breaker. At least for me. Other than that I am sure it’s a very good AVR.
Hey techno dad, what's up from Taos New Mexico..... Thank you for all your great info. I've been a Yamaha fan since the early 90s . Klipsch Rocks my place in the tune of KGS 5.5s. got them from the Good Guys. I'm sure you remember that electronics store. Anyway thank you so much for all the great info.
What are the main differences between the 2080 and 3080? Im having a hard time deciding between the two and seeing if the 3080 is worth the significant price difference. Thank you for your reply :)
Why did the AVR detect your Heights at 10°? According to Dolby they should be at 30-60° horizontal...also...your YPAO mic looks different than mine...is there a different one for the US market?
You mention in the video that you’re running bookshelf main speakers and you need more power because you’re 14’ from the speakers and over 4,000 cu ft room. I don’t believe you need more power. You need floor standing speakers. I had klipsch bookshelf speakers with 6 1/2” woofer that filled my little city house living room nicely. My current house im 13’ from the front speakers and have roughly 4,700 cu ft of space. The bookshelf speakers couldn’t cut it. Upgraded to klipsch floorstanding speakers premium line with dual 8” woofers. They fill the room amazingly well and my current receiver is around 100w - 110w with 2 channels driven. I’d have to go look at the specs again. Speakers have more to do with it than power.
Hi, i am using rx a2050, any suggestions regarding upgrading to rx a2080, makes any sound difference from older to new model. Is it worthy or shud wait for feature models.
Hello Techno dad! Unfortunately, due to covid 19 I don't have the opportunity to listen to receivers sound signature. I want to setup a system for my living room including dining room next to it it is about 2100 cubic feet and I am considering 2 svs prime bookshelfs and center for front and 2 prime satellites as surrounds, and 2 prime elevations for dolby atmos. Considering no external amplification (you think I will need?), which receiver do you think is the best? (70% movies, 30% music). My budget is around 1000-1500 . 1) Denon 3700h (Very good features, poor sound quality with music?) 2)Marantz 6015 (More warmer sound , but not crisp?- better quality than the denon?) 3)Yamaha 2080 ( Very good reviews about sound quality but lucks power -> bad preout voltage) 4) NAD AV 7.1 T 758 V3 (Very good calibration, not many features ?) Maybe better to wait for new Yamaha Onkyo and Pioneers? Really confused, pls help!
I'm thinking of upgrading from A3010 to this one. But I'm hesitant only cause I run a 5.1 ML motion setup. Atmos is not yet in my radar. I've thought about going 7.1 for HD but my living room is not adequate for it. Great vid!
You mention a lack of power as a downside. Do you mean lack of power when all channels are driven? Does the Denon 3600 provide more power than the Yamaha 2080 with all channels driven? Im trying to upgrade to a receiver to power my hungry Polk LSIM 707s and 706C in a 7.1.2 surround system.
I have the Yamaha RX-V683BL and I’m having trouble with getting the receiver to display the audio source pass-through on the screen of the receiver, how does this work?
Can you run an external amplifier for your ear level speakers and still run the 4 heights for Atmos using the internal amplifier? The reason I ask is that there are no pre outs for height channels on this receiver. I currently use this receiver in a 5.2.4 configuration, but want to add an external amp. I’ve seen your video on adding an external amp for your Denon AVR. You didn’t seem to have to change any settings within the receiver. Do pre-outs just work, or do you have to enable them in the receiver? I would hate to purchase an amplifier and not be able to use it. Any info would be great!!! As always thanks great vid and information.
Hi! Great question Javon. Yes, you can power ear level speakers with an external amp and run the Atmos speakers off the AVR. That’s what I did when I had this Yamaha in my rack. As I recall there were no settings to change. Most preouts are always active unless there is a specific circumstance when they are not. If you get an amp and have issues you can always email me - technodad55 at gmail.
Hey techno dad I know in general you dont want to mix speakers but could I use the svs prime elevation speakers for atmos with all my other referance premier klipsch?
do you know if we can use the A2080 or A3080 as a pre/pro only? i have 2 external amps (a 5 channel and a 4 channel). i dont see the configuration in the menu for this setup.
Hello John! I haven’t had the Marantz in for review but would imagine they sound great. $1,300 sounds like a good deal! The SR7015 was just released so also look for a 7014.
Please, let me know, in 3:49 in this post video, how you set only two speakers? I have RX-A1080 and i can't do it. In both patters show me 5.1 set speakers. Thank you in advance.
Chamba? Can you do a video on calibration with a sound tool and also a video on settings for the Onkyo equalizers nr676 PLEASE... you seen my other comments I’m a newbie dobbie
@@TechnoDad Simple Bro Actually in my India Country The price difference for Rxa 2080 is 2000 Usd" and For the Nad T 778 asking price is 4000 usd" So which be a Great choice on Performance and Worthy investment your suggestion please 😊
My fronts are in 60hz, surrounds in 80hz, Atmos speakers in 120hz. Now back to the Surround AI mode, it seems to me that this is some kind of enhance dynamic compression. BTW did you tested with Ultras or the RF 7III? KUDOS FOR YOU!!!
Hi! Yeah, that’s what I think it has to be as well. Dynamic compression and maybe limiting as well by frequency range? Not 100% sure. I did not test with the RF7IIIs, but I did with the Ultra Bookshelfs.
Hi Techno Dad: I did a bit of more research regarding Yamaha’s "Surround AI". When this feature is active, the DSP analyze each channel 5 times per second in real time. I believe this is an advantage over the current Dynamic Range Compression found in Dolby’s codec, which it controls the difference between soft and loud sounds but it doesn’t control dialogue clarity. In theory, since the Surround AI DSP has the ability to analyze and adapt the sound output per channel, each part of the soundtrack can be enhance without affecting the overall volume and detail instead of been locked all the time like DRC does when Dolby Digital/ DD+ or True HD is engaged . For example like you explain on your video, dialogue can be heard clearly even when all channels are engaged in hot action scenes. Yamaha receivers are well known by their DSP processing, this something that Yamaha has been perfecting for years since the dawn of Home Theater in the early 90’s. If Surround AI grabs people attention I will not be surprised that Denon, Marantz and other brands creates a similar adaptation with their own proprietary technology.
Hello, I need your help by understanding how musiccast works with main, zone2 and zone3 simultaneously in Yamaha MusicCast RX-A2080 receiver. I`m searching the system that is capable to do "multitasking". For example: 1. If I`m watching in main zone 4k blue-ray with Dolby Atmos and my wife wants to listen music from NAS server or phone in zone2 and the same time can I play some video to zone3 for kids from nas or streaming device. Or any other config: main zone - CD, zone2 - internet radio, zone3 - video form local NAS server? Is there some restrictions or limitations? P.S. Yes I read the user manual and I`m confused and I do not have where to ask for help(local store). Can you make a video please?
I have an old Sony av 777ES beast doesn’t have WiFi or other new streaming capabilities but have power 155wpc with 5.2 dsp and I like it a lot I am not using for any tv it’s just for music anyway I love these new av ht amps they have very cool features
Hello friend, I follow your channel a lot and I am delighted ... I wanted to know your opinion about marantz sr7013 which is my current avr using it as a previous stage with emotional stages! Yamaha 3080 think it is superior to the marantz. sr7013 + emotive in cinema ?? and finally he loves the 3d auro the sound is past and I would love to be able to try an anthem mrx720..health from Spain
@@TechnoDad If you still have it it should say on the back under the serial number. Hi I want to ask something i have an old av amp without internet connectivity WiFi or BT and I wanted to listen to internet music I have WiFi at home and I listen to online internet radio with my phone what are my chances to listen to music without cables ? Thank you cheers
I recently purchased Marantz SR6013, how would you compare that against the Marantz? SR6013 is a amazing sounding AVR! I see the Yamaha is $100 more then the Marantz! I would have to say the Marantz sr6013 has a huge advantage over the Yamaha!
Forget about how each is calibrated... I’m going to use an SPL meter to calibrate everything to my needs... with that said which one gives better immersive sound
@@TechnoDad you didnt even answer his simple question , he wasnt talking about the yapo audio setup he wanted to know which has the better surround sound .
Hey Techno Dad, and thanks for all the helpful tips here. I JUST founds out that you can't get to 7.2.4 with the 2080. I'd be happy with 7.2.2 with rear presence (VS Front) but that's not an option, and with both outputs present, you wonder how complicated it would have been to give the choice between one and the other??? Seriously Yamaha....
What's the difference between an AVR and AVC I see it always when buying receivers. Like the Denon AVR-X8500h and AVC-X8500h. No one seems to know and I've asked a lot of different youtubers even TD
I have the yamaha 2070 and my only beef is when watching movies the centre channel seems to go up and down in volume and at times dialogue is barely audible, i have used the dialogue lift and while that does address that issue it also makes other background noised like footsteps and wind in the trees sound unnatural, two channel music is great and even better in pure direct( i am using a primare a32 for driving my mains), but i think my next upgrade is going to be marantz either the sr8012 or the av8805.
Hello, I have the RX-A2040 and I am not getting any sound when I turn on Dolby Atmos on the Apple TV 4k 32GB. When I turn Atmos off (back to 5.1) on the Apple TV, the sound track reappears on the Yamaha. The Apple TV is connected directly to the Yamaha RX A2040 via ultra-high-speed HDMI. I am using a 7.1.2 speaker set up (front presence speakers set up as Dolby enabled speakers in layout). Firmware updated to 1.98. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan
Thanks for the getting to point quickly. My questions is If I want to hear just stereo music will the subwoofer work with the front left and right speakers on
Hello techno dad, I have a question hoping you can answer. I just bought an LG OLED C9 to use with my Xbox one x, but in order to get vrr and allm, I need to plug the console straight to my TV and then get arc (HDMI) to my Onkyo 575 . The problem is that I can't get uncompressed audio. I think because my Onkyo receiver didn't have eARC. Is there a way to workaround this situation? Or if I upgrade to an Onkyo rz830 which has an update to support eARC I get the problem solved? The thing is that the setup menu on the Xbox gets me an error that the TV can't decode uncompressed. Was wondering if it's because of the lack of eARC on my current receiver or it just can't be worked this way. Sorry for the long message. ( I already tried using atmos bitstream and get Dolby atmos via ddplus, BUT it has major delay.). Thanks so much in advance .
I finally took mine out of the box and hooked it up and had to take it in for repair but I have to say the rx3070 was a improvement over my rx 750. I have old mirage speakers and always felt they were underpowered, I was right. I had polks and the mirages as front speakers and the 3070 makes them sing. I am hearing instruments in song that even my 2100 could not pick up
No need to get to spend over 1500. Just use the reciver as a processor and buy an additional power amp.. and I will sound much better then an expensive receiver
X3080 is about that much $. But as @Yuriy mentioned you just hook up an amp and that will last long after your replace your receiver plus it will sound better.

Hey Techno Dad. How does this 2080 stand compared to a Marantz 7013? And if you could get that 7013 new a stock authorized dealer for around $1300.
Hello John! I haven’t had the Marantz in for review but would imagine they sound great. $1,300 sounds like a good deal! The SR7015 was just released so also look for a 7014.
Is there value in using the MusicCast with wired speakers?
Please, let me know, in 3:49 in this post video, how you set only two speakers? I have RX-A1080 and i can't do it. In both patters show me 5.1 set speakers. Thank you in advance.
Hi! Set it up as 5.1 and then switch it to stereo or direct and you’ll be setup for only two speakers.
@@TechnoDad Thank you, very much Sir !
Subbed. Thanks for the video I just got a good deal on a rx-a3080 and your video was very helpful.
Awesome!
How much did you spend ?

Добрый день ! Насколько сильно отличается yamaha rx-a2080 от rx-a3080 ? И надо ли мне жалеть о том что я купил 2080 ? Использую систему 5.1
Hi Techno Dad" Actually which Acr is Great Choice Say Nad T758 V3 or This Aventage Rx 2080" your feedback please
Hi! If you were looking at NAD, try the T778. I think it would be better than the A2080.
@@TechnoDad Simple Bro Actually in my India Country The price difference for Rxa 2080 is 2000 Usd" and For the Nad T 778 asking price is 4000 usd" So which be a Great choice on Performance and Worthy investment your suggestion please 😊
Another great video.. keep it up
Thank you!
Hello, I need your help by understanding how musiccast works with main,
zone2 and zone3 simultaneously in Yamaha MusicCast RX-A2080 receiver.
I`m searching the system that is capable to do "multitasking". For
example: 1. If I`m watching in main zone 4k blue-ray with Dolby Atmos
and my wife wants to listen music from NAS server or phone in zone2 and
the same time can I play some video to zone3 for kids from nas or
streaming device. Or any other config: main zone - CD, zone2 - internet
radio, zone3 - video form local NAS server? Is there some restrictions
or limitations?
P.S. Yes I read the user manual and I`m confused and I do not have where
to ask for help(local store).
Can you make a video please?
I'm between this receiver, the Denon AVR 3600 H and the Onkyo TXRZ840. Anyone with input would be appreciated.
Hi, pls lease how does it sound compared with Sony STRDN1080?
I have an old Sony av 777ES beast doesn’t have WiFi or other new streaming capabilities but have power 155wpc with 5.2 dsp and I like it a lot I am not using for any tv it’s just for music anyway I love these new av ht amps they have very cool features
Time to sale that sony and get a real avr such as Yamaha Denon Marantz. Sony is a toy get with tge big boys.
Is the on-screen UI for this receiver in high-def?
What are your settings for your parametric EQ? I changed speakers and can't seem to get the EQ right this time
I don’t think I changed any EQ after YPAO calibration
Speaking of EQ; do you know what intervals are between the frequencies you can adjust manually? Fixed 1/3 octave steps or 1dB increments et c?
Do you have any idea If this is manufactured in Malaysia or Japan?
No idea...
@@TechnoDad If you still have it it should say on the back under the serial number. Usually they have their cheap models made in China, mid-level made in Malaysia, and the top of the line ones like this made in Japan but on their website since it doesn't have a serial number I can't see a picture of where it's made
Hi I want to ask something i have an old av amp without internet connectivity WiFi or BT and I wanted to listen to internet music I have WiFi at home and I listen to online internet radio with my phone what are my chances to listen to music without cables ? Thank you cheers
Hi! Have you tried a BT receiver? Check this one out: amzn.to/2Wn1cPU
I recently purchased Marantz SR6013, how would you compare that against the Marantz?
SR6013 is a amazing sounding AVR! I see the Yamaha is $100 more then the Marantz!
I would have to say the Marantz sr6013 has a huge advantage over the Yamaha!
Is there no setting for LFE or LPF crossover? How does the AVR work LFE crossover out?
Not sure, let me check it out
Hey techno dad would u prefer Yamaha rx 2080 over the denon x3600h
The RX2080 is pretty great! They both should have majority of the same features. I think the DAC in the Yamaha might be better.
I watched a video of kpace guy telling u which auto calibration is better audyssey came 1st then mcacc 2nd n ypao 3rd which would you prefer
Does the Yamaha rx-3080 have better audio processing than the Marantz SR8012. Which one has better Surround sound immersive ness?
Hi! I would prefer Audyssey over YPAO.
It has more powerful DACs but Audyssey is better.
Great review man! Great looking unit! Surround AI sounds cool.
question : why does my yamaha avr rx470 does not sound with 2 channel on floor standing speakers only with no sub
Hi! Not sure. What settings do you have on? Pure Direct?
Hey Techno Dad, and thanks for all the helpful tips here. I JUST founds out that you can't get to 7.2.4 with the 2080. I'd be happy with 7.2.2 with rear presence (VS Front) but that's not an option, and with both outputs present, you wonder how complicated it would have been to give the choice between one and the other??? Seriously Yamaha....
Only 5.1.4
I believe it's good AVR, but for that price I choose Denon X6500H :)
Vitalijus Sivakovas same, I have the Denon X6500H and it’s simply the best receiver I’ve ever owned!
Do I think the Yamaha receivers are better then pionner elite?
Yes.
To me marantz sr8012 is the way to go for full 7.2.4 Notting added or if You want to get crazy buy Denon AVC-X8500H that Can 7.2.6
What's the difference between an AVR and AVC I see it always when buying receivers. Like the Denon AVR-X8500h and AVC-X8500h. No one seems to know and I've asked a lot of different youtubers even TD
@@harkisingh I always thought AVC was the European models
Avc means no radio tuner
I have the yamaha 2070 and my only beef is when watching movies the centre channel seems to go up and down in volume and at times dialogue is barely audible, i have used the dialogue lift and while that does address that issue it also makes other background noised like footsteps and wind in the trees sound unnatural, two channel music is great and even better in pure direct( i am using a primare a32 for driving my mains), but i think my next upgrade is going to be marantz either the sr8012 or the av8805.
Oh ok thanks guys
Hello, I have the RX-A2040 and I am not getting any sound when I turn on Dolby Atmos on the Apple TV 4k 32GB. When I turn Atmos off (back to 5.1) on the Apple TV, the sound track reappears on the Yamaha. The Apple TV is connected directly to the Yamaha RX A2040 via ultra-high-speed HDMI. I am using a 7.1.2 speaker set up (front presence speakers set up as Dolby enabled speakers in layout). Firmware updated to 1.98. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan
My Dad was looking for a wireless solution like that... Great video
How do get atmos or dts x on the receiver display??
Jorge Toledo I am wondering the same thing did you figure it out?
There's a display button on the front of the AVR.
Thanks for the getting to point quickly.
My questions is If I want to hear just stereo music will the subwoofer work with the front left and right speakers on
Hi Mario! Great question! You have to make sure LFE+Main is on so that your sub will get all bass frequencies while in two channel mode.
Hi Techno Dad. Any chance you can review yamaha cxa5200 with mxa5200?
They may or may not send that to me. Not sure...
Will it play MQA from TIDAL?
I'm not 100% sure about that.
Any info on the TCL tv's with IMAX ENHANCED

What is main difference in Marntz avr Yamaha avr
rahul amate the calibration system that each use is different. Marantz tend to run a little warmer than Yamaha also. I like both.

finally. i have the rx3070 which is the same thing lol
I finally took mine out of the box and hooked it up and had to take it in for repair but I have to say the rx3070 was a improvement over my rx 750. I have old mirage speakers and always felt they were underpowered, I was right. I had polks and the mirages as front speakers and the 3070 makes them sing. I am hearing instruments in song that even my 2100 could not pick up
comon man, if a movie is mixed well there is not need for surround
Hello sir...
What is the best av receiver to n $2000
No need to get to spend over 1500. Just use the reciver as a processor and buy an additional power amp.. and I will sound much better then an expensive receiver
@@joelkuznetsov2826 maybe he want the new features that his old one doesnt have.
X3080 is about that much $. But as @Yuriy mentioned you just hook up an amp and that will last long after your replace your receiver plus it will sound better.
Can u do 7.1.2 ?
Yes it does 7.1.2 and 5.1.4
Yep it does 7.2.2 and 5.2.4

How is the musicast as back surround wirelessly? Any delay?
I've used it on the much cheaper RX-V685 with a pair of musiccast 20s, and much to my suprise, no delay I can tell whatsoever.
