The VRR/QMS/QFT firmware is done and it's already working. The reason it is not out yet is because Yamaha is waiting for an official certification for those features to be passed. Unlike some (you-know-who) other manufacturers that passed through those features without certification and then faced a shit ton of issues when their products were already out in the market (*hint* separate HDMI box lul? *wink), Yamaha prefers to have absolute 100% certainty everything is working and certified before releasing a public firmware update. For example: Go to 13:06. Then set the first 4 bands to +3.0db and leave Q as is because that's wayyy to complicated and advanced to get into. Finally set and also increase the last 3 bands to between +4db and +5db. Listen, listen, listen to before and after!!! You can play with that but definitely increase from the stock 0db gain EQ setting. Then you can increase your subwoofers 1 and 2 gain about +3 for all the 4 EQ bands.. Again that's give and take.. I'd like to recommend an ARCAM HDR unit. It a high-performance AVR. As well Dirac Live room correction (@no extra charge), the ARCAM AVR20 also has an audiophile grade dac, a huge toroidal transformer, non-of-the-shelf (specially sourced) resistors & capacitors, plus a toroid amplifier. The arcam avr20 has very convincing realistic analogue sound (non-digital sounding), plus the unit is so well balanced, unlike the three mid-price Japanese AVR's I happen to audition, not only does it sound good at low volume, when watching a movie and the sound dynamics change. No more having to reach for the remote control. In fact, I can't recall EVER having to reach for the remote control! And to think cos it's successor, the ARCAM AVR 21 has now been released for quite a while. One can now purchase the avr20 for nearly half price (£2,000) It's the best sounding AVR I've heard to date.
Hello Shane lee can you tell me on the A8A or A6A under hdmi control standby sync ON or AUTO? also under standby through ON or AUTO?. thank you. great content as always.🙏.
You probably know this now but it’s a plastic top overlaid over a metal top panel. Yamaha seemed to really focus on structural rigidity on this model especially.
Can someone kindly confirm how the HDMI outputs works. do all three of them support HDMI 2.1, can you mirror on all of them, can you select different inputs to three different outputs and when selected to different outputs, do they cap the bandwidth to 4K like what Denon, Onkyo, Marantz etc. does?
Hey Shane, another solid review! If you were going with an AVR at this point, would you purchase and be happier with the A8A or the NAD T778? Also, any chance of an upcoming Anthem MRX 740 or 1140 review?
I was looking at the same models, t778 a8 and 740 and went with the a8 for reliability in the end. Got sick of hearing people in the forums moan about the fans (t778 and 740) and the bugs that kept popping up (t778) I suppose its about room eq as well but ypao sounds pretty good in my room, although I've never had arc or Dirac which are supposed to be superior but then having the peq's and the other customisables does make it easy(ish) to change it to your tastes. Definitely not disappointed and happy with my choice.
@@slyfoxx8540 Thanks for sharing your experience. Years ago I had a Yamaha RX-V3300 that was, IMO, insanely good. It didn't have HDMI inputs so I changed to a Denon. Agreed, GUI does not display correctly with Dolby Vision content. I had lip sync issues too, but realised my blu ray player was set to NTSC intead of PAL (Australia) Using 'Processing" on HDMI also causes eARC issues
I prefer Yamaha because of Dialog Lift (center speaker voice below the TV gets rised from level 1-5, so the voice comes from the TV), the DSP programs and because I like the brand because they make good E-pianos.
cannot get this receiver to receiver display ATMOS when watching ATMOS content, even with 11 speakers and 2 subs. everything is set to auto and new correct hdmi cables. You can hear the ATMOS but don't see it on the receiver display
I don't own a Yamaha receiver, but have you checked your TV sound settings are on bitstream. If you are using a disc player, output the audio as bitstream too, then you are sending it "as is" and leaving it up to the receiver to decode the audio. If you choose to have the player output the audio as pcm, then you are asking the player to decode the audio before it sends it to the receiver. For What It's Worth, I hope this helps. Good luck, my fellow listener.
I would avoid anything with 8k until they fix the Panasonic chip All these mid range receives use the same faulty chip. Nothing is coming out in true 8k anyway. Its a total farce IMO. More bandwidth for high end gaming but really that’s it. I would rather have a better receiver without 8k.
Purchased the A8 before the Auro 3d firmware update hoping the Auro matic upsampling would include implementation of vog channel. I have Auro speaker configuration for 11.1 but now it seems the vog can't be utilized. Do you have any recommendations on how to setup the A8 for vog channel assignment?
It’s not about the “look”. The volume control is centred because of the new H-frame design to reduce vibrations in the unit . For practical reasons, this is why the control knob is centred

Briefly considered this one, but went with the NAD T778 instead. I prefer Class D, don't need more than 4K passthrough as it's being hooked up on my 1440p extra PC monitor for my office setup, and the Yamaha is just way too big to fit without making drastic modifications to my desk setup. And last but not least, the NAD has Dirac, which the Yamaha does not. I'm sure the Yamaha is a great receiver though.
I use to have the Yamaha A8A, but I had to return it because it was missing a lot of updates at that time. I remember when I try to set it up I ran into a lot of problems because of the missing update it made it nearly impossible to teak it correctly. In the long run, I ended up buying the Marantz SR-8015 & the Denon AVR-8500HA, and I'm very happy with their performance on Home Theater & Music. Plus, they didn't need a lot of updates to set them up either. I use to be a big Yamaha fan, but when I discovered the Marantz & Denon sound its been on turning back since I 'm very happy with their overall performance.

Yes the stand have to be set assembled the whole time with the height pole, It was spot on in my A8, but stubborn (wouldn’t let me adjusted manually after making some seat adjustments, have to run the whole thing again)
Have u compared this to the Denon x4700h? If so, in your opinion, which one sounds cleaner movie watching? I’m having trouble deciding. I’ve heard the 4700h and it sounds amazing, not sure about Yamaha. I’m looking to upgrade my Yamaha TSR-700 as it has a “crowded” sound as if my room is small eventho it’s bigger than my brothers living room which he has the Denon and his living room sounds bigger than it really is. I feel the TSR700 is having trouble bringing out the low ends, and while I know A6A and A8A is a higher class, just don’t want to be disappointed.
I was debating between the 4700h and a6a. Herd both. To me yamaha sounded more fuller in music 🎶 don't forget they are world leading in professional audio instruments/commercial audio equipment. Way too much plastic on this receiver. Not digging the overall aesthetics. Yamaha dropped the ball on that. There's nothing wrong with having a metal front plate and knobs on the side. And to think cos it's successor, the ARCAM AVR 21 has now been released for quite a while. One can now purchase the avr20 for nearly half price (£2,000)
It's the best sounding AVR I've heard to date.
Is it good to pair Yamaha with Klipsch speakers or Marantz?
Hey there! I will be getting the a6a model...Q: would you still get a power amplifier to run my Elec Unifi UF5 4 oh speakers ??
Review the onkyo rz50...you know... Something that is a little affordable
The metal frame on top is under the plastic cover
But is the top plastic?
Think that remote goes back at least since the xx70 series. Have that remote for my TSR 7850.
The last one I remember having was a silver one with a flip out door. That was a very long time ago though. Can’t remember the model though.
@@therealshanelee Remember that as well. I bought a 3040 last summer off marketplace that had that style remote.
Awesome review. I wonder how it would handle a (not as crazy setup as yours) smaller 11 channel speaker setup?
Hello Shane lee can you tell me on the A8A or A6A under hdmi control standby sync ON or AUTO? also under standby through ON or AUTO?. thank you. great content as always.🙏.
Thanks for the video. Receiver was very nice.
You probably know this now but it’s a plastic top overlaid over a metal top panel. Yamaha seemed to really focus on structural rigidity on this model especially.
i reset the ypoa setup, it sounds far better doing it by ear
Can someone kindly confirm how the HDMI outputs works. do all three of them support HDMI 2.1, can you mirror on all of them, can you select different inputs to three different outputs and when selected to different outputs, do they cap the bandwidth to 4K like what Denon, Onkyo, Marantz etc. does?
Hey Shane, another solid review! If you were going with an AVR at this point, would you purchase and be happier with the A8A or the NAD T778? Also, any chance of an upcoming Anthem MRX 740 or 1140 review?
Well the NAD is only 9 channels this is 11. I have more than 9.
I was looking at the same models, t778 a8 and 740 and went with the a8 for reliability in the end. Got sick of hearing people in the forums moan about the fans (t778 and 740) and the bugs that kept popping up (t778)
I suppose its about room eq as well but ypao sounds pretty good in my room, although I've never had arc or Dirac which are supposed to be superior but then having the peq's and the other customisables does make it easy(ish) to change it to your tastes. Definitely not disappointed and happy with my choice.
@@slyfoxx8540 Thanks for sharing your experience. Years ago I had a Yamaha RX-V3300 that was, IMO, insanely good. It didn't have HDMI inputs so I changed to a Denon. At first, I was shocked at how thin it sounded compared to the Yamaha, but I've gotten used to the sound over the years. I guess the newest version of YPAO actually handles bass pretty well so I may have to consider an A6A!
@@cafiveohsrockbandremix9254 yeah I've been very happy with mine, but it's always an option with the right place to test whichever one your looking at and if you're not happy you can return it within the return period, it does give you peace of mind.
@@therealshanelee Hey! How to connect XLR subwoofers to this avr?
I have not the money for a Trinnov Altitude 32 and McIntosh Amps. But I own a Electrocompaniet ECM-1 MKII, EC 4.8 MKII and two AW180 Monos. It`s "only" Stereo, but it sounds quite well, also for movies. Greetz from Switzerland.
I like your table under your tv screen.
Hi, i have seen your yamaha a8a review also I owned a yamaha rx-v483 receiver but want to upgrade to a newer version. So, after the review if you still have this receiver then can you please let me know if it is worth buying this time after more than 1 yr if launch.....thanks in advance.
figured it out with the front program button
i want to buy some AVR nowdays for movies music and also XBOX Series X with LG G2 tv .. what you thnik marantz SR 8015 or this yamaha?
Been having trouble with lipsync . GUI is not friendly as older amps. Been able to use Denon amp with ease. All lipsync settings been set to default.
Agreed, GUI does not display correctly with Dolby Vision content. I had lip sync issues too, but realised my blu ray player was set to NTSC intead of PAL (Australia) Using 'Processing" on HDMI also causes eARC issues
Hi Shane, between the Yamaha A8A and Denon X6700H, which you think is best for 7.2.4 without separates amps?
same question!
Nice review..sorry if you mentioned it but is remote back-lit?
No
I have the 3080 and its backlit and I'm pretty sure the A6A and A8A also have backlit remotes given its almost the same.
yes it is
I have the A8A and the remote is beautifully backlited and turns on by itself when you grab it.
Yes it’s back-lit, and motion triggered!
But the motion trigger wasn’t as sensitive as like say a Shield Tv remote…
Muito bom o vídeo Shane 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Exceptionally detailed review, thanks.
Unfortunately the new YAMAHA AVR designs are horrible.
- Why the "cyclops look" YAMAHA ? Worst designed AVRs ever... But, why ?
It’s not about the “look”. The volume control is centred because of the new H-frame design to reduce vibrations in the unit . For practical reasons, this is why the control knob is centred
Awesome review! It's possible to review the onkyo TXRZ50 and check if he can go to reference level's?
thx for this review realy handy
Can I calibrate the 2 subwoofers independently?
yes
@@3184Patrick How do you do that? I wasn't able to do it successfully.
@@jackc8120 when your in manual setup you setup for two subs. Can pick left/right or front rear. Setup as mono then go to automatic setup. When ypao runs it will test both subs.
Adaptive DSP Level on or off?
The plastic top and front are cosmetic ... Has a thick metal top under the plastic top ... Same on the front ... The remote is back lit ... Just a few facts that weren't correct ...
yep
So the top is indeed plastic as well as the front. So that is not incorrect. This sample has been around to many reviewers so the backlight wasn’t working. Plus I didn’t mention it does not have backlight in the video. You may want to rewatch and get your facts straight.
@@therealshanelee the metals below the plastic isn't it?
@@therealshanelee ... Shane maybe you should go back and read ya comment about the remote be backlighted ... Someone asked you that question and you replied ... NO ... @@rainman3269 you still don't know how to pay attention. My remote didnt have back light. The rest is all fact. What don't you comprehend? Go back and pay attention and stop being emotional.
Nice
You did the angle height measurement WRONG. For the 4th measurement, the mic should be placed at the the height ABOVE measurements 1 through 3 ( use t he Included bar).
You are correct it does go on the included stand. But if you payed attention to the video "SHORTENED VERSION OF YPAO TO SAVE TIME" appears on screen.
Hey, man. You forgot to leave a link to YOUR video on how to do it correctly. Just sayin’………
Yes the stand have to be set assembled the whole time with the height pole, It was spot on in my A8, but stubborn (wouldn’t let me adjusted manually after making some seat adjustments, have to run the whole thing again)
I always love Yamaha receivers vs pioneer elite, I would like to know if this model carries Ai surround sound
I have the RX-A6A and it indeed does have Ai Surround. I keep it on for most of my daily listening and disable it for 2 channel sources.
Yamaha physically looks more modern, it's heavier, more furniture proof, has stereo balanced inputs, awesome analog preamp when connecting separate amp
@@joelkuznetsov2826 all the reasons you have stated is why I am leaning towards Yamaha, and looking modern is icing on the cake. My current setup is 5.2.2 with the rear ceiling speakers doubling up as F. Presence (not a true 5.2.4). Since my post, I have rearrange my Main Speakers and subs, sounds way better, but I feel like once I upgrade I’ll be even happier. When I upgrade I will be doing true 5.2.4 (2 subs). They are so expensive still.

Noone cares about auro, you may want to not worry about them given the bankruptcy. Garbage anyhow.
@@WoLShiverify Anyone who throws out an opinion without basing anything in fact is asking to be ignored. Didn't know about the bankruptcy though, that's too bad.
@@sirjared21 I have 141 4k movies. 9 have auro. Gene @audio says himself it's practically a 9ch stereo. Based on my f4k films alone, I can confidently say noone cares, and by noone I can say very very few people, enough to not even add it.
Nothing wrong with this receiver at the mid FI level for 11.2
@@WoLShiverify I knew it was only big in Europe but the fact Auro doesn't compress the audio signal (like dtsx & Atmos) and the fact it has the upmixer which can even work on stereo movies/shows really sounded great. Plus I watched a few popular audio reviewers who all had great things to say about it.
So the fact you say it's garbage really just tells me you've made up your mind without doing objective comparisons.
No Voice of God channel at this price range? Is that something that can be done in a firmware update? I'd be looking elsewhere if not. Great review as always!

Yamaha seriously lacks good Visual implementation in an AVR.
The top grill , a cosmetic-only grill, is plastic . HOWEVER, a sturdy metal grill is hidden underneath 😀
Doesn’t change the fact it’s all plastic.
@@therealshanelee Well you said “grills” which is PLURAL and that you were “surprised” Yamaha had gone with plastic. Of course, you can argue the outer shell is all plastic , which it is . But if you are mentioning a “surprise” it goes to a quality inference and therefore a mention of an internal metal grill would have been appropriate and prevent numerous comments by others making same comment as I have 😀
@@movieflicktube they have not had a flagship avr with a plastic enclosure/ grills
before. Hence me being surprised. The numerous comments stating theres metal underneath. So what. I did not discuss the inner design elements. Fact of the matter is. It's plastic on the outside. I'm sure you understand that and what is being said in the video.
@@movieflicktube I totally agree with you! This spare change reviewer is extremely thin skinned.
Exactly, who argues it's metal underneath when your point is how they yamaha have mega cheaped out compared to previous adventage designs for 10 years.
I Never buy egain a Yamaha , becase remote control last less than two years probably and you just have access to all functions thru it.
Too much gimmicks Yamaha needs a Z11 replacement well overdue
Way too much plastic on this receiver. Not digging the overall aesthetics. Yamaha dropped the ball on that. There's nothing wrong with having a metal front plate and knobs on the side. Looks way better than this. Display is tiny too. I'm sure its a great performer but it wouldnt look good in my theater room.
It runs bt 4.2, it's a joke or something, their 3 last models ALL used bt 4.2, even though bt 5 has been out since 2016
@@HomeAutomated-v2r yea they need to get their shit together. they didnt even HAVE blutooth on some of their models when it had been in existence for a while already.
I just can't get past their interface and GUI. They are just terrible. Who thought it was a good idea to hide what Surround you are using? If it's in Atmos or DTS:X, I want it to display that. Not just say "Surround Decoder"
You can always check the info screen.
You have to change it in settings then its on the display the whole time.
Yamaha are slowly backing out of their top end adventage systems imo.
2:57 umm
Surround:AI was great on the RX-A3080 but the severely lacking YPAO RoomEQ and the fact that Yamaha doesn't make anything with an adequate number of channels for my 7.2.6 Setup takes Yamaha out of the equation for me...🤷♂️
