Caught him with this band at the Fillmore in S.F., several years ago. Charlie just sat in the background and drove the band. What a CLASSY and talented man. He will be GREATLY missed!
This show aired during my peak interest in big band music and I well remember watching it on TV. As soon as I was able to find a copy, I bought the LP, and it's one of my favourites to this day - still never tire of listening! Thanks for the upload of this, a wonderful trip down memory lane, and one of the most epic performances of Flying Home ever! RIP, Charlie.
Well, I've arrived here after watching the BBC film, 'My Life as a Rolling Stone', on Charlie Watts. You never know where life is going to take you next!
Dave Green, Annie Whitehead, Chris Pyne, Don Weller, Ron Matthewson, Dick Pearce, Stan Tracey, Bobby Wellins, John Stevens, Alan Skidmore, Elton Dean, Peter King, Bill Eyden, Evan Parker, Courtney Pine. That's about the best I can do at this time of night. I'm not very good on trumpet players.
Came here while watching Gail on linked great interview.... she sang in the Charlie Watts band, didnt play bass. Sure looks like her. In the interview she talks a bit about it at time 13 minutes 34 seconds in. ua-cam.com/video/tp2VBPOY9DU/v-deo.html

What a find and what a delight from a big big band with great soloists. I regret not seeing the band at the time.
no problem
saw him at the park west in Chicago one of my nicest evenings of my life
Saw this band in Boston around this time when they toured the States. Played a small club best known for rock and alternative shows.
Which club?
@@G8GT364CI The Channel.

Vale Charlie.
This performance was issued on LP at the time. I don't think it's on CD or digital yet - someone please pick it up!
It was also released on cd and tape, but a very limited release.
The geezer playing alto with the check shirt looks like Nelson Rangell

@@bobpatrick131 Don't think so just been checking out Gail Ann Dorsey stuff and I'm pretty sure it's GAD.
if you haven't heard GAD doing "Under Pressure" with Bowie check it out. She rules on vocals and bass.

Why the second - and third - drummers/drum sets?
I suspect its a bit like Roy Orbison used to say about his retinue "they need the work".
Because it covers CWs inadequate technique as a jazz musician. Sorry!
One of them played on Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum
Think how much it must have cost to keep that band supplied with beer?
Who is the woman who sings ‘you’ve changed’?
That. was Julie Dennis. The other singer bears a superficial resemblance to Gail Ann Dorsey but I don't think its her.
Thanks
@@bobpatrick131 It is her.
Dorsey talks of her first paying job with Charlie Watts.
