It is so interesting to hear Charlie talking so passionately after a lifetime of giving out that he wasn't all that interested. Especially delighted to hear his comments about Brazil. Shouldn't be surprised to hear that from any drummer, but I don't think he's ever mentioned anything about Brazil or the Carnaval elsewhere. Spot on, of course.
The greats always seem to say the same thing, be a great Drummer, not a rock drummer but a great drummer. Charlie always played to the song, he could have played in a way that might have been more to the tastes of what he gravitated towards but it mught not have been a great style for the stones... What an overlooked genius player. Fantastic interview!!! Still hard to believe he's gone.

And played in a band called the Rolling Stones too? Definitely a jazz addict along with the best and worst of us all. Shame he didn't learn to drive He owned vintage cars built to feel. Could have been that exquisite eccentric that thru fate and circumstance, absurdity and irony. If that's not enough. Takes over the music eventually Despite starting out, under Brian, playing to the band. Unique, humble with a precision blast right hook, dapper, grumpy, bored, lost, a nightmare to live with, bred horses and possibly pushed the world's greatest Rock'n' roll band to be the world's greatest Country Band. Actually between being original and nailing numerous 'genres' Charlie propelled the Stones up, through and around and around. Original I still think his facial expressions on Some Girls videos esp Respectable are masterpieces of deadpan humour and communication and trying hard to be serious ❤

You're making a Stones album in the late 70's and you've passed out on the floor of the recording studio. The height of unprofessionalism. Charlie is ashamed. It gets worse. Keith picks him up and says ' this is not for you til you're older' He did Being Charlie. Still gets grumpy. Lucky you did some research mate. He was getting frustrated lol 26:16

My grandfather played with DaveyTough in Chicago. He led bands from the 20s into the 70s.
i could listen to Charlie all day, and i'm not even a drummer and barely a musician
