It's terrifying that Australia is following America lockstep in our "tough on crime" policies. Mainly because a war on drugs is such a profitable war for the prison industrial complex.
Wow what a awesome channel I found here,,I can't believe I found such a well put together channel with top notch interviews that are hard to get and even do ,,every documentary I've watched so far on here is perfect and it's what I've been looking for but never find it cause they have a few good documentary's but this guy's channel is absolutely without a doubt one if the best acres I've found to sit and watch everything I love to watch ,,it's all right here,,I love crime ,jail , Prison shows and real court trials and these interviews this man gets and does and these people talk up a storm to this guy and we get a idea of what is really going on and he sets out to interview and find out the truth and all that and just I'm amazed there's so much content here and could keep me very busy for a long time ,, thanks for your time and effort you put into this channel and the videos you have are all fantastic,
The guy talking at 13:40 says we want to wait for a violent crime before putting them in jail for life. Well he doesn't seem to realise a lot of what we're talking about are non-violent crimes. When a guy who stole a car jack gets more years in prison than a murderer, there's a problem. The punishment should always fit the crime.
I can empathize whit the mans pain of the loss of a child but believe it has clouded his understanding. People are capable of getting life for getting caught for smoking weed 3 times and being arrested. Not possession, possession with intent to sell, etc. Just smoking weed. Is it illegal? Yes and should be punished accordingly, not under a blanked law intended for violent criminals.
Fortunately now, in 2021, recreational marijuana has been legalized in California and several other states. People are starting to wake up to the fact that treating drug possession as a crime is wrong. Drugs should be legalized and treated as a health problem instead of a criminal offense.
Slogan-based crime policies always end badly. While there’s definitely a place for direct democracy, the major downside of citizens being able to write laws through the petition process is that people who have no idea what they’re doing get to make bad, emotion-based policies.
For years it has been known that it is cheaper to send the poor to college then to prison. I say both are places of learning, just the lessons are different. In schools you learn to be a productive part of society, in prisons you learn the latest cons and scheemes and get to network with like minded individuals. Exposeing the non-violent to the violence and cruelty of prison life and then dumping them back into society will not cure crime, but will increase it. Cause and effect.
The government and government beuracuracies make money off prisons, A case of those in power ensureing they can continue to control the people. "Experience demands that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term to the general prey of the rich on the poor." Thomas Jefferson
The funny thing about all this is that somehow we believe that putting other people (who are humans just like us) inside cells for life or executing them is somehow a good and moral thing to do. Laws may protect us but all laws strip away human freedoms.
We need to spend more on keeping them locked up. Alot more. The "spend less by decriminalization " philosophy is what has gotten us in the shape we are in. Lock them up. Zero tolerance.
Signatures are being collected starting in November 2021 to put a new proposition on the ballot in California in 2022 that will repeal the 3 strikes law completely. Hopefully it will pass. I think the majority of Californians realize that this law is just wrong and has led to tragedies of injustice.
Just wait until you are a victim, then you will change your mind,l have been a predator,l speak from experience,if l could get away with things as l have done in the past l would do it again and again,I'm sure some not all my friends in prison agree,l speak the truth, leave #3 strikes alone.
The harsh U.S. prison system is costing way too much to maintain. Soon the cost and corruption will be so great that change for the better will come.

Keep the tough on crime laws for 'violent' offenders, end drug prohibition period. How freakin hard is that.
People like Carl Adams are foolish to ignore the facts and fail to realize how cruel this punishment truly is.

Shame!!!! too many Americans behind bars.
That can basically be said about war on terror too, you can't win a war against a "thing." So it's all bs.
These three strikes laws for petty offences are beyond ridiculous. They must be repealed as they’ve already done too much damage.
my jaw is on the floor,i cant believe this
Wow, private owned prisons + the 3-strike law, what a combo.
Prison Operation is a business in America.
You got it right!!

The reason for the large prison population is the war on drugs, not the three strikes law

I do think prison sentences in America are excessive.
A determination between violent criminals and non violent criminals must be in place when considering sentences.
Amazing....dude got 13 yrs for stealing a Car Jack ?

focus on the root problem. Prison sentence is useless. It only agitates the prisoners and doesn't help them.

So why are places like Gitmo and Abu Ghraib still in existance?
always
Go people of California! Free youre fellow man of the evil oppressor.
They should just segregate the prison system. They would have a lot less trouble and murders.
Insighting a fight??? What is that??
Damn prisoners won't do the skill labor for free, then what did we institutionalized them for? lol.
Oh the irony... Leader of the free world with the most number of incarcerated individuals...
Big deal that ur first
