We’ve only had the cameras up and running for a short time. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe So far we love them! I got the outdoor mounting kit for them and they were easy to install. Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.

I agree with your position! My cameras, my property, my data! I do not trust big companies; they all have agendas and will not hesitate to act in their best interest.
I just made my first Eufy purchase and can't wait to get them delivered and installed.

Yesterday I replaced my Ring Floodlight cam with a Eufy Floodlight cam. That was the final step in transitioning from a "Ring / Blink" home to an all Eufy home (I had already replaced my doorbell and 2 other outdoor security cameras). I love the local storage for privacy and avoiding monthly fees. I also like that the Eufy floodlight cam lets me turn the lights on at a dim level from dusk to dawn and then jump to full brightness when motion is detected. The only 2 minor issues I've found are 1) I prefer the warmer color temp of the Ring floodlights and 2) I wish the Eufy Floodlight cam had the same HDR feature they have in their doorbell. I have contacted Eufy and they said they may add that in a future software update. Overall, I am very happy with all my Eufy products.

I've been using the Eufy Floodlight cam for about a month now and I absolutely love it.

I just purchased a Lorex 1080p Wi-Fi Dual Floodlight Camera, and two things that drew me to it, as opposed to other options, is that it built like a tank - all metal, and it comes with a 32 GB microSD card, expandable to 256 GB. It also offers all the additional features of the Eufy. Just FYI.

As a police officer for 32 years now, I can say that Ring cameras have helped us break a lot of burglary cases. In one case, we were able to follow the subject allnthebway down the block to his getaway car, and a Ring flood camera was able to catch the license plate. The tracking footage was obtained from 4 to 5 Ring camera owners. We obtained the footage from Ring without having to get the residents involved, and consequently, they didn't have to appear in court. With Eufy Cam, I would have to ask the owners for the footage, and they would have to appear in court .

My top priorities for home automation sound like yours too, e.g. Privacy and lack of subscription. I know that subscription services are a strong business model [razor and razor blade], but I hate them. I was lead to eufy because of those features and your channel because of your eufy reviews. I’m mostly Apple in my technology products mostly because of my wife and simple integration. I’m leaning toward HomeKit for the appearance of privacy. Thanks for your time and video’s.

Appreciate that, Lance. It does sound like we're similar in what we're looking for and what products we like to use (I'm Apple too). Of the big three options on the market (Google, Amazon, and Apple), Apple Homekit really has the strongest privacy first design. I'm using Hubitat as the central brain for a lot of my gear, but I have HomeBridge setup and sharing everything with Apple Homekit. Love being able to control and set up automations through the Home app.

We had a break-in which motivated me to research home security systems. I went with Ring mostly for the user interface. My biggest complaint is the lack of POE to overcome WiFi jamming with the only option of the Stick Up Elite with no light. I’m pairing one with the floodlight to hope that linking them will set the floodlight on before they get close enough to jam it. The cloud only bothers me if the camera is capturing part of my neighbors property and I like the person detection feature that can only get better over time.

I like the idea as well of local storage and control. However, with this device I have to say the lack of “network” storage is a turn off for me. Built in storage won’t protect me from someone ripping the unit off the mount unfortunately.
I understand that there is a balance between features, power saving, price, etc and I don’t know a lot about cameras (yet - but the wife wants me to put these next on the list), but there must be cameras that have a ‘hub’ to control the smarts plus storage. This way it can be placed inside the home to add more protection to thrift?
    Love ya vids 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks, Steve! And I get the hesitation of having the data stored directly in the device. I think it's probably an edge case that someone steals a floodlight off your home (mine's too high to get without a ladder). I'd LOVE for the eufy Floodlight and Doorbell to store or backup to the eufyCam hub. They have said they're working on integrations like that, so hopefully it's coming soon.

Hey Matt - thanks for the excellent review. One area you briefly touch on which has been a major reason I'm shopping for a new camera system, is Ring's hard cap on view length of 30-seconds. I've got Ring cameras around the house right now, and there is no way to extend them past a 30-second recording window from when they first detect motion. I've got a larger yard that generally takes more than 30 seconds to traverse, so by the time a delivery person (or trespasser) gets to the door, the Ring camera has stopped recording. Ideally I'd want a video recording system that would just continuously record so long as there's motion, and not arbitrarily cut off, or at least have this configurable. Have you found a difference on this when testing Eufy vs Arlo? It's not a part of the feature set that's discussed on virtually any review, but in my use case it's a frustrating dealbreaker for Ring.

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  5 років тому

That’s something that has become part of my buying decision rules: only buy based on what it does now and not what’s promised. Sorry, but I just don't see the privacy issue with the Ring cameras, but all of mine look out over public spaces, and that seems to be the norm for most people I know with cameras like this. If you had a fenced-off back yard where a family member sun-bathed I could see your concern, but my gut feel is that's the exception.
Also, if you flip it around, Google is violating the (non-existent) privacy of your driveway far more with Street View looking down it at your house than Ring could ever do.

    • @UndecidedMF

Thanks for the comment! Just to be clear on the privacy issue ... it's not about what's getting recorded, but how the company handles your data and who has access to it. Amazon has had some serious stumbles in that regard this year. I have another video with more details on what's gone down with them, but it crossed a line for me. But that said, I know a lot of folks, like yourself, that aren't bothered by it. And if that's the case, then stick with Ring for sure ... the hardware they make is great. Amazon is also making improvements to how they're handling privacy, so hopefully in time they'll win those of us back that left.
And that's awesome about the P3D next year! You're going to love that car ... it's like a rocket on wheels.

I used a tech support, that I wound up bewildering, cause he could not get the connection between my wi-fi, smartphone (Samsung), and the floodlight to connect. After an estimated 2 hours and the tech support getting an "expert" who faired no better... between him and I--I figure part of the configuration... and he, the other. We both learned something and Eufy learned their setup quick-start leaves a lot to be desired. Once up, their product is working well--but their set-up... frustrating!

Also, are you able to program the time in which the lights dim? For example, on at dusk (or specific hour/minute) at full lumens, then reduce to 50% at 10pm, then off at dawn (or specific hour/minute)...

Thank you for the Monty Python! I need to upgrade a couple of floodlights and this may fit the bill. Do you think they will build Apple home kit integration into these cameras in the future? My only cam right now is an old dropcam taken over by google nest and I do pay for cloud storage. Have not made the leap into storing the video locally yet. I need to learn how to do that frankly. I’ll go back to your smart home videos and check out your recommendations. Thanks so much for the reviews! They really do help! Even poor environmental engineers trying to stay moderately current in computer / electronics tech! Cheers!

Ha! I was hoping someone out there would get a kick out of that reference. I’m not sure if this will support Apple Homekit at some point. I know eufy has Apple Homekit products on the way, but so far they haven’t retroactively added that support to existing products. They may (I hope they do).

    Really nice overview.
With the 2020 version of Eufy, is there now a way to download the video recording as say an .mp4 file?
Or another hack - possible to 'screen record' the playback of the video recording on your phone just so it's captured in a shareable file format?

Privacy concerns are my main interest in Eufy. One easy question, that I did not see when I scanned the comments, if I replace my existing floodlights with a Eufy floodlight camera will the inside switches still work to manually turn the floodlight on/off?

You are starting me to rethink my ring and look into eufy. I have 2 ring doorbells 1 & 2 and did buy flood cam but haven't installed yet, to cold. Might return to costco and buy this but does it need extender. I'm only interested in cam outside not inside. Let us know about app updates, i hated my ring doorbell until it got second update. Does this have recording like doorbell, you say in home recording storage how?

There is nothing more vulnerable than wireless security devices. You don't even have to hack the WiFi to have the device de-authenticated from the network and you won't even notice that your device has been compromised. Please, for all of you out there, don't rely on wireless devices for security.

Excellent video, the lack of support for sending the video to a NAS is a bit of a bummer... I currently use a Reolink C1 Pro for video recording, which does support sends the data to a NAS but I find it a bit harder to set up for scenes...
Incidentally, what do you use to detect that the house is unoccupied or occupied to trigger scenes? And is it capable of working with both iOS and Android devices?

    • @UndecidedMF

As of right now, the cameras aren’t tied into my smart home setup, so I’m only able to use the built in scheduling functionality. Eufy has said they’re working on geofencing, which should be out this year ... but until they get something like IFTTT integrated, we’re stuck with whatever is built into their app.
My smart home in general though is built on top of Hubitat right now. I’m using that to track our smart phones as presence sensors to trigger home and away modes for scenes with everything that’s integrated.

Well, it looks like I get disappointed at 8:45. This doesn't connect with iPhone correct? I do have an amazon fire tablet. Would it work with that? It checked all the other boxes (though I would want a eufy that doesn't have the spots. So, does any eufy work with iPhone?

Cannot find answer anywhere. Does light is also controlled by motion, or it is always on and ON/OFF can be controlled only from the app? Another question. It is not battery operated, meaning that I have to flip the switch ON for the flood light for good. Minot thing, but if light is not controlled by motion sensing, it is useless.

do you which one would be more suited to going down the narrow side of a house, so you would need to turn the camara hard left (does it do that), also one light would be hard left, the other hard right... I wont want to direct the light forward and the movement would come from the left of the camera

    Nicely Done! Thanks Matt.
What happens if your light is on a regular light switch? does it lose settings if the switch is turned off? Also I had a question on your experience with the Eufy cams, have the sealed batteries but from what I have read they only last for 2 or 3 years before they stop charging. A battery can only take so many cycles of charging and a sealed battery and a cam at that cost, hmmmm I am hesitating pulling the trigger picking one up

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  5 років тому +1

I actually have my eufy Floodlight in that exact situation. If you accidentally (or purposely) flip that switch, the camera won’t lose its settings. When it turns back on it’ll connect back to the Wifi and operate like you left it. As for the battery situation on the EufyCam, I get the concern, but I’m personally not worried about it. A typical lithium ion can handle 500 to 1000 charging cycles over its useful lifespan. This one you’ll be charging once (maybe twice) per year. My old Arlo Pro had user replaceable batteries that I never touched in almost five years ... and they still are working just fine.

Weighing through all options from smart home cameras and like you I like what Eufy offer, but I feel in trying to keep costs down and the fact they don't really get revenue from cloud based storage they are missing out on some extra features that would set them apart I would be willing to pay extra to extra instead of the same or less to not quite get what I want.
