Anyone watching this now, though it does make for more room, you can leave the air control panel hanging and get a radio in. No need to pull all the way off.
Thanks for showing where to route the cables, can't really tell where your pulling them out of when you're taking it out. Used this info on my 2015 Impreza.
VERY NICE explanation!! Thank you!! A couple of questions, please? Which OEM HU did you take out? And what made you choose the one you installed, please? I have the OEM sat/HD/Nav unit and replaced the speakers with Polks, and the oem sound good, BUT I hate the nav unit, too difficult to use. I welcome any other suggestions for the HU, Thank you!
My climate control cables are locked in to a clip that doesn’t appear removable (seems there’s a metal clip holding the cable in that isn’t shown in this video). The housing around my climate control dials is not moving at all, guessing even with cable loops detached the housing won’t budge? Any ideas on how to release the clip holding the cables in?
Thanks for posting. I want to hide a GPS tracking device, half the size of a pack of cigarette. Looks I'll be able to just pop out the bezel without disconnecting anything. The tracker needs constant 12V to charge the built-in battery. Would it be easy to route a wire to the fuse box on the left ?.
Yes, really easy to bring power to behind the radio. If you look underneath from the driver and passenger footwells, you'll see big gaps to easily fish your wire through.
Thanks for posting. What was the harness you used for connecting the double din headunit to the factory wiring. Is it from metra? I am from australia and have a xv 2014 model with OEM sat nav. I want to install the aftermarket HU. But not able to find the right harness. Can you please guide me. Thanks.
so let me get this straight, i decide to document my process to share with everyone at no cost to you, you take this knowledge for your own use, give me feedback that doesn't impede your ability to acquire the knowledge, and yet still don't bother to subscribe? is that right?
Looks like your 2013 Crosstrek has manual climate controls. My 2013 Limited package has automatic climate controls. Anyone know if there's a significant difference in the harness's and control cables?
John Marra - My 2015 Forester has auto climate controls and when I changed my radio out there were no cables after I opened up the dash. It was all digital.
Riley Moses You have to use a new one since the connection to the factory radio is a proprietary connection. I routed mine to the location of the original factory mic.
David Guzman www.crutchfield.com/p_142SU2029B/Scosche-SU2029B-Dash-Kit.html But I shaved mine down using a Dremel in order to get the face of the radio closer to be more flush than how it appears in his video. Mine looked like his before I altered it.
hi, thanks for this vedio it is very useful, but i want to buy the double din frame for my 7 inch pioneer AVIC-Z150BH do you have the model or part No. thanks,
You will be glad to know, that on the 2014 Crosstrek, those white and black cables do not exist. After looking for half an hour, I gave up and pulled the dash trim off, only to discover that those cables were not there. Not sure if this applies to all 2014 Crosstreks. If your climate control knobs turn real easily (not mechanical) you probably do not have those cables.

Wasn’t working on my stereo but this helped me remove my SRS Control Module. Thanks for posting!
This is super helpful, thanks for taking the time to upload!

Thanks !!! Couldn’t have done it without your video !

Nice job. I need to change my HVAC control cluster and this was very helpful.

Randy, thank you so much for the excellent instructions.

Thank you! I was getting ready to take a hammer to my dash! Its easy when you know how.

Post a pic somewhere?
Is there access through the firewall from there?
Also for anyone doing this on a hybrid, the hybrid doesn't have the white and black linkages it is just a harness.

Yes, really easy to bring power to behind the radio. If you look underneath from the driver and passenger footwells, you'll see big gaps to easily fish your wire through.
Or you can splice into the stock radio harness. There is constant power going through the harness.
rankar7 Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Chandru Narayanan I used this one:

Thanks for the video. Would be great if at some point the video would be in focus.

Is it possible to wire an amplifier into the stock deck? I'd like to know before I go about ripping the radio out lol
Absolutely. It's easier to wire the amp directly to the radio, just fish through the bottom of the dash.

Are you able to keep using the built-in microphone or do you have to route a new one?
I routed a new one, it's easy to do and the mic that came with the new head unit works perfectly with it.
Thanks!

“Pretty much it” lol damn fuck doin this I’ll just pay someone else lmao
What is the bezel number that goes around the radio

I've got a 2014 and do have those cables, just FYI
