For the motor, check to make sure the brushes are not hung. Give it a gentle tug on the brush leads and pull them back and forth a few times only a couple mm or so. It may have hopped away and got hung so there is no power go to the armature. I thought this was going to be an easy thing to get these going fast but it seems everyone is struggling a bit to get them going more the 30mph! I got my car built today, I still need to do the body. I may sneak it out with an old junker body just to see what it will do tomorrow. I am getting too curious!
Great advice Addam. I will play about with the brushes and see if we can sort it out. It could be a late entry to the speed runs now! Getting it going and stopping seems to be the hard bits! Good luck with your run pal! Junker body is a good idea! Mine is trashed already 😂
Yep! You can see my frustrations as I have been going up through the motors. You don’t always get way you expected!! The top dudes are all running some seriously cool modified vintage motors. I hope you have some success with yours 🙌🏻
Oh, man, very interesting to follow along! Bummer with that motor, I hope you manage to salvage it! Lots of cool upgrades coming in, I am especially looking forward to seeing that cool new body, I love the Bittydesign stuff! One very crucial upgrade you have to do that you haven't mentioned: You need a better location! I also noticed you got full throttle for such a short time, you could actually risk the GPS doesn't register it properly, could be why you are stuck in pretty much same speed on all your motors... Try find a parking lot, I think you will like it a lot better! Lots of fun watching all these, I also need to rush and get my own TT-02 built and made ready, looking forward to joining the fun!
Hey Mads, the area we are running it way too tight and it was only used for these shake down runs to settle on Motor. I was able to see the speeds in detail on the screen and all the top few motors were very close around 24/25 mph. Now we are beyond motor selection stage I will be running in a parking lot somewhere for gearing. I feel 30+ mph is in our future but I also think we are going to break something soon too!! 😂 Good luck with yours pal 🙌🏻
I was going to suggest the same as Addam regarding the brush wobble about to see if they may be stuck. Very frustrating for you. So much temptation here to join in ..... 😂
Man you’re brave doing a speed run on a curve lol…that said I totally get why you chose that location….never seen anywhere so smooth in the UK😂 …I’ve found a few spots round my neck of the woods, but sadly too much pot holes/traffic. The search continues. Great run…onwards and upwards
Hey there! The tarmac is super fresh and super smooth so it is helping with my runs. I have one other spot to try which is also new tarmac so hopefully will help when the power keeps going up!! Finding a space to run in the UK is tricky as we don’t have nice open car parks without kerbs like the US!! 😂🤣
You will benefit from reducing the electrical resistance in your wiring. I would recommend directly wiring your esc to motor wires now you have decided on a motor to move forward with and get rid of the tamiya molex plug and shorten everything to give the best chance. Think you need a different venue also with a longer straight so GPS has more time to register plus the low turn motors have more time to fully spin up. There must be a retail park/B&q near you surely.. Good luck.
Hey Ric, I have a few places in mind. Looking for somewhere with nice new tarmac and very little debris on the road is important too. Thanks for the advice on motors and wiring. Quite a few have suggested ditching the Tamiya connectors and get things wired up differently. Plenty to play with! Thanks so much for watching 🙌🏻👍🏻
Hey Zach, you are 100% correct. The controller I used for the TT02 is a very basic stick transmitter which doesn’t have those functions. I am putting it onto a Flysky for the next session and I have control over dual rates and exp. Thanks so much for watching pal 🙌🏻
Cor your steaming along mate! Great to see your name so high on the Sunday Scoreboard today! You have certainly got your work cut out doing a speed run on a narrow bend..... Tescos leave their car park lights on for an hour after they shut each night, makes for a perfect running ground as the car parks become pretty empty, just a suggestion? As for the motor..... bummer! Sounds like a brush issue to me? 🤔 Hope you get it sorted dude. 👍 👍 👍 👍
Hey James, I am looking for the perfect run spot. Nice new tarmac and plenty of run off space so I don’t mash it into a kerb Green Hawks 959 style! Just saying 😂🤣
@@theoagrc Only just seen this reply you cheaky so and so! 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 You're never going to let me forget that one are you mate? Urrrm...... hang on a sec, I done it again on the next Tescos fig 8 didn't I? OK, I think I need to shut up and leave the chat on that note...... 😬
Don’t give up mate you’ll get there , definitely ditch all the Tamiya plugs though and maybe direct solder your esc wires to the motor as well, you will get there ! Take care
Great advice Andy. I have a few ideas to take the runs closer to max towards the end with some clever soldering and changing the batteries about a little. Every bit of power helps 😁
Oh no! We both seem to be struggling to see an improvement! 😢 I was so hoping you'd get more speed out of the LRP as that's all I've got left to try. I shall see what mine does though as my gearing is slightly higher than yours. Not holding my breath though 😅. I hope you can revive the Orion mate. Best of luck! 😎👍
Hey Mark, will be interested to see how it goes for you on that gearing? I wonder if my set up is causing the heat? I will be on the same gearing soon. Then we’ll have a proper baseline. Good luck with your runs pal 🤘🏻
@@theoagrc Cheers mate! Well, in theory, your lower gearing should generate less heat, but hey, that's only in theory! I did fit a heatsink though. As I think you did? Anyway it's all good fun. Good luck too, buddy!
Fun and interesting video series to watch. With that new spur gear adapter, you should be able to get some non-Tamiya spur gears that are even smaller than the Tamiya speed gear, should you wish to do so. Is the timing adjustable on the motors you have? If so, you might be able to get more speed by advancing the timing a bit (though don’t go too far). Waiting for your next installment!
Hey 👋🏻 thank you for watching. Some great advice on the spur gear. I don’t know too much about motor timing but I know a man who does! I will have a look at that as I am sure there were timing adjustments on the can. 🚀🔥
Hi there Craig, lots of upgrades to come, I would have liked to have entered, but I don’t have a speed meter. Also, judging by the competition and the amount of financial investment, I’m not sure I’ll get that past the Mrs 😂😂😂 sorry the motor failed. Did you put a AA battery across the terminals to check the motor turns, without being behind the ESC? best wishes. 😊😊
Hey John, that was the position I was in last year and I am glad I have one now. It is good fun to have one in the toolbox. I did the AA test and it still failed. Looks like I have a problem with the brushes which hopefully can be fixed easily.
@robbrennanrc Rob enters the Brushed Midlands Challenge!! 💪🏻 Bring it on fella 🙌🏻👍🏻 Can’t wait to see how your brushless runs go but also how that adjustable timing works out 👍🏻
Not sure they go down that low here Thad. I have been impressed by the Etronix cheap motor. Let’s see how it gets on. There might be more motors in September!
It was working when it arrived. When I got it all into the chassis it fired up and then immediately stopped. Won’t even fire up on a AA battery now. Going to try fixing it. I think it could be a secret weapon in all this!
Hey pal, tested it on everything and couldn’t get a response. I am sure it is something simple. You are setting some hot times over there!! Mark and I might have to team up rather than compete 🤪

This challenge is becoming super frustrating. I was expecting my 11T motor to kick buttocks but it’s currently slower than my 23T!

Bummer about the motor I had one of those days on my associated t3 4 motors to get a good one
Hopefully with a little bit of tinkering we can get it running 👍🏻
Great video, now time for upgrades. 🎉

Just watch the kerbs pal. It is a handful to keep straight under acceleration and braking
