Hi Kane, Most pilot car driver start as independent drivers. That's what I did and you can do this by being registered as a sole proprietor (I registered as an LLC). There are pilot car companies out there that do hire pilot car drivers. Do a Google search and find pilot car companies in your area or look in your local phone book. There is also website called uspilotcars.com that has a pilot car directory for the entire US and I believe Canada. Look what you can find there and contact them. Most will tell you they only hired experienced drivers but some are willing to train new drivers. If you start as a sole proprietor you don't have this problem. Let me know if you have more questions.

You need to get certified, washington,Utah,Oklahoma, requires certification.I reccomend Evergreen safety council online course.Cost 295.00 8 hours online class, and 100 question test. Tina Bacon is one of the ones who give test online with ZOOM.This is the very first place you must start to even consider pilot work. Then Kansas requires you register with K-Trips,its free and just fill the info in with your Cert, number. Then, your insurance will run you about 3,156.00 a year. for this you call Roger,a broker for National Imdemnity Ins. They finance you for a million dollar liability commercial Ins. with aprox.600.00 down, and 261.00 a month. Then of course your pilot car,cb,equpiment, class 3 yellow clothes, This formula is if you are planning to do this as a business as an owner operator, you`ll need to get your company LLc ,(limited liabilty contractor. But if you are able to go to work for a company, you wont have to cover your ins, car, and equpiment etc. There is good money to be made in the work.Steerman requires cdl licence. Roger the insurances number is 573 625 1895 Hope this helps!
