The whole thing with Tom in the REAL story is that he was outside the whole thing and wasn’t concerned with any of the goings on. Now, apparently, he does care and is like Yoda to the Jedi wizards or something….so if he cares now so much why isn’t he using his immense powers to help as well? I mean, Yoda kicked some ass and got his hands dirty. Tom acts only as some sort of guru but does nothing himself? It makes no sense.

The biggest issue with them stealing dialogue is that not only does it show how creatively bankrupt they are at writing meaningful dialogue themselves but that it cheapens the emotional highs that the original lines gave us (both in the book and the excellent delivery given us by Sir Ian McKellen (and Peter Jackson) in the Movie.
Edit : Seeing as how they made the elven rings first and with Sauron's help (probably the stupidest and worst decision they have made) they cannot sink any lower - much like the stones that don't look up the writers also have heads low (brown-nosing each other i assume)

I suspect that the lame saying of "the sea is always right" is the showrunners' attempt to emulate GoT with the repetitive "what is dead can never die" phrase uttered by those sea-faring people. It comes across as a very contrived effort at unnecessary world-building; like they're trying to establish something about the mindset and culture of these people, except we don't actually care...

The Empire Strikes Back: Not Gandalf wrestling between saving his friends or fulfilling his destiny.
Return of the Jedi: The Halfling underdogs will band together with their primitive weapons to fight the menacing threat of the masked riders.
Batman Begins: The Dwarf woman summons bats to stop the miners.

not quite derivative scenes but, Did anyone noticed an attempt on the music score to mimic the iconic Howard Shore theme for the shire? Like, there's a moment in the conversation between female frodo and black leader woman (Dont remember her name) of the not hobbits where the music score seems somewhat similar to the iconic shire melody. Exactly between 22:07 and 22:11. I swear, my heart bursted in hatred. Not only we have to stand the repurposed dialogues, but also the coward attempt to use those violin strings to try to be like the PJ trilogy. Soulless show. Utter Garbage. I need to calm myself. Morgoth's crown was used as a sort of neck-leash or whatever it's called to take him to Valinor after the War of the Wrath, and was with him when he was sent outside the circles of the World. So, his crown is not really present anymore in the books after the First Age.

You got the point. I would've had no problem with the extreme time compression (to have less characters, for example combining different Numenorian Kings and their deeds into one) if they'd keep the correct order of events and above all the fundamental themes already outlined by Tolkien.
This show is a mess and a superificial one too.

@James Hancock, l appreciate that you continue to provide decent reviews of this terrible show, even if it’s not a lot of fun for you!
I am a great Tolkien fan, and I actually watched all episodes of the first season. I didn't like the show, but there was at least one storyline which l found really interesting: l liked Adar and the quest of his Uruks for an orc-compatible habitat, where they could be as evil and orcish as they always wanted to be 😉 But even that narrative fizzled out badly in the second season, and it didn't help that the actor who had been Adar in the first season - Joseph Mawle - has left the show. Sam Hazeldine who has replaced Joseph Mawle, isn't bad at all, but he doesn't have the same charisma. It's possible though, that the writings is simply worse than in the first season. Whatever, l was too bored by what l have seen of the second season, and therefore l am content to watch some well-made reviews like yours which don't push the political convictions of the reviewer constantly into the limelight and which don't lament all the time about the show's "wokeness", which is a word l really hate by now! It's of course blatantly obvious that the producers and the show-runners have tried to increase the racial diversity of the cast. They also tried to "empower" female characters. Both goals aren't bad per se, but unfortunately everything was done in such a clumsy way and without fully understanding Tolkien's writings, that it totally backfired. And if you want to preach to your audience, you must entertain your viewers - or you will lose them 😉 However, l really don't want to hear anymore harping about the alleged crime of having girl bosses, a black elf and a black female dwarf without a proper beard in the show! You know what? That's not the real problem of ROP! The show isn't bad because of characters like Arondir and Disa, or because they choose to turn Galadriel into the most important character and the heroine of the show. At least in the first season Arondir and Disa were actually ok characters, and even if the complete Harfoot cast would've been white-skinned and blue-eyed, these little psychopaths would still be totally out-of-place and annoying! The shows biggest problem is that the scriptwriters and the directors are totally incompetent and they don't have the foggiest ideas about Tolkien's characters and his writings - which is the material they are supposed to adapt! But the worst thing is that no one who is involved in the production of the show, is able to come up with interesting and well constructed storylines and decent dialogues! Even if we try to forget that ROP is supposed to be an adaptation of Tolkien's works, the show is still pretty bad and very boring to watch. It cannot stand on it's own legs! The show-runners may have tried to emulate "Game Of Thrones", but they failed miserably. When Amazon decided to make a multi-seasoned tv-adaptation of Tolkien's works, the people who were in charge, must've thought that in the long run this was a licence to print money, even if they would make the most expensive tv-show ever. They figured that the name Tolkien made sure that they could reach his huge worldwide fandom. And they weren't completely wrong: if this abysmal tv-show wouldn't have abused Tolkien's material and his name, nobody would watch the show anymore, and it probably would have been cancelled after the first season. I think it's possible that the numerous "hate-watchers" actually keep the badly leaking ship afloat 😊 But the audience will probably continue to dwindle. However, l think that Amazon Studios will be chained to this ill-conceived project. All five seasons will be made because unlike other streaming services, which cannot afford the loss of a great number of viewers, it's not a problem for a huge company like Amazon to spend tons of money on such a vanity project. Amazon Prime isn't and never was about the viewers of it's content - it's about those who go shopping after they have subscribed, and because it's so comfortable to have free and speedy deliveries most new subscribers will not cancel their subscriptions just because they don't like one bad tv-show! But I think that Jeff Bezos didn't just want to earn more money. He wanted to create a prestige product - a beautiful and shining silmaril of a tv-show which would be connected with the name of his company forever! He may well have succeded at least in one aspect - but not in a good way. The show will probably be known mostly for being the most expensive flop in the history of tv-shows.

Hubris and ego led them to believe they could present this amount of timeline and make it work. No Director/Writer worth their salt would try to tackle this amount of material, especially with Tolkien. The long passage of time is such a central element to the elves and the Second Age. We get what we expected, a convoluted, condensed mess that can't do justice to any theme, element or character.
