    About Pema Chödrön
Ani Pema Chödrön was born Deirdre Blomfield-Brown in 1936, in New York City. She attended Miss Porter's School in Connecticut and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. She taught as an elementary school teacher for many years in both New Mexico and California. Ani Pema has studied with Lama Chime Rinpoche and Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. At the request of the Sixteenth Karmapa, she received the full bikshuni ordination in the Chinese lineage of Buddhism in 1981 in Hong Kong. Ani Pema served as the director of Karma Dzong in Boulder, Colorado and as the director of Gampo Abbey in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She is interested in helping establish Tibetan Buddhist monasticism in the West, as well as continuing her work with western Buddhists of all traditions, sharing ideas and teachings. Her non-profit, The Pema Chödrön Foundation, was set up to assist in this purpose. She continues to teach in the United States and Canada.
She has written several books: The Wisdom of No Escape, Start Where You Are, When Things Fall Apart, The Places that Scare You, No Time To Lose, Practicing Peace in Times of War, How to Meditate, and Living Beautifully. All are available from Shambhala Publications and Sounds True.
    About From Fear to Fearlessness
Where will we look when we are afraid? How do we find strength? In what can we place our trust? According to Tibetan Buddhism, there are four noble aspirations, known as the Four Great Catalysts of Awakening, which we can call on to cultivate strength and openness in any situation. From Fear to Fearlessness brings us into the company of beloved teacher Pema Chödrön to discover and cultivate these four immeasurables: maitri (loving-kindness), compassion, joy, and equanimity. They are our greatest antidote to fear, teaches Ani Pema. By practicing them, we begin to experience a supreme steadfastness and peace independent of conditions.

FEAR, when it is not based on a life or death situation, is basically "Forgetting Everything’s All Right (FEAR)"

  • @dailydoga

This is true with other creatures too, like our beloved dogs. Dogs are usually labeled as aggressive if they strike out. Like us, they strike because of past experiences or fear. They are protecting themselves. We do to this too, in a different way. What I have discovered over years of team work with dogs and their people is that we share similarities. We self medicate with whatever our soother is (food, drugs, alcohol). Dogs do too. Ever worse, they follow our habit, so will self-destruct in similar ways. Training our dogs, reaching into fear, smiling at it, changing what we can and managing the rest ... with that smile, works!

Happy Sunday. This is one of my favorite things to listen to as I work on healing.
Despite yet another year of blinding pain, pure pain both physically as well as emotionally I'm working through it.
Every year around this time I reflect on the year as well as what I've endured and the fact that I'm still here. Not locked up nor taking a dirt nap. Even though with both kinds of pain and fear that I've had to endure I'm still here despite.
Not my turn yet. nor quite time for me to coast. Non the less I have choice and I work towards my peace quiet and tranquility.
Life is work as well as a test. I value my choices as it's my turn with my life.
Peace and be well to all.

@@triplej-jade4808 Hi Julian, I am doing my best 7 years later I have more emotional pain than physical these days. Listening to Pema still makes a very big difference and helps a lot. I had a life-changing diagnosis this past spring after having my first surgery in life that helped with some of the pain issues. After the diagnosis, a friend of mine suggested that I listen to Pema's Ripe time. I also listened to her Groundlessnes as that is the only way that I could describe how I felt at that time. Getting Unstuck still helps also really helps a lot along with other meditations. clearly, meditation helps me a lot along with listening to myself and respecting my body. Not letting the pain rule me, but respecting it as pain is a symptom that there is something wrong and it needs to be taken care of. Hope that you are well.

There is no question that there is a danger of becoming trapped in some form of introspection but then the middle path has been lost. In the same way service of others can degenerate into service of the projections of our own ego: there is no use in that. Without basic wakefulness - awareness of the fundamental reality that neither self nor others ultimately have any persistent meaning - all human action - no matter how apparently noble - is mere posturing

I Love the teachings that this woman shares. but in the end I believe that no matter what people think or what people do that without Divine Grace they are not able to live in the Highest Peace. The human heart sadly has a darkness that I personally believe can only be dispelled with the injection of Divine Light and Energy and Healing

I read a lot of Pema Chodron's books and have listened to a fair amount of stuff on youtube. She's OK as a teacher, but really much of her work is truly Repetition, repetition, repetition.

I disagree. Her life's work covers so many ideas. Her message is simple in each book and she does a lot of talks, so of course, there is some repetition if the talk is related to the same topic every time. Even if this were true, she's not offering a shopping mall of ideas for us to pick from. The message is very basic - we are suffering and we can learn to face. There is some good in having many new interpretations of that concept.

Right- but what I'd like to know is if there is any such thing as an, "unloving kindness?" Is that what Westerner's refer to as, "niceness," which may be full of good promise and impressively well mannered but empty hearted and lacking depth? Can an, "unloving kindness," be conceptualized as anything at all, or is it a nonsensical term only implied by the conceptualization of a, "loving kindness?" Please help.

請搜尋:《西藏文化談》(A Taik on the Tibetan Culture) 或《真心新聞網》(True Heart News)。阿彌陀佛!
