A round of Autumn golf at Nefyn & District Golf Club in North Wales. This course is known as the 'Welsh Pebble Beach.' It's a 27 hole links layout (3 loops of 9) that was founded in 1907.
This video is the back 9 on the Old course which is very popular and a unique layout. This is a bucket list course for many people and a top 10 course in the world rated by the late Peter Allis (Nefyn comes in at number 5 on his list: www.linksmagazine.com/my_top_....
The green fees were £40 from 3pm onwards in September 2022 (twilight rate).
I'm James, a golfer with a dodgy swing now playing off a 12.1 handicap. I had taken 4 golf lessons to improve my swing on the day of play.
I'm looking to continuously break 85 on the courses I play. Even if I don't shoot a good score I always enjoy strolling around the fairways of North Wales, UK :-)

This course was in my bucket list since 2003 and we have played it in September 2022. The views are stunning. You were lucky with the weather. We played with strong wind. Great video again and will played. Wales is a great destination for a week to play great courses.
Yeah, in the wind you need a 200 yard stinger shot (which I don't have) or it's going to be really a tough day! haha

Two things I picked up from watching your videos was to have better course management while playing and you inspired me to use my 22 degree hybrid which I had been ignoring. It’s now my favorite club! Hoping next year to improve a little more! Keep up the great work!

Wonderful place isn't it James 🙂 I played there about 7 years ago and would love to go back! My score was terrible but there were two unforgettable moments - hitting the fairway after hitting over the cliffs on 13 and then putting my tee shot on the green on 14 😊 Alas, the Ty Coch inn was closed that day but it really was an amazing day!
The 13th and 14th really are the standout holes on this 9. Wish I could play them every week! :-)
lovely region. almost went there on holiday, but the Mad Cow broke out that year and all hiking was ban. wanted to see Pembrokeshire 😄

It's heck of a course, mixture of some tough and some easier holes. I'd recommend anyone to give it a go! Enjoyed the video!

Love the slow mo of the bunker sand coming straight back in your face, I'm afraid I laughed out loud !! you certainly had some good weather on the day, it's a beautiful setting with some very challenging holes and you did well playing on your own not to lose more balls ! cheers.

Love the course. I told my wife since will both be retired at the beginning of 2023, we should take a 3-4 week vacation and I'll play golf while she goes to see the sights.

Have you thought of playing bunker shots by way of the pop-up method? Use your regular wedge. The hole is to your left at 9 oclock, aim your feet at 7 oclock , open the face to aim at 10 oclock and skim the surface. A tip given to me by a well-known pro. Useful with deep bunkers or when close to the face of the bunker.
On my list to play here, I've walked around it a few times, beautiful. Good round by the way.

Brilliant James. Though having watched every one of your videos, and seen you struggle with bunkers, I'm now thinking that equipment may be an influence, lol. If you've upgraded to that old Donnay, well, what on earth were you using before :]
Honestly, get yourself a really nice 60 degree wedge, a proper blade so you can open the face, brand isn't important, but a pre-owned mizuno or anything like that will really help with bunkers. I paid about £35 for a Mizuno MP-R 60, used but fine, and it does a LOT of the work for me when it comes to escaping the sand thanks to it's loft and ability to cut into the sand rather than skip over the top. Anyway, you're already doing much better from bunkers, and so well across the board, you've come such a long way and it's brilliant to see. What a course!

For my 50th birthday I had booked one of the cottages down by the Ty Coch Inn pub mentioned in the video, and played 18 holes using the pros clubs but unfortunately it was when the peninsula was closed due to the sea damage. Need to go back just for that 13th/14th tee shots. I have my card for the day framed on the wall as 50th reminder.
It's still a great place for a game on the newer 18 holes. I was waiting for the point to reopen fully which they kept delaying. Those greens must have been really damaged! Thanks for watching :-)

I've walked around the perimeter of the course but would love to hit it around there someday definitely. We'll played again James, I thought you controlled it through the course very intelligently as per usual , great vlog cheers matey
Cheers John, I played Nefyn 2 years ago as a 27 hcp player and simply played from the red tees. I lost a ton of balls but still had a great time! :-)

What a beautiful place for playing golf. Like you said, the score isn't so important compared to the raw nature surrounding you. Well done James, I would be happy with your score.
Tricky holes but absolutely beautiful
Yah. Good call on that 60° wedge. You let the flange do the work for you in a bunker. Don’t be afraid to let your club head get ahead of your hands on the downswing a little bit. Swing hard and hit about 4” behind the ball. The flange will let the club head slide through the sand and the sand itself will propel the ball. No spin, though so calculate for that.
Yeah, the huge cavity back on the 54° was bouncing on a few sand shots. This one seems much better!
I played start of October, so windy at the start having to use 7 iron for 140 yard shots when that's normally a PW. Wind died down after like the 3rd hole and the sun came out. We had the course to ourselves because the weather was supposed to be bad. What a day, I've been thinking about it most nights since. Can't wait to go back next year, I'll be looking to and hollyhead as well, as a friend said he thinks its better than Nefyn. Great vid
Cheers Scott, I think it's a £25 day rate through the winter which is amazing value for 27 holes. But like you say the weather can be an issue.

I honestly don’t know how you can concentrate on golf with that beautiful landscape laid out before you. It looks like it belongs in a fairy tale book. Honestly breathtaking. If I knew you enough to joke with you, I’d say it was wasted on a Welshman 😂 This course was amazing. Had a kill box and everything. Cool beans. I think hole 11 rattled you for a minute and it looked like you got a little tired around 18. Great round, great course!

I recently played a course on my channel with holes that cross each other. This one is more spectacular though.
Hate to see you eat that dirt sandwich in the bunker, Iv'e had the pleasure of a dirt cap in a bunker myself....Lol....Beauty of a course, nice backdrops and views. enjoyed watching you ignore the card and just play. I find that when i do that i loosen up and play better... Keep it up mate!

Cheers bkelley, it usually takes around 4 hrs to play a full round when filming. Setting the camera up for each shot slows the game down. I'm naturally a slow player too so that doesn't help! haha :-)

@@notaperfectgolfer3489 you’ve got some better shots now. And the bunker shot with the 60 degree defo works. If the greens were better ( settled after the storms and being rebuilt) you might have a better roll. ⛳️⛳️👍🏻
6 months ago you would have never used a 6 iron for 150-160 yards, you would have pulled out your Hybrid. Your game has improved so much since the start of the year, it's impressive.

Tough looking course
Would love to see you to team up with a youtube pro like Golf Mates did with Danny Maude. I don't know of any local to you though.
Still never seen a shot tracer where the balls descent looks so slow. Something off with it.
I know it’s lovely scenery and a great course by the looks of it but would love to know if you’d shoot your 12 over on a normal course ( eg. Stroke index 130+ ) not 113 like this one 🤷♂️

Stunning 9 holes…some fantastic views
How does a storm damage greens if there are no trees around? Answer - sea water. Seems to happen a lot there according to a google search. 60 degree lob wedge out of bunkers all day long.
@@sidecar7714 Nothing about ice damage if you google storm damage Nefyn, lots of reports about saltwater scorching greens though, during many different years. I've seen ice and snow on the greens at my local course but have never seen damage anywhere near the likes in that video. Have you?
@@sidecar7714 Yeah but the context mentioned in the vid was about storm damage, not thaw and refreeze damage.
@@sidecar7714 Google said salt water. In fact being next to sea that would a lot more sense. Usually less snow along coastlines compared to inland.
