Yes. It sounds like a vocoder and it actually is quite disturbing, all along the whole set. It affects both Garfunkel and Simon's voices and, even if I don't see the point of auto-tuning their voices, I don't really see why else it could be. It's a pity.
when u hear the whole crowd sing back to you in there loudest voice , nothing could feel any better cause you know that you've touched them ! 1:26 . i love them and wished never split so there would be more songs by them to listen .. besides im 18 and from india , just to show people how far and wide there music has gone ! RESPECT to Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel !
Well, they are in Winnipeg on May 5, and tomorrow morning I line up (on-line) to get tix. Last saw them in the 'Peg in 1966!! Saw Paul about 12 years ago here, but this show should be just bloody awesome... to put in mildly!
@Wyokingpen Actually I am indeed a music production student, I've even used auto-tune in various projects. But that's not what my knowledge is based on here: It's logic. You can friggen HEAR IT mate, there are unnatural key changes and faulty fluidity. You don't get that from natural voices. I'm not saying it's not a decent performance, I'm saying that all these butthurt fans denying it are idiots. THERE. IS. AUTO TUNE. It is unmistakable.
Yes, I just learned that also. I'd read elsewhere that it was not auto-tuned, nor were their voices fiddled with live, but upon releasing the version that we're watching now - well, it's called "remastered" for a reason, their voices were enhanced a bit. I'm relieved it wasn't otherwise.
im not one of those douches tht are like im 5 and listen to simon and garfunkel, but seriously, nobody can appreciate good music these days....this song is so beautiful
It isn't the sound of their voices or the tuning that's in question. It's whether or not they needed help to make it happen. Unless Art Garfunkel has learned how to glitch his vocal chords exactly like autotune, then this is autotune.
Yep, the dude at 2:05, standing behind the guitarist, is definitely playing a theramin, you can see him and the theramin. And again at 2:22 view from behind. Is the pedal steel sound coming from that electric guitar? Guitarist must have some effects going on as it's not a pedal steel guitar. Nice combination of steel-guitar + theramin sound. Reminds me of Brian Wilson combining instruments on Pet Sounds.
I have used the autotune product on a few projects, and the give away here is how you can hear it glitching on Garfunkel's voice. It isn't really "my" insinuation, but a broadly based opinion being expressed here. But of course there is no evidence other than the sound.
Again, if you know what reverb is, you should know that reverb doesn't change the sound of any vocals/guitars etc. If you turn on reverb on your guitar amp, you will have the same sound as you had before, but there's a kind of echo. Hard to explain how it sounds. But I believe there's either pitch correction or slightly autotune.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Simon & Garfunkel. But I've heard them sing, both in their youth and their older ages live, and I've heard modern music's auto-tune. This sounds... this honestly does sound auto-tuned. It's the only concert in their older ages that I hear it possibly being used, though I'm serious when I say that I do love them - I'm not some immature hating douchebag. This sounds like it's auto-tuned just a tad bit...
Art Garfunkel said in an interview that he need a bit of autotune to sound as clean as he did before. Google it and see what you find. I love Art Garfunkel, but it's true, he use autotune. You can hear it. Perhaps you have the untrained ear since you can't hear it.
@keymaestro73 He isn't autotuned. The modulation in his voice is not concurrent with that of autotune/melodyne etc. He is using a vocal effect, but it isn't autotune, most of it is actually a product of his throaty aged singing voice (much of which is likely to have been caused by his smoking)
I think Art's voice does sound a bit artificial. I've heard he completely wrecked it from smoking both cigarettes and weed, whereas Paul Simon quit both years ago and has retained his voice.
I'm interested in this and have tried to identify the auto tune in their performance. I'm not trained or knowledgeable about this in any way but would really like to know how you can tell and on what bits you can tell. I just want to get a truer idea of their singing capacity at this time. Thanks
@TheEtceteraEtcetera How do you know that they were auto-tuned? Do you specialize musically in electronic voice enhancement or digital manipulations of tones? Or are you simply someone who can't bare to think that Art and Paul at their age and musical knowledge would need too or for that matter, want to bring their fans a fake sound? If you specialize in music like that you over other people would know, but going to a page where fans are hearing what they love and bashing them isn't cool.
@trumsolon such a shame none can defy time. If you could give that power to anyone you would give it to these two. I doubt it was there choice either. Fire the producers
@MatthewTS22 Listen to: 1'12-1'13 "Were the ragged people go": metallic, non human. It used to be: Art didn't write anything and has a rotten personality, but has a heavenly voice. Now its: Art didn't write, personality, is a fake but haD a heavenly voice. Bye Art.
Yes there is autotune. Age and smoking especially lowers your vocal range, luckily Art has quit now. Much like you can't expect a professional athlete to repeat the same performance in his late 60's as in his 20's, you can't expect a singer to be able to hit the same notes. The voice is a muscle and some take care of it better than others. But no one can defy time itself.
It doesn't sound "exactly like autotune". What you are hearing are the two voices together causing some harmonies to be accented, thanks to the similarities of their voices (I hear what you hear, but it isn't autotune). Compare to the previous video with Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water. I also own an EHX V256 vocoder which works as an autotuner, so I'm not pulling arbitrary claims out of my ass. Considering all of the above I find your insinuation extremely unlikely.
No, there is no auto-tune. What you hear as metallic is probably one of the instruments that is around the same frequencies as Art that interferes. Just get over it.
Unfuckingbelievable that they still have it like that so many years on
appreciated! :)
Indeed! It's so obvious. But Simon & Garfunkel is still the best.
Yes. It sounds like a vocoder and it actually is quite disturbing, all along the whole set. It affects both Garfunkel and Simon's voices and, even if I don't see the point of auto-tuning their voices, I don't really see why else it could be. It's a pity.

Great argument, filled with all the evidence to refute the opposite viewpoint. Well done!
old IS gold !!!
WOW.... That Took Me Away ... Thank You, Thank You!
A live recording is a live recording. A studio recording is a studio recording.

top Qualität digger ^^ so wie immer nur das beste von dir °!!!°
Amazing!
Brilliant
I see their youth in lala lai
not seem to have aged!
The spirit of the music remains young!!!
THEY STILL GOT IT!

Wonderful*****
still the same...beyond excellent...how many years later?....
Was looking for Gman and Sar-Funk-all... but this is good ;)
Super!!!
The best
It is not autotuned as those new 'rap' songs or wherever they use that. But just a slight altering to make it sound better.
Man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest! ;)
Incroyable 😂
It isn't the sound of their voices or the tuning that's in question. It's whether or not they needed help to make it happen. Unless Art Garfunkel has learned how to glitch his vocal chords exactly like autotune, then this is autotune.
The one dislike must surly be Simon Cowl - the man at the centre of today’s manufactured pop industry,
Envy can breed a nasty hatred you know.
That word is pretty high on your list of insults. I see you use it a lot. Thanks for sharing.

MEGA SIMON & GARFUNKEL...
they can't hear my applauses! plap, plap, plap, plap!

You Brought Me where I want to be tonight. Thank You!
Thank You!!!👍
Pure Magic!💜💖💜
They must will go to Festival of Viña 2014 (Chile) Regards!
What's with the theramin!?! Great version.
@thatgreekguy It's not autotune at all. He can hit that note.
@george535642 Well said.
I think Art's voice does sound a bit artificial. I've heard he completely wrecked it from smoking both cigarettes and weed, whereas Paul Simon quit both years ago and has retained his voice.

1:57 Yeah. That sounds completely natural. Come on guys ...
Why don't they have a light on the awesome Theremin player back there! That was the best part of the solo!!
@Wyokingpen I have to back him up here man... I like these guys a lot, but I clearly hear the auto-tune as well. Like he said... it's unmistakable
@keymaestro73 How can uou hear that?
@TheEtceteraEtcetera How do you know that they were auto-tuned? Do you specialize musically in electronic voice enhancement or digital manipulations of tones? Is there some sort of pitch correction software Garfunkel is using?
I think you are wrong. That sounds exactly like autotune. You can hear it glitching!
@krisq14 Wrong mate, so very very wrong.
He most definitely IS auto-tuned, it is unmistakeable.
stop fucking about autotune :)
Enjoy the story they are telling! :)
@trumsolon such a shame none can defy time. If you could give that power to anyone you would give it to these two. I doubt it was there choice either. Fire the producers

0:30, the drummer is popping pills.
exactly what I say to all of the auto-tune groupies
Steel Guitar. Not theramin.
it is not

autotune my arse.....it's pure and simple talent!!!
Who's talking about auto-tune here? omfg haha
@keymaestro73 How can uou hear that?
