Absolutely beautiful. The diction is impeccable and I love the way in which the lone soprano at the end blended perfectly into the sonority. Outstanding....truly outstanding!
I sang this song in JH, and five or six years later I still know all of the words and can still sing the soprano part to this. I love singing and listening to this song. It's such a beautiful piece.
My choir of 19 years at St John's University in NYC makes this our concert closer at our final Spring concert every year. It is impossibly beautiful -- redolent of the feelings of sadness at the parting of great friends to graduation, and gratitude for all we share being together in chorus.
Definitely one of the best recordings I could find. Beautiful. We are singing this song for graduation this year and could not ask for a better choice.
Nice from a technical point of view. It would be interesting to gather them together in forty years, when they've experienced more loss, and see how they do.
Incredible recording and such an amazing UA-cam channel. This makes for a really great reference for finding new music and listening to quality recordings.
Note to some director: Try a much, much longer pause at 4:06, then resume at a slower pace, hold out 'heart' with a crisp 't' followed by a pause, then 'be staaaaaaaaaaid.' Picture Leonard Bernstein conducting it, and you'll hear it. My God, what a beautiful piece of music.

Holly Ann Masson Fantastic. Isn't this an incredible piece? My son's high school choir performs this every Spring at the end of their concert, inviting alumni to come onto the stage to join in. Never a dry eye in the house. It is also sung yearly at graduation, another poignant moment for students and parents alike. Whenever I hear this piece, I am moved beyond words. And now that one of our three sons has graduated from high school, I am filled with emotion with every hearing of this beautiful, soulful song. It will be this way with you, too, I am sure. Scott
Scott Hamilton When I was in the Georgia Boy Choir, we sang it at a much slower tempo and heavily emphasized dynamic changes and pauses. Your suggestion is exactly right. It's best to pull out the vowels and truly enunciate the ending consonants.
it took a long time for me to figure out it was a picture
That made me laugh probably more than it should have.
it looks like they are just really good at standing still, doesn't it?
me too
It took me seeing this comment to realize it was a picture :/
that low D at the end is amazing whoever hit that! amazing job to this choir
Hey thanks.

My High-School Choir sang this song at our graduation, Unbelievably beautiful piece that reduced many people to tears. I love Stroope.
Stirring. Truly stirring. Thank you, and bless those young voices.

My choir performed this piece and followed similar to what you suggested. You are absolutely correct, it sounds genuinely amazing.
