The poet, Sara Teasdale...she did not love the person that she was made to marry. she wrote this either the day before or the day of her wedding. she actually loved someone else but since she was "stuck" in her situation she wished that she could be lost in love with her husband like she was with her real love...so sad :(
Absolutely the most beautiful rejection you will ever hear in your life. So heart-felt and thoughtful. It almost brought me to tears went I sang this song at a high school festival.
It makes me happy to know that so many young people have the opportunity to sing choral works like this. Many school districts have lost their music programs. Help!!
I started singing in jr high school choirs and am now 74 and still singing, presently in two choirs. Search out the community choruses and church choirs, music and musicians of any sort. Find the music wherever you are, because no matter what happens to you in the journey of your life the music will carry you through. And if there isn't a singing group for you to join, start one. You'll be surprised at what a good conductor you are. Music groups are like magnets, they draw people to them.
I had the privilege of singing this song in the Westmont College Choir two years ago on our tour around the pacific northwest. The reaction from the audience was priceless. One of the many songs from our repertoire that I will remember and cherish forever.
This song will forever be my favorite piece I performed in high school. It was so empowering to sing at the time and now continues to bring me to tears every time that I hear it
This weekend I had the opportunity of singing this song in my all city choir with Dr. Stroope directing. One of the most amazing choral experiences by far! Such a great choir and a fantastic guy and director. I love choir. ♥
This will always be one of the most breathtaking songs I've ever had the opportunity to sing. It's not easy, the harmony is thorough and gorgeous, but the words steal your heart. When I become nostalgic, I listen to this song and remember one of my proudest moments in life: the entire chorus nailing a song, and the emotions it brought. That's why I love music so much. It's so powerful. Can I go back to choir???
I had a very similar experience with this song. This was truly the first song I ever sang where I really felt the words and truly connected to what I was singing. I've never sung music the same since that performance. Truly a song worthy of praise.
I can’t relate more to this comment. The part where they sing “OH PLUNGE ME DEEP IN LOVE” as they crescendo at the climax of the song gives me the most insane nostalgic rush. I miss my choir so much.
My choir actually sang this song for large ensembles before it was released for purchase. Stroope had met with us in NYC fora choir event and we had told him we wanted to do this song and he gave us his composers copy to use as long as we bought it after it was released. That was also our directors last contest with us. So many happy and emotional memories. I so badly want to go back to those days.
I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I long to be Lost as a candle lit at noon, Lost as a snowflake in the sea. You love me, and I find you still A spirit beautiful and bright, Yet I am I, who long to be Lost as a light is lost in light. Oh plunge me deep in love-put out My senses, leave me deaf and blind, Swept by the tempest of your love, A taper in a rushing wind.

This is my favorite choral song in the whole entire world It is so so powerful and I adore every bit of it I have the most beautiful memories attached to this song, and it brings me to tears every time I hear it ♡
One of the most gorgeous renditions of this soul-stirring piece. I'll ever be grateful UoM, thank you so much for contributing such pure beauty into the world
We performed this song my freshman year in high school (which was only a few years ago) with our chamber choir and it has stuck with me since. It is still one of my favorite pieces I've ever done in any choir I've ever been and one of my favorite songs with lyrics written by poet Sara Teasdale. I still listen to it years later and it's as magical as the first time my choir teacher introduced it to us. It's every good part of any choir song combined into one.
I heard this song for the first time when I was at a choral adjudication in New York, and then later when we performed at Carnegie Hall. this song is absolutely gorgeous and it always makes me think of my crush because I was with him the whole time
I sing bass two in this song. From where I stand in comparison to the other sections, 2:05 to 2:17 sounds so epic! Stroope did such a great job with this song!
If I get into all-state this year (I did the past two years) I'll get to do it with Dr. Stroope, too!!! In Michigan. :D :D :D This has been my favorite honors choir song, too, ever since I did it two years ago in the state SATB!
We were learning this song at my high school for a trip to New York where we would sing with several other choirs, and then COVID happened and we didn’t get to, so we dropped the piece. I’m a little sad about that, I think it’s a beautiful piece
My High School's chamber choir is singing this piece. Although we need to work on our flatness (those with perfect pitch will understand), the song is absolutely amazing.
I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I long to be Lost as a candle lit at noon, Lost as a snowflake in the sea. My dad passed away in November, and I showed this song to him a few months before. He told me this is what he thinks heaven sounds like.
That almost made me cry. :(
wow.. beautiful
That is so beautiful🤍 I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom when I was 13 and I always see her when I listen to ‘Lanslide” by Fleetwood Mac
sorry for your loss.. :(

13 years ago I sang this beautiful piece with my high school choir and it still gives me chills to this day. Wonderful and unforgettable.

This is seriously the most heartbreakingly beautiful song I've ever heard in my life. I tear up everytime I listen to it.
i have the HONOR of performing this song on friday at an all-county festival. Amazing piece of music
This song breaks my heart
My parents divorced and I cry tears of sadness and even joy at how much this song hammers the reason home.
@@MattPalka I’m sorry to hear that bro 💔 if you ever want to talk let me know
Miss this song so much. My high school choir sang it at Carnegie Hall when I was in 9th grade as a soprano 1. Truly touching
Graduated high school 2 years ago and this was my favorite choral piece senior year. Pieces like this make me miss that choir so much.
Audrey Suski me too!!!
My choir director told me that this was one of her favorite choral arrangements, and I can see why 😍😍
I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.
You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Swept by the tempest of your love,

I will always be in love with this song ever since I sang it in high school 3 years ago. Timeless (:
This song could not be more beautiful, truly
im guessing this will be the last extremely beautiful piece i will sing in high school choir
Same. Senior year of A Capella choir and taking this to our state competition. This song is gonna be hard to pull off for us I think.

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.
You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be

Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.

the four people who didn't like this have no taste whatsoever in choral music. This is exquisite!
42 :/
I AGREE 10000000%
Worse, they are angry, bitter, perverse, and self-destructive.
I love this song, and this choir performed it so well. What a blessing
That is so beautiful! So pure and clear, and the dicinence within the chords just shimmer. just like english choirs!
A favourite choral piece for seven years running. I loved singing Stroope in high school.
this song really tugs on your heartstrings.
