Agreed - a lot of animals (esp those who've been abused) seem to have a fairly aggressive-sounding or noisy fear response, and many shelter volunteers don't seem to have the necessary training to recognise that it's just that, fear not actual aggression? Unfortunately where that lack of awareness collides with pre-existing breed prejudices (eg around bully breeds), dogs can get even further fast-tracked to the euthanasia list. Always really appreciate hearing of people who've managed to step in at that point and rescue a dog (or cat!) who would've otherwise not had a chance?

You don't have to worry about another woman. You've lost to a dog. But, the relationship your dog has with your husband is a joy to watch. You are really a special lady to find joy in this.
As someone who was a 4th wheel (our GSD preferred my husband and daughter to me) you will be surprised. He knew I was the one to go to for food, walks, and when he hurts himself or feels yucky. And he’d obey me like a moody teenager…”fine, whatever”… It was like that for four years. 2/13/17 until 9/13/21. When my mom died. He did not leave my side for the following 2 weeks. And since then…he comes to me for cuddles, gives me kisses, and even shares his squeaky with me. Occasionally. He’s funny about his squeaky. I was told by a couple trainers that a GSD needs to be needed, and considering we had a rottie who was a mamas boy and a pit/beagle who was queen bee…he knew I didn’t need him. Until I did. ☺️
Dogs are so intuitive, the will comfort you without question. When I was pregnant with my 1st born we were living with my parents waiting on a house to become ready to rent. My mom was an R.N. So that was convenient but I went into labor at midnight and I didn’t automatically realize it. It wasn’t until I had the 2 contraction about 30 min later that I realized it. My moms dog, a Yorkie named Cowboy, got in my bed and curled up to my belly and every time I’d have a contraction, he would just tremble, the contraction would stop and he would quit trembling. This went on until it was time to go the the hospital. Mom mom said he would not leave the door the whole time I was gone. She had to move his food and water to the door. When I came home with the baby, he would lay under his cradle, (yeah, it was that long ago). If he whimpered or cried, he was up wanting someone to come get the baby.
That's truly amazing. Dogs are far more intuitive than we can even imagine. They truly become extensions of ourselves. Bless these amazing and gorgeous for-legged creatures. We need them every bit as much as they need us. ❤
This dog as seen the ugly side of life, the dismay, the unfortunate and more importantly a love-less life. I can see it in his eyes.. By adopting him, you have given Rusty all of that and then some. Rusty is thankful that he is not alone anymore. All dogs deserve a home. Thank you for providing Rusty the hope he always wanted!

He is not small enough to be a lap dog, but he doesn't know that, he sees a lap and that's where he thinks he belongs. I am happy for all of you, in your friendship and love for each other. Think how replete and happy Rusty feels to be so loved and happy. You are all very lucky to have each other.
I think the whole "He doesn't know he's NOT a lap dog" thing MUST be a shelter dog thing. I have known two other dogs around 40+ pounds or so that have both been types to climb into a person's lap. I would say it's both a love thing as well as an insecure thing. "Love" to say they appreciated being chosen, and "insecure" as if not sure they are truly being folded into the fabric of the family they've become a part of. Both Ginger and Dimebag (named, obviously, for the guitarist of Pantera) were very sweet dogs and just wanted to be loved...like the dog in this video.
@@mathesonkamin6067 Oh trust me, I've known plenty of non-shelter dogs that thought they were lap dogs. Even those who were brought up from puppy. One of them was a great dane male weighing in at 80kg. What made it even worse, is that he knew he was heavy and he only did so with grown up men. Women and children were being left out of his lap dog silliness, he just wanted to be a puppy. Awesome dog to be around, even better dog for not being mine so I didn't have to suffer on a daily basis 🤣
What a heartwarming rescue story, Rusty is absolutely adorable and those eyes and that expressive look on his face .. So incredibly sweet, Rusty really knows how to communicate with humans 💞💞💞💞
FIrst off, my condolences on the loss of your GSD. I recently lost my male GSD and I know how much it hurts. That is wonderful you adopted Rusty, he is a beautiful boy! What a priceless look in the pup’s face when his owner says he is on diet, just adorable! Love Rusty’s big beautiful puppy dog eyes. Thank you for loving all your fur babies! 🐕♥️🐾
Great dog. Great parents. Great other pets. Great home. Rusty made out. Thank you for saving him. He (& you) brought a great, big smile to my face & made my day brighter.

Your big guy may be part Anatolian Shepherd. That would explain his size and protective, dominant behavior. Regardless, looks like Rusty is a great dog who is in a great home.
Yep. Was thinking the same thing. There’s a person in our neighborhood who has two Anatolian/German Shepherd mix dogs; one male one female. Huge dogs which I absolutely love and look very similar. They are very well socialized and friendly.
What BEAUTIFUL dog Rusty is! What loving folk to give him such a wonderful loving home. Thank the Lord there are folk around like you to show love to these lost souls. xxx
Parents, not owners. Let's change that. Maybe if people are aware that they're adopting a child, not buying a pet more animals will have permanent homes.
Yep! We rescued a big, intense, aloof yet sweet wolfhound mix. My wife had never had a dog before. I'm his roughhouse play and walk buddy, but Zeke is my wife's dog. Not fair, but nice to see.

It's the same way with my cat and my husband. Even though I'm the one who buys all her toys and towers, plays the most with her, and babies her more, she LOVES him, and tolerates me. Sigh.
She is simply kowtowing the one that she believes is the Alpha of the house. Cats are pack-minded animals and because of that, they try and keep the pack leader happy. My cats do the same thing with me, and it makes my girlfriend very sad. Oddly enough, if I show my girlfriend affection, my cats follow suit and climb all over her and try and groom her, which is always a good sign. This is how I try and keep the peace in my home. Either way, don't take it personally, it's just a cat being a cat.
What a great couple and beautiful dog. Here he was labeled as aggressive, doesn't get along with dogs and he lives with a dog AND a cat. This is exactly why those are the ones to adopt. I LOVE GeoBeats stories!

Lost my dog a few years back when I was away serving for the Army. To come home to an empty house was on of the hardest things ever. Still miss my girl so much. Felt like I lost a child.
Well, in all fairness, we're animals too... Mammals ;) I know what you mean though, other animals don't tend to judge, i haven't had that bond since 2010, when i lost my cat through 16 years, i feel like i don't wanna get my heart broken again, but, who knows, right? Bonded with a pack of wolves some years back, part of an experiment, that was some scary sh*t!!! :P Thinking about getting a German Shepard or a Husky, or both, just for the fun of it, so they can eat all the other little shits that are allowed in my building complex the past year or so :P
That’s true. My wife gives some attention w/petting and walks for my anxious dog and he’s come around to the point where he yearns for her. It’s cute. Makes him feel more grounded and secure. ❤️🐕
3:03 😍😍😍😍 heart melting dog, heart melting love, and such a wonderful woman. She is so sweet, and love how she tells it all and how she begs of him for some attention for her. Rusty she deserves it, she loves you so much too, I can tell! All 3 of you (and those other lil ones) are tremendously sweet. Great to watch. Thanks.
The whole household seems like a great place: 2 dogs and 2 cats being so friendly and well taken care of. Even if you have the money, just one pet is a huge responsibility.
Awww I had a GSD/collie cross named Rusty who looked JUST LIKE this one except with long hair! He also had trouble adjusting when he first came home from the shelter and then bonded strongly with just one person (me) and that helped him chill around other people. He passed at 12 a long time ago, but he was my dog all through my high school/college years and definitely a special boy.
Gaining a routine probably made Rusty feel secure; it gave him a purpose in life. Having given tasks and or goals you're regularly expected to perform/meet provides structure, prevents feelings of aimlessness & uselessness; pets are no different.
I feel sorry for big dogs. People automatically think they'll be to much work. I've found many dogs in the streets and helped rehome them. I took in a Mastiff that was abondon at a parking lot, and had many people ask about her but no one wanted a big dog. A year later, my mom fell in love with her and kept her. The Mastiff is so sweet that her name is now Maple.
Part of it is due to rental and strata laws so often not allowing medium - large dogs…discrimination. Instead any laws regarding dogs should be about behavior, not size or breed.
People don't know that big dogs are usually chill all day cause of their big size they are not as active as smaller dogs. The only downside i can see is the cost for the food.
Bless you for adopting Rusty. His exquisite expressive eyes & soft floppy ears... what a love! Slayde's sweet white face is SO precious, he's completely irresistible to me! And your gorgeous kitties complete your beautiful family of angels. You are ALL so profoundly blessed.💕🙏💕
Dog is not man's best friend. Dogs are the LOVE of our lives. And we of theirs. We need more laws to protect them as members of our family, a multi-species family.
Beautiful story! It’s wonderful that beautiful Rusty got two awesome people! If the world had more people with your ideals it would be a better place! God bless all of you!
Lol, an ex-girlfriend and I had a similar experience. She had found a stray pregnant cat and she brought her home with her. The cat was friendly so we kept her instead of taking her to the humane society. We named her Church because she looked like the cat on Pet Cemetery. Church very quickly became attached to me and followed me all over the house. If she didn't follow me then she would sit wherever I was sitting and wouldn't let anyone sit there. She had her babies and we found good homes for them with friends. Church was always with me and she absolutely loved to sit on my chest and groom my beard and stash while she purred and massaged me with her murder mittens. She liked other people but she loved me and made sure everyone knew that I belonged to her.
@@frolickinglions- my dad had semi adopted a big main coon when his people just left him at the apartments when they moved. He survived on his own for a while and was always an indoor /outdoor cat even after "adopted". He obviously had all his claws and occasionally he'd get a little rough when playing. I remember once he reached out and grabbed the sides of my face by my temples when he was on a cabinet and I was popping up in a peekaboo type game. I said, "Okay. Playtime is over," as I froze. I gently pried his claws out of the side of my face without cutting myself. Luckily he was generally fairly gentle and didn't pull away even though he had been hyped while playing. Murder mittens indeed. He was all black with white on his chest and paws which did make them look like mittens. I'm also reminded of that event when I watch "I am Puma" and their cougar reaches out to bat or grab at his "dad's" face with those huge paws.
It wasn't just how lovable this guy is and his story that melted my heart. My neighbor's dog was named also Rusty, and he was one of my best friends. God rest his soul. :')
This video has a bittersweet vibe to me. I love that Rusty found a loving family. It makes me sad too cause it's pretty much the same story for my little baby Viper who was a 4 month old doberman that I'd adopted. I've had him for two months, and it was the best two months of my life. I unfortunately lost him to Parvovirus last night. Excuse me while I bawl my eyes out in the corner here
@@sedohema A Horrible thing that makes dogs not want to eat. They get really really skinny and if they don't have a lot of fat reserves they sometimes die. I watched my bassett hound go from being an extremely overweight dog to a skin and bones dog and barely survived. Puppies are the ones that usually pass from it unfortunately.
Sorry to hear that. Dogs work their way into our hearts very quickly. I lost one of my Jacks last year due to old age. I still cry from time to time. But my other Jack always makes sure that I am loved.

Thank you for giving this lovely boy a chance. He just needed a home where he knows he is safe and loved to come out of his shell. My cat had social issues listed at the shelter. The family that had him kept him locked in a bathroom so he hadn't been properly socialized. Shortly after adopting him it was discovered he had urinary issues. Aside from an emergency vet visit he's been perfectly good since just eating special food. It took time for him to be trusting and to get more than a few pets without being overstimulated and freaking out. 4 years after adoption he turned into a complete lap cat. Every morning now I sit down and enjoy my coffee or tea with a cat sprawled across my lap purring like mad. I hate to think what could have happened to him if someone else had adopted him. He may have ended up back at the shelter over and over, or not have had his medical needs tended to properly.

@@Daniel-rd6st With dogs, it's all about HOW you do things. If you cater to them, you are not the Alpha. If you make them do what needs to be done, you are. For instance, when I wash the dog, I make a point to command her to put herself into the bathtub. She don't like that too much. But she does it begrudgingly. And it's cute as hell, lol. And she knows she's not the boss with me. It's one of those things that are easy for certain types of people, and hard to do for other types. ☺️
Amazing
Wow. Dogs are the best creatures on this earth.
That's beautiful!
That's truly amazing. Dogs are far more intuitive than we can even imagine. They truly become extensions of ourselves. Bless these amazing and gorgeous for-legged creatures. We need them every bit as much as they need us. ❤
Omg, the head tilts kill me!!! He's so cute and sweet. Glad you adopted him. What a nice family he has now.
Love a good head tilt lol
This dog as seen the ugly side of life, the dismay, the unfortunate and more importantly a love-less life. I can see it in his eyes.. By adopting him, you have given Rusty all of that and then some. Rusty is thankful that he is not alone anymore. All dogs deserve a home. Thank you for providing Rusty the hope he always wanted!
This was so well said. Agreed. God bless

Still waiting to get grandpa’s bicycle back.
I'm pretty sure that's any dog ever 😄
You've given me a Beautiful start to my day . The love in your home is evident. May blessings of those souls continue.
This story was soooo cute. What a great family!
Right!?? I want to see more 🥺
He is not small enough to be a lap dog, but he doesn't know that, he sees a lap and that's where he thinks he belongs.
Nothing is more beautiful than connection between good hearted human and animals. :) ❤❤❤
I really appreciate how she take Rusty’s affection for her husband in stride. He’s such a gorgeous boy

FIrst off, my condolences on the loss of your GSD. I recently lost my male GSD and I know how much it hurts. That is wonderful you adopted Rusty, he is a beautiful boy! He sure loves your husband, you may need to adopt another Rescue GSD so you get some cuddling too, lol. All the best to your family, thank you for adopting Rusty and giving him a Forever Home, you guys are awesome!
We lost our 13 year old German shepherd mix and it was just...such a hard loss but we always think shadow brought us harley our currant doggo
Wow brought tears to my eyes. It's like my son Kaine is saying to me he's ok. I lost my son to cancer at the age of 8. Friday October 23 2020 at 8:15 am. Seeing you guys had a German shepherd named Cane made me cry like a damn baby
Hugs for you. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
You are inspirational some of your son’s energy has come through and touched us.
I’m sorry for your loss

@@ponygirlusa 🙏🙏 Needed too see this thank you. Very Time I even type about Kaine a river of tears flows down. And I'm far from sensitive but damn it hurts.
I just love your guy's hearts. I teared up when you said that you knew you had to adopt the dog because you were concerned that no one else would adopt him. Can you imagine how much more beauty there would be in our world if more people had the same kind of attitude as you and your husband have?
What a priceless look in the pup’s face when his owner says he is on diet, just adorable! Love Rusty’s big beautiful puppy dog eyes.
Thank you for loving all your fur babies!
🐕♥️🐾
Great dog. Great parents. Great other pets. Great home. Rusty made out. Thank you for saving him. He (& you) brought a great, big smile to my face & made my day brighter.
Rusty has such soulful eyes & is so adorable. This couple is profoundly kind. You have all won the family lottery with your FUREVER BABIES!!!
Yes!
I am glad you adopted him .Rusty may not replace your other dog 🐕 but filled a void and you love him as himself. He looks like he belongs there and it does seem like he gets along with other dogs and cats. I am glad you saved his life also 💗👍💗.Thanks for sharing your story .I liked it .
Sadly our furever babies can’t last forever. We get so attached to them, and our hearts always wind up broken 😞 Sometimes we just never get over it & we are afraid to open our hearts again. I lost my fur baby almost 2 years ago & I know nothing will ever replace her in my heart. 😪❤️
@@sunnydaze2359 I'm so sorry. That happened to me with Max 20 years ago. I can feel the pain of losing Max still sharp, just typing this. But I know I did my two duties to him; gave him the very best life I could and the very best death. I went through terrible pain, but I managed things so that he never experienced any. It took a few years but I have loved other dogs since, because I reasoned that there were dogs who needed my love. So please ❤️❤️❤️ be brave and open up again. There will never be another like *her* no. But there's a dog out there who needs you.(Especially now that all those selfish 'not really dog people' have abandoned their pandemic rescues.)

Your big guy may be part Anatolian Shepherd. That would explain his size and protective, dominant behavior. Regardless, looks like Rusty is a great dog who is in a great home.
He looks like Scooby Doo so much!
Excellent observation 👍
Yep. Was thinking the same thing. There’s a person in our neighborhood who has two Anatolian/German Shepherd mix dogs; one male one female. Huge dogs which I absolutely love and look very similar. They are very well socialized and friendly.
I just looked up the Anatolian shepherd and I think that you are probably spot on. This dog looks like a mix between gsd and asd
Golden retriever and gsd i think
What BEAUTIFUL dog Rusty is! What loving folk to give him such a wonderful loving home. Thank the Lord there are folk around like you to show love to these lost souls. xxx
As owners of two German Shepherds, I feel your pain. They are definitely attached to my wife.
Hahahahahaha aww Mamma boy at least you know you're wife is loved and a fly can't land on their Mom 🙂
@@michelewalburn4376 - I'll meet you half way, as I'm still not comfortable with the whole pet parent thing. Our dogs aren't our kids, but more like our four legged partners, each with our own roles and jobs in the relationship.
@@michelewalburn4376 We have enjoyed the dog whisper Cesar Milan for many many years. There’s one consistency that we found and it’s this….you can’t think of a dog as a child…you have to think of a dog as part of your pack, because that’s how he/she will see you… as part of a pack
Lucky Rusty! You guys are fantastic parents! Hope he shows Mommy love soon.😅 so cute!
it will happen...he's just taking his time
I’m sure he loves her too. Sometimes dogs just have an absolute favorite person, but still love the rest of their pack also😊

She is glad she doesn´t have to clean after the dog, so she has more time for herself.
It's the same way with my cat and my husband. Even though I'm the one who buys all her toys and towers, plays the most with her, and babies her more, she LOVES him, and tolerates me. Sigh.
Do not beat up yourself, cats are just picky, it's nothing personal.
They brought a filthy, disease and bacteria ridden bag of CRAP into their home to live with them. A disgusting old habit that we should have KICKED sometime about 70,000 BC. dogs are Humankind's filthiest curse!!
Oh my God seeing him cuddle your husband like that is just the sweetest thing ever!
One of the most beautiful feelings in the world. The bond between human and animal. PURE!
Thinking about getting a German Shepard or a Husky, or both, just for the fun of it, so they can eat all the other little shits that are allowed in my building complex the past year or so :P
Give him regular massages. Trust me he’ll want to cuddle with you soon. Such an adorable big dorky face. Just love his eyes and the head tilt. 🐾😀💗
Thanks.
She has the most soothing voice! That big dog needs to cuddle her, but she more than knows Rusty loves her 100%
I agree! She needs to read stories or something.
Was thinking the same
The whole household seems like a great place: 2 dogs and 2 cats being so friendly and well taken care of.
Thank you for giving him a home. I can see how much he loves his home and his humans. God bless you for what you’ve done for him.
Wonderful!
Part of it is due to rental and strata laws so often not allowing medium - large dogs…discrimination. Instead any laws regarding dogs should be about behavior, not size or breed.
ur amazing
Rusty is so lucky to have found such loving humans. ❤
I'm not crying you're crying 🤧 I just love how he cuddles with daddy. The most precious thing in this world is the love from children and our animals
I've never heard of "murder mittens" before. 😂
Murder mittens, hilarious.
I had a cool cat as a teen, who loved on me but not like that. Glad you found her! Gotta keep that one.

Excuse me while I bawl my eyes out in the corner here
What's parvovirus?
@@sedohema A Horrible thing that makes dogs not want to eat. They get really really skinny and if they don't have a lot of fat reserves they sometimes die. I watched my bassett hound go from being an extremely overweight dog to a skin and bones dog and barely survived. Puppies are the ones that usually pass from it unfortunately.
That's terrible, I'm so sorry.😢
Sorry to hear that. Dogs work their way into our hearts very quickly.
